Missing 9: Episode 8

We finally get some answers regarding the rift between the castaways that started when they lost their friend. Of course, the answers reveal more than the survivors bargained for as they learn that their friend Jae-hyun’s death wasn’t as straightforward as they thought. And in the present, Bong-hee faces another new threat that could have everyone turning against her.

EPISODE 8 RECAP

Tae-young leads Bong-hee into the press conference, where they both hear Tae-ho say that Joon-oh tried to kill everyone on the island. Bong-hee starts forward to refute his lies, but Tae-young stops her, and Chairwoman Jo sends Investigator Oh over to see what’s happening.

Tae-ho really plays his “grief” to the hilt for his audience, crying and apologizing for not saving his friends. Investigator Oh advises Bong-hee not to draw attention to herself, so she can only watch helplessly as Tae-ho comes out looking like a hero.

Bong-hee is furious, and she asks if this is why Investigator Oh told her not to come here today. She demands to see Tae-ho and Chairwoman Jo, but Investigator Oh tells her to wake up and realize that Tae-ho came back, and Joon-oh is dead.

As Tae-ho’s manager starts to drive him home in his van, Bong-hee pops up in front of the vehicle, kicking it and demanding that he come out. He steps out and she punches him right in the face, growling that everyone will soon see what a liar he is. Tae-ho takes notice of the CCTV cameras and stays calm, saying that they’re not on the deserted island anymore. And besides, nobody will believe her.

Bong-hee yells that Joon-oh is alive, but she stalls uncertainly when Tae-ho says that he saw Joon-oh dead. He steps close and starts, “Joon-oh actually…” but then grins and says never mind. He leaves, and Tae-young approaches Bong-hee, having seen the entire confrontation.

He asks her softly if she’s someone he can trust. Bong-hee pleads with him to trust her now, and swears that it wasn’t Joon-oh who killed So-hee — it was Tae-ho.

We head back to the island, where the whole group is quiet and preoccupied after Tae-ho’s attack on the reporter, Ki-won. They have Tae-ho tied to a pole outside, where Joon-oh keeps a close watch on him. Ji-ah asks what he plans to do with Tae-ho, but Joon-oh says he’ll decide after Ki-won wakes up and they hear what really happened.

Joon-oh and Tae-ho are still sitting there after dark, watching each other warily, and Bong-hee sits with Joon-oh and brings him some food. Joon-oh says that these aren’t the people he used to know, and not just Tae-ho. He wonders sadly if they changed after the crash, or if he just never really knew them.

In the morning, Joon-oh is still watching Tae-ho like a hawk. Bong-hee brings Joon-oh some breakfast, sees him nodding off, and sits next to him to gently tilt his head onto her shoulder. He nuzzles in close for a moment, but he’s nearly instantly startled awake by Ki-joon telling him that Ki-won woke up.

Joon-oh speaks with him in private, and Ki-won says that he came to help him. He reveals to Joon-oh that their old songwriter and friend, Jae-hyun, didn’t really kill himself — he was murdered. He asks if Joon-oh would believe that someone else went to Jae-hyun’s house after Joon-oh left, the night he and Joon-oh argued and Jae-hyun died.

Joon-oh asks how Ki-won could know this when the police didn’t, but Ki-won says that he only needs to know that Jae-hyun and So-hee’s murders are related. He says it’s why Tae-ho tried to kill him yesterday. Around the corner, Ho-hang overhears and reels in horror.

With Joon-oh away and not staring at him, Tae-ho takes a chance and starts to kick a sharp piece of broken brick closer to himself. He asks Ji-ah for a drink of water when she passes with the bottle, so she dumps the entire bottle over his head. HA.

Stunned at Ki-won’s revelation, Joon-oh goes to Tae-ho and asks if he’s hiding anything. Tae-ho refuses to answer, so Joon-oh says he’ll find out himself. He goes out on his own, leaving everyone at camp. Meanwhile, Tae-ho has gotten his hands on that broken brick and begins to saw at the cloth tying him down.

In the present, CEO Jang grumbles angrily when Tae-young insists on meeting with him immediately. He slaps on a friendly face, but Tae-young is in no mood for niceties, and he refuses CEO Jang’s offer of dinner. He says he wants to meet with Tae-ho, but CEO Jang claims that Tae-ho wasn’t feeling well and went home.

Tae-young says that he knows they’re just avoiding him, and tells CEO Jang to pick up when he calls again. CEO Jang is rattled and annoyed, and Tae-young catches him off guard when he asks why CEO Jang hid Tae-ho in that Chinese hospital. He doesn’t wait for an answer, the question itself having made his point.

Not that Tae-young needed proof of CEO Jang’s lie, but he runs into Tae-ho as he’s leaving the Legend Entertainment building. He’s so drunk that his manager can’t control him, and Tae-ho slurs that he’s acting just like So-hee did, then ends up flat on his back on the pavement.

Tae-young approaches the manager and slips his business card into the man’s shirt pocket. He tells him to give it to Tae-ho with a message that So-hee’s brother wants to talk to him, and that he’ll know what it’s about.

The manager takes Tae-ho and the business card up to CEO Jang’s office, and CEO Jang yells at Tae-ho for not being careful. Tae-ho ignores him, until a call informing CEO Jang that another survivor has been found has Tae-ho snapping wide awake and sober.

Chairwoman Jo and Investigator Oh go to the airport to meet with the latest survivor. Chairwoman Jo is hoping he can give a statement corroborating either Tae-ho or Bong-hee’s stories, but Investigator Oh tells her that he’s been too unstable to question.

The latest castaway to come home is Ho-hang, and he looks severely traumatized. He’s twitchy and shies away from everyone, clearly no longer quite sane. They take him to the facility where they’ve been questioning Bong-hee, and he seems terrified that someone might find out he’s back.

Chairwoman Jo is furious that Ho-hang doesn’t appear to be a reliable witness, so she tells Investigator Oh that they’ll wait and see if he recovers. Investigator Oh asks what will happen if Ho-hang contradicts Tae-ho’s statement, and she says they’ll just have to make sure that doesn’t happen.

But that night, when Bong-hee talks to Tae-young, she’s positive Ho-hang will tell the same story she’s been telling and testify in her favor.

On the island, Ho-hang finally takes out the braids So-hee put into his hair, needing the wires she tied it with to help repair the radio Ki-won found. As he works, he tells CEO Hwang that he heard Jae-hyun’s death may not have been a suicide, and that he thinks Joon-oh went to Ki-won’s old camp to look for clues.

Later, when he’s alone, Ho-hang is suddenly grabbed from behind by Tae-ho, who growls in his ear and asks where Joon-oh went.

As Joon-oh hikes to Ki-won’s camp, ghosts of the past begin to haunt his thoughts. He remembers how ex-fans would throw eggs at him after Jae-hyun’s death, and how everyone at Legend Entertainment would look at him with censure in their eyes. Their ugly words echo in his mind, and he has a difficult time focusing on the path ahead of him.

He thinks back to a time when he gave Jae-hyun the Artist of the Year award he was given for a song that Jae-hyun wrote, arguing that it was rightfully his. They’d gone to the roof and drunk alcohol, and Jae-hyun had said he wanted to make his own debut someday. Joon-oh had urged him to do it, though he’d asked him to wait until he sorted his own situation out first.

CEO Hwang had been firmly against the idea when Joon-oh brought it up to him, and he’d told Joon-oh to convince Jae-hyun not to quit. Though Joon-oh argued that it was wrong to hold back such a talent, CEO Hwang ordered him to stop Jae-hyun no matter what.

Joon-oh had gone to Jae-hyun’s home and found Jae-hyun packing, preparing to quit altogether. Joon-oh had asked him to trust him and just wait, saying that quitting now would be a terrible waste, but Jae-hyun had argued that he’d already waited seven years.

Hurt, he’d accused Joon-oh of pretending to care about him but really only caring about Dreamers. Apparently, Tae-ho was planning to go solo, and Joon-oh was at the end of his rope with worry about how to keep Dreamers going. Jae-hyun had said it was too hard for him, so hard that he felt like dying. Joon-oh had snapped and yelled at him to die then, if he was just going to quit so easily.

Joon-oh had left angry, but he’d gotten a couple of beers and gone to the roof, then called Jae-hyun to meet him. Jae-hyun hadn’t answered, and when he finally left, he’d been joined by a worried Yeol. Everyone began arriving in rapid succession, saying that Jae-hyun wanted to talk to them. Tae-ho had arrived last, and they’d all headed inside.

But before they got to the building, Jae-hyun had fallen from the roof and landed on a nearby car, dead.

Joon-oh finally makes it to Ki-won’s old camp after dark and goes through the personal things he left behind. He finds a plastic bag hidden inside an airplane seat, and inside are some articles about Jae-hyun’s death, along with CCTV photos of the door to his building.

Joon-oh sees himself entering and leaving the building that night, just as he expects. But a second set of shots show Tae-ho also going inside, about half an hour after Joon-oh had left.

He’s so absorbed in looking at the photos that the first clue Joon-oh has that Tae-ho is nearby is the hard blow to his head with a rock. Joon-oh turns to look at Tae-ho in disbelief, then slumps over unconscious, blood pouring from his head.

In an attempt to help Ho-hang recover, Investigator Oh takes him to see CEO Hwang in the hospital. The boss is still in a coma, and Ho-hang wails and cries over him, begging him to wake up. The plan seems to have backfired, and Ho-hang is so distraught that Investigator Oh has to physically drag him from CEO Hwang’s bedside.

On the island, Tae-ho drags Joon-oh to a cliff overlooking the sea and looks at the CCTV photos of himself going into Jae-hyun’s building. He throws the photos and articles into the ocean as Joon-oh wakes up behind him.

He asks why Tae-ho did it, and Tae-ho tells him that it’s too hard for him now. He grabs Joon-oh’s throat and starts to throttle him, gasping that he hopes Joon-oh is the last one.

We see his last conversation with Jae-hyun, in which he’d gotten so angry at the songwriter’s plan to leave that he’d punched him. Jae-hyun had grabbed onto him, and Tae-ho had shoved him away roughly, slamming his head into a metal briefcase. He’d been horrified by all the blood and started to call an ambulance, but the next thing we see, Tae-ho had gotten into a cab and told the driver to drive around for a bit.

As he’s being strangled, Joon-oh gasps, “Why did you kill him?!” Tae-ho says it makes no difference, since Jae-hyun is dead all the same, and he continues to choke Joon-oh while he frantically fights for his life.

In the present, Tae-young takes Bong-hee to see Chairwoman Jo. She insists on being there while Ho-hang is questioned, and asks Chairwoman Jo to tell the public that Joon-oh is innocent once they hear his statement. Chairwoman Jo agrees to let her stay, but as for Ho-hang’s statement, she says they’ll wait and see.

Ho-hang is so nervous that he nearly hurls in Investigator Oh’s car, so they pull over to let him use a restroom. Investigator Oh goes outside when his car alarm starts going off, and a knock on the stall door annoys Ho-hang so much he comes out to see who it is. Someone in a hoodie grabs him and drives him away in another car, gagged and bound.

The car stops, and Tae-ho climbs in next to Ho-hang, while CEO Jang gets in the front seat. Tae-ho rips off Ho-hang’s gag and Ho-hang starts screaming, but Tae-ho stays calm and says it’s good to see him alive.

On the island, Ki-joon and Bong-hee go looking for Tae-ho and Joon-oh. Joon-oh has managed to break Tae-ho’s hold on his throat, and the two fight on the cliff until Tae-ho slams into Joon-oh and they both go tumbling over the edge. Bong-hee hears Tae-ho’s bellow of rage and heads toward the sound.

Somehow, Joon-oh manages to grab the ledge with one hand and Tae-ho’s hand with the other. Joon-oh gasps for Tae-ho to say why he should save him, but Tae-ho tells him to let him go. He starts to loosen his grip on Joon-oh’s hand, and Joon-oh screams that he should live. Tae-ho says calmly, “You never listen,” before letting go of Joon-oh’s hand and plummeting to the rocks below.

Bong-hee follows Investigator Oh out to look for Ho-hang, but they don’t have far to go — Tae-ho dropped him off at the gate to the building. Ho-hang is eerily calm, and he tells Bong-hee that he met up with a friend. Investigator Oh doesn’t buy his story, but Ho-hang goes inside to give his statement without elaborating.

Bong-hee asks if everything is okay, and Ho-hang evasively says that he’s fine. He testifies that So-hee’s death was a homicide, and when Investigator Oh asks who killed her, he says that everyone already knows.

He says that Tae-ho’s statement was correct, that Joon-oh killed So-hee. Bong-hee jumps up and runs into the room to ask why he’s lying, but Ho-hang continues that Joon-oh had an accomplice. We see that Tae-ho had told him to say that he saw Joon-oh kill So-hee, and Ho-hang had been too terrified of him to speak the truth.

When Bong-hee enters the room, Ho-hang says that she was Joon-oh’s accomplice. She’s pulled from the room by the guards and begs Investigator Oh to believe that she’s innocent.

Bong-hee finds Joon-oh on the cliff, just as he pulls himself up and sinks to his knees in grief. She holds him while he screams and cries, and eventually, they get up and walk back towards camp. Joon-oh is stunned and silent, and Bong-hee takes his hand — the same hand that let go of Tae-ho.

She says she gets scared at night, and the contact snaps Joon-oh from his daze. When Joon-oh asks if he should go back, looking at Bong-hee with desperate, pleading eyes, she says they’re all waiting for him, because it’s where he belongs.

They’re all relieved to see Joon-oh safe, and Ho-hang even cries. CEO Hwang tells Joon-oh that he already knows the truth of Jae-hyun’s death from Ki-won. He even apologizes for putting pressure on Joon-oh to convince Jae-hyun not to quit, understanding now that it was his job as CEO.

Joon-oh cries and tells CEO Hwang that he killed Tae-ho. CEO Hwang muses that the news doesn’t even upset him somehow, and Joon-oh bows his head in shame. CEO Hwang tells him not to blame himself, because he didn’t do it on purpose.

The others join them, and Ji-ah tells Joon-oh that nobody thinks Tae-ho’s death is his fault. Her lip wobbles and she apologizes, saying that she’s just sorry she’s never apologized to him.

They all agree that what’s important is that Joon-oh came back safe, and Ki-joon adds that Tae-ho didn’t just blame him for Jae-hyun’s death. He says that he ruined his life, so they should reveal who the killer was, and who the true victims were.

Joon-oh agrees that they do have to reveal the truth, including that he killed Tae-ho. He says, “When we go back, if we go back, please help me so I can pay for what I did. All of you shouldn’t do anything for me. Let’s remember what happened, what we saw, and what we heard here. Let’s remember it as it is.”

On a beach nearby, Tae-ho lies in the sand, covered in blood. The sound of his breathing can be heard, labored but steady.

Ki-joon wakes the next morning and hears a noise, and he rushes over to the repaired radio. It’s giving off static, and he wakes everyone with his cries that it’s working.

He, CEO Hwang, and Ho-hang go to sit on a rock outcropping overlooking the ocean, the now-silent radio at their feet. Ki-joon calmly announces that he sees a ship, and Ho-hang agrees that a ship would be pretty cool. CEO Hwang realizes that not only is the ship real, but it’s turning to head their way. The three jump up and celebrate — they’re rescued!

COMMENTS

I can’t even explain why exactly, but seeing Joon-oh refuse to leave Tae-ho outside, alone and tied up, just broke my heart. He still feels responsible for him as his band leader and hyung, even after their group disbanded. Tae-ho treated him hatefully for years, and he even killed Yeol and So-hee on the island. You can just see the sorrow and disappointment in Joon-oh’s eyes every time he looks at Tae-ho, and you know he’s remembering that friendly, funny guy he used to know before his mind snapped. I can’t imagine being in Joon-oh’s place, looking at someone I thought I knew as a warm, talented person, but who has now become a psychotic killer. And the fact that he’s still taking care of Tae-ho to the extent he’s able, even if all he can do is not leave him to sleep outside alone, just speaks volumes about the kind of man Joon-oh is.

I just knew there had to be more going on between Tae-ho and Ki-won than just the fact that Ki-won saw So-hee and Jae-hyun dating. Ki-won stiffened the instant he saw that Tae-ho had survived the crash, and he was aggressive with Tae-ho right off the bat. I’m surprised that people keep antagonizing Tae-ho, knowing that he’s already killed two people and that they’re on an island with nothing and nobody to protect them. But I’m glad we finally got the full truth of what happened the night of Jae-hyun’s death, because it tells us a lot about Tae-ho and whether it was the island that made him homicidal. Filling in the blanks, I’m guessing that it was Tae-ho who contacted everyone to meet, and somehow arranged for Jae-hyun’s body to fall from that roof where everyone would see and assume suicide. The death was obviously an accident, but Tae-ho’s covering it up as a suicide definitely inspired him when it was time to get rid of So-hee. So while he may not have killed on purpose until the island, it’s not the first time Tae-ho ended someone’s life when they made him angry.

So I don’t think Tae-ho intended to kill Jae-hyun that night, but I do think it shows that that volatile, violent side of him has always been there. And instead of calling for help and explaining that it was an accident, he doubled down and staged a supposed suicide to hide his guilt (and it explains why the blood was on the wrong side of Jae-hyun’s face, which always bothered me). It’s exactly what happened with Yeol — Tae-ho let his temper flare out of control, got someone killed, and rather than take the blame for the accident, he hid his guilt. And now that he’s gotten a taste of real killing, it really does feel as though he’s enjoying it when he wraps his hands around someone’s throat.

It’s an interesting contrast to Joon-oh, who initially seemed to be the most self-absorbed of the three ex-Dreamers. But now that we’ve seen the entire situation, it’s obvious that he wasn’t really telling Jae-hyun to die — he was angry that Jae-hyun was throwing his future away so easily, and with such bad timing for those who depended on him. Yes, he said a terrible thing, but it wasn’t terrible enough to make Jae-hyun end his own life. And Joon-oh is a man who takes his leadership status seriously — he accepts full responsibility when he thinks he’s killed Tae-ho, and it’s clearly not just lip service. The way he sobbed on Bong-hee’s shoulder shows that her truly believed he was responsible, instead of the obvious proof that it was pure self defense.

Then he immediately goes to the group and tells them what happened without sugarcoating it or downplaying his role in the accident, and tells them that if they’re rescued, he wants them all to tell the truth. He’s not scared to face the consequences of his actions (and we also saw this in the past when everyone blamed him for Jae-hyun’s death, and he never tried to defend himself), and even urges the others to be honest even if he ends up punished. More and more, Joon-oh is showing himself to be a deeply decent man, and I won’t be surprised if we find out that the supposed drunk-driving incident that broke up Dreamers was another instance of him taking the blame for something that was technically someone else’s blunder.

For Lee Yeol's character, in the beginning, the articles always said how he did a big mistake in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if Joonoh took the blame for the DUI and that's probably the reason why Lee Yeol was always so loyal when it comes to Joonoh.

This show is killing me. I want more survivors who will actually fight Taeoh

As to why they let Yeol's body float in the water to be lost forever when they can bury him right there in the island. So when and if they get to be rescued then they can dig them up and be given a proper burial for his family. Same with So Hee, why let her float, too? To be dramatic, in a raft with flowers in her hair and all. Oh, yeah, they don't hv a shovel, haha. They can pile rocks on her, right?
So, they made her float so her body can be discovered in China, still in good condition, considering the time that passed. Ok, whatever!

For Yeol remember tae ho push his body to the sea, by the time the group regained power, yeol's body is nowhere to be seen.

I think the burial thing they did on the sea is an old tradition, they did have hope that somebody will rescue them but they also think help won't come so they are hoping the body will end up somewhere where she can be discovered.

It's too ridiculous. They found So Hee 's body after Bong Hee, proximately over 4 months. The body in good shapes, not even decomposed neither eaten by the fishes or bitten by the birds or hawks. This is their production mistake.

Yes in one of the first articles

''Chanyeol will be playing Lee Yeol, the cute, playboy drummer who serves as the face of an idol band and is kind to all women. However, a drunk driving incident in the past wherein someone else took the fall has left him feeling as though he has a debt to pay.''
http://www.dramabeans.com/2016/09/missing-9-courts-jung-kyung-ho-as-male-lead-releases-character-descriptions/

That's why I think Joonoh covered for Yeol.
When Joonoh was leaving the police station he said 'I did drink, but I did not drive under the influence of alcohol'

We'll see~ I hope we get some answers for that.

No you shouldn't. The only decent thing about this show is Joon Ho. This show has no originality, poorly developed characters, obvious plot twists, and gaping plot holes. It's honestly an awful drama, but terribly addictive. You'll keep on wanting to watch it KNOWING that it is terrible quality. If you're gonna spend your precious time watching a kdrama pick one that is actually worth your time. The only beneficial thing that has come out of this show is Joonho's story. Unfortunately his story isn't enough to watch the show due to the overwhelming negatives.

I agree with all the negatives. there's stuff wrong with continuity almost every minute. Wait - his hands were all bloody but now they're not?? But I also agree it's addictive and the whole thing is worth it for Joon Ho. In a sense it reminds me of Moorim School which was so unbelievably bad but sort of interesting until it wasn't. I dropped it halfway through. Missing 9 has a more compelling story, at least, so I will stay to the end just to see resolution to the love story.

I think it's best you watch it and make that decision on your own. You'll never know whether you like it until you actually watch it.
You may or may not enjoy it. If you're looking for something different and a bit of a rollercoaster ride, it may surprise you.

I've seen a lot worse and far more cliche dramas than this. Maybe I've never seen a K drama quite like this that I like it so much.

I have the same mind too. Because of the lousy editions and illogical storylines but curiosity to know what they going to deliver to us the ending parts? Hardly to watch a good suspense Korean dramas, so I give a shot regardless their newbie actings and illogical parts.

Actually i think his chances of him being alive is greatly increased after every ep.. his body didnt appear until now.. so until that happens, if not i would still hope for him to be alive

(idk the writer or his previous works, but his style in this drama is never to take everything on face value..)

so who knows yeol might have survived somehow.. and many were saying in ep1 joon-oh claim on he did drink but didnt drive and speculating that he was actually taking responsibility and the blame for yeol.. if its really true and yeol is the one, then some form of justice got to be served/corrected at the end for this plot to sum up.. so im still hoping yeol survived and he become brave enough to face his actions) and we can conclude the drama with joon-oh being the top superstar once again..

I agree that the "relief" I would have felt that TH was FINALLY stopped from killing another soul did not happen.
All I could think was, I wonder when he's going to show up again and start killing. Which means the drama of the shore scene and hearing him breathe at the end was also non-existent.

We all know the basic kdrama formula:

cliff + water + fall = miraculous recovery

But until now I didn't know that it also applied to Koreans falling into Chinese water.

And they never even check for a body?! Has none of them ever even seen a kdrama?

If Chinese people can survive when falling into Chinese waters, I don't see why Korean falling into Chinese waters can't do the same.
The sea, unlike people, doesn't discriminate.

:P

Well, if the SK authorities did next to nothing in terms of a search and rescue, one cannot expect an assortment of largely entertainers who are already mentally and physically drained burdened by emotional baggage to be too detailed.

North Korean should use this method to escape to China because they are nearer to China. Lol!

For a show that's so dark, violent and reeking of death, I find the pairing of JO and BH so much compelling than your run-of-the-mill romance drama. Even the gestures that are stock cliches in K drama like the head rest feels meaningful and not just there to create a "moment". Or the hand-holding which is about comfort, warmth and safety. I adore the way BH is JO's rock, his refuge in and amongst all the trouble surrounds them.
And now even with BH and TH back in Seoul, she's still standing up for JO despite being muffled by the powers-that-be.

I like the fact that Ho Hang is a consistent character. We saw him being physically sick after witnessing Soo Hee's murder and after being threatened by Tae Ho, so it's clear he is not very strong mentally. The fact that after his return he is even worse off is in line with his psychological condition. I also think he looks slimmer now, which makes sense for a person who has been a castaway for 4 months.
Other than this, I just can't comprehend how the survivors didn't learn yet to be more careful near Tae Ho. Also, I don't understand why Bong Hee doesn't mention any more what Soo Hee told her, about seeing Tae Ho killing the pilot. She could say: "Tae Ho probably attacked the reporter because the reporter had some info about him, just as he attacked Soo Hee because she knew something about him."
Also, didn't the police investigate Jae Hyun's suicide and didn't they notice the wound on the left side of the head, while he landed on the right? In my country, a businessman committed suicide by jumping from a building and the police made simulations with a fake body having the same weight, so as to see if it was plausible that, by falling from that height, it landed in that specific position.
Right now I am convinced that I know the real cause of the plane crash: it fell through the holes in the plot...

" I know the real cause of the plane crash; it fell through the holes in the plot." That was a brilliant comment. Died laughing at it. I agree with you completely. The plane crash itself was super unrealistic especially since none of them had seat belts except for the pilot and co-pilot. They mostly would have died on impact. IF not that then defiantly would have some serious injuries, not like the ones we saw. I love this drama nonetheless because I don't remember any Kdrama similar to this. It's like peeling an onion layer by layer. The plot, although with some big holes, is so riveting. I caught up in 2 days. For sure I'm going to continue this awesome fest.

I know! That is forensics 101 in an autopsy - I would assume all suicides would have to be considered suspicious and would warrant one. I have seen a few dramas where law enforcement is stymied by the victim's family. You know where they don't allow the autopsy because they don't want to kill them twice. I think the family has some say on religious grounds, but not for a suicide!

Anyways, about the police investigation. I don't think they are that stupid but maybe someone covered it? You know, the same way the vice-president is covering for Tae Ho now. Corruption is everywhere.
But yes, it's startling that no one else noticed his head was hurt on the wrong side, especially So Hee. But again, she just witnessed the death of her secret boyfriend, so illogical reactions are to be expected.
At least that reporter noticed something was off.

The president did mention the girlgroup members, i forgot if he said their names.. i think its before he confronted the manager and ji ah acting too close~ it did seem like only the president was more attached to the girlgroup, while the others didnt really know them well.

So im guessing they just thought everybody else died, thats what happened and what they said everytime they encountered a new survivor too..

It's comment like this "[that irrelevant bitchy girl]" that drive kdrama actors and actresses to great extremes so audiences can like them. Not everyone is likable in a drama but come on: irrelvant, bitchy? That's just too much! I'm surprised I'm the only one calling you out on this. Watching this drama has taught me what reactions from audiences like us can do to drive movie stars to depression and even worse, suicide. If you were the one casted in that role, how would you feel when an audience refers to you as : "that one girl [that irrelevant bitchy girl] from episode one". Please watch what you say!

Ugh this episode was excruciating. So bleak.

Ho Hang is such a weak character. I felt both frustration and sadness for him. I wish he could have hid himself away from Tae Ho. I hate that TH has threatened him so many times and still now in the present! I get that he is traumatized. The dang special investigative unit should put extreme measures in place in protecting the identity and safety of the survivors. They have a murderer to deal with and not all the facts/evidence.

But of course, no one would find it weird that president Hwang was hurt by a beam that fell exactly on his side of the car or that Mr. Tae was kidnapped...
And if so, they are probably on Tae Ho's side anyways.
My only hope is prosecutor Yoon. Hoping he will put everything together and reveal the truth!

Every week, a new survivor turns up...at this rate, all missing 8 (minus So hee) will turn up intact at the end of the drama. Yeol lovers, take heart!

The story seems to be descending into a serial killer on a rampage plot. It's ludicrous that someone could survive a fall from a cliff. People in this story are remarkably resilient.

I didn't understand the part Jae hyun fell off the building...I thought Tae ho murdered him, then pushed him off it, but Tae ho was down there when Jae hyun came crashing down, unless Tae ho had someone clean up after him.

Which means that So hee's memories of Jae hyun about to jump, and she on the rooftop pleading with him not to, and he taking the fatal plunge, were all FALSE, and meant to mislead us. What was that, anyway? So hee's nightmare? That scene should have been followed by her waking up from sleep, crying...it would make sense then; as it is, now, with the truth revealed, it makes no sense.

She's being delusional. Everything is misleading. I almost thought on the previous episodes that when she saw Tae Ho killing the co-pilot, she's seeing things that has not actually happened in the first place. And why do I have this feeling that she knows something more than that co-pilot incident when she said "I know you know what I'm talking about"and she also threatened Tae Ho that she will say it out loud. Tae Ho killing the co-pilot wouldn't affect the president as much as Yeol's death (which is also Tae Ho's doing) so I guess it's something major that has happened in the past???

So we are stuck with another week of waiting >.<
The rescue boat making its official debut next ep? we are only halfway the drama and they are getting rescued??

i wonder how the story would progress from here .. but i think the rescue boat is probably another new chapter of adventure that they going to start with (since they didnt ALL ended up being rescued and come back together after all.. so the boat is sth fishy)

hope they would address in the next ep on that short glimpse from tae-ho flashback that joon-oh is the murderer.. but i strongly believe in joon-oh, though i was uncertain of him initially, by his actions at the beginning and the jae-hyun incident.. but it seems more and more unlikely he or bong hee is the bad guy as the show progresses.. and everything is pointing towards tae-ho, from his actions when he came back and he threatening ho-hang.)

One thing im always curious, they were all together, but yet it appears those survivals dont know of each other whereabouts or survive or not.. and they are stunned every time when a new survival appears.. so did they spilt up at the end and somehow their luck become better being alone than in groups and made their survival..

And how did they survived, this wasnt address also even for those that came back already? i really dont know how to believe in it.. a miracle is hard enough, but this shows seems to have created several miracle already.. these survivals really came from a deserted island?

i know is the way to advance the story.. but im really sick of more survivals appearing now and then.. the impact is no longer as great as the first time another survival appeared.. and how more and more other people were found on the island (i really want to go in and tell them to pls search the island.. im getting sick of that too.. like this week we got reporter kim..) not to mention his identity.. a reporter on a private jet of a entertainment company? doesnt make sense.. and since he had evidence, though it cant support tae-ho killed jae-hyun, why is he keeping to himself while letting joon-oh blamed.. is he investigating?

and i cant stand the lazy writing (?), why are they all so careless or carefree in confronting tae-ho.. like so-hee and reporter kim.. they really never think.. though ho-hang is a chicken, at least he seems to be acting with more logic/common sense..

I think it is somehow logical and even sad that this people approach Tae-ho without any fear.
Their whole life they lived in a city, it somehow gave them the feeling of safety, plus in case of So-Hee, I think she had this little trust in Tae-Ho, afterall he used to be her friend, they also didn't went too far from others so i guess she believed he wouldn't kill her there.( I guess if she had time to shout everyone would hear it)
In case of reporter Kim, he thought he was safe because he always said the killer is tae-ho, if he was murdered everyone would know who is a killer. He simply thought Tae-Ho wouldn't be that reckless and/or stupid

Required fields are marked *

hmm ok.. maybe its not that illogical.. maybe its the way they showed it..

especially reporter kim.. like totally fearless discussing, anger tae-ho now n then and even outright challenge him, its as if his appearance is to move the plot, which is true, but in the most obvious way..

at least so-hee had the mindset to keep most of these dark things to herself and she only told bong hee about the pilot incident at the most desperate times.. even so-hee to tae-ho, she also say it in a very subtle way that she knows what he did, but not telling exactly what she knows.. she dont even tell the group, when they were all gather around the campfire discussing about what to do with tae-ho, but choose to go and confront him alone afterwards..

Well, there are still many things we don't know about how the survivors got off the island and ended up being rescued or in Chinese waters.
I think it's still too early to call the writer out on that yet.
Take Jae Hyun's so-called suicide as an example. I suspected a while back that it wasn't a suicide because the bleeding on his face didn't look right. Now that's been confirmed.

The problem is exactly what Joon O says, "They are not people I know. Tae Ho and the others too. Or perhaps I just didn't know what they were really like." As well as being my favourite quote in this show, it's also one of the key themes here. Nobody really knows what TH is like. They keep thinking that there's some vestige of human feeling left in him so they treat him like they're living in civilization. They try to reason with him, make deals and threaten him like he's a normal person. There are times when he seems normal enough and repentant even but of course, they weren't entirely privy to his dark side until this episode.

Yes, it's all very silly on a certain level. But this is a guy they think they know well. It's probably a lot harder for them to think that someone they thought they knew so well could be this psychopathic and murderous. It's like what LollyPip says about JO sitting outside watching over TH.

As for Reporter Kim, he probably thought he was reasonably safe with all the people around him that TH wouldn't actually strike out at him. I can sort of understand his perspective. Yeah, on hindsight he should have kept clear and kept his mouth shut but he quite likely thought that there was safety in numbers.

The fact that miracles exist and these people have survived doesn't bother me in the same way that a walkie talkie suddenly activates itself and creates a bridge between the past and the present. I can suspend disbelief because I am required to in order to watch this show. How they survive is not of utmost importance because the important part is that they do and that they give different accounts of what happen. The details of what happened on the island were always fuzzy to begin with and I'm certain that we don't have the full story as yet.

I'm not convinced we can watch this show in a straightforward chronological way and that everything is as it unfolded. I'm not saying that BH is lying (far from it) but we may be seeing things just from one perspective with gaps missing.

That's exactly what this show is always doing (which is also what i like).. They dont show u the scene completely.. Most often the missing pieces hold the key to the whole scene and only to discover another conclusion behind it.. i got no problem with that..

Like how jae-hyun death.. we had seen that scene umpteen times since from the very first episode.. until now then we had a more or less complete scene (from beginning to now, i must say because of this incident my impression towards joon-oh had been from bad at first to good now that he's not really at fault or caused jae-hyun to commit suicide..) though i believe there's still more to it, judging that there's a two version of so-hee scene as pointed out..

And like so-hee death.. with initial memories of bong-hee, it seems she was the murderer and seems to be hiding her memories.. and yet it actually turn out to be tae-ho that killed her..

i know there are still many things (at least content wise from ep9-16 not covered and not known) on how did they actually got rescued.. so the answer we all looking for definitely would be in there..

i can understand for bong-hee case, since they showed her awake in ep1 on a strange land and basically near the chinese area.. and since she had memory loss, so im ok with her not recalling things like how she got there, who else is there etc.. and progress slowly as the story goes.. BUT she had fully recovered (?) her memories in between and yet nothing was discussed.. i mean what would be the first question that comes to your mind if u could ask bong hee (most likely would be something to do with the ending..) so i dont understand the rationale of the writer of letting her remembering everything yet the show isnt utilizing this knowledge.. i think they let her recover everything too early.. or was it a translation error, she meant she remembered everything about so-hee death..

i could understand tae-ho hiding/blurring/distort the truth (since it seems to do him no good, from his actions as shown ever since he returned and he was hiding for a while in china before returning to home.. he's definitely the bad guy, i believe there's no twist that he would be angel after all these).. i could understand ceo hwang since he was unconscious from the accident.. I could understand ho-hang in hiding the truth since he came back in a unstable condition and he was threatened by tae-ho once again.. (but no one seems to be curious how they got back, neither was it explained how they survived and made their way back to korea or at least to the chinese area..) or are we to assume everyone just magically appear near the chinese coastal area with no idea how they got there and got rescued..

0
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

^cont.. I mean not all of them have memories loss except bong-hee at first and not all cant open their mouth like ceo hwang..

if they are back via proper channel (via immigration, and investigation from the chinese counterparts like what bong hee went through) from a crash that ended up in a deserted island after 4 months.. At the very minimal the part on how they individually made their way back should be addressed..

Like now, how come the survivals keep getting the same stunned reaction as the public.. if they are spilt up at the end (it seems to be the case..) why couldnt they just explain this simple setup or at least address that they all spilt up and so they dont know whether who survive at the end and basically after the spilt up, its how the individual manage to survive on their own and cont their own individual story of how they got rescued from there)

For the reasons you've stated, I imagine they will fill us in on how the castaways finally escaped the island because it is a crucial part of TH's testimony that JO tried to kill them all.
Right now we have one person's word against two others.

Obviously they all went their separate ways at some point so that will need to be addressed.

Whether or not it will satisfy viewers will be another matter entirely. ;)

I think people are labouring under the assumption that knowing the whole truth and telling it will make a difference to how the authorities deal with the survivors or justice.

The authorities don't give a damn.

All they want is to take care of the entire situation as promptly and quickly as possible while scoring brownie points with the public if possible.

As far as the shadowy commission is concerned, the truth is irrelevant. It makes no difference to them who's right or who's wrong. They don't care the least bit about justice and it's all about backing the right horse that will do the most good for the government politically.
As far as they're concerned, they are behaving logically or maybe the better word is pragmatically. Compared to a celebrity, Bong Hee is a nobody and her political weight doesn't amount to much.

Bong Hee's testimony is helpful in providing the audience with information about what happened on the island BUT as far as the authorities are concerned, they would rather she just roll over and play dead.

Thanks for the recap! I love Joonohah, too. It is easy with JKH playing him!

I still find this show captivating despite all the issues. I try to not focus too hard on reality while I am watching.

Did anyone else shudder at the absolute lack of empathy Chairwoman Jo had for Ho Hang's trauma? The shattered man shows up alive, after months of horrific events unfolding before him, which they know all about. And she grumbles that he isn't fit to testify? Her disgust with him scared me.
They dismissed him so quickly with a "Geez, get it together, would you?" Like his mental wounds make him weaker. Maybe if a crane fell out of the sky and crushed him physically, they would understand...

First of all, lady, why do you care if he can testify or not? You're just going to manipulate the situation so it looks the way you want. Or better yet, if you really do want to find the truth, help him NOW so you can get credible testimony out of him, rather than something defense counsel can repudiate.

Also, the fuchsia light! It is telling us who the good guys are. Don't believe anything but whom the fuchsia light touches.

After 7eps and I cried at the 8th ep when Joon Oh confessed to the president that he killed Tae Ho. It just break my heart to see him so helpless that he cannot protect his friend even he is a murderer. Im sure that he wanna believe that Tae Ho still a good human being he used to know before.

That scene so heartbreaking that I can feel the sorrow of Joon Ho thru all the years when everyone blaming him for Jae Hyun death. And all the people there finally can feel his burden and try to console him. Just like the president said, tae ho's death mean nothing to them since they know the real him.

I like how the writer potrays Joon Ho character. From the outside, for the early ep we can see him as arrogant idol struggling with his career downfall. But later on, stranded on the deserted island, we can see who is Joon Ho really is. As much as we can see the beast inside Tae Ho, we also learn how much good and warm hearted Joon Oh is.

Cant wait to watch more of this drama, and really hope that Joon oh will comeback alive. Safe and sound.

Episodes 1-4 were more nail biting, or perhaps I was on a marathon watch of them. Beginning to see the plotholes. Tae Ho is so scary, how can the new Director guy just accept all his actions. Guess it is more important to make money off a star than to seek justice. Greed indeed is scary.

Preview seem to hint at more survivors. But I wonder if it is people like Ki Joon or Ji Ah, whose side they will be on. I would assume Bong Hee's or would they too be threatened by Tae Ho of their livelihoods to fully lie. I also fully expect at a point towards the ending for Joon Oh to turn up alive, if everyone else is doing it. It may seem only to turn or clear his name. Or enough survivors come back to fully clear his name.
