Poll results for the curious
by javabeans
Since a few of you were curious about poll results, here they are (the rest beyond the jump), arranged in descending order of votes cast.
I expected Coffee Prince to lead the pack, but I was still a bit surprised at the extent of its lead. Therefore I find it more interesting to see not only who won but how all the OTHER dramas fared in relation to one another.
No surprises here! But I’m glad to see that other couples held their own against Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye’s strong lead — Chae Rim and Lee Minki in Dal Ja’s Spring and Su Ae and Lee Jung Jin in Bottom of the 9th, for instance. The same trend held for favorite trendy dramas.
Putting Coffee Prince ASIDE, Dal Ja’s Spring was a solid contender for funniest drama, and Mixed-up Investigative Agency had a respectable showing. As for favorite Hallyu star heading for military service (from a prior post), Gong Yoo will be missed when he heads off on January 14. But Chun Jung Myung goes first, on January 2. Poor guy — he’s so underrated.
Even split for letdowns with Witch Amusement and Goong S almost level, and Hello Miss in third with a decent number of disappointed fans. You also thought I should watch Thank You (the episodes are accumulating in the Tivo, thanks to AZN, or is it IATV?), but I think I just might enjoy Devil more. And I really want to make time to see Conspiracy in the Court because I hear it’s great but nobody’s seen it!
Thrillers: TODAW with a clear lead, but closely followed by Devil. And I’m happy to see that both Flowers and Mixed-up, while underrepresented in the ratings, were recognized for their quality.
And finally, the lesser-watched categories were clear by the numbers — historicals, daily dramas, and soaps (click to enlarge).

I enjoyed reading on - DFanel's & Thunderbolt's year end reviews. Will you do the same for movies to watch in 2008? this is my first time to really be serious about watching hallyu dramas. I have only watched a few of those series included in the poll. And because of your reviews, 'am going to watch a few more. Can't wait what 2008 has in store. Happy New Year to you JB and to everyone else who's been ravin' or rantin' like me!

Are any of those daily dramas subbed? I am not surprised that Coffee Prince took such a huge lead over all the others, but its interesting to see how the rest of them faired too! :)

Hi JB!
I think Coffee Prince won because its popularity in Korea and other countries, for instance a lot of my friends and my 2 sisters watched it and became aware of Kdramas because I told them to watch Coffee Prince which was airing at the time, and some of my friends just know this drama and haven't expanded their horizons with other kdramas. I loved Coffee Prince by the way :) bt would not consider it the best drama of 2007....
Tx for the results!

Ahhh I agree Mixed up Investigative Agency went painfully underrated. It's such a perfectly executed storyline with such natural acting from all four leads! Gah.

I don't really if i should be happy about how Coffee Prince is leading so much or should I just feel sorry for the other dramas who were so far behind. hahaha :)

If anything, the results are skewed towards Coffee Prince because of all the hype around it. Glad the other dramas had some recognition too though. :)

Well, as evidence Coffee Prince got the most of the vote; dont ask anymore why and what makes it to the top. For those who have not seen it yet, simply watched it and you'll know.
'Till now, i still have this what you call, coffeeprince withdrawal? ( not sure if its written this way, i forgot the topography, hehehe, dont bother anymore to check it, i'm lazy). Its my frist time to leave a message here for it has been a long time already that i keep on visiting this website (thanks in a million Javabeans) but seeing the result, i cant help but express this message. Han Gyul and Eun Chan got into me, just like Sam Soona and Sam Shieka.
Javabeans, more power to you for the coming years. You're just GREAT!
Looking forward for more of the Kdramas!

Hi everybody!
I just want to thank you for spreading the drama world into the web.
I remember I found this site last summer, while looking for a song in "Coffee Prince" that was not included in the OST. Later I came back in this website many times, always for chance, but now, I must admit it, I definitely think yours is the most "uninformally informal" website about drama I know in the web.
Go on like that!
(Beautiful year-ending posts about 2007 dramas! Very interesting indeed the polls)
Thank you very much,
Jackie from Italy

the polls don't lie... even though contented with coffee leading the pack, i'm still a little puzzled by the fact that Dal Ja's didn't put up a real fight.... i always thought it was THE drama this year, until of course coffee overshadowed it ... oh well...

Did MIA fare badly in Korea?
Cos I'm watching it now, and I seriously adore the humor and quirkiness inside..
Lee Min Ki's such a doll...I love him. XD

I did my own review of the Kdrama that I have seen throughout 2007 (just for the fun of it) and that's not including those I have not finished watching like Insoon Is Pretty, Auction House, Lobbyist and New Heart. I have bought the dvd but never got the time to sit down and start watching it - White Tower, so I reserved my opinion of these dramas till I have fully viewed them.
I Love …
Let me start with the dramas that I fell in love with this 2007. I love dramas that leaves me warm and fuzzy after watching them. They may not have endings that I wanted them to have but they sure have given me some pretty good warmth and fuzzy feeling. So here's goes:
Coffee Prince (big time liking it, maybe its the coffee talking)
Dal Ja’s Spring (there's time for laughter, there's time for tears but there's always time for love)
Evasive Inquiry Agency (totally crack pot but love the essence of it)
9 End 2 Out (total satisfaction - good friend become lover and still be best of friends)
I Came In Search of Flower (twisted but funny - existance of irony)
Legend of Hyang Dan (just like the twist in the fairy tales, who knows it may happen)
Thank You (adore BOM to the last bit - she makes me cry a lot but also laugh a lot)
Time Between Dog and Wolf (Adrenalin pumping)
So – so …
These dramas where it started well but just fall flat at the end or vice versa ... so it takes great patience not to fast forward it and get to the end ... so here's goes:
Bad Couple (Great start but bad ending)
Get Karl Oh Soo Jung (Good Cinderella concept but delivery is weak)
Goong S (Great storyline but weak acting ... what a waste, it could have been great)
Snow In August (Tragedy happen but to fall in love with the man who kills your son, that can only happen in kdrama)
The Devil (Good attempt but still a lot of loose ends, some part the story doesn't gel together leaving pockets of obscurity)
The Legend (Love the special effect but too much of it just kills)
When Spring Comes (Slow in the beginnng but kind of end well)
I Hate … I hate drama that left me wondering at the end and makes me feel like I have wasted my 16 - 20 hours watching them not to mention my sleep.
Air City (No idea what's the point of telling the story when there's no ending)
Hello Miss (Light heartedly crazy)
Money’s Warfare (Violence begets violence but doesn't love covers all sins?)
Que Sera Sera (whatever ... so guy likes girl but has to go full circle to realise that)
Witch Amusement (Love Jae Hee but hate the girl, she can't act and the ending is just too disapponting)

is there something wrong with your poll? because the numbers don't add up to 100%... and you give me the impression that you're biased towards and against some dramas just because of what other people say. oh well, what a way to go... -.-'''

I would like to thank you Javabeans for your insights and sharing on some of the drama eg: I Came In Search of Flower, Time Between Dog and Wolf, Evasive Inquiry Agency, Legend, Hyang Dan, Taerung National Village. I started watching them because of what Javabeans had shared in this blog. I would not have pick these titles up myself but after reading your review, I decided to give it a try and THANK YOU I am entertained.
I hope you will give your great review in 2008 and may your BLOG be growing from strength to strength and who know, you will write a book one day yourself :D
HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR my friend. You have been a blessing.

lala baba, the numbers don't add up for the first poll because that one allowed you to vote for more than one selection. You can see in the first line that it says "Pick your top 2."
and of course i'm biased toward or against some of the dramas, but certainly not because of what others say. i draw my conclusions myself based on what i've seen and liked (or disliked). obviously i'm going to like a drama that i watched and enjoyed more than an aggravating one that i thought sucked.
ripgal, MIA had poor ratings in Korea (in the 3%-5% range), but it's received positive praise for its clever writing.

Thanks for letting us know the poll results. Personally, i think DJS fared pretty good considering that it was aired really early this year. I didn't expect for it to retain the same popularity and viewers' loyalty all this time (considering that 2007 was a year with many good dramas).

Coffee Prince is definitely the best kdrama I've ever watch overall! I don't think anything can beat it! It's just one of those drama that you can watch over and over again and not get annoyed. I'm glad Dal Ja's spring was up there. It was totally cute and I love the character, especially Chae rim!
