Beanie level: Errand boy

Years ago, we had Kangto Potato. Now, we have Dong Chul Jajangmyeon

why the other three bumpkins didn’t come to pick him up 😭😭 I know he’d been rejecting visits from them, but still…they could still try one last time to meet him.

    3
    1

I agree. I kinda of see their point but they could have tried harder even if it meant getting rejected by Dong Chul for the umpteenth time.

Felt so frustrated watching this episode. Maybe it’s much harder than we imagine for Sang Mi to just forget about getting her parents out and run away.

      3
      1

It’s hard because she’s not exposed to outside world for the past three years, and all her life, she’d been depending on her parents as she was a teenager before. If she just run away and leave now, where can she go? I bet she doesn’t earn any money working at Guseowon. And they were such a happy family before all those thing happened. I understand Sang Mi’s desperation for wanting her family to be back normal as they were before.

This drama never fails to shock me.

    1

They do use the shock tactics especially in Apostle Jo’s scenes but this drama is truly dark and disturbing. It makes other crime dramas look fake. Who needs psychopathic killers to scare viewers when you have monsters like Jo and Father Baek?

    2
    1

I thought you are watching School 2017, no? Or is slump defined as less than 5 dramas?

My current list has dwindled to 2 – Rescue Me and School 2017. I don’t have the will to watch Strongest Deliveryman or Falsify.

      1
      1

I usually watch 2-3 dramas per week. But now it’s down to 1 and it feels really weird. None of the upcoming dramas catch my attention either. That’s why it feels like a drama slump for me.

Rescue Me is too creepy (I don’t know why the cult scares me more than psycopathic serial killer) so for now I just read the recaps.

        1
        2

I am not scared by psychopathic killers at all. Well, at least those depicted in kdramas. I’d say Rescue Me is disturbing and the drama managed to get me invested in the characters so I’ll continue.

I was at one point watching 5 dramas. 2 feels like heading towards a slump.

Interview with writer Lee Soo Yeon of FOS.
I totally agree that some of the best actors come from theater. Jo Seung Woo(SM), Yoo Jae Myung(LCJ), Lee Kyu Hyung(Yoon) have theater backgrounds.

So for his next drama maybe Jo Jung Seok as the lead actor😍 Shin Sung Rok can be part of the main casts too. Omo how amazing it would be.

Ratings for Wed dramas are dismal except for MWDTL which keeps rising.
Manhole debuts in what must be one of the lowest for a premiere 😱 – 3.1%. Criminal Minds goes down to 2.368%.

2
11

I was surprised that Manhole premiered lower that SDQ and School premiere’s rating. I was expected to see it got around 6-7% at least. Ahjussshi still holding power 😂 I guess Ha Ji Won’s drama will be easier to win the rating later.

    3
    1

Tbh, I couldn’t resist posting this pic which I thought was hilarious. Look at Shin Sung Rok’s face! From ep 1, I wanted to see his FIL ‘kill’ him, LOL. Yeah, Ahjusshi is rocking it.

I am shocked at Manhole’s ratings. I didn’t think it would be fantastic but wasn’t expecting it to be so low. I wonder if it’s got to do with anti sentiments towards JJ or Uee? I’m not saying there is, just that kpop and k entertainment world are kinda complex for me to understand.

      3
      2

hahaha, I know. I saw many hilarious pics as well!

I’m not sure about it. I don’t think both JJ and Uee can bring the audiences that much. They are either hit or miss for me. Just like Yoona and Siwan for TKL where they are famous idols esp Yoona, but still can’t bring many audiences to watch their drama. But still the rating below 4% for 1st epi was too low.

OTT, Uee is way too skinny. When she is beside Jung Hye Sung, you can easily notice who is the one looks healthier and prettier.

        2
        0

That might be the case too. Jaejoong is not a stable actor, I watched his drama, Triangle, he’s good there but I heard his performance in Spy drama was not that great. The same case with Uee, she’s good in Marriage Contract, I guess mostly because Lee Seo Jin’s influence, but in other dramas, she’s lack of expression. I don’t like her in Night Light because she’s too bland, even that drama receives low ratings.

        1
        1

I agree. Both aren’t stable yet and their performance still depends a lot on good script and good directing. Between the two I personally have a soft spot for UEE though. I don’t know why but I haven’t got into JJ yet, both acting and look wise.

          1
          0

It’s hard to like Manhole’s plot, time-travelling and breaking your best friend wedding who you’ve a crush on for more than 20 years. So to me, the fact that they got 3% is acceptable with the amount of promotions that KBS made.

    4
    2

I haven’t watched it yet. Have you watched it?

      0
      1

Yes, I’ve watched it. The first episode is a mess. They introduce way too many characters at once by Bong Pil (Jaejoong) running around the neighborhood meeting all the characters and ranting his frustration about Soo Ji’s wedding in a week. I only like Jung Hye Sung’s character in episode 1 as she seems like the most reasonable person in this drama, but I don’t know, I may be a bit bias because I love her as an actress.

        3
        1

I haven’t watched it but comments so far weren’t positive. This might mean even worse for the show since ep 1 will affect ep 2’s ratings.

Now I’m tempted to check it out. Curiosity always gets the better of me. Ack 😝

“Rescue Me” is such a dark show. Not so much creepy but evil that is so insidious.
1st time watching Seo Ye Ji, she’s very good. TaecYeon is eh…himself and got totally overshadowed by Woo Do Hwan.

7
11

Yeah one more Beanie for Rescue Me !

    2
    1

Somehow I think they casted Taec just for some hype 😆 Agree on Woo Do Hwan, not so agree with Seo Ye Ji but at least she is improving here and she is trying.

I’m worried about what will happen to Sang mi. Somehow I feel she gonna lost her parents too. 😨

    1
    2

Is Taec really that popular to be used as hype? Aren’t there other idol actors they can use?

Im sure he is a nice person and would like to work, but not as a high school student. I want to be absorbed in the world they crated, but my mind keep saying, he is not a student.

      1
      2

I think he is really popular as an idol but not so an actor. Not really sure.

My opinion is this drama is at the stage of them as high school students. I believe it will have a time jump in few more epi, because the synopsis of this drama mentioned they are jobless guys, not four high school students.

        1
        0

I am really bad at kpop. Taec is in 2pm or something like that and Chansung is in that group? I have seen Taec’s face for a long time but I’ve never seen him act. Not intentionally though but read about his shortcomings. I can immediately see why.

It sounds strange but from this appearance alone, I get the vibe that Taec is a nice person in real life, LOL.

        1
        1

I’m bad at kpop too, but I know some legendary group because of Running Man. Haha. And yes Taec is in 2pm together with Chansung and Junho. He is nice person but some of these idols are really fit for variety shows, and not in acting.

          2
          0

Was SYJ not good in her previous dramas? I thought she fitted this role well. Her voice though…strangely deep for such a young girl 😛

I feel very sorry for Sang Mi, I’d really like to know the backstory of her twin. This is the type of buildup that I like in characters. Much like in Solomon’s Perjury. Not like in CM where I can’t be bothered about angst and cause.

      1
      1

haha her voice is what made her unique. She wasn’t that terrible, but her acting is nothing memorable as well. Maybe with right direction, she can do well here.

I’m really worried what will happen to Sang-mi. Somehow I think she will lost her parents too later. 😨 Like I said in my wall, this drama wasn’t in my radar. I was excited for CM but looking at the reactions, it discouraged me to re-pick up on it. Have you gave up on this drama? Lol.

        1
        1

Give up on CM? Yes. I heard that there’s some change in PD again so who knows? Apparently CM is also written by some rookie writers who won a contest held for the purpose.

Taecyeon doesn’t know how to transform himself as an actor and how to change himself andimmerse himself into his character… He’s always very flat and viewers can definitely still see hints of his own personality in the characters he’s cast as DX

            0

I’ve read one very insightful comment on Soompi which I’m going to mention in my own comment later. The original poster says that he feels the drama is doing a disservice to LJK by reducing him to an ‘eye candy’. He says that this makes fans happy, but leaves non-fans frustrated, because the drama instead of investing in building tension and substance is too concerned about selecting angles to make the actors look good.
That comment hits the nail on the head for me.

            1
            0

Pardon my poor memory, got to ask – are you LJK’s fan?

I wonder how more reasonable minded fans of LJK think of this drama and his role in it.

As you know, I am not his fan but I happened to watch his dramas like Two Weeks, tried and gave up The Scholar Who Walks The Night, tried and also gave up Moon Lovers and finally this. Someone commented in Ratings thread that LJK has not been getting hits and I have a theory. However, I think no one will like to read it, LOL. Since it’s just me hypothesizing, I better shut up.

            1
            0

No I’m not a LJK fan. Feel free to shoot me your theory. I’m all ears.

            0
            0

As you know I lurk on soompi and get to observe some interesting things about kdramas, actors and their fans. I can’t remember which thread was it but somehow I read LJK’s thread and saw some pics posted in there. My impression of him is that 1) he is very conscious of his looks 2) he is devoted to his fans and they adore him.

            1) I look at his selfies and go 😲. Maybe all artistes are like that? I prefer those whose instagrams are about other things and selfies are not so ‘posed’ for a lack of a better word. Funny, weird faces or ugly ones even.
It appears to me that after Moon Lovers which he happened to lose weight, he seems to like being ‘skinny’. It has reached the ‘unhealthy’ range. He must look skeletal in person. All this for a chiseled or sharp chin? There are many photos where you can admire his ‘work of art’ chin. Maybe I don’t understand the Korean psyche about beauty.

            2) Well, it’s very nice that to have a celeb who is grateful for his fans and nice to them, there are drawbacks as well. He appears to listen to them and also provide a lot of fanservice. One thing about fans, especially fanatical ones, they can’t give you an objective view. Everything you do will be perfect and awesome. An artiste who only listens to his fans or give them what they want won’t progress much.
Do you remember his recent dating ‘scandal’? I think the reason for his controversial behavior on the variety show with Park Min Young is that he was trying to please his fans and viewers. People loved it so much until the truth came out.

My theory is that Lee Jun Ki is offered roles in which the character is a misunderstood/tragic hero, killer looks amplified, lots of emotional scenes and lots of fanservice too. It appeals to him and they sell it to him. Overlooked are the overall quality of writing, other characters and so forth.

Someone told me that LJK will have his CM role written such that he will shine. I was skeptical because I knew it was a team and moreover you have SHJ and MCW, quite heavyweights. However, I am beginning to see signs of it. Hyun Joon seems smarter than genius boy, first to realize almost everything, lots of suave action – physically taking down criminals, cool biker, charming magician and has children eating out of his hand. The rest of the team are redundant. Maybe they will shine later but I think the window of opportunity had came and gone. We should have at least seen nice decent glimpses by now.

            1
            0

You know what, I can’t agree with you more. I hope I won’t inadvertently offend any LJK fans by my personal observations that I’m going to write here, but yes, I do think that he’s conscious of his looks. To be fair to him, many other K-actors are also conscious of their looks and how they look on screen. I originally like Lee Jong-Suk in IHYV (actually I noticed that in IHYV too, and it built up over time) but got turned off from him for that very reason in a couple of his subsequent dramas, the breaking point being W: Two worlds. That said, I still believe that actors have the chance to shine and forget about the camera if they are allowed and encouraged to do so, and I will continue to give actors the chance in their new dramas, and will only come to my conclusion if I see no difference in their approach.
Now when it comes to looks, it actually often becomes very obvious to me when an actor tries to look good or cool on screen. Slight tilt of the head, a slight lift at the corner of the mouth for that arrogant but attractive smirk, eyes looking down to project a sense of superiority and control, body perfectly straight and posture mimicking a catwalk fashion model. That’s what I often refer to as their attempt to ‘look cool’ in front of the camera. Or the overly angsty or arrogant look. I’ve noticed many of those in CM, not only donned by LJK himself, but also Go Yoon (the actor who plays the supposed genius Lee Han) in many scenes. Usually I don’t have a problem with that. It’s just a minor pet peeve of mine but as long as the story progresses nicely and other characters are not overshadowed, I’m in for the ride and won’t voice my complaints! However if the show sacrifices its quality for fan services, I would be among the first to lament because I’m not watching a drama to gush about certain actors. If I want to admire their beauty that much I’d rather buy 360 posters of them taken at 360 different angles, put them on the walls in my room and look at them all day.
Now that you mention it, it also dawns on me the type of characters LJK might be drawn to. Looking at his past works, yes, there’s a clear pattern that he’s been going for the tragic hero path no matter what the genres. While I understand that those characters appeal to a certain number of viewers, I would appreciate more variety. Though I’m not a fan of Joo Won nor like him in every single of his works, I appreciate his roles in Gaksital and Good Doctor. They might not have been played to perfection but they allowed me to see the guy pushing himself to different limits. Same goes for Jo Seung-Woo and his very different roles in The Classic, Marathon and then FOS. The thing I appreciate about them in those works is that they are not concerned about being ‘swoon-worthy’. Strangely when an actor is made to look swoon-worthy, either by writing, directing or acting, that often turns me off.

            1
            0

Actually when the news of K-CM first came out that featured LJK accepting the offer, I was expecting something along the line of Two Weeks. There were heavy stock expressions in that drama too, but I liked it nonetheless because no one was elevated at the expense of anyone else, or at least that’s how I feel. I actually got excited and curious when @kiara said that episode 3 of CM, based on the original ‘Derailed’ episode, would be Lee Han’s character playfield, only to be disappointed because the self-proclaimed genius has been doing nothing but citing trivias easily found on the Internet and gushing over the star of the show that is Hyun Joon. It’s very disappointing for a drama that is supposed to be about a team and teamwork.

            0
            0

” If I want to admire their beauty that much I’d rather buy 360 posters of them taken at 360 different angles, put them on the walls in my room and look at them all day.”
LoooooL!!! It’s past midnight here, I almost burst out laughing.

It’s true that most actors are narcissistic to a certain extent. Eh…can you imagine how many people will be upset if I use such words? I don’t blame them for taking care of their looks because that’s their asset. Their livelihood depends on it. However, I dislike actors who are conscious of how they look on screen. It interferes with their acting. I can actually tell when an actor does that but you are even more observant than me. I didn’t notice in detail those stuff that LJK and Go Yoon did.

What struck me was that LJK’s acting in some scenes were weirdly out of place. For example, in ep 3. He was to disguise as some expert and enter the train. He looked like a model on a catwalk walking towards the train with a swagger. Yes, it delighted his fans and it was a visual treat I suppose but it was so unbelievable and made the thing a farce.

Same with his interaction with the children on the show. I dunno how to describe but there’s something about it that doesn’t fit the show. Too cheery? Too artificial? Neither did I like the way he was impressed with MCW’s tackle. For that, all it takes is a small smile. Less is more but it doesn’t happen often with him.

” Strangely when an actor is made to look swoon-worthy, either by writing, directing or acting, that often turns me off.”
Same for me! That’s why I don’t like LMH. Eh…hope he’s not your bias 😜
Already most actors are good looking and has charisma. Emphasizing on swoon worthiness so blatantly has it place only in comedies where it’s fodder for laughs. In romance of course, there might be some of these moments but it must be approached carefully or all you get is over the top cheesiness. Yuks!

I have no reference to the original CM but even I can see that other members of the team are overshadowed by Hyun Joo and it’s the writing. It spoils the enjoyment because they just look dumb and useless.

Hero centric dramas are common. However, LJK must know that writers who elevate a character in the manner we discussed, cannot produce good quality dramas.
He chooses tragic heroes so that viewers can empathize with the character and he can showcase his famous emotional acting. That was the case with Wang So. I just found it so incredible that they had to make him such a pitiful character. Sorry to say this but every time I look at the faded scar, I can’t help but giggle. Because they made such a big fuss about it. Moon Lovers was another case where the writer gave lots of fanservice and manufactured all the unnecessary angst. I think the pattern was the same in SWWTN. I didn’t finish but some clips had me splitting my sides in laughter. Again, laughing for the wrong reason.

Going to bed, it’s almost 2am, ha. Chat again tmrw, goodnight 😴

Nite nite, sleep tight and don’t let that overly cheesy looks haunt you in your dreams XD (j/k)
A disclaimer: I don’t consider many actors my bias, and very often I would like them after certain dramas but in a new one if they are not up to par, my admiration is back to square one. No offence taken if you criticise those that I like.
Some that I don’t fall under their charms: Seo In-Guk, Lee Jong-Suk, Lee Jun-Ki, Lee Min-Ho, Jang Geun-Suk, Kim Soo Hyun, Jung Il-Woo and perhaps a few more but those are whom I can recall immediately off the top of my head.
I think I like Yeo Jin-Goo (but not in Reunited World – I just can’t connect with anyone in that drama, sadly), Kim Yoo-Jung (but not very much in Moonlight), Kim So-Hyun (but not very much in Ruler). Now I’m under the charms of Jo Seung-Woo and Bae Doo-Na. Well, actually the majority of the cast in FoS tbh. Having said that, I won’t get hurt if you don’t think highly of any actors or actresses that I like, so never be afraid of stepping on my toes. I might sound aggressive in my comments but I know better than to take criticism personally. It’s a part of my job, actually, to deal with criticism, and I know that my favourite actor being criticised won’t make me less worthy of a person. I don’t usually identify with an actor that much 😉

My list looks pretty much like yours although I am more neutral towards LJS and SIG. Their acting is a hit and miss for me. However, definitely I don’t get charmed.
I like Yeo Jin Goo and was gushing about him. I do think he’s awfully talented but there are parts in Reunited World which IMO, made him lose some points in terms of acting.

It’s natural to have some knee jerk reaction when you read a negative comment about someone you like. It doesn’t make me react enough to comment though because first, I am quite aware of the weaknesses in the actors I like. No one is above criticism. Even if he/she is a great actor, there’s personal preference. Everything is so subjective. At the very most, you might want to reply “I don’t agree. I think rather than overacting, he is emoting very well” blah blah blah.
Those fans who cannot take criticism as if they are the ones being insulted are too obsessed.
Maybe because I always feel that I don’t know an actor personally, I don’t feel that kind of attachment to them. I fangirl for fun. For example, Ha Suk Jin. I don’t want to know what’s he really like in real life, LOL. Maybe he’s very smart, maybe he’s a playboy…well who really knows? I don’t even think he’s a very fantastic actor. He’s good in some things though.

    Another confession/ rant here.
I’m sad that some people still try to shut down opposing opinions by shooing other commentors away, under the guise of concern for the other’s ‘well-being’ or personal use of free time. I’m also sad that a few others still see this as the ‘right’ way to tackle differing opinions. I don’t understand why people would blame others for the discussion not going the way they want either. Either to remain in a thread or to move away from it is a personal choice. Do people get affected by negative criticisms? Yes, and I do believe that their frustration/ annoyance/ irritation/ hurt feelings are valid – I feel it too when my favourite dramas are criticised. Is that a valid reason to protest? Yes, I also believe in this. Is verbally requesting others to shut up (either the majority or the minority) or invalidating their opinions by villainising them a valid form of protest? No, absolutely not. I will shut up to reasons but I strongly believe that no one has the right to tell others to go away just because they can’t get their way.
I will still voice my opinion on this, but I’m still sad.

Oh that! It’s so obvious, isn’t it? Doesn’t stop me if I really want to comment.

Maybe I am been on soompi for too long though not active. I prefer to lurk. I am immune to all this craziness. They can call me dumb, blind or deaf, doesn’t bother me at all. If I want, I can even troll them but it’s a waste of time. I rather engage with beanies who talk sense even if they don’t agree with me. Just recently in FOS finale recap, one beanie said FOS had flaws. I replied her with a long post. It’s true that FOS has flaws. Maybe when i rewatch, I will find more. However, I just dont’ agree with the flaws which she pointed out. She replied amiably and really that’s what it should be. By the way, I read her comments on CM and she likes the show. Do I need to point out to her why she shouldn’t? No. One man’s meat is another man’s poison 😉

Ikr. I understand that you can deal with those attempts, which I consider poor in both debating etiquette and reasons, but it just makes my blood boil if someone is told to shut up. Even if I don’t necessarily agree with that person’s opinions in general, I would be tempted to come to their defence.

Yes, I noticed that conversation between you and her too. I also don’t consider some of those plotholes or random development, having seen the ‘chance discovery’ of super hard-to-notice evidence too frequently in crime show, so YJ’s discovery of the blood stain didn’t come across as random to me (why random – the dog was purposely killed close to that place to draw her attention; and her looking around for things that might be out of the ordinary is very much expected of a seasoned cop). You have put my thoughts into words so I just silent read instead 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, we should speak up. I am too non reactive. Thanks to your comments, DB came and clean the thread. I cannot assume what doesn’t bother won’t bother others.

I have also reflected on why I sometimes let things slip(in dramas) and why sometimes I don’t. I do come across as quite ‘nitpicky’ 😜 when I rant on some dramas of late like Ruler and now CM. I think for me there’s this thing called critical mass. Once the number of flaws or maybe the type of flaws(that bother me) increased to a certain level, my rant machine starts. LOL.

I also realized that my pet peeves are pretentious productions. Trying to look smart and cool but actually not. FOS on first glance looks like one of this type but man, they have the substance to show for it!

Should I give up watching crime shows? I muttered too many “WT*” in less than half an hour. It’s one of my favorite genres, otoke!!!

    Have you tried Falsify?
I haven’t. Am pondering whether or not to give it a go.

No, I haven’t. The review for premiere week wasn’t very assuring.

Too bad. I’m craving some crime dramas right now but CM unfortunately doesn’t do it for me.
I’ll check out Falsify then if I’m not into it perhaps I’ll have to wait until the next batch of dramas :'(

Is there any promising crime dramas in the horizon?

Btw, are you fan of MCW? I wanted her to be in a good role after the awful mess of Goodbye Mr Black but CM doesn’t look like it.

          0
          3

I might say I’m a fan of certain actresses but it’s more like my way of saying that I like them :D. It’s not like I’m a die-hard fan or anything. If I see their names pop up I’ll likely check out a drama for them because knowing that they did well in a certain role in the past evokes a sense of ‘trust’, so to speak. However if the story doesn’t click I’ll just move on.
She hasn’t impressed me in CM, sadly. The three veteran actors’ acting feels very cookie-cutterish. I expected more from them tbh.

            0

Same with me. I can’t call myself a fan and won’t watch a drama for even my fave.

For MCW, I think she’s limited by how her role is written. I am into ep 3 and so far, there’s hardly any development or action from her character. I am most frustrated with SJH but again, I think it’s the writing and directing.

            0
            0

You’re right, maybe I’ve been too harsh. The writing and directing take the majority of the blame. When three leads who are generally considered strong actors act in somewhat similar manners it makes you question the director’s approach.
Actually I can sit through CM with SJH, LJK and MCW, but everyone else feels so out of place. Even the villains are sometimes comical it takes the tension away from the story.

me no better. I stopped in less than 10 minutes. FoS made me have no mercy toward others.

Prior to starting, I actually chanted “don’t compare, don’t compare”. Actually I didn’t compare but still I got so irked. Stubborn thing that I am, I insist on finishing it to see if there’s anything redeemable. I’m afraid FOS will be the last crime show I watch in a long time.

      2
      0

I did check out CM and tried not to compare it to FoS so I went and compared it to the original since I’m a fan. But nah, the first two ep didn’t work for me. But I read here that the 2nd half of the 3rd episode was good. So here’s to hoping it’s going to be better.

Okay, I just finished CM ep 3 seconds ago. Forget about FOS, it’s eh….I think it’s best you watch it yourself. Now, I have a lot of questions as to what the original was really like.

      1

Lol, that’s the thing though, I’m not really that eager to watch the next episode. I’ll probably get around it next weekend. The original is already on its 13th season, so yea. 😁 I love Dr. Reid, who is the genius is the team, but here the actor ??? yes. 😂

        1

So the original is ongoing? I can’t remember if I ever had watched a crime profiling show. I’ve watched plenty of crime dramas that feature criminal profiling though. After watching this Korean version, I feel like I need to check what a good criminal profiling show is really like. Maybe I should just watch a full episode of the original – any recommendation?

          0
          1

Yes, it’s still ongoing. Oh, I’ve watched the first episode a few years ago but I think it’s safe to suggest the first episode. 😂 Although you might see how outdated it is because if I remember correctly the first episode aired around 2005.

I think Yeo Jin put extra effort into this portrait cuz it was kinda like a farewell gift for Shi Mok. Her efforts sure paid off. It is stuck on Shi Mok’s monitor, something which he faces every day.

Shi Mok!!! How can you resist those lips?
Yeo Jin puckering her lips is the cutest thing ever and it was hilarious that Jung Bon 💐 had a thing for her 😍

This scene was so cute and awkward.

    Jung-bon’s gift made me cackle!
I’m so glad he wasn’t two-faced after all.

I love the scene where Yeo Jin’s colleagues made a huge fuss over the flowers. This drama is just as delightful in its lighter moments as in their heavy ones.

That scene was so natural and well done. I mean, guys would always be guys. They would always tease the females when they receive flowers and lipstick from another guy, especially if the said female is tough and seems tomboyish most of the time. I like how that scene also shows their camaraderie.

I was happy about that too! I was waiting for the other shoe to drop with him every episode but nope!

A pity SM is too focused on his noodles to notice her puckering her lips. Aw. It’s too adorably dorky of SM to notice her lips and comment they look strange. Haha. I was even surprised that he noticed them in the first place.

I bet he noticed it right off the bat and was itching to comment on how weird it was lol.

I loooved that scene. you could tell that she was happily self-conscious about her lipstick and seemed to want him to comment on it (in a “hey! you got lipstick” friendly way, no romance intended. lol) and nope! not until the very end, and oh what a “typical Shi-Mok” response she got.
    HA HA HA HA

as for Jung Bon, I suspected him of being two-faced until the very end. He just has the kind of facial expression that says he’s not trust-worthy, for some reason.

Ikrr! I couldn’t believe how audacious she was, after everything she went through.

I was secretly hoping she would do it for real though (smack that brat on the head). Too bad she was not in a position to do so without being criticised as abusing her power.

I love how realistic and grounded YJ is. And how she combines that idealism she has with the realistic expectations she has of people. Even though she knows she cannot change much, she just wants to do something to make a small change to the world, to someone.

    8
    1

I really love how her character is written and of course acted by Bae Doo Na. I mean she has the sass and yet didn’t come off as annoying. She truly cared for people especially those who are likely to be ignored by most, yet she never come across as a boring goody two shoes. There’s so much more…I think it’s the first time I am wholly satisfied with a kdrama female character.

      6
      1

That’s the power of a good actress -able to balance the different traits of her character so well they don’t come off as 1D characters or boring.

Yup she is! I sure will miss YJ.
As for that scene, Ga young was absolutely annoying. Sure hope she listens to YJ.
