Park Seo-joon, Chun Woo-hee offered new KBS drama Third-Rate My Way

We’ve got a new potential drama pairing to look forward to this spring. Lauded film actress Chun Woo-hee (The Wailing) is being courted to headline a new drama at KBS called Third-Rate My Way. And with only two more weeks of KBS’s current Monday-Tuesday drama Hwarang left to go, it’s been announced that Park Seo-joon is considering the leading role opposite her. Third-Rate My Way is about two individuals who have been living every day stuck in the daily grind. Without the connections, money, or education necessary to advance, they’ve been unable to escape their third-rate lives.

However, both have not given up their dreams to become something more. Chun Woo-hee has received the offer to play a customer service rep who works at the info desk of a department store, who has big ambitions of becoming a TV anchor. She takes the national anchor exam every year, and she has failed every time. But she’s the type who knows how to stand back up on her own two feet, and she keeps up the fighting attitude.

On the other hand, Park Seo-joon’s character is a contract worker for a corporate office, whose heyday happened in high school. He remembers those days fondly when he would walk down the classroom halls as a star athlete, decked out in his taekwondo uniform. At some point, he realizes he doesn’t care for his paper-pushing job and gathers up enough courage to try again, and he joins the UFC league to compete to become a professional fighter.

The writer attached to this project is Im Sang-choon, whose short four-episode drama Baek-hee Has Returned is one that I watched and found to be delightfully touching at times. So I’m looking forward to this new inspirational human drama Third-Rate My Way. It’s scheduled to air on KBS starting in May.

Oh my what a dream pairing! I have never actually watched Chun Woo Hee is anything but I have heard lots of praises about her, and Park Seo Joon... well he is my dream actor.

Cant wait.

Also... really offtopic.. but can anyone give a honest opinion on Hwarang? I tried watching ep1 but everytime I watch I fall asleep and Goo Ara acting face is really boring.

hwarang is very much of a light watch, too little bromance (which is what I came for) and too much focus on saving aro (which happens too many times to count) while I just want to see the growth of the boys as individuals and together as a team. The acting is good though, esp. psj and phs (but not so much go ara?)

Yes, agreed with u. Too much attention to aro. Hate to see park seo jun be too emotional because of aro. I think this is the weakness of this drama. However I keep watching it because of the bromance. Hope park Sep jun get a better role in his next project..fighting!!!!

Honestly if you like Park Seo Joon, dont watch it, its not up to his usual drama standard. Watch his previous works instead.

I love this pairing. Hope both will confirm. Its always satisfy to have movie actors back to dramaland. She is so pretty, sexy and excellent acting. She is so attractive.

I've watched 10 episodes and dropped it, mainly because of Go Ah RA's acting and I don't like her pairing with PSJ, also as @eli said Ah Ra's always end up kidnapped and needs saving it's a childish plot.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one enjoying the drama regardless of its flaws. I like pretty much everything about the show except the romance, it kind of seems forced a little, but I doesn't really bother me. A guilty pleasure show, sort of. I'm really thrilled to see Park Seo-Joon in a Sageuk. I like how he looks in these ancient garbs.

Love this drama but acknowledge that a lot of people are going to dislike it. I've watched PSJ in other stuff before, but he never stood out to me until this drama. For some reason, the bad hair and uneven characterization in Hwarang made him really attractive to me. Like I started noticing how cute his smile is. Aro is like I like it when you smile and I'm like "holy moly! That's a cute smile!" i also think the historical garb makes him look more muscular?

I'm excited for this new role. And Chun Woo Hee ... never watched her in anything but heard good things about her. I hope this role will do justice to her acting!

Yes. I love this pairing. Honestly i dont really following Hwarang because like you said, I cannot stand with Go Ara's acting and facial expression. Did she was better in her past projects? I remember watched Reply 94 for one or two episodes, but dropped mainly because of her.

I feel a bit unfair for PSJ on Hwarang, especially that he has to be overshadowed by second male lead mostly because the second male lead has better chemistry with female lead and PSJ's character is not developed well. Hopefully this drama will do some justice for him (and please no more unnecessary love triangle) . He is a good actor.

Didn't like Go Ara's acting too, her expressions very weird. PSJ should take a rest, seems like seeing the same faces on dramas.

You know, i started watching Hwarang for Park Hyunsik and so didn't really pay much attention to Park Seo Joon but knowing he is the lead I just kind of accepted it. But as I watched episode after episode I just started to really enjoy Park Seo Joon and his character SunWoo! He can be funny, awkward, wise, clumsy....sometimes he is so bad I just laugh out loud ..But I actually feel his character is a lot more demanding as he has all these facets to him. Plus all the beating he's been getting. I really like Park Hyunsik too and he is just amazing as an actor...he doesn't even need to say anything as his physical presence already conveys so much... I think I equally enjoy both of them as they are so charismatic in their own way...but i like that Park Seo Joon is not afraid of getting dirty and really gets into his rough around the edges character ...i kind of wish Park Hyunsik wasn't so polished...how about a little bruise on his perfect pearly skin?! Regarding chemistry with Go Ara i dont know..i have no issues with her with either one...I actually like her with SunWoo because they are so devoted to each other...maybe I'm just easy to please. I was thinking I should rewatch the first episodes and pay more attention to Park Seo Joon! Things look a lot different once you're invested!

I don't get why a movie actor/actress is better than a TV actor/actress. My assessment of an actor's acting ability is based more on how he blends into his character and connects with the audience, rather than the medium: movie, TV or stage.

It's harder to make it in Chungmuro and I just happen to watch more movies than dramas.
I've seen some of his dramas. I don't know what to think of his acting yet. I clicked with some actors and I don't with some.
Take it as a personal opinion. It's easier to see talents when it's being utilized by filmmakers at least for me.

Some actors are better in films and some are better in dramas and some rocks both. Hi Han Sukkyu!

0

Oh no, my comment doesn't mean I prefer PSJ's acting. As far as I can recall, The Beauty Inside is the only time I saw him, and with that short appearance, I can't say anything about his acting.
It's just that you say CWH is better partly because she is a movie actress shows some kinda prejudice to me. But well, let's just say to each his own and leave it at that.
I love Han Suk Kyu, too. The man rocks!

0

I think its just a movie actor is guarantee quality than a drama actor.

0

@Chi why though? the way i see it, tv drama actors have to act for a longer period of time and keep a constant characterization, under harsh conditions (in the case of live shoots). they also have to grab and hold viewers' attention for that amount of time to be considered successful

idk i feel like a 2 hours movie should be a walk in the park for a seasoned drama actor lol

0

@siesta that's the difference between movie and drama. Movie actors have around 2 hours to prove their acting ability (not to mention limited screentime in case manh main characters) while in drama, depends on how many episodes, actors have longer time to show and prove their acting ability.

I have so much respects for chungmuro actors especially the veteran ones and I love to see rising chungmuro actors in 20s come to small screen as well. But I also at the same time dont believe that movie actors are the only great ones. We have many great actors who only do drama or rarely do movies As much as I respect and love chungmuro actors, i do love drama actors. The biggest weakness in kdrama is, the tendency to put the commercial as the main thing, hence we always see the popular faces with very limited acting skill headlining the drama. The talented ones merely get the opportunities mostly on supporting, or side lining chafacters. If drama productio make these talented ones headlining the drama, probably there will be not so much gap in term of acting skill between chungmuro and drama actors.

If you make it in movie, you must be very good at acting. Its hard to sell few millions tickets for a movie. People actually pay money to see a movie so the movie has to be really good to have big audience. In movie there are only few actors in one project so the role of actors are very important. There is no short cut or magic to a successful movie.

In drama its more by luck. No one can really answer why one drama has higher rating than others. High rating doesnt equal quality. Rating = popularity. High rate drama doesnt mean the actors are good.

Movie actors are not better than drama actors. But once the actors make name for himself in movie, he stays there forever. The movie could sell few tickets or millions tickets dont matter much. Drama actor has to rely on rating, he could be famous one day then be forget if his next projects have low rating.

So movie actor = quality, drama actor = popularity.

There are many good actors in drama but couldnt find a right project to be popular but in movie if you are good, you can move from one movie to the next with easy.

If you want to make it in movie you need to have award + millions selling tickets. If you want to make it in drama, it could happen overnight. There is no bad actor can sell million movie tickets but not so great acting still can have very high rate drama.

I am not familiar with the actress but have heard good things about her. As for PSJ, he is one of the actors I like. I am not familiar with the writer, so I hope that he/she is good. The premise sounds like it could be a slice-of-life drama/romance, but this also makes me worry that it might be boring. However I believe that the execution is what will determine if this drama turns out good or not. I hope that whatever drama PSJ picks next will be good.

Yes, the show has its issues..but Park Seo Joon is great there! He has slowly but surely grown on me! I listen to his version of Our Tears on repeat on my drive to work..,such a soothing voice! Didn't care for him much at first as I had eyes only for Park Hyunsik...but now he's been added to my list of loves! And we get a double dose of each this year! Thank you thank you thank you!

Considering the plot-line, Park Seo-Joon, in my honest opinion, should seize the opportunity of accepting the role willingly, if the script manages to maintain a vigorous stance. Due to the fact that his previous roles exemplified in the dramas he has thus far selected, they share the same aura as the protagonist. Assessing his acting, he has the capabilities to transform upon an emotional protagonist; however, Park Seo-Joon chooses projects lacking realism. Please be aware that this is an opinion based on the delineation of his past dramas.

I think the premise sounds kind of similar to Weightlifting Fairy, without the comedy that is. It would definitely be an interesting watch if the characters are to be fleshed out. I am a fan of slice-of-life plots, especially if they are executed with good directing and acting... like Misaeng, one my top favorite. Fingers crossed! Hoping this would deliver the same bitter-sweet underdog vibe we got from Misaeng.

Some people probably watching more of kmovies than drama, so he/she can be a bit more skeptical on drama's castings especially if the movie actor also casted. I am watching both although i am watching more Kdrama.

For me, actors are actors no matter the media they use for acting. Movie, drama or even musical, they should show the best of them on acting. I don't care about Chungmuro actors or whatever it is. Because many of talented drama actors don't get chance to act in movies or vice versa. If they're talented, people will recognize and remember them easily.
