Name That Drama: Traffic disruption, fancy hair chopsticks, and bananas

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. This one seems tough

I saw this drama in 2003, but I am not sure if it was new at the time or not. It was being shown in Uzbekistan.

The two main female characters looked exactly alike, though I don’t know if that was a coincidence or if they were twins that had been separated. One was a very sweet, hardworking person. The other was an actress who was shown to have gone astray (drinking, too many men, so on).

The “good” one liked a movie star or pop star or something like that. The other liked a businessman, I think.

I only saw part of it and it was dubbed into a language I didn’t speak. I have always wondered both what was actually going on and how it ended. It would be great to finally know what it was!

  2. Unless it’s a sageuk, there will always be aimless driving

Beanies, please help me find this drama.

I remember this one scene where the hero was upset, or maybe brooding about something, and he drove his car around and around this wide, straight street at night. (I’m pretty sure he did a lot of abrupt and possibly illegal u-turns.) Because he was disrupting traffic, a cop stopped him and asked whether he lost his way. After that, he made up his mind and went to wherever he decided to go.

  3. Probably poor? How about always poor

Hi, I would like to get some help with finding the title of this drama.

The main guy is a singer or some kind of a famous star, and the female lead is just an average girl (probably poor). I only remember one scene: The guy is singing (I think it’s his concert) and the girl is watching him with his other fans. She stays in front of the crowd, just behind the barriers. It’s seems that the guy sings the song for her.

Everything happens outside. I don’t think he was on the stage, it seemed more like he was standing on the same level as the girl. It must have been winter since everyone seemed to have warm clothes, and it was definitely snowing in that scene. I think it’s a Korean or Taiwanese series. It kind of reminds me of the scene from Star in My Heart but it wasn’t that grand and big. I know it’s very vague but I hope some will recognize the drama.

  4. Aw, we have a young fanatic! Let’s give her a warm welcome and find this drama

Hi, I’m a thirteen-year-old drama fanatic. (I started young! Like, since I was five.) And I need help finding this thing, so please help this marshmallow! Thank you!

I watched this a year or two ago, but it could’ve been older than that. It’s kind of old-fashioned. They wear weird hats and the guys wear long flowing colorful clothes and the girls have their hair up with these fancy chopsticks. I’m not sure if it’s a drama or movie, and although I think it’s a Korean thing, it could’ve been Chinese or Japanese. I don’t have much to go on, but here it goes!

So there’s this girl (isn’t there always?) and she’s kind of a tomboy, and I think she can fight well. I think there was this female monk that taught her.

And then there’s this stupid guy (isn’t there always?) that wants to woo her, so he there, and I’m pretty sure he practically demands to marry her. So they strike a deal or something, and they fight. If he wins, he gets to come back three months(?) later to marry her, but if she wins, he leaves her alone (I think there was more to the deal though). I don’t know who wins. (Sorry!)

Then there this other guy (isn’t there always?), and Guy #2 and Fighter Girl’s parents are friends (I think Fighter Girl’s mom is dead. And she has this female cousin). I think Fighter Girl’s Dad wants Fighter Girl to marry Guy #2, and I also think he dislikes Stupid Guy. And I also think Guy #2 is kind of scared of Fighter Girl. But I also think he warms up to her later on. There was also a sword-slashing fight scene going on in something like a temple(?) or old building.

  5. Impossible? Never. Beanies, assemble!

This has gotta be the most random and vague scene that I don’t even think is worth looking for, but it has really bothered me for the last four years. I just can’t remember which drama this scene came from. I thought I would eventually get over it as time passed, but even after four years, this scene is still bothering me because I absolutely cannot remember which drama this scene came from and who the actors were.

This is a vague description of the scene that I remember:
This guy was sitting in front of a convenience store in the countryside. He had bought bananas from the convenience store, and he’s sitting out in front by this tree to eat them. This old man comes up and sits next to him (I think they knew each other?), and the guy offers a banana to the old man. The old man says no and tells him to save it for himself. They talked some more after that, but I don’t remember anything else besides the banana conversation.

The guy in my description is the main character of the drama, and he’s poor. That’s all I remember about him. This drama could be eight years old or even older. I can’t even remember if it’s Taiwanese or Korean, but I’m leaning more towards it being a Korean drama. Sorry, I’ve watched way too many dramas, so my memory is a big mess. I know it’s impossible for anyone to find this scene, but who knows.

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

In you're beautiful it's not snowing and he's clearly on a huge stage. I'm not positive that #3 is MSOAN but he's at least on a smaller stage pretty close to street level. I remember it was based in winter because he kept calling her Mary christmas.

It sounds like Beautiful Man when the second lead is singing to IU

That's what first came to mind for me too, but the description is vague enough that other dramas probably fit the bill, especially since he was on a stage in that scene.

I knew that wasn't responding to comment # 1 like I wanted it too...

And #4 sounds decidedly Chinese but I could be wrong.

I'm not really good at remembering the shows I've watched, and I'm not even sure if I know any drama from these, the only thing I'm sure of is this is "Name That Drama: Hard Edition".

#3 actually reminds me a lil of Uncontrollably Fond, but the concert did not happen outside. There was snow in some episodes, but again, the concert and snow did not happen together.

Thought the same thing as I started reading the description - until I got farther along. By the end I was left scratching my head too. That scene was most definitely inside, but it was winter though.

Unfortunately it wasn't Mina. That one sounds really depressing. This drama was cheerful. The actress was in Europe for part of it and the sweet girl worked in an office. It was definitely a kdrama. It's been driving me crazy forever :)

Hey, Beanies

So here is my guesses for #3,

Secret Garden, with Oska I think there is a scene in on of the last eps but there is confetti falling not snow
You are Beautiful, she was standing at the back and he was on a huge stage and no snow.
Heartstrings, ?!! When she was in the hospital and they kind of escape on a wheelchair, I think he sing for her and there maybe snow

Dream High, Musical (That is pretty much what I remember about it) ?

There is a scene from the Woman who want to marry, I think ki bum was standing outside with it snowing but can't remember if there was singing involved

This pretty much the dramas I remember with signing
How many dramas had a Singer as one of the lead or is musical ?!

I think #3 is Secret Garden - it reminds me of the flashback scene to teenage Oska and Seul

I think that number #3 is Dream high
Where kim so hyun sing for suzy and she is counting the beat becouse he can't hear.
It was a fake concert, she was behind bars and it was winter but there where no show only confetti.?
First #1 MINA
The #2 one is every drama ?

#3 sounds a lot like it could be 'Pretty Man' when David Choi is singing to IU at a small outside concert. The song is definitely dedicated to her, she stands in the front of the crowd, and the scene happens in winter around Christmas

Required fields are marked *

Like some of you guys, I also thought #3 would be Mary Stayed Out All Night, because I kept seeing Jang Geun Suk in my head when reading the description.

So I think #3 might be Pretty Man, with Jang Geun Suk and IU. I just looked at it right now and the scene is in the latter half of episode 9. There isn't any snow, but everything else in the description matches. Outside, winter, "average" girl standing in the front, not a grand concert.

Do tell me if it's this one you mean

Number 4 sounds like something based on the Chinese folk heroine Wing Chun. The teacher female nun and the bet that she would marry whoever can beat her are central to most adaptions of the story, but there are many many adaptions, film and tv dramas of the story. Probably the most accessible one being the 1994 version starring Michelle Yeoh.

p.s. those aren't chopsticks being worn in the hair, but hairpins.

if the heroine is really really poor and the main hero is a singer, then maybe it is one of the oldies... "Star in my heart". It is such a classic with him being a classical bad boy pursuing a beautiful but poor her thay I think it is a "must see" drama for all ;)

I think that # 4 is Snow Lotus Flower / Lucid dream from 2015with Ji Jin Hee. I watched it recently and it kinda fits the description.

Its really hard as so many dramas are filled with similar scenes of aimless driving and ML singing in front of the FL.

#2 is definitely not Mask as the FL doesn't drive recklessly rather she's forced to and she doesn't go anywhere, she's led into a big accident...

Required fields are marked *

Ok, yes it can be Mask as the ML who once drives recklessly (actually in circles) where he'll be caught by a cop... but its on the highway and not on his own lane.

Hey y'all...can I ask one too? There was this kdrama scene where this evil, nasty chaebol accidentally hits a family, but because he's having a bad day he threatens the family to stay in the car, jumps on their hood and starts bashing out their windshield with a golf club or something else. It was so memorable and I thought I'd know the kdrama but I can't think of which one it is. :(

You're probably referring to Namgoong Min in Remember—War of the Son. It wasn't a family though, just an ajumma.
