Shameless Prince eye candy

…because really, if you’re going for eye candy, isn’t shameless the best approach?

(Random) SONG OF THE DAY

Instant Romantic Floor – “Instant Cafe” [ zShare download ]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The first pic of “Dumb Hwang,” aka Min Yub, is of actor Lee Eon (first name pronounced “un”), whose all-nude picture was taken last year, but which has just now surfaced on these here interwebs, circulating quickly to (naturally) lots of response. The original article (posted at Today Korea) explains that Lee Eon, who started out as a model, took the photo in conjunction with cable channel M.Net’s season 2 of “I Am a Model” last August.

Ha Rim, or rather actor Kim Dong Wook, is featured in this interview at The Hankyoreh News. It’s a pretty lengthy interview, but let’s see if we can get some of the more interesting parts:

Due to the popularity of the drama, everyone in the cast, from the principals like Gong Yoo down to the supporting cast such as Han Ye In, who plays Eun Sae, has been garnering attention. Of them, Kim Dong Wook, playing Ha Rim, has been enjoying nearly as much attention as the leads. “In truth, Kim Dong Wook’s popularity came as a surprise. Of the three Princes, he’s the shortest, and he has a baby face. The mysterious Sun Ki (actor Kim Jae Wook) or the Prince with the masculine exterior, Min Yub (Lee Eon) would have, until recently, been closer to fitting women’s conditions for the perfect man.” But for some reason, Ha Rim — talkative, cute — is changing people’s minds.

“Yesterday (the 18th), I received the last script, and my heart just felt stopped up. Seeing the script with ‘Last Cup’ written on it, I felt sentimental, wondering how all this time has passed. I first met Ha Rim through the audition script pages. It was a character that I felt a strong desire to tackle. I don’t know if I was able to do a good job, but I won’t be able to forget him for a long time.”

[Interviewer] You hit a home run with your first drama series.

“I couldn’t even guess that I’d gain so much popularity like this. Actually, at first I was a little worried. Jae Wook, playing Sun Ki, and Lee Eon hyung, playing Min Yub, were so good-looking, I worried that the ‘prince’ ensemble would be messed up because of me. … [Laughs] Ha Rim just wanders from one person to another, chattering on [laughs], and I think he survived because of how the character became connected to the others — Eun Chan, Han Gyul, Sun Ki, Min Yub and the rest.”

He explains that the director told him that because Ha Rim is a player with women, he’d have to be a cute character. At first, he wasn’t sure how to even come across as cute — and he thought that people who purposely try to act cute are a pain. So he tried to act without being burdensome or feeling forced.

The “My Chan” nickname was written into the script, but PD Lee Yoon Jung encouraged the actors to play around with the words and delivery in rehearsals, and he enjoyed that aspect of working with the other actors.

“The endings of the scenes where Eon hyung carries me horizontally, and where sweet and sour pork is spit out because it’s too hot to eat, are mostly ad-libs.”

Actor Kim Dong Wook is a bit familiar with the situation of Ha Rim, whose parents want his character to be a doctor and fiercely oppose his path — because his own family was strongly opposed to his choice to become an actor. It wasn’t because they had no faith in his ability, but that their expectations were so high. He’d tried all sorts of things to persuade them, even running away once: “One day, my father came to take me home when I’d been drinking, and told him drunkenly how badly I wanted to act, and it seemed his feelings were moved.” Now, they’re very happy.

You’ve received attention five years after your debut. Were there times you wanted to give up?

“Yes, lots. The hardest time for me was the opportunity to audition for the movie The King and the Clown. While preparing for a musical for about three weeks, I’d made it all the way to the final auditions for King and the Clown and another movie. I thought it was my chance. But because I wasn’t prepared enough, I lost out on the King and the Clown, and I lost the other movie too. Then I hurt my knee, and couldn’t even do the musical. In one morning, everything had flown away. To do the musical, I’d even taken a leave from school. [Laughs] I drank every day, stayed home all the time, and didn’t go out to meet anyone.”

And finally:

A farewell message to the other Princes?

“Eon hyung, you’re someone who’s courteous, polite, and has a lot of affection. Because of you, filming was a lot of fun, and I enjoyed going over ideas with you. Jae Wook, always hiding your face, is similar to me, so we became even friendlier. Like me, when you have spare time, your hobby is going to the baseball field. When the drama finishes, we’ll have to get a job there. [Laughs] Meeting good people while filming is the biggest reward of working on Coffee Prince Store #1.

And there’s no current news on Sun Ki, aka actor Kim Jae Wook, but I didn’t feel right leaving him out. Enjoy.

Thanks for the news! Sad as it is...My heart leaps every time I see a new CP-related blog post. I am so NOT ready for the CP experience to be over. It's unfortunate that I found your website so late in the game...

I always really liked Ha Rim...partly because he seems as sexually ambiguous (in actions) as EC (in look and actions), HK (in actions), and SK (in look)...partly because he is always a spur to displaying honest feelings (I know this is worded awkwardly...I mean he always seemed to give EC and HK new perspective on their behavior/feelings...his comments when EC blows in HK's face, his appraisal of EC when they meet, his possessive use of "My Chan"--which elicit HK's "yours? he's mine" and EC's disdain [which pleases HK so much when they go to breakfast after the face-blowing incident]...etc.)

Thanks for including KJW; always a pleasure to look at :)

That pic of Lee Eon is.......Yowza! I am not sure I will ever see Min Yub the same again. Sun Ki caught my eye from Dal Ja's Spring - he's just too pretty for words. So I always ogle him while watching CP. But Min Yub was always kinda like Ashon Kutcher from That 70s show - good looking, but dumb....until now, of course.

Thank you so much, Javabeans, for posting this article on Kim Dong Wook (Ha Rim). I have to admit, even though I love all the princes in the drama, I loved Ha Rim's character because he was just so entertaining and of course, "cute" haha. I especially loved the scene when Lee Eon (Min Yup) carried him horizontally into the house - that was hilarious, and whenever Ha Rim addresses Eun Chan as "My Chan" haha! I'm going to miss the drama...one more episode, and a special...and wow. What an amazing drama

Lee Eon was PERFECT for the role of Min Yub. Seriously, all the characters were brought to life by this outstanding cast. I'm pretty sure if I see any of them in future dramas I will always think back to their characters from CP! ^^

I'll probably have a hard time saying goodbye to Coffee Prince, that I'll keep watching it over and over again. Right now, I just finished the 13th episode with the English subs; at the same time imagining the summaries you've written. I kept thinking, "I have to go back and read it all over again to correlate it what episode I have watched."
Thanks sooo much, Dear Sarah/Javabeans!
All the actors in this series, deserve the adulation they are getting now.
In anticipation of the last episode.....let me read from the very beginning! Thanks again!

Glad to see I'm not the only one in awe of Lee Eon's sculpted physique. The admiration goes beyond sheer girly drooling -- I'm impressed with whatever work it takes to achieve that level of physical discipline. Eesh. Says she as she indulges in unhealthy food and drink late at night.

Crazme, periodically I'll look at Korean news and search engines for the latest stuff. It's the equivalent of Yahoo or Google news, where you can just enter in a search phrase (like "Coffee Prince") and look through the results, starting from the latest entries. I just skim through the headlines and post the ones I find most interesting. (Many are dumb, or irrelevant; I've voiced my complaints with Korean entertainment media, and one aspect is that in the absence of true news, they resort to "reporting" really asinine or silly things that are barely worth the space they take to write.)

Marie, I found the Ha Rim/KDW interview particularly interesting too, especially since I really like behind-the-scenes insights. I'm glad you find them enjoyable to read; that's why I translate, since that kind of stuff is harder to find in English. :D

carviangli, thanks for asking! sure, you can take whatever you like and repost it elsewhere if you upload it to some other service (like photobucket). The only thing I don't want is for people to post my direct links and hotlink to my files on other sites, just because that strains my server here. But you can download whatever and upload it elsewhere and we're all hunky-dory.

Now it's really for real --- "The Last Cup" -- like I'm about to die...
From the Lead to the supporting Casts -- they all did superbly well -- no doubt that coffee prince is truly hitting the chart... Lee Eon is totally hot with that shot and so as Kim Dong Wook and Kim Jae Wook. I will definitely miss coffee prince and the coffee prince fever here at dramabeans!

My favorite character in coffee prince has always been Ha Rim (Kim Dong Wook). I just had this feeling of excitement whenever he's about to deliver his lines because I just know that I will laugh really hard and will once again hear the line "my chan"(so cute!) and happiness when I watch him act because he is just so so cute and so so hot! And his smile...oh god! I just melt everytime. XD The way he communicates with the other characters is done so naturally that I always think that I was there and them in front of me. It's like being out with your friends and your just listening to their conversation and not speaking, just expressing reactions. Well actually, everyone's like that in Coffee Prince, not just Kim Dong Wook. It's just that he's the one I notice more that the others. hehe :>

I can't remember which blog post it was in response to or who it was that made the comment, but someone said that CP raised the bar for kdramas. I inadvertently discovered just how true that statement is yesterday. I was starting to watch Attic Cat (I have been wanting to see it for a while because I like both the leads), and I was kind of getting into it, but then, I switched to CP for an episode or two, and I had absolutely no urge whatsoever to watch more Attic Cat. Today it's the same.

thanks for posting this one...
As for the Princes of COFFEE PRINCE, I've like them all but in different aspects.
Ha Rim - he is the type of guy that mostly will really get irritated at first 'coz he is so talkative and quite tactless. but his honesty and being a sweet guy would change my mind on him. He is playful and cool but love to see it when he found his match.. hehe
Min Yeop - he is definitely the guy that i would be scared of (based on first impressions only). But knowing his attitude and character, his physique is in contrast with his true character. you might think at first that since he is big and tall, that he's got a rough attitude, but this series made me think differently of such kind of guys (big looking guys) since i mostly get scared at them. He showed what being a faithful and true he is in his heart. --> regarding his photo here: I didn't even imagine seeing him like that. I men, he looked more like a comedian actor than a model. but since there's a proof, well, i see him differently now. Korean actors sure know how to be sexy...
Sun Ki - I kinda relate myself to him though.. waiting/caring for someone that can't really be yours. I feel for him and at the same time, it's like I want to poke his head and tell him "Man, get real, she doesn't like to have you in her life at all. whether it's because she doesn't like you at all, or that she just doesn't want anyone to be involved in her life (yet). --> as for this actor, I haven't seen him act in any other drama yet. this is my first time seeing him here in coffee prince. he looked so mysterious at first since he doesn't talk too much (not like Ha Rim). His face sometimes could make me mistaken him for a girl (if not only because of the nice edges of his face) thanks to his hair, eyes, and lips.
************
I Know This is Not the Right place to post this -- but i've been really thinking (even if i wanted to stop- but it doesn't - my head is really is too stubborn!) -- that HOW WILL THEY END THIS DRAMA - THINKING OF THE NOVEL - WILL THEY MAKE THE SAME AND ADD AN ACCIDENT CHORVA HERE. in the novel, Sunki caused Eun Chan's "hospitalization" will it be the same here in the Drama? i've just thought:
--> SINCE SUN KI'S GIRL HAD A HUSBAND THAT HAD BEATEN HER AND SUN KI BEFORE, IT'S JUST PROBABLE THAT THE HUSBAND (OF THE GIRL THAT SUNKI LIKED/CARED) WILL COME TO KOREA AND EVENTUALLY FIND SUN KI INSTEAD OF HIS WIFE AND WILL CAUSE CHAOS IN THE SHOP -- WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO EUN CHAN'S ACCIDENT -- i've just been thinking here guys. please don't scold me -- since i'm as anxious as all of you do too.

It seems that we can no longer avoid the last cup of Coffee Prince, it is really coming next week. I'm just wondering what drama would take the same popularity and attention as that of the Coffee Prince. One thing is definite, we will surely miss COFFEE PRINCE. Thanks JavaBeans, your blog is most helpful...this is one thing too, that we enjoyed this drama a lot. Keep going please...we are always here. Bless you.

I agree with you . I hope there will be 2# Coffee Prince shop, but I think if Coffee Prince team (PD, writers, ...) have any plan to do this, we should stay and wait for 2 years until
Gong Yoo come back to movie and drama world. But this a very good idea :) .
What do you think?

HI Javabeans, first i wanted to thank you for the CD you sent to me. Love the selections. If i continue supporting you, will i get one again? (^-^).
Love this sexiness and eye candies that you posted. Actually, it was in episode 16th that i started to check myself why i love CP so much. Then i realize it was more becasue of Gong Yoo's character. Being a typical woman, i like seeing the sensitive sides of a guy. He's so cute and playful. Also, when he started to accept is feminine side, it was so sad but endearing. I know that sometimes women prefers gay men because of their being sweet and sensitive. In the Philippines, there are lot's of women who marries gay men (^-^). I also love the independence of Eun Chan, which seems to be the typical women nowadays, specially in Asia. We want to be more responsible for ourselves and our happines. But of course we still want to have guys like Han Gyul, who will always stay besides us and be happy together =).
As for the other eye candies, Jae wook first caught my eye in Dalja's Spring. He's such a good looking guy and quite deep. I hope he get more bigger roles in the future. Lee Eon's bod is a work of art. I saw an MTV where he starred in. He's quite sexy. Want to see him in an action film or Kdrama and an intelligent one. Hope he won't be typecast. Did he do other kdrama? was he the one in when spring comes? can't remember coz i only watch a few episodes. Ha rim is cute too, he talks to fast. But i think the reason he stand out is that he so in character of his role. I think he's a good actor. Unfortunately, Kdrama's seldom support short guys. I think the only successful short guys Ko Su (did i get his name right?), the guy in Green Rose and How to Marry a Millionaire, i think he's serving in the army now. Miss him already. THe other is Park Shin Yang (MOney's Warfare). It's a good thing that Dong Wook is a good actor. He'll stand out in any roles given to him. Hope there will be Coffee Prince 2 (^-^). WHy not reverse the table, there are lot's of KOrean actors who look like a girl, Hee Chul is one, another is Hero =). hahahahahah.

Just like #21 Cartman, I enjoyed Ha rim so much! His "My Chan" chant always echoes in my head. I even started calling my officemates "my chan/ my chan-nah" as a term of endearment. haha! I love how each of the Princes didn't outshine one another and their odd qualities simply meshed well with the two main characters. Such an excellent casting choice!

yes, ha rim was a real hook to CP as well i have to say. he appealed to me more than the other two i must say. he pulled of his cute well, it was charming it was himself without going overboard. i must say they did well in casting this drama, becuase each of them brought something to the story and made it brighter. i look forward to more roles from kim dong wook!! :D the crew and directors of this drama are really good!

Some day, a long time from now
These rays of light
Remember the trip
I took to be next to you

At a seashore far away
At the end of the sky somewhere
Keep the precious memories
Of you and me

A blinding vision of azure
You’re my sea
When I gave you my hand
Your dreams broke into white pieces

I’m planning on taking a long trip
A voyage deep into the sea
The smooth, silvery ripples
Take my body to you

A blinding vision of azure
You’re my sea
When I gave you my hand a white
Burst of your smile

You know, too, that I
Love you very much
Wrap me in your softness
