Music Rec: HOUSE RULEZ
by javabeans
You guys are just too awesome. I created this blog some months ago, but I started posting in earnest with my Dal Ja’s Spring recaps — Episode 1 was posted on February 25. Just two months (and many, too many) posts later, I’m clocking 157,000+ blog hits, and perhaps even more impressive, a whopping 967 968 comments! You guys rock.
Even though I don’t really think numbers mean much, I thought 100,000th was a nice milestone to commemorate and was thinking of putting up a big music post… but I got a little sidetracked last week and now I’m up to 157,827. So this’ll have to do… Happy Friday! Fridays always seem like a particularly nice day to listen to some new, groovy music.
Taking a departure from drama-land for a while, please indulge me because I just stumbled across a new group and I’ve fallen in love. If you’ve got similar music taste as me, you’ve gotta check out this new group called HOUSE RULEZ. They’re classified as electronica, but they’re really all over the place musically, adding a fusion of techno, R&B, soul, jazz, pop, and feel-good funk to sound like an eclectic step-sibling of Epik High, Clazziquai, Pizzicato Five, Jamiroquai. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, they’re just that good.
House Rulez :: 하우스 룰즈
Members :: Seo Ro 서로 (sax), Paco 파코, Young Hyo 영효
The Fun Company :: 더펀컴퍼니
1st Album, April 2007 :: “MOJITO”
.
I don’t like to throw around praise lightly saying everyone’s awesome, because that does little to differentiate the guilty-pleasure pop fillers from the truly creatively innovative and fresh. Can you guess which I think this group is?
In fact, I like them so much I decided not to post up all of their mp3s for download. I know, aren’t I a bitch? Despite freely posting songs here (I try to limit them to one or two per album, just to give you a taste — I firmly believe people are more willing to buy when you make their browsing experience hassle-free), I am a total advocate of supporting artists you like, especially when they’re new and lesser-known like House Rulez. If you like what you hear, you can buy the album from Yesasia. Or maybe there are other places out there to download from, but I won’t point the way. (And please don’t post ’em here, if you do know.) You understand, don’t you?

Thanks for the music recommendation! I like House Rulez... makes me want to go driving with my hair in the wind. But more than anything I like the humorous, funky tone of the band.

Awesome! I really like their play on beats and use of different jazzy sounds (especially Ku-chu-ta-chi...ku-chi...ta..chi....ku..chi...ta..chi.. sorry about that, got a little too into it). Anyways, thanks again for the samples, wanna go buy the record now.

Thanks for your recommendation. I am afraid that I have to use the word awesome on them. Their brand of music lifts up your spirits, and makes you want to dance to it too. In fact, I like the songs so much that I have ordered purchased it immediately at Yesasia! There is not one song I did not like.
I did not realised that you only set up this blog recently. Keep up the good work! I have been checking your blog daily. It is great that you are not just confining it to korean dramas only.

Haha, at first I wasn't very impressed with them... but then, yesterday, I heard Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" for the very first time in my life, and I just HAD to find more music like it. Then, oddly enough, I immediately remembered House Rulez, and I've been enjoying them to death ever since, lol.

Hello, have been reading your site for a couple of months now. Love all the kdrama recaps and your music picks! Just wanted to say thanks for the awesome music! House Rulez sounds really cool; they do sound a little like Clazziquai, but actually they remind me more of a Jap group called m-flo. In fact, their song On My Way really sounds like one of the m-flo songs!

Like it very much... I'm just wondering, I live in Europe so I wouldnt know, but is electronica/acid jazz music like this really popular in S-Korea and japan? Anywz, it just sooooo much better than all the RnB and Kpop/Jpop!!

Eve, if you have a wordpress.com blog, you can use a third-party (free) hosting site to upload the mp3 file to, then link using the wordpress audio player code (make sure you use a third-party site that allows hotlinking though, otherwise it won't work). Another option is to buy the wordpress.com space upgrade which allows you to upload it directly to your blog, which is nice if that works for you because there's no bandwidth limit.

Nice job on the music taste! :) I was looking for house rulez bc my lastest obsession is Clazziquai and all that sounds similar or just fun sounding, thus i stumbled upon your blog. I'm not really sure how to download off of this site, but i just wanted to comment and say nice choice of music.

These songs are amazing! I love the mix of electronica and blues that they incorporate in their songs. Each song is not at all similar to each other and it's very nice to listen to an album that's not solely based on one set genre.
Thanks for the share of mp3s java!

i actually heard of this music group because they will be featured in the latest version of the korean dance game (their song Do It, specifically). but personally, i don't think i can classify their music as mere electronica or even house anymore. they've got style and they really know how to play it and dish it out in technicolor spades.
the song Do It was actually enough for me. it's upbeat. it's funky. it's inviting practically anyone to party and dance the house or vogue.
