wait? who are the noble idiots? is that the people who “cant love you because you’ll be hurt if i do so we must part and never meet again for your safety”? eyeroll emoji. need to level up again quick.

    2
    1

Haha, that moment of realisation! Thank you for the laughs!
And congratulations on your brand new Noble Idiocy!

her character isn’t popular right now (but i have faith!) but her look is *on point.* LOVE the bold coloring and its contrast with her skin. Also if i could get that kick, too… #kbeauty

aaaaaah. how am i going to wait a week to see the next episode of Fight My Way????????????

finished chicago typewriter and now having to come to grips with the fact that it\’s over. such a great drama. i need more 😭

I hope Yoo Ah In does a romantic period movie some day, he´d be iconic.

Am I the only one who kinda likes YJ (Suspicious Partner)? What she did was AWFUL, but I\’d be willing to forgive her (like I did w/ EH). I want her to end up on the same team as JW BH & EH in the end.

2
0

ok how much do you love the staff spotlights?!?! 💜💜💜the questions are so great! and the whole thing makes me want to know more beanies now…so…what was YOUR first kdrama?

8
11

mine was FAITH. i was frequently stuck in bed due to a complicated pregnancy and a friend sent me her dvd of the show. i think i’d only heard of kdramas once before that—i knew literally nothing—but this friend and i like similar stuff so i was happy to try. and i was hooked AT ONCE. i googled everything at first (incl why there wasn’t more kissing 😜), and FAITH has its share of problems, but it was the perfect gateway for me 💕

    1
    0

Mine was Dae Jang Geum aka Jewel in the Palace. Next was My Name is Kim Sam Soon. And after that Goong. I don’t remember the order after that 😁😁

    1
    2

i feel like Jewel in the Palace keeps coming up in conversations lately, and now i’m starting to think maybe it’s a sign and i should add that to my queue 😊?

      1
      1

It has a very very high production value and very good story and characterizations. But at 52 episodes and with the story-telling style of last decade it might feel too draggy and angsty for those used to today’s miniseries. But I loved it then and still love it today.

        0
        1

hmm yeah 52 eps is a bit of a commitment…but maybe i’ll keep on my list if i’m ever stuck at home/in bed again for a while. thanks!

          1
          0

Mine was Secret Garden – I initially watched it for the body swapping but that didn’t happen til episode 6 but I stayed for the laughs, the OST and as it was my first kdrama I didn’t get annoyed with the tropes (which I probably would now haha).

      1
      0

secret garden! stumbled upon it through youtube (after watching two taiwanese drama’s), the ost was my jam for a long time, realized that life before kdrama was so one dimensional, it really did enrich me 🙂

    2
    1

Mine was Coffee Prince 😍😍 it’s still my all-time favorite 😊

    1
    1

I’ve been watching Korean dramas all my life but I think the earliest ones I can remember fondly are The Legend (starring Bae Yong Jun) in 2007 and Princess Hours in 2006. Back then it was hard for me to access K-dramas but now it’s so easy to get them online and I’ve been watching them for a good 10 or so years at least!

I can only watch one more show at this point, so which should I pick: Circle or Lookout?

0
4

Circle. There’s nothing like it airing right now.
Just watch the first episode, and I guarantee you’ll be hooked. It’s delicious

    2
    0

they both have their charms but the fight for justice is so vibrant, cool and entertaining in lookout..that i’ll recommend it anytime anyday

    1
    1

so i started lookout…and i do think i could love it…but the whole “child getting murdered” is really hard on me right now. i had a baby less than a year ago and its just too…intense for me right now. but is that central to the show? or its just at the beginning (ive seen 1.5 episodes now). bail now or push through?

      0
      0

Both are good. If you love sci fi, Circle is for you. I prefer Lookout more because I am not a fan of sci fi. I just started for Kim Kang Woo and Yeo Jin Goo bec both are yummies.

    1

Am I the only one who thinks we\’ll see the pervert (Jang Won Young) from the Ep 1 of Susp. Ptnrs again? Isn\’t JWY is a little too established of an actor to have that small of a role?

1
5

I’m thinking that the murder that he saw (he mentions it to the lawyers) gets him killed, and it’s HIS murder that EBH “sees” (or would have seen had she had glasses on).

    1
    1

Yeah, that’s possible. I’ve assumed they saw the same body at the same time, but maybe not.

      2
      1

I assumed that, too, at first–but then I thought it seemed like his report happened before what she “saw”—but I could be wrong. the editing in this show is too tricky for me to understand a lot of times, so i often don’t get the order of things right.

        1
        1

I’m not sure either. I thought it was a flashback, but I could be wrong.
Yeah, the editing can be confusing. In some cases, I think it’s suppose to make us unsure, but in other instances, it seems unnecessarily unclear.

          2
          1

agree with that so much. ahh yeah! possible flashback—that would make sense. plus, having only one murder seems much more likely, given that we’re already this far into the show. i think you’re right.

            2
            0

all right, the hype got me: starting tunnel now!! 😊

2
6

I am SO tempted to start Tunnel, too…! But I’m watching like 5 shows right now, I can’t add another!!

    1
    1

I know right? Im this close to starting it too but then im gonna have too many shows at hand. But again, when do i not?

    0
    1

ha that’s how i feel too! there’s just not enough time! but i’m really intrigued so im gonna give it a go.

      2
      0

The more I watch CT, the more I feel like Yoo Ah In is dramaland’s equiv to Marlon Brando (not in looks, or even acting style…just…not sure…his vibe). But that got me thinking: who else can I compare?

4
3

Song Joong-ki is definitely Cary Grant…
Lee Min-ho is (classic) Tom Cruise (before he went nuts)…

    0
    1

      Who’s Brad Pitt’s counterpart?

      1
      1

good question…not sure but maybe So Ji-sub? or…who might be better?

i’ll add Han Suk-kyu for Robert Redford, too. (at least in Romantic Teacher Dr Kim; that’s all i’ve seen him in)

        0

what\’s your One True kDrama? the one drama to rule them all—the one you\’d chose if you could only have one?

i haven\’t seen tons, but i\’m leaning toward Healer (or My Love from Another Star).

4
49

It used to be My Love from the Star for me. But now, it’s Goblin ❤

    3
    1

I love lists, so I list every kdrama I have seen and then rank them. At the moment, it is Healer. I’ve seen a number of dramas after Healer, but that still has the biggest room in my heart.

    5
    3

So neat! Haha. I should be more like you and be neat with my K-drama list, too.

      2
      0

i hope you post some of those lists from time to time! i love lists too 😁

      3
      1

I should. I can’t post my whole list of course (I’ve completed 71 dramas and 2 variety shows), but I should post my top 5 when I finish my current batch of dramas.

        1
        4

          yeah! i support this ☺️

          1
          0

Haha, I have a list too. I’ve just this week reached 150 completed dramas 😯 I’m not sure if I should be proud or concerned 😕

          3
          1

            150 in how many years?
            It’s taken me 7 years to watch 70 so I think 10 a year isn’t a bad average lol

            0
            0

(I’m reply to this message because I can’t reply to your other one). I only started in 2012, so that’s 150 dramas in 5 years, so averaging 30 a year. Eek, that’s a lot 😯, I’ve never calculated it like that before.

          1
          1

Wow, so when my friends think I’m bad, I’ll use you as an example to prove that there’s “worst” addicts. Lol 8P I wish I had time to be a worst addict.

            0
            0

Haha, feel free to use me as an example 😁 I will say that for a few of those years I really wasn’t doing much else with my life and it was pretty unhealthy. But even when I was working, I would get home and watch a few episodes each night and on the weekends catch up on anything I missed, so I’m not sure that I slowed down much 😊.
Now I’m studying again, so I have time for K-dramas AND I’m doing something with my life, yay!

          0
          1

Same. The first couple of years I started kdramas I would marathon them to the point that I would be scrambling at the last possible moment to get my homework done and I hardly ever really went out.
I definitely have had a healthier relationship with kdramas the last couple of years, although I feel like it’s getting bad again since I graduated and have “nothing else to do.”

            1
            0

I also do that… I have a mighty fine organised word doc of all my watched, currently watching, and to watch, with annotations. I’m working on a more in depth review list hehe

      2
      2

I do that, too! I give “awards” to my shows like Favorite Supporting Cast, Favorite Kiss, Favorite Couple, etc. There’s only been a handful of shows that I’ve had to give Worst awards to like Worst Boyfriend or Worst Female Protagonist.

        2
        3

Oh ok now THAT’S cool. I can think of several shows I could do that with though… hehe
I have yet to give awards to mine… I do rate them using the old DBs system though because I think it’s a good way to rate things- how much one enjoyed them vs. how good it was objectively.

          3
          1

I update my list every once in awhile because there are some shows I love in the moment but not so much looking back and vice versa. I like that rating system too, though. I might need to start doing that.

            1
            0

Yeah there are a few shows I need to re-evaluate now that they’ve stewed in the recessed of my subconscious for a while too. There are also a few I need to go back and rewatch because I can’t critically remember what I thought of them whilst watching. *MLFTS*

My list updates more regularly when I’m watching something, but it needs some editing right now… I haven’t rated some things I should’ve yet… O.o

          0
          1

I have so many I want to rewatch (I highlight them in yellow) but I have so many to see still. It becomes a losing battle of catch up…

The other thing I do is list my favorite scenes by show, episode, and time. My problem is I don’t write what the scene was so I forget which is which. I should fix that…lol

            1
            0

Oh gosh you even have your favourite scenes/episodes! I just tend to remember those, because if I LOVED an episode it sticks with me, and in my head. Like Healer’s episode 14, and Moon Lover’s Episode 11.
But I kinda wanna do that now… you’re giving me so many ideas!

          1
          1

See I’ll remember the scene or episode events, but go crazy cause I can’t remember the number of the episode. So, to keep my sanity I write it down. I don’t do so as often cause many of the stations have started posting clips on YouTube which tend to be the scenes that I love.

            1
            0

uhm. both of you are AWESOME

        2
        0

My first love was Boys over Flower (Oh, I am so ashamed) .
One true KDrama for me would be Queen In-hyun’s man or Healer.

    2
    2

hehe my first love was Faith, which is more shameful ☺️😇. QIM is soooo good too

      0
      2

I love Queen In-hyun’s Man. Javabeans and girlfriday didn’t like the ending, but I could have an hour long argument for why it made sense! lol

      1
      1

The cellphone didn’t make sense but i forgive them. OTP is on fire.

        0
        1

But, it did! I need to revisit it to remember my whole argument, but basically, when she bought the two cellphones she inscribed it in the same way the monk did to the original talisman. She just did so unintentionally.

          0
          1

yup that’s how i felt too. if a paper can be used as a talisman, a cell phone should be able to be used similarly.

            1
            0

I feel like mine would be Heirs. I’ve seen a whole bunch of dramas but that’s the one I always seem to go back to and the one that made a Kim Eun-sook fan. It’s also the closest to my reality, not the chaebol stuff but the relationships and my years in school. I’ve watched it a lot and I find something new to love about it with every re-watch.

    3
    1

yeah! that’s what i’m talking about–the one drama you can re-watch and find something new to love. perfect way to sum it up. 🙂

      1
      0

Mine would have to be Full House. Nothing beats this classic romcom in my list. Close second would be Princess Hours 😍

    3
    1

oooh two really excellent choices. I had forgotten about Full House, but yes. Classic.

      0
      0

    God… Healer…? Yeah I think Healer

    2
    0

This is SUCH a hard question but an essential one for all K-drama addicts lovers! I’ll have to really sit down and think hard on this one because it seems like every new drama I fall deeply in love with becomes my new All Time Fave. I know, I’m so bad.

Goblin has changed my life. I’m being dramatic, but I love it so much and it has made itself a special place in my heart forever. But if I HAD to choose one that ruled them all, one that I could ONLY choose if I could only choose ONE??? … I’ll get back to you on that. 😅

    2
    1

It’s a hard question. But if I could only have one, I will choose High Kick Through The Roof. Though I suspect Super Family will soon replace its place after it finished airing.

    3
    0

I’m too tired to trust my judgment I’m between Flower Boy Next Door & School 2013.

    3
    0

*sing songs* Healer. And I can give three essays on why haha. (For all the ones who don’t like it. *squints at @kaybee*)

    4
    0

This is such a hard choice because I don’t really think I have just ONE true kdrama! It depends on my mood and what/who I am missing the most. Also, I would feel like I am betraying one show over the other 😛

I have re-watched many shows like Healer, My Love from the Stars, Pinocchio, I Remember You, King of High School, I Hear your Voice, Producers, Master’s Sun, Answer Me 1997 & 1988, School 2013, even Heirs & Boys over Flowers (to see what clicked the first time and why it doesn’t click anymore)… and there are many others on the list!

    2
    0

Oh man, such a difficult decision!! But for me, it would be 2004’s “Save Your Last Dance for Me” starting Ji Sung and Eugene Kim, my all-time favourite drama that I never seem to be tired of no matter how many times I go back and watch it =)

    2
    0

The Liar and his Lover. Used to be Secret Garden. 😄

    2
    0

My number 1 will always be Coffee Prince, it was my first K-drama and is first place in my heart ❤️ But I also have a whole list of close seconds, so runners up would be a seven-way tie between healer, city hunter, reply 1997, the greatest love, Pinocchio, I remember you and the master’s sun 😁

    2
    0

I think I’d have to go with I Remember You. I haven’t rewatched the entire show yet, but I hardly ever do that. Too many unseen dramas waiting lol! One day though ^^ Anyway, it just stayed in my mind as something amazing. Psychology really fascinates me and so does ambiguity and the show did both so incredibly well. It’s also coincidentally what started my SIG addiction hehe.

Coffee Prince should probably be on the list though, since it’s what started it all – twice. Both times I got interested in Kdrama it was CP I started with and I enjoyed it equally both times. It’s such a great show and a classic.

how do you choose what shows to put on your \”my shows\” page? your top-rated? everything you\’ve seen?

2
16

I had that internal debate as well. In the end, I decided to put my favorite ones cuz just because i’ve watched something, but didnt like it or didnt finish it, I dont consider it “my show” to display. Pretty much, if I wont recommend it to a friend its not my show lol.

    5
    2

oooo i like that!!—“would i recommend it”—i think i might use that as my metric. i was having trouble knowing where to draw the line (what shows to not include, basically). but i like your rule of thumb. thanks!

      2
      1

Indeed, as you have to press “favorite” to add the shows, I only put the shows that were my favorites! 😉

      3
      1

I only put what I loved on my shows.

    2
    0

I added shows that I loved.

    1
    0

@anothernicole Good question. I was thinking about this too. I decided that I can’t really go through and find all the shows I loved…there’s too many to count. So I’m just adding shows that I’m currently watching. Hopefully, the list will grow…

    2
    1

yeah that’s my concern too–my list of “favorites” is ridiculously long… and i like the idea of having a list of what i’m currently watching… but then i also like some shows more than others so maybe i need to do my MOST favorites 😛 ahhh im so complicated right? hehe

      2
      1

Mine full of my favorite drama of all time.

    1

My “MY SHOWS” consists of shows I’ve watched and enjoyed in its entirety!

i dabble in creative writing, and i don’t know what it is, but something (maybe everything) about this show really gets me inspired, makes me want to sit down and write.

Huh, I’ve been feeling the same, but I didn’t connect it to Chicago Typewriter until just now. It makes so much sense. 😊

    1

😊😊😊 now if i could only find somewhere to write that’s as beautiful as the writing rooms in this show 😉

      0
      1

Right?! Reminds me of the ending of She Was Pretty, when the main girl got a job as a writer and the office she shared with the other female authors made me seriously jealous. 😊😊😸

        1
        0

I have the same thoughts since episode 1. Han Se Ju makes me want to write again 😍

    1
    0

The fact that this was about writers was one of the reasons I wanted to watch it in the first place. I’ve only seen maybe half an hr of it so far, but it’s already inspiring me 😀
I want to binge it so bad haha *not enough time right now but as soon as I get it you can guess what I’ll be doing*

    0

everyone has seen the pics of Moon Jae-In’s bodyguard, right? (i know that this isn’t really drama-related…but doesn’t it feel like it should be?)

8

This is the 3rd post I’ve seen on him (including mine) 😛

Been seeing posts about this bodyguard. Like too drama-esque 😍
