Action-thriller Lookout adds Key, Kim Seul-gi, Kim Tae-hoon

Key, Kim Seul-gi, Kim Tae-hoon

Lee Shi-young (Valid Love) and Kim Young-kwang (Man Living in My House) have both confirmed for upcoming action-thriller drama Lookout, which is about an everyman vigilante organization that seeks to bring justice to those who seem to live above the law. Each member has their own scars and stories that lead them to join, and Shinee’s Key (Drinking Solo), Kim Tae-hoon (Fantastic), and Kim Seul-gi (Second to Last Love) have all been tapped to become part of this secret group.

Lee Shi-young plays a former sharpshooter athlete who became a homicide and violent crimes detective. However, when her daughter is murdered and the killer just gets away, she joins the organization to get her revenge. Kim Young-kwang is an ambitious lawyer, a self-made man who is known for being ruthless in his dealings. But like Lee Shi-young, he’s only become that way because he nurses a childhood hurt that has driven him toward revenge his entire life. I’m happy to see Lee Shi-young back in the action genre because I think that’s where she shines best.

Key, I’ve heard, was pretty good in Drinking Solo as a lazy student who loved playing over studying. His character in Lookout is an accident-prone genius hacker, and I’m thinking he’ll provide some comedic relief for this show, which is looking like it’ll be filled with mostly dark heavy themes. Kim Tae-hoon is a prosecutor who strictly believes that criminals should be punished according to the law, until an event happens where he sees the corruptness of the justice system unfold right in front of his eyes. Last but not least, Kim Seul-gi has been offered the role of an antisocial orphan who lives with the constant guilt of outliving the tragic death of her entire family. But as she joins the organization, slowly she blooms into herself, becoming its eyes and ears with nothing beyond her surveillance skills.

Overall, the plot is a new one to dramaland, and so I’m not sure what to expect, but from the descriptions so far, I’m imagining that if Batman weren’t a one-man operation but a team effort instead, it would look a lot like this organization. And personally, I think Batman is the best superhero ever so this premise is definitely interesting to me. Lookout is slated to premiere in May after the end of Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People.

How is KYK getting lead roles while people like KSG and KTH are stuck getting supporting ones over and over again.

I keep asking myself that same question. Kang Ha Neul doesn't even get leads and he is a WAY better actor. Although I like KYK in some his shows, it still doesn't make any sense to me.

It's because Kang Ha Neul isn't a traditionally good looking man (in the opinion of the majority - I, personally, think he is great, really like his acting too), and well, Korea is crazy about standard looks.

What I don't understand is how Sung Joon is never in those interesting projects, like this one and D-Day. I don't think their acting capacities are that different. Same with Lee Soo Hyuk. They are as good looking as Kim Young Kwang and from the episodes I've watched of Valid Love, Lee Soo Hyuk is amazing on it.

Honestly Kang Ha Neul is just adorable, but I get what you're saying. It's like here in America. Actors that are good looking are getting roles they should have never been given. Out of the model five, I think KYK is the least talented when it comes to acting, yet he keeps getting lead roles behind Sung Joon. Sung Joon is a great actor and I agree that Lee Soo Hyuk did wonderful in Valid Love (Which was intense whenever he was on screen). I will watch the show though. I am interested to see how he does in a thriller. I think he was in White Christmas if I recall.

Agree with you. According to Korea standard, KHN is not some pretty boy (since for kdrama looks first, talent later) that's why it is hard for him to get lead role. I am glad he is getting chungmuro projects which is better for him.

0

I disagree about KYK being the least talented among the model five. Now you should watch this Lookout, Man Living in Our House, and White Christmas. He's the better actor than Sung-joon.

0

But then, I'm curious, is Kim Young Kwang considered "standard-pretty"? Because I found him quite... hum ordinary looking (?). He kind of look like the jerk-next-door you use to argue with back in high school. I keep forgetting his face, which is problematic if I have to follow a drama. The only drama I remember him and where I thought he was okay, was Plus Nine Boys.

I dont know how to explain it any better but based on my observation, the standard pretty boys in Korea first flower boy (face) - someone like Song Joong Ki, Kim Soo Hyun Park Bo Gum, Lee Jong Suk and Park Hyun Sik. Other standard with kind of tough/manly looks - for eg Lee Min Ho and Kim Woo Bin. Maybe KIm Young Kwang falls under second category? Haha . I also don't find him to be that good looking.

0

I meant that because he is a model and I find him good looking, haha that's why

0

Naw...I agree that he does come off as the asshole guy (Kim Young Kwang). If you think about it, I think majority of his characters have been kind of jerk or reserved. Kang Ha Neul is a theater person. He draws in folks that want great acting rather than looks. He is just so darn adorable! Has anyone seen him on Happy Together with Kim Seul Gi? It was awesome!!!

0

What?! Kang Ha Neul is not good looking? Gee, last time I checked I thought he's got this classic handsome face. And Ryu Jeon Yul is not that handsome but he got lead, thanks to Reply 1988. Both are really good actors. Maybe Kang Ha Neul is more of a dramatic actor tho he is good his face is more for melodramas, actions thrillers somethin like that... But I think he is handsome enough for the lead role given the chance. Park HyungSik in Heirs tho cute, he doesn't look like a lead actor. A bit of work here and there, good 2nd lead roles and here he is Park Hyung Sik version 3.0 for 2017. So dashing in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.

I think .... the implication is he's Western standards good-looking. He has that sort of square jaw handsome looks you see on someone like Chris Evans. In comparison Lee Soo Hyuk looks like a fox with a sharp pointed chin and apparently that's considered more attractive.

I like Kim Young Kwan well enough but I'd just place him at slightly above average in the looks department.

Sung Joon is actually on another show right now I believe. Honestly he has done several shows that were either bad or bad for him. But if I had to pick between KYK and SJ I'd pick KYK because I think his acting is reasonably good and getting better.

0

Here's a few names that ruins that "theory" -

Kim Woo-bin, Lee Jong-suk, Lee Seung-gi, Park Yoo-chun and Jang Geun-suk - all aren't as good-looking (some just aren't good-looking at all) as Kang Ha-neul, but they get lead roles.

In terms of overall looks, Kang Ha-neul is similar to
Yoo Ah-in and Yoo Seung-ho and they are leads.

Kim Seul-gi and Kang Ha-neul were on "Happy Together" and both were adorable (not to mention sparks btwn the 2).

KSG is one of the few actresses that is as adorable in real life as she is on the screen (another one would be Park Bo-young).

I went for an all out search for who you could mean with KYK. Took me about 10 minutes but I think I found the answer: Kim Young Kwang right?
Seriously...sometimes these abbreviations are somewhat inconvenient... Especially to someone like me who has a difficult time remembering all these actors names.

Its getting worse with drama titles! Esspecially if you are not watching the drama mentioned. Once i found LOBSTER, and turns out its actually LOTBS(junjihyun mermaid story), but i dont mind this one, for the cute and similar theme. Then we have WLFKBJ, MLKSS, or whatever.

Kim Tae Hoon will be perfect as leading role in this drama. sigh. But I know even he will play second / supporting lead, he will somehow steal the scene. Same goes to Kim Seul Gi. Anyway I am glad KSG gets to do full drama instead cameo/web drama. And this drama looks kind of interesting in the paper, so hopefully the execution is good too.

If this drama pair Key + Kim Seul Gi, they will be a great pairing we can look forward to!

News of Lee Sung Kyung for this drama came out earlier but I have forgotten who was the actor who's supposed to be the lead. Was it ever mentioned?

Can Lee Sung Kyung manhandle him? Maybe I haven't gotten over WFKBJ so I am still associating LSK with kicking ass.

I'm not always convinced by JCW as an actor but I like him best as a dork. He'll be excellent in comedies. It's a cute pairing for sure :D

0

I think the casted for the actor was never mentioned in any news before today. Only LSK as the female lead. But no one confirmed yet, I believe.

In term of visual will be perfect.I am also not always convinced with JCW's acting, but if he is playing some dorky role it will be great.

This is amazing! Best news after Park Seo Joon and Kim Ji Won's pairing.

Koala reported that both has signed, hopefully it's true.

Best of all, this is written by I Remember You's writer aka my top 5 favorite drama ever!

I would be thrilled, if this didn't push the prospect of a SHINee concert anywhere near me further than ever, sigh, but I'll take what I'm given: Key + Kim Seul-gi! :-) . The whole setup looks pretty exciting; I hope they do a good job. Just finished Six Flying Dragons, so I'll wait a bit to get into Moohyul 2.0, and perhaps marathon both in a row... :-)

His character seems tragic, from what I've read from online sources. And there's a loveline! Agh! I love diva Key, but manly Key's even hotter. Agh! Can't wait!

Lol. And what did you think of SFD? I wallowed in post-drama depression for weeks on end after that finished. XD

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

SFD: I think I mentioned this in OT, but I took me a while to get through the 50 episodes; it was a good watch, but I was not addicted, till about the last ten episodes when all hell broke loose :-) . Maybe I am shallower than I thought, and I needed a bit more romance to drive the story; I find conspiracy entertaining, but not necessarily addictive, especially for 40 episodes in a row.

That being said, Moo-hyul <3 ... :-) At times I think I was watching more for his sake than Bang-won's.

About manly Key, I am actually a bit curious to see how he does a loveline, because I'm not quite sure that he can pull off sexual tension (diva-ness and all that :-p ), but I think that him and Kim Seul-gi can be comedy gold; they can have a sass contest. :-)

0
10
reply

Required fields are marked *

Oddly enough, Key can act manly when the role calls for it. I saw some fancams from his stage plays (I know, isn't that supposed to banned? XD), and he can pull off the smolder and affect sexual tension with actresses opposite him. I'd think people expect him and Kim Seul Gi to be the comic relief pair, but somehow I doubt it for this work.

0
9
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think they need to learn to live with fancams; how else will we international audiences know they exist, get frustrated that we can't be there, then pay with our disposable organs when/if we're finally given the chance? :-p

And now I know what I'll be doing for my next YouTube quest; my confidence is renewed ;-)

0

Oh, yeah. Look for that bathtub makeout scene in Bonnie and Clyde. You're welcome. XD

0

Ahem, I stand corrected (blush); looks like musicals are a little less conservative than dramas :-p . Now I'm wondering whether there is a DVD version of that musical with subtitles...

Bath scenes aside, I'm really looking forward to seeing Key act. I have no worries now; if the drama is good, I'm sure Key will more than carry his weight. :-) (and before I get accused of biased fangirling, I find Minho a little awkward, and I think Onew did ok, but I'm waiting to see him act again to get a clearer idea of what he can do).

1

So I was looking for a picture of him and Dana and came across a special edited video. Holy crow, did you see that?!? And I thought the bathtub scene was hot. Zero trace of sassiness, I swear to all that is holy. O.O

0

If you mean the montage set to a certain Katy Perry song, that was the source of my blushing :-)) , but I can't help thinking that the song is a hint :-p

1

Yep, Minho's acting is a bit stiff, but his last movie's getting rave reviews. Haven't seen it yet, though. The first time I saw the tofu act was in a comedy series (Royal Villa), and I must say his comedic timing was flawless. Regarding dramatic acting, I need to see him in a role with more gravity and less waterworks, regardless of the fact that the aforesaid waterworks were the only reason why I finished DotS. Lol.

Sigh. Key. Darn it. I can't believe I haven't seen that video before tonight.

0

"More gravity, less waterworks": perfect summary! :-) I've seen a couple of scenes from Derailed; Ok, but a little bit still missing; I haven't seen Canola (or Hwarang, for that matter; I need to do my homework :-p ), but I think that Key has the most potential, simply because he is the least inhibited. I'm just in awe of his talent as an entertainer...

1

Lol. Look for Save The Green Planet. I have a feeling that Key will be drawing a lot from his role there.

Have you seen his In the Heights clips? My goodness.

0

It's official; I have a lot of viewing work to do :-) . It had never occurred to me to look for their musicals; the lack of subtitles doesn't help, but it must be done :-p . About "Save the Green Planet", after seeing those funny hats, I sure hope not :-p .

0

Oh my gosh, same! SHINee has never had any solo concert in my country but they went here (minus Taemin who had a flu) in 2009 for an event; then they went back in 2013 (minus Minho who went overseas for a variety show filming); and finally, 5HINee went here last week for a peace concert.

There were ple~~nty of shawols during the peace concert so I'd be bummed if they wouldn't have a concert here. But I guess this action-thriller (my favorite genre!) with Key can compensate the lack of SWC in this country, lol.

I love actor Key so much! He's the most natural in the group :) And if he really would have a love-line... well, I couldn't wait because Key + Dana in Bonnie and Clyde were a hoot.

Required fields are marked *

I have to agree with everyone, why are bad actors given better roles just because they are "better" looking (arguably). I keep looking for dramas or movies with Kim Seul Gi as the role and all I got so far was Splash Splash Love which was fantastic. Another supporting role for her? WTH??

And Kang Ha Neul is such a versatile and talented actor. Where are his leading roles? I agree about Lee Soo Hyuk too. He shined in Valid Love. His chemistry with Lee Shi Young was off the charts. But ever since he is pretty much playing vampires or a*holes. Again, WTH? I mean, if there's a vampire role then hey, Lee Soo Hyuk!

I wish these producers and casting directors would just cast based on talent. I mean, I'm sure they weren't expecting Jo Jin Woong to have become the "eye candy" fan favorite after Signal but BAM! There he was, outshining even Lee Jae Hoon. That's what good writing and acting will do.

Jo Jin Woong was a lead in Signal though. As equally, if not more than Lee Je Hoon. He certainly wasn't stuck playing second fiddle like KSG and KTH always are.

out of 5 models avengers, for me Woo Bin is the best when it comes to acting department, his jerk-ish look is also quite different which probably most of the girls into nowadays. In term of best looking, my choose will always be Sung Joonie, he has that kind of masculine handsome look. I mean that kind of type you used to say handsome in real life. His handsome look isn't too good to be true to be found in RL, especially his clean cut image like he was in high society. SJ also quite good in the terms of acting, so I agree with you all he only lacked of interesting project. Lee Soo Hyuk is okay, despite of his cold vampire-ish aura and those deep baritone voice, I still want him to explore his talent in various role. Kim Young Kwang is so so. I only watched him for the first time on good doctor, i didn't catch D-Day and only survive the first few episodes of man in hour house, so i can't quite picture his acting level yet. As for Jonghyunie~ I have such a huge soft spot for him. But it is because his extremely lovable personality. And it is his real personality who makes me so smitten over him (*blame it to We Got Married). He is indeed such an adorable namja. Shy at first yet so thoughtful and adorably meticulosly caring for the girl he adores. About his acting level, I think he still has to do so much improvement. You still can tell he was acting when he acted.

Kim Woo Bin: never watched him, heard he was good in Uncontrollably Fond.

Sung Joon: I like him enough, but mostly in dorky roles.

Lee Soo Hyuk: regal and glorious as Gwi in SWWTN, can't wait to see him as a carpenter in Valid Love.

Jong Hyun: of Shinee or Lee Jong Hyun? If its the latter, I heard he was good in Orange Marmalade.

Kim Young Kwan: I find him tolerable. I don't hate him but I'm not itching to watch him on screen. Who else?

KIm Woo Bin - I watched some of his parts in UF, he was good. He was OK in Heirs too, in fact his character kind of outshone Lee Min Ho in this drama.

If you haven't seen all of Model Avengers, you simply must watch White Christmas.

There's a reason it's one of my favorite dramas. Could be the writing and directing but for a first acting role for most of the cast, they sold their characters and made me feel their emotions. Good enough for me.

I love all the models, probably last place is Hong Jong Hyun but that's not his fault but his roles.

My additions to the models-actors are:
Lee Jong Suk
Ahn Jae Hyun
Nam Joo Hyuk
Jisoo

Can only think of Lee Sung Kyung for girls. Any others?

I'm glad we've moved on from the idol-actor discussions.
