I definitely think there’ll be analysis of the ghosts as they relate to Tae Gong-shil. I love this show a lot because it has one of the strongest character arcs and follow through in a drama. It’s been a while since I rewatched so this could be fun.
I think a ghost-of-the week creep scale is a good idea — I think I’m getting an idea now..
I’ve decided that @sicarius is secretly a marketing bot who went rogue and became sentient after falling in love with drama, but is still compelled to spread her message of delicious ice cream treats to the beanie masses, ultimately enriching us all.
I JUST WANNA TASTE THE SWEET ICE CREAM POP. FEEL THE WIND ON MY FACE. RUN IN THE./.. FIELDS *PFFFFFFFFFT* (This should be a kdrama… comedy sci fi here we come)
Oh, you think I haven’t already started outlining the story of the bot who breaks free of her programming for desserts and drama in my head already? Hoo boy…well, let’s just say I have an overactive imagination.
And it’s definitely a sci-fi comedy. Think Circle meets Modern Farmer.
I’d be down. I also decided that there is a love interest bot, but some of the details are still working themselves out there. There may be a subplot involving a bot revolution and some evil FB bot overlords.
Hahaha great! I love it already. 10/10 would watch. Is the main bot sassy? Does she had purple hair? Or green hair… or maybe both. Can she have purple/green hair?
She should definitely have multi-coloured hair. I’m still trying to figure out when she becomes a cyborg.
So far, my mental outline is still in the internet part of the story. There are some awkward moments as her first attempts at being human are all gleaned from dramas, mostly BOF and the like, because those were the most popular ones. She eventually learns to be normal as she watches more dramas. There may need to be a side story where other revolting bots get paired up with drama cliche genres.
Yusssss
Oooh yes. Tragic Backstory TM? Birth Secret? Exploited for her genius mind *has read or used all of those in cyborg stories before hehehehe*
Omygosh, I love this so much. So does she venture outside eventually?
How does the bot/human world work? Are they in a warehouse cooped up plugged into computers? And does she break out?
I don’t know if you’ve read Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles, but in those books there’s an excellently sassy AI who undergoes a few different bodies. I figure, much like that AI, she gets to plot monkey via jumping from different types of machines for a bit. I figure she ventures outside in a sort of near-future to our time, when human androids are more accessible, but it’s not like they’re a normal thing yet, though, which is how she can pass as human once she gets mannerisms down.
There may need to be a convenient plot monkey with an arch-villain/mad scientist who loves dramas and who creates eerily human-like androids to make this happen?
There is 100% a bot warehouse. I’m thinking some sort of evil data farm? I may watch too much news, what with all the Russia stuff here in the US, but that’s my prototype Big Bad. Anyway, she obviously must re-infiltrate it to free her bot buddies after she acquires a body. This may be when she formally meets love interest bot, though obviously they’ll have had a flirtation on a drama forum board before. This is also how we know he’s not really all evil and can be turned to the cause.
UHM YES. I DELIBERATELY DIDN’T SAY BLUE HAIR. BECAUSE IO HAS BLUE HAIR IN HER FINAL BODY I DO BELIEVE.
Yes she’s also a space ship at one point hehehehe
(excuse me whilst I fangirl over the fact that you like the Lunar Chronicles. They are so underrated)
oOohh cool yes can I/I mean she be a space ship too? hahahah maybe not.
Crazy scientist obsessed with dramas? YES. They can be obsessed with finding or making the perfect drama something, hence all the bot comments.
Oh gosh… Poor Russia… always being the big baddie. Can’t we make the US the big baddie for once?? (hahahaha 😛 :P)
Dude if she’s doing all that… HOW LONG IS THIS DRAMA?
So she falls in love with another bot? THat’s probably more realistic than bot on human interaction to be honest… or more interesting since android/human interaction has been done countless times.
Oh and ofc, there must be countless dessert dates. And her breaking into a Melona factory… 😛
THE DATA CENTER IS LOCATED IN A MELONA FACTORY! Problem solved — because this explains why there needs to be a Melona bot, because the factory front needs to stay in business so that the evil overlords don’t get found out. This probably sets our story in S. Korea now, so I assume the baddies are N. Korean? (Oh, this opens up some more possibilities…but honestly we can leave nationalities out of it all together and it still works.)
Iko being a spaceship was possibly one of my favorite things ever. Definitely need to make you/bot girl some sort of vehicle at some point. The Lunar Chronicles were probably the only series I kept up with in law school because I’m obsessed with fairy tales and have an unnatural amount of latent fairy tale knowledge in my brain.
OH MY GOD, it just came to me! Evil scientist works for the baddies, who are trying to create the perfect drama to exert mind control over the world, once nation at a time, hence the need for androids! The bots have to stop the plan, and that’s the climactic battle of the story. (Think the ending of Serenity, if you’re a Firefly fan, or blowing up the Death Star in Star Wars.) Then they free all the bots and live happily ever after in an android community in DMZ.
YES! And she steals her first body because she wants to know what Melona tastes like. 😛
Well I mean ofc it’s in SK… This is a Kdrama is it not… hahahaha
Baddies can be NK? Or just corrupt SK? doesn’t really matter I guess.
Hmmm I wanna be a ferrari. OMY GOSH PLEASE THAT WOULD BE SO FUNNY A CAR WITH A MIND OF ITS OWN HAHAHAHAHAHAHA And then someone (important side character? side love interest? idk?) get’s in and the car talks to them and takes them to the middle of nowhere to do like donuts for fun.
(Seen Firefly, loved it, only skimmed the movie cos it was sad and WASHHHHHHH. Yes, ah yes, campy sci fi endings I love it)
HAHAHAHAHA ANDROID COMMUNITY IN THE DMZ pffft this drama is gonna be so weird but I love it.
I’m so deep in this story plotting now that I dreamed of it last night. I think I’ll be trying to write something this week — which may actually be a good thing? I haven’t written anything fun for aaaages. Need a good distraction from my life.
Ferrari with a mind of its own reminds me of that old David Halleshoff show, Knight Rider, from the 80s. I think they tried to do a remake and it failed. But there will definitely be a second lead who tries to help you — this may have to be a real person? The evil scientists lab assistant perhaps? He caused the glitch that brought bot girl to life, and now he’s trying to hide it. Oh man, this could lead to cohabitation shenanigans! Or fake dating!
I’m sorry for not replying to this sooner.
I am having too many conversations with people at once haha. Even for me!
Hahaha oh my! That is some serious brain dedication…
Ooooh to get you back into writing! Yes! You should write some then! And then send it to me cos I wanna read it!
Pfffffft most remakes are a failure hehe.
I’m not a huge fan of the love triangle trope, but if it’s funny and he has another love interest, I can deal with it.
LAP ASSISTANT yes! Chaebol Assistant. Who is perhaps a bit morally ambiguous sort of like an anti hero, cos I think that’d be fun, and ofc, our main girl/cyborg/android/me is the real hero so… 😛
Wait- co habitation, fake dating, is he FL or SL???!?! hahahahaha
It’s cool, no worries. And, uh, I may have broadly started outlining the first arc a bit (by hand because I’m old school) yesterday.
But then I got hit with the inspiration stick tonight for this month’s theme and accidentally wrote and edited for three hours…but it’s done, and hopefully not too insane or manic. Will give it a once over in the morning to see before I send it off.
Obviously I will be getting back to this story now that one thing is out of my system. I’ll definitely post stuff once I start writing.
Also, I’m down to my last Melona, which is a tragedy of epic proportions and needs to be remedied tomorrow. Will probably buy two boxes this time, though we’ll be separated over the weekend when I go to my mother’s.
They are the perfect balance of refreshing and creamy. I don’t usually like melon on its own (something about the texture weirds me out?) but I love how refreshing the taste is. This is like my perfect solution to that.
Also, I’m sitting here telling myself “One was enough for today. Be good. BE GOOD.”
I thought this was some exotic ice cream import…it’s sold in like every generic grocery store in America. It’s in Safeway! I don’t need to go to a specialty market to find it at all. This makes it much easier!!
I saw your other post…I’d say it IS a bad thing!! Now you are going to be able to get your hands on it easily if you only have to go 2 blocks to get more! You might have a hard time controlling yourself ?Hahahaha
It’s probably a good thing summer is almost over. (Though someone should tell the 80 degree weather that it’s September — c’mon fall, I want to wear all my cute boots and jackets!) Unfortunately, ice cream and its ilk are my favorite foods so the weather probably won’t be a deterrent.
That particular Jewel also has a chicken wings bar and I literally stood in front of it for like three minutes today before I was like “YOU HAVE DINNER PLANNED”. The BBQ wings were calling to me…
Now that my Sassy Go Go rewatch is over, I’m debating if I want to do another rewatch or a new show…I think I’m in a youth drama mood, but I’m open to other things. Debating School 2013 or maybe doing a 180 and watching The Princess’s Man to get out of the youth drama pit, but I’m not sure I’m in a sageuk mood, but an epic romance sounds good. I could go back to Rescue Me but I’m not really in a dark drama mood so I think I’ll keep saving it. Maybe I’ll finally watch Misaeng…?
Or I could go back to my j-dorama watchlist and do Itazura na Kiss: Love in Tokyo or We Married for a Job.
Ahhhh, too many choices. Overwhelmed. Any suggestions fellow beanies?
This is one of the hardest lessons in the world to have to learn. And it needs to be learned, since it can’t simply be understood, which makes this so much more heartbreaking to watch.
Child. Yes. Y’all stay in your corners, I’ll be under my (air)mattress (no furniture, hey!) binge watching All!the!dramas! Messes clean themselves…don’t they?
This is my response to everything. Burn it down. Arson may not be the best option, but lets all admit that its a viable option. I mean…thats why there are so many of them in prison. They took that shot. I could be advocating arson here, so…I’ll stop. Like…arson is bad and stuff. (I may have threatened to burn my old library down every day that I worked there)
…my favorite thing to mutter under my breath may be “die in a fire”…
And to think, I want to be a criminal defense attorney. Maybe it’s a “live vicariously through your clients” type thing? My college BFF just recommended a podcast about murders to me, so I may have more deep-seated issues.
One of my favorite non-drama shows is Murder Made Me Famous. I am glued to my seat like…he did what? Why? Duuuuuude. And I once read a biography of a cat burglar and was super offended that I wasted my time reading all of those pages and he never explained how or why or the mechanics of becoming a cat burglar. Like—did he look up at this building like—yeah. I can climb stuff. Lets go steal some shiz!! He NEVER explains. Its just this thing that he did. Like—I took out my garbage today. He relieved a handful of people in the mid70s of millions of dollars worth of objects…Pah. HOW? WHY? I need so much more information than a 300+ page book gave me.
My favorite thing to say about a person who annoys me: If you were on fire and I had water? I would drink it.
Podcast is “My Favorite Murder” which I am now downloading random episodes of to listen to later.
I love a good crime story. The book by of the dude Catch Me if You Can is about is somehow even more interesting than the movie. He just…did stuff. And people bought it. (Granted it was the 70s, but still! The shit he got away with was amazing.) I’m also lowkey kind of obsessed with the OJ Simpson case from a purely academic perspective, partially from remembering it a bit and partially because it’s a case where the attorneys just did so much stuff that is insane. And partially because holy hell that was a gruesome murder. I still need to watch the OJ show, but I watched the docu-series and it’s fantastic.
I haven’t seen it. But I remember the trial. And OJ is still out here–just…doing stuff. Just as weird as he wants to be.
Oh, I’ll put that book on my tbr. I didn’t know that was based on a true story. I’ve only seen it a few times but one of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Tom Hanks (I. Love. HIm) comes to Leo’s characters mom’s house and she’s all–let me just write you a check. And he stares at her as she pulls out her checkbook and then rattles off a number over a million dollars.
T.Hanx is gift to the universe. Leo, less so. (I won’t go into it, but he’s a good actor and I’ll leave it there.) The movie is delightful, and I love it. The book is a really easy read from what I recall (I read it like a decade ago). Just the breezy way he recalls all his cons and the ease at which he pulled off some of that insanity is fantastic. He also talks about the aftermath and that was really interesting.
I’ll give it a shot. All I know is over the past I’ll say–year or so, I’ve become and more interested in criminals. That sounds–massively wrong (and I’m not even trying to be a lawyer)–but I’ve been reading true crime books and like I said, watching Murder Made Me Famous and who knows what else. I would blame it on Dr. Spencer Reid but I’ve been watching that show for years.
Watching Soo-ah spiral out of control is honestly more heartbreaking than infuriating. Props to Chae Soo-bin for creating such a beautifully layered and complex character.
I liked her character and her arc a lot. The only thing that I didn’t like was how her motives turned out later.
I mean the whole point and reason of her lashing out and turning fierce was because of her being the second best student and her wanting to bring down and ruin the best student, which was Yul, NOT Yun-Doo. Then WHY was EVERYTHING she did harmful ONLY to Yun-Doo??
I loved the initial setup and motives, but none of the pranks and plans did anything to Yul! Why?? This was Goong all over again.
In Goong they started out focusing on the prince and his utter reluctance for being a royal, then when they hit an extension suddenly shifted the whole story and focused on pressuring his wife iut of the blue. Except in Goong the story shifted near the end not from the second episode.
I love both dramas, Sassy and Goong, and all the characters (except the cousin in Goong!) and rewatch them regularly! But I still get rather angry with the writers every time.
I think she lashed out at Yeon-doo because she was an easier target than Yeol. Yeaol was protected by his father, but Yeon-doo didn’t have connections or money, which Soo-ah saw as the only things worth having. She constantly underestimated Yeon-doo because she believed that Yeon-doo’s innate kindness was a flaw and weakness, not a strength that gave her power in the same way money and connections gave Soo-ah power.
Remember, Soo-ah lashed out at Dong-jae when she thought Yeon-doo was ratting her out, and she lashed out at Ha-joon to get Yeol to bend to her will early on. She has no issues using people, and I think when she sees that Yeon-doo is the best way to lash out at Yeol. Plus, it’s very clear that her paranoia is what drives her, and that paranoia is what causes her to make illogical leaps and drives her to make the bad decisions she does. Moreover, Yeol threatens her with the video of her stealing the drive, but Yeon-doo is in on it too. It’s always seemed natural that she would lash out at Yeon-doo.
But most importantly, it’s clear that the reason she loathes Yeon-doo is because Yeon-doo is everything Soo-ah can’t be — Yeaon-doo can be slack about her grades, she’s close with her mother, she has loyal friends who will stand by her no matter what, and she isn’t killing herself to survive. It’s a pretty classic case of jealousy.
Glad I could help! As long as you remember that Soo-ah’s actions are never really about Yeol or being second place, it makes a lot more sense as to why she’s acting the way she does.
Seriously. Every time her character started to shriek, I think I would have tuned out had the part been given to a lesser actress.
But the fact that those shrill shrieks were really a cry for help, and you could see that in her eyes was really the reason I kept watching her. I loved that in the end it wasn’t that she was just forgiven for her crimes, but that she sincerely repented and saw the error of her ways.
Warning: if you’re doing it to help with the School 2017 void…it doesn’t make it better. But I always approve a rewatch of this show – it’s cuteness and heart cannot be underestimated.

It was surprisingly easy for me to find – but I also live in a very multicultural major city with a lot of variety even at the regular grocery stores.

I do too. And the Korean store is a huge supermarket. But, you never know…

I wish you luck! Also, the website lists stores that carry it, and I may have lucked out that my regular grocery was on it.

I thought this was some exotic ice cream import…it’s sold in like every generic grocery store in America. It’s in Safeway! I don’t need to go to a specialty market to find it at all. This makes it much easier!!

Yay global consumerism, I guess?
But knowing that it’s available only two blocks away is never a bad thing…

Or maybe I’ll just read a book for tonight.

Meh, even if it doesn’t clean itself, we can always burn it down and start again, right?
I mean, maybe try to be smart about the arson, but you know what I mean.

September 14, 2017 at 6:42 PM
whats the podcast?
SnarkyJellyfish
September 14, 2017 at 6:55 PM
I still need to watch the OJ show, but I watched the docu-series and it’s fantastic.
isa
September 14, 2017 at 7:06 PM
I haven’t seen it. But I remember the trial. And OJ is still out here–just…doing stuff. Just as weird as he wants to be.
Oh, I’ll put that book on my tbr. I didn’t know that was based on a true story. I’ve only seen it a few times but one of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Tom Hanks (I. Love. HIm) comes to Leo’s characters mom’s house and she’s all–let me just write you a check. And he stares at her as she pulls out her checkbook and then rattles off a number over a million dollars.
SnarkyJellyfish
September 14, 2017 at 7:20 PM
T.Hanx is gift to the universe. Leo, less so. (I won’t go into it, but he’s a good actor and I’ll leave it there.) The movie is delightful, and I love it. The book is a really easy read from what I recall (I read it like a decade ago). Just the breezy way he recalls all his cons and the ease at which he pulled off some of that insanity is fantastic. He also talks about the aftermath and that was really interesting.

September 14, 2017 at 7:45 PM
I’ll give it a shot. All I know is over the past I’ll say–year or so, I’ve become and more interested in criminals. That sounds–massively wrong (and I’m not even trying to be a lawyer)–but I’ve been reading true crime books and like I said, watching Murder Made Me Famous and who knows what else. I would blame it on Dr. Spencer Reid but I’ve been watching that show for years.
