I would like to say that I’d go with the great story because that’s the one I would remember fondly but frankly, the one that will pull me to watch the next episode is the sizzling chemistry!
Hmmm… Hard question, since I couldn’t remember a drama that has good story but zero chemistry. Mostly it’s always the other way around. *Glancing at Do Bong-soon*
Yes, true that, always the other way around. Tried to think of good story but zero chemistry, but I ended up thinking of bad story with bad chemistry LOL. Perhaps I should rephrase it to good story but so-so chemistry.
Exactly what i wanted to say! I tried really hard to think of a show which had zero chemistry but a good story, but came out blank.. Can anyone think of such a show?? I can feel wheels turning in my head so I would really like to put it to rest!
On the other hand I could instantly think of great chemistry and bad story shows- Do Bong Soon and Warm & Cozy being at the top of the list!
Hmm…i might get slaughtered by Goblin fans if I say this (cautiously looking around), but I didn’t really get the chemistry between our Goblin and Eun Tak. But maybe it’s just me LOL.
Actually shows like Heartless City and My Beautiful Bride came to mind. But since chemistry could be interpreted in more than just romantic tension, it didn’t really fit the bill either. Maybe it really is impossible for a good show to have zero chemistry.
Oh yes Heartless City. But you know what, that kiss at the beginning was quite smoldering hot and I had to shield my eyes the first time.
Never finished watching My Beautiful Bride. But yes, there was not much chemistry between the hero and the bride. But then again, he did have a platonic chemistry with the female lead..
So yeah I think I second your opinion that it might be impossible for good shows to have zero chemistry.
Your question made me realize that all these years I’ve been watching TV show because of the leads’ chemistry. The story comes later. But, like most people, I won’t think twice to drop any show with uninteresting story and no chemistry.
URRRRHHGGGGHHHHH that question makes me look like Nam Joo-hyuk in the picture–so frustrated! I think I’m gonna have to go w/ the 1st option just bc I’ve watched dramas with the 2nd opt and it’s just not worth it. Ex: Warm and Cozy :(((

Which one would you prefer: great story but no chemistry, or sizzling chemistry but bad story?

NOOO! Don’t ask that! It’s the kind of questions that drags me:

I dropped LotBS because I didn’t feel the chemistry whatsoever. I thought I was an alien cuz everyone else seemed really okay with it :v

Gaksital also comes to mind. It has great story but I could never get onto Joo Won and Jin Se Yeon’s train.

I could watch the main couples just staring at each other with sizzling chemistry even without a good story LOL

Chemistry before story (unless the story has the potential to be mind-blowing), and acting before chemistry.

Yes agreed, great, compatible actors and actresses can create great chemistry.

I guess chemistry is essential in attracting people to watch dramas. We do watch for the chemistry (unless it is not a rom com).
