When lots of people here had been complaining of drama slumps, I happily said \”thankfully not me!\” HA! I spoke too soon. I am no longer watching any simulcast show 😟Nothing is keeping my attention. Plus, the whole US licensing debacle is making it difficult to easily access shows. Sigh… I just want to be entertained!!

    The licensing debacle is a real problem. It’s so disappointing that no one is picking up some of these shows – Kocowa may be a pain, but at least they have the big three. I can’t find some of the cable dramas anywhere.

      It’s very problematic. I really want to watch Age of Youth 2, but no one seems to have it. I am wondering if DF is having contract issues with TVN because DF also lost the rights at the last minute to Live Up to Your Name. And now there is no AY2.

    Hah! Same! I was also like: Slump WTH?! I was live-watching 8 dramas couple of months ago, even watched the disappointment that was BOF, then dwindled to one drama.. And now none. I just couldn’t be bothered with the new shows.
    I’m starting a C-drama and T-drama though.

          Yes!! At least I think so. I am just sad and mad that the season ends tomorrow. Shortest season ever. I have to laugh though at how everyone is treating the finale length like it’s some big deal – “it’s almost feature length! It’s so long! 80min!” Clearly none of these people watched Reply 1988 or even Goblin. Hahahaha.

          I second that Game of Thrones recommendation. Solid show. Have I cried? Many times. Am I sometimes distracted by amazing costumes? Often. Am I rooting for multiple characters to either be saved or destroyed? All the time.

      I’d been seeing lots of slumps mentioned too and then bam I was in the middle of a slump. I was neglecting to keep up a variety of Korean/US/world shows and movies going. It helps me to change the brain space with the different artistic expressions found in a variety of tv/film. I just watched four episodes of Legion and then the new Strongest Deliveryman…I enjoyed both more than if I had watched one alone. 👍🏽

      Yes, but I really really really really really hate having to watch from some illegal sight. It is very annoying. I am a snob and just wish to turn on the tv, press a button or two, and watch on my nice large screen with my nice big speakers. Not watch on an iPad held in my lap…😑😂😉

      At this point I am just gonna wait and see. Might as well binge watch it later. Netflix may pick it up down the road. Or I could cave…who knows. Hahahaha

Well this sucks. Viki may have all the content that was previously available through Kocowa but not the freaking subtitles!?! So now Viki has to play catch up with the subtitles for 18 episodes.

    what? so Kocowa didn’t provide Viki their “professional subs” after all? Figured that was the point of the collab between the two sites…

      Me too! Or at least would have provided the subs that were already completed. If you already did the work, why not give them to Viki. I can understand that maybe going forward it would still be the work of volunteers, but the subs for the early episodes exist! They are on Kocowa’s website, why not share?!?!? I really thought that this merger would be a blessing. It is still problematic. Just let me watch Reunited Worlds already!!!!

          I’m watching Manhole so I considered going to Viki Pass but I don’t love this drama enough yet to want to pay for it lol and it’s unfortunate to hear Kocowa isn’t sharing their subs 🙁

            I don’t understand why that wouldn’t have been part of the deal. I am paying almost the exact same amount for Kocowa through Viki as I would individually with Kocowa. The discussion on Viki is that they are given Kocowa content raw. I think it is stinky that they do not/will not share their professional subs. They are still subbing their content on their app, why are these subs not then on Viki??? Very frustrating. I thought this was a great partnership because it meant bypassing Kocowa’s terrible viewing playform. Nope. And now we must wait for the subbers to play catch up on these shows. I feel bad for them. They have tons of work ahead of them. And really, there is no guarantee the subs will ever be completed. Kocowa really is the pits.

Thank you Viki. I cancelled my stupid Kocowa membership (thankfully it was still free) and signed up for Viki Pass Plus enabling me to also view Kocowa content. Kocowa was the WORST streaming service.

      I had the exact same reaction! Yay! No more dealing with stupid Kocowa!

      I know the Korean entertainment industry has been hurting since China threw a hissy fit over THAAD, and has been looking for new sources of revenue. And I enjoy their product enough that I am ok contributing my money to the cause. I am not ok sending my money to a crappy app like Kocowa.

      I could wax poetic about Kocowa. I think many people have ranted about it here (see previous post of mine even). When they launched they didn’t have the app ready, when it was up, you couldn’t cast it to your tv, terrible costomer service (I never got a reply), no app for Roku like devices to watch directly on the tv. I could complain more. Hahaha.

      And yes, to my knowledge, Viki Plus Pass is both streaming services combined. All content is through Viki, so no need to use stinky Kocowa app. For me I saved $1 by going this route as well since individually I paid $3.99 for Viki and would have been charged $6.99 for Kocowa. The Plus Pass is $9.99 for both. So with this I eliminate Kocowa from the equation completely but still get access to their content. Win for me!

        I’ve only tried the Kocowa free 24 hr pass on the mobile app and thought it was just ok. Nothing impressive that’s for sure.

        Excellent rant thread. Thanks for linking, I missed it first time around.

        Things that I, personally, don’t like about Kocowa:

        They won’t let you screencap.

        They blur out the sponsor banners at the end of an episode. (Mostly funny, but also kind of annoying.)

        There is no rewind button. If you missed a sub, tough cookies.

        They renamed all of the shows ala Netflix.

        They try to translate the untranslatable, ie oppa, ahjumma. (To be fair, DF is guilty of this as well.)

        They won’t play on the computer, only the app. Which means my sister has to watch on her phone rather than her laptop. (I use my tablet.)

        They have a ridiculous model for non-paying clients. You can watch shows with ads, but only if they less than 24 hours old or older than 3 weeks but less than a year old. Why?!?!?!

        The app shuts down every time I switch to a different app. So if I pause a show to look something up on Chrome, when I try to go back to Kocowa, it has to restart.

        It hogs all the licenses, forcing me to deal with them or go to the hated 3rd party sites. Or, you know, find a new addiction.

          I didn’t see one actually. Doesn’t mean they don’t have one, this hotel is massive-600 rooms!! But, it would be so cool to have that music playing as you waited in the lobby.

          I totally want to ask staff “hey do you remember when they filmed a Korean TV show here?” “Was Gong Yoo as hot in real life as he is on screen?” Hahahaha.
