Ha Suk-jin considers a romance with Go Ah-sung in Radiant Office
by tineybeanie
Actor Ha Suk-jin (1% of Anything) has been offered a role in MBC’s upcoming spring drama Radiant Office. If he confirms, he’ll play the main male lead, a talented marketing director scouted from overseas. Go Ah-sung (Heard It Through the Grapevine), who is also reviewing the script, has been offered the role of the main female lead, a struggling rookie temp. Together, they’ll learn about living life to the fullest and discover love as they work together at a furniture company.
Ha Suk-jin’s character is a blunt straight-shooter, whose sharp comments have given him the nickname venom-tongue among his colleagues. It’s a familiar character type for Ha Suk-jin, who often plays the smart, prickly boss—but he always manages to find the humor in the part to keep it interesting.
Although his character looks like he came into the world with a silver spoon firmly tucked in his mouth, he’s actually just a regular guy with humble beginnings who rose to his position through sheer hard work and talent. After work, he becomes a sweatpants-wearing lazy bum who rolls around on his couch, drinking canned beer while relieving his stress by complaining about his frustrating co-workers.
Radiant Office snagged a winning prize for its excellent script at MBC’s open screenwriting contest, so it’s now all up to the actors and production team to transform it into a well-executed drama. If both actors sign on, I have faith that their roles will be well-emoted and compelling, because Go Ah-sung has long been lauded as one of the best young actresses in Chungmuro, and Ha Suk-jin has years of experience playing irascible characters (1% of Anything, Drinking Solo, Standby) but making them lovable all the same.
The workplace slice-of-life drama Radiant Office will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on MBC after Missing 9 ends its run.

I haven't seen Go Ah-sung in anything, but a quick search shows she's 10 years younger. I'll be watching this drama if Ha Suk-jin takes it so hopefully she's talented enough that the age gap isn't noticeable, or one of the two bows out for someone else more fitting.

The character descriptions say that the guy is a marketing director and the girl is a rookie temp - surely a 10 year difference is fitting given the circumstances and it's hardly unusual in real life. People around here seem to be really hung up on age - my policy is if they're both adults, who cares...

She's 24 years old, being bothered about a 10 years older pairing is really stupid.

Firstly, that's incredibly rude.
Secondly, the problem is precisely that she's 24 years old. The level of maturity and experience between someone in their early twenties, and someone in their thirties can be quite significant.
Age difference means less the older you get. A ten year difference between a 40 and 30 year old is vastly different than a ten year difference between some in their early twenties and in their early thirties. That's due to life experience.
And as mentioned in my post, I have never seen this actress before, and my main concern was that her acting ability may not overcome that kind of difference so it's not as awkward on-screen. Your comment strikes me as a lot more stupid, if anything, since you seemed to have missed the crux of the point I was making.
Rain was 12 years older than Krystal in their drama, and they were both adults too. It didn't change the fact that they seemed like a huge mismatch because Krystal looked like she was a child in comparison, and didn't have the experience or ability to cover it up. Even if they were matched up today, it would be no different.

I've watched Go Ah Sung in Through the Grapevine. She's definitely good enough to overcome the age gap if that's a concern. Krystal is worlds apart from Go Ah Sung in terms of acting ability.
Ha Suk Jin can act this role with his eyes closed. But I hope he can bring something new to the table.
I like both individually and would love to see how they pair up.

You don't have to worry not only is she a great and versatile actress, she seems quite calm and mature in real life too. Besides if they both play their age which is a huge possibility it shouldn't be a problem if anything HAJ would probably play younger.
And Krystal is an idol, her main profession isn't even acting. While GAS was a good actress right from her first film in 2006, even HSJ debuted just a year before her. If I would compare this pairing to any other pairing which had a similar age gap it would be the pair from Marriage not dating, they have a 10 year gap too and they both did such a great job there. I wouldn't worry much. And watch Through the Grapevine to see GAS, she was great in it!!!

January 20, 2017 at 4:48 AM
I am replying not defending GAS as if she was my bias. I don't normally like a genre like Through the grapevine. But her acting blew my away. Krystal's acting is like a rock compared to a diamond if you're talking abilities. GAS will BE whatever her character calls her to be. Age will not even matter. The writing and directing might though.

I'm neutral on him, but Go Ah-sung is certainly lovely. And she normally picks stuff with substance.
Not really digging the smart prickly boss/struggling rookie set-up – how many million times do they need to rehash the guy-who-is-amaaaazing + girl-who-is-totally-inadequate combo??? Is there nothing in between?
But, if Go Ah-sung takes it, I'll give it a try.

WELL, there shouldn't be any problem with pairings like this -- OLDER male lead -- this happens all the time in real life.
Here are some dramas with this kind of OTP that actually worked, and worked greatly!
1. MARRIAGE CONTRACT featuring Lee Seo-jin who is more than 10 years older than UUE. It was one of the best dramas of 2016.
2. MY SPRING DAYS featuring Seo Young of Girl's Generation and Kam Woo-sung who is also more than 10 years older that his co-star.
These 2 dramas were a joy to watch because the actors played their roles so well that the age gap doesn't figure at all.

I know age gaps can work, my point is that it's troubling to see how our media is constantly normalizing this specific type of couple which takes away opportunities for older actresses (older being 30+) and makes it feel like seeing a man a decade older than his female partner is always okay. An age gap between couples isn't wrong but the fact that it's always this kind of couple is annoying and unrealistic. Most women I know in their early twenties are still very malleable in their thoughts and feelings, still exploring what they want in life, and if a thirty-something year-old man wanted to date them I'd be very concerned (speaking as a woman in my early twenties).

This a-hole in a suit character only works in comedy. And that's something Ha Suk Jin is very good in. If it wasn't for him playing Premium Trash in Drinking Solo, I'd have given up on the drama. I hate a-holes and chaebol jerks in dramas, I can only stomach them if they are the butt of jokes and we are never to take them seriously.

She's very talented, I hope the drama is good so she takes it and does well.
And for all the netizens and inets who like to call her "ugly" and things like that.... if this is how you treat an actual talented actress with good performances to her name and films screened at prestigious festivals like Cannes ... then you deserve to be stuck with crappy acting-idol CF stars who can't act, don't complain about that.

nah kim go eun is also not extremely talented because people not praising his beauty all the time,
she is good but overpraise and over exaggerated opinion when people can find the fault in her acting is not the same as hating her or anything,
I think people should be valued based on the performance and not getting side eyes just because majority said their beautiful of get a free pass when some said their visual is lacking

She got a lot more criticisms than she deserved before and during the first half of Goblin, especially on her looks.
She is a film actress and this is her 2nd drama. She is far more talented than anyone in Dramaland around her age group.
At age 25 she is still rough around the edges which leaves her room for improvement.
Appreciate her range and natural acting ability. I've seen too many constipated emotional display in dramaland to turn me off from some actors.

Do these people seriously think she's ugly? I am asking this because I am curious if it's because these people have a wholly different standard of beauty or do they have other agendas? There's all kinds of crazy going on in those forums so I'll never know.
I wish they would cast all those pretty idol actors and hallyu stars who can't act in the same dramas. They will cater to these people who just want to gush at beautiful skin and awesome visuals. Spare the dramas who cast bona fide actors and we can enjoy them!

At last we can see Ha Suk Jin on 1 of Korea's big 3 stations. It's long overdue as he's definitely 1 of the most underrated actors who has been forgotten by them. I prefer him to many young idol actors. And he isn't OLD! He definitely looks younger than his 34 years.
I wonder if the poster who describes him as ugly meant it as a "joke"? Anyway, we can always beg to differ.

idk why 10 years old age gap is an issue,
that's their job and if they portray adult as their character then it's okay,
many woman likes 10+ older man and this all complaint about how it creepy is more often based on the viewer overthinking perspective,
if it can happen, legal and fit the narrative context then it settled,
so many people can't find their partner because of social stigma when what really matters is their emotional growth and how they behave to each other,
let see what happen in the drama and then we can make conclusion rather than jump off to criticised the casting just because they both an adult who have big age gap,
