Ji Sung is the best dad ever in new Defendant stills

Okay, so initially I was super sad that one of my current favorite dramas, Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, would be ending. But going from Han Seok-kyu to Ji Sung (Entertainer) is pretty much going from awesome to awesome, so I’m cautiously looking forward to SBS’s Defendant. Plus, I need something to expunge the stain that was Entertainer from my mind’s record of Ji Sung, whom I regard as one of the best leading men in Hallyu. The most recent stills that have been released for the upcoming drama have psyched me up much more than all the past promos because Ji Sung and Shin Rin-ah (Legend of the Blue Sea) as a father-daughter pair equals love.

Defendant is about a top prosecutor, played by Ji Sung, who suddenly goes from loving family man to suspected felon. Everyone tells him that he’s guilty — he’s the one who killed his wife, and his daughter is missing. The only thing is, he woke up with amnesia and can’t remember anything, but his gut tells him that he’s being framed. To find answers and his missing daughter, he breaks out of prison and starts hunting down the clues from his shaky memories.

The plot sounds like it’s solid, the first teaser evoked memories of Secret which was good, Ji Sung seems like the best dad ever in the new stills, and Eom Ki-joon (Masked Prosecutor), who is amazing in villain roles, will play both good twin and bad twin. So all in all, I was onboard the Defendant train, until I saw that SNSD’s Yuri (Gogh’s Starry Night) would be co-starring, which makes me a little nervous. I don’t remember her being awful — it’s just that I don’t remember her at all, even though I’ve watched most of the dramas she’s been in. Hopefully, she’ll have better luck at it, playing the plucky public defender who believes in Ji Sung’s innocence.

SBS’s Monday-Tuesday drama Defendant will start airing on January 25.

I have only watch Yuri in Fashion King with Yoo Ah In and Shin Se Kyung and I dislike her acting there. Too stiff and a little monotone delivery but then again I just dislike that drama over-all. I was so in love with Yoo Ah In then just after watching SKKS and then he took that as his next project and yeah.... I hate it..

Hopefully Yuri is better here and have a better luck too. And Jisung is always amazing. And why do everyone put Entertainer in negative light?! I mean sure it wasn't a hit and didn't get high ratings but it was still over-all a good drama. And Jisung was good in it as usual.

Yuri is not that bad in Neighbourhood Hero.. but that drama is overall mess... let's hope that she will improve here.. but I don't mind if she's got sidelined like sooyoung character in squad 38.

Yup, she was quite good in Neighbourhood Hero and pretty good in Gogh, The Starry Night. But they are light roles. Don't know if she can carry a heavier role.

wah.. Eun Sung ah..
i just love Shin Rin Ah in Marriage Contract. She has this amazing chemistry with Lee Seo Jin. Hope she will have that too with Ji Sung.
i never watch drama with Yuri before. Hope she do well in this drama .. really..really hope.. or i just skip her part and watch Shin Rin Ah & Ji sung only

As the trailer tells us the best Dad ever (and he probably really really is!) "goes from an illustrious legal career to prime suspect behind bars for the murder of his wife and (cute adorable) daughter. He’s wrongly accused of this tragic crime."
Thank GOD!

Let's hope it is one of those murders where they cannot actually find the bodies, who are actually happily vacationing in Nantucket all this time...

As far as Yuri, I really liked her in Van Gogh. She was so much better than in Fashion King, I kept checking Dwiki to make sure it was the same person. She may surprise us, right?

How can you give us Ji Sung as an awesome dad who had a wife? Then give us Yuri as a love interest?

It's just wrong. I don't even mind her. I don't love her and I think her acting is serviceable at best. But man... she better have megawatt chemistry with him to sell the relationships. Cos' I sure hope her character is well written as well. So she at least 2/3 going for her.

Isn't that pulling down the star power by casting her? Or does SM think SNSD is still so popular?

I don`t know the idol girl turned actress. If they cast her I trust she can play her part well.
The important roles of this show are Ji sung and Eom Ki Joon`s characters. The audience will be attached with father and daughter story. I doubt the hero has the time and mood for a new love interest. I don`t expect to see a romantic relationship in this drama.

The daughter is gonna end up missing, so this drama will only be about Ji Sung vs Uhm Ki Joon's character. His wife was murdered so no, no love interest.

they still rank in the top 5 of the korea's fav singers list every year even without comebacks consecutively so...

let's leave comments about chemistry or her charachter (which we dont know much about) till the show airs or we get some previews with her in it

Yuri is such a miscast from an otherwise stellar casting. She's a bland actress. JI Sung needs an actress of equal calibre. His Wife would have been a good fit but I doubt both will work at the same time....I only hope she's at least passable and have some chemistry with JI Sung. It reminds me so much of Lee Jun Ki and IU pairing in ML. The writing better be up the mark too.

She's awful, and what makes it worse is that there is no shortage of good actresses. Ji Sung just has terrible luck. From Hyeri to Yuri, it's one mediocre actress to another.

I would've loved to see someone like Moon Chae-won opposite him. She needs something good after the disaster that was her last drama, and she has the acting chops to put on a good performance opposite someone like Ji Sung.

There's a reason why Han Ye Seul rejected this role, I don't think the character is interesting enough to be played by an already well-known/acknowledged actress.

Imo it's probably a solid supporting kinda role, fit for an inexperienced actress trying to grow like Yuri. I think she's gonna do well, because the drama won't focus so much on her character, so even if there is major flaws in her acting, if her role isn't as major as Ji Sung and Uhm Ki Joon's, the flaws can be covered.

I'm actually most excited to see Shin Rin Ah in this! She has been great in Legend of the Blue Sea, but she really killed it in Contract Marriage last year! Definitely a talented kiddo to watch.

Yes! She makes me think of Kim Yoo-jung who was in the first drama I watched ( Powerful opponents) and you could tell that she would become a great actress.

Not really a fan of Ji Sung but I gotta admit he looks sharp and his face is more sculpted plus with that hairstyle...*swoons* Looking at the pics make me wanna watch this drama until I saw Yuri's name. Bummer. Nothing against her, I just wish we could get a more solid, experienced actress. If pdnim/writernim really want an idol actress, try Nana. She's fantastic in The Good Wife drama (and she's not my bias). I appreciate her work in that drama.

Nah, Lee Bo Young deserves a leading role, not a supporting role like Yuri's here. Plus LBY already is confirmed for "Whisper" which is gonna air right after Defendant.

I liked Yuri in Gogh the Starry Night, so I'm quite excited to see how she will grow as an actress in Defendant.

I'm glad that he doesn't let co-star casting affect his choice in accepting projects. I just watched the V-live and he said he was touched by the script, especially since he has a wife and daughter of his own, so he has no regrets, regardless of popularity and ratings.

If Ji Sung was an actor that cared too much about ratings and whether his co-stars will affect them, he would be like a regular actor. But no, he's a genuine actor who only cares about doing his best to deliver the best performance to a good story, and I'm proud to be a fan.

This sounds like a pretty dark drama but I still hope Ji Sung and Yuri get along, like how Ji Sung got along nicely with Hyeri.

I liked Entertainer but couldnt with hye ri's performance sooo I wonder if I'll have that issue again since the co-star isnt all that?? Its sad how the female actingdols i enjoyed -eunjung & jiyeon- arent considered anymore.
