Coffee Prince Lyrics: “White Love Story”
by javabeans
Lordy! Judging from yesterday’s traffic boost (14,000 hits. Fourteen thousand), I’m guessing people really, really like Coffee Prince. And why wouldn’t you? Yesterday’s episode was great.
Here’s a lyrics post for the song used in the last scene of the episode (#6).

“WHITE LOVE STORY” by As One
I didn’t know at first why your gaze, looking at me made me feel so flustered I always wanted to ask if you understood just a little of my feelings although I never told you Now I know, how you were as lost Things stood still Now I know, how you were as lost I won’t cry |

Thanks for this! I really liked the last scene (mostly through your summaries)
I love the way this song seems to apply to both. I wish we could see more clearly Eun Chan's reaction to the hug, though I guess we know her thoughts from the subtitles. But Han Gyul's expression in this scene was just so.. eloquent. And this from screencaps. I can only imagine what it must be like on video.

I think most of the reason Coffee Prince is so popular right now is because of the main actor and actress, haha. It's a bonus that it's turning out to be pretty good so far. Hopefully it'll keep going good, and then the reason people like it will be because it's good, and not because of who's acting in it. :D
And is it just me, or did your website go down right when I was going to post this comment? LOL Guess your server got overloaded.

Kim, I think initially that was the reason why people started watching the series but after some episodes being aired, I think that it's also because almost all the characters in the drama are likeable and each has their different personalities which made it even more fun and exciting to watch and not to mention that the plot's really getting better and interesting and people are anticipating how the story unfolds and how the characters will try to deal with the situations in each episode :)

shenny, crazy isn't it? it must explain the constant server errors. -_- sorry everyone! i'm trying to figure it out with my host.
si, it's on the Coffee Prince OST.
I agree with Jet. The leads (particularly YEH) drew notice at the start, but CP's increasing ratings are due to its story much more than it is the popularity of the actors. There are shows that get lots of buzz, and premiere with decent numbers (a first episode premiering with 15% or more ratings is pretty good for a first ep) -- but they nosedive soon thereafter if the story is unable to stay up to par. (For instance, Goong S started with a robust 15% viewership rating and a super-star lead in Seven, then crashed and burned with a dismal under-5% rating due to its general plot wishy-washiness. People weren't going to watch a hot young actor -- no matter how popular -- if the quality of the drama doesn't measure up.)

the song is just perfect for the hugging scene.. i think this is the turning point whre HK and EC's feelings becomes evident for each other.. now EC also feels the same shivers HK feels when he is near her.. and that EC is enjoying every situation where she's brought close to HK. now she somehow understands why HK is giving her the looks but the confession I think will take longer bcoz of the gender issue.. its like the song was made for them, and that it is made for that particular situation. much love javabeans for sharing the lyrics!

thanks javabeans!!! The song is so apt for the scene now that I can understand the lyrics. I cannot get over this episode. I re-watched thrice already!!! Han Gyu's reactions seemed so genuine when he made fun of Eun Chan. I really hope this drama will keep getting better and better. Kdramas plot seemed to start going predictable and repetitive after epi 10.

this song is perfect... not just background music but helps to enhance the ambience, acting, and storyline. it's exactly what music is supposed to do
in a movie/show.
14k hits...i bet it's wayyyy higher now, javabeans. give yourself some credits, i think it's partially due to the quality writing of this blog too! the TV ratings are also incredible, i heard.

Thank you for the post!
I think ratings are doing well because of the casts, the nature of the drama (happy mood and bright atmosphere) and sorta weak competitors on other channels. KBS's drama is an 8 episode series set in the ancient times with no known cast but beautiful sceneries. SBS's comedy is getting some good reviews but it is offending some Koreans due to its controversial stereotypes of people in Gangnam area. I see people being offended and thus switching channels especially in Seoul. (If I was to guess, CP's Seoul ratings should be substantially higher...) So I think CP is very lucky to be in this time slot versus its original Saturday Sunday time slot. If it was in that time slot going against Bad Couple or Go Karl and Dae Jo Yong, I wonder if its fate will be the same. After all, Sat/Sun timeslots are harder to gain ratings when you are competing with people's weekend plans as well.
I think SBS and KBS also initially thought they were going to compete against Bae Yong Joon's drama "Taewangsaeshingki" (spelt something like that LOL) and it was supposed to be a huge drama like Jumong hence the programming was aimed to tackle that group of viewers perhaps. But when TWSSG's schedule went haywire (Was supposed to be Mon/Tues), they had to postpone it to air later this year or maybe next year. Hence, CP was re-scheduled to move forward and change time slots. Good for CP but bad news for TWSSG.
Frankly, I am still not completely blown away by Coffee Prince's plot and how things are set up. Episode 6 was the best episode thus far (actually tempted me to watch only that episode LOL) but I didn't really like episodes 1-5. The show overall right now is fun but really..is it that great?!?! Oh well...just something I feel about the show which does not jive with many people. Just like Bad Couple...I find the series I am watching now are so-so...not a disapointment to watch but definitely nothing that leaves me in awe.

ginnie, it must really be a matter of taste, because to answer your question ("is it that great?!?!"), I have to say, for me it really is. I'm thoroughly enjoying Coffee Prince, more than I expected (as you described, I was expecting it to be decent and watchable, but it's been a lot more fun than that). I know it's not necessarily high art but I find myself disappointed when each episode ends. I like the setup they've got going, and the fact that there's entertainment without huge drama. (Yet.) To be sure, it doesn't have stiff competition but I don't think that's the main reason for the high ratings. High ratings can suggest a few things (lack of competition, popular cast, etc), but consistently climbing ratings is suggestive of more -- that there's genuine interest in the story and development that's engaging viewers.
This may all change, because I've found it's not unusual for the first two or three weeks to be stronger than the rest of the series. But I totally agree with your assessment of Bad Couple -- for me it was really fun and fresh for the first six weeks, and then it hit a plateau (or maybe more like a gentle peak). It's still interesting, but it's been down-graded from "gotta see" to "a pretty fun watch."

That's true Javabeans. It must be a matter of taste. Wish I could also be as excited for a drama these days. I really want to feel high on a drama again! It is exciting to be part of an online watching experience for 2-3 months. We'll go through the ups and downs together and mock/praise the dramas together. I think watching "almost" live with so many people in cyberworld is something I really enjoy especially when there are lots of interesting discussions going on.
Bad Couple let me down somewhat. Like you said, it's interesting still because I want to know what happens in the end and curious to know what the writer is thinking when she started this story. Has it lost its way? I somewhat think it has lost some focus.

With Han Gyul’s expression in this final scene -- my guess of what's going on through his mind --- " OH MY GOD I'M GAY!" LOL HA HA HA... but really they're such a cute couple -- of course I still like Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon and besides he's different from Gong Yoo -- Ji Hoon is the serious type of guy whose trying to be funny while Gong Yoo is the guy next door who's already funny looking and totally HOT but.... GAY - HA HA HA HA --- I love this Drama!

javabeans BRAVO i couldn't agree with you more. Espescially about the ratings comment.
The casts are doing a great job in portraying their role and this is clearly a great series which is why the ratings are high...not due to lack of competition, I dont know but some people may be blind, if they think that, because if they go to forums and blogs, Coffee Prince is almost everyones topic these days. Just look at the Coffee Prince page in soompi compared to any other drama threads, and also the hits that Coffee Prince related sites are getting...those are enough proof that this series deserves the high rating *rollseyes*

i saw episodes 5 and 6 without subs! ^_^ naturally, i just guessed, judging by how their expressions change and which setting they were in. very tiring, but nonetheless enjoyable. i believe that love and comedy are the world's languages. you don't necessarily have to understand what's touching and what's funny. you just know them. i can't speak nor understand korean language (except for some very few words like wang ja and ssagaji...hehe). same goes with korean songs. i don't understand a word, but to hell with understanding! i feel nice every time i'd hear a melodramatic korean song. mood setters! ^_^ and like you, i also feel upset every time an episode would end. it's like "i want more!".
funny thing is when han kyul hugged eun chan in episode 6, i can't help but feel "gay"-ish. haha! i really got the whole "eun chan oppa" going on inside my head, and having her boss do something like that was like...O_O, then i'd remember eun chan is a girl, so it's okay. ^_^ best episode.
haven't heard of gong yoo until this series, and so far, i'm liking/loving him. eun hye's a natural! she looks great even with the boyish look (ooops...am i going lesbo? hehe).
thanks for the lyrics, javabeans. i'd never look at coffee the same way. ^_^

I agree with Jet and Javabeans, the show's two leads made the show more noticed, but the great plot and interesting characters made this shows even more successful. Afterall, I've seen many shows with very popular casts, but with very disappointing plots and boring characters which made the ratings significantly low than expected.

Hello javabeans. I'm still struggling with CP like you. I'm just wondering where you from? Are you a native korean speaker? cuz I found one confusing translation in the lyric. Apologize my bad English. I've lived Korea since i was born so i'm not good at English. Anyways, what i was going to tell you was about this line "나를 보는 그대의 그눈빛이 왜 그렇게 안타까웠는지". It was translated to "why your gaze, looking at me made me feel so flustered". I can't really tell who the subject is. At first I thougth "HE" looking at me with flustered look on his face. and the next second I thought maybe "I" am the one who flustered. However I bet "He" is the one who flustered in the lyric in korean. Oh~ and I personally love "Go Go Chan" too. Dont' you like it javabeans?
