Kim Yoon-seok and Byun Yo-han headline time-slip movie Will You Be There
by chickachunga
If you could go back in time, what would you change? This is the central question of the upcoming fantasy time-slip movie Will You Be There, directed by Hong Ji-young (The Night Before the Wedding, Kitchen) and based on the bestselling French novel of the same name written by Guillaume Musso.
Will You Be There is the story of a surgeon named Soo-hyun who receives ten special pills that allow him ten chances to travel to the past. He goes back in time thirty years and meets his younger self, and together, they try to save the woman they love by reversing her imminent death. Kim Yoon-seok (The Priests) plays present-day Soo-hyun, and Byun Yo-han (Six Flying Dragons) plays past Soo-hyun. Chae Seo-jin, formerly known as Kim Go-woon and younger sister to Kim Ok-bin (Overman, My Brilliant Life), plays Yeon-ah, an aquatic animal trainer and the woman the two Soo-hyuns love and fight to save.
The trailer opens with aerial footage of Angkor Wat and Kim Yoon-seok receiving a bottle of golden pills. He gazes longingly at a wrinkled photograph of the woman he loved, and we hear him say, “There’s one person I’ve always wanted to see.” He throws back a pill and is transported to the past where he faces Byun Yo-han. Kim realizes that he’s been transported thirty years into the past to 1985.
“This may be hard to believe, but you’re me from thirty years ago, and I’m you thirty years later,” he explains to Byun, who wonders why he came all the way from the future and showed up just to see Yeon-ah. Byun notices Kim’s grave expression and asks, “Yeon-ah’s not there [in the future]?” Kim says the past can’t be reversed, but Byun is determined to decide his own future, even willing to sacrifice his life if he has to. He asserts that together, they can block something from happening.
I’m getting Signal and Nine: Nine Time Travels vibes, which are decidedly great vibes to have, and with the always fantastic Kim Yoon-seok and Byun Yo-han driving the movie, I’m feeling quite optimistic about the movie’s potential for success.
Will You Be There will premiere sometime in December.

They chose ideal actors for these roles. There's some facial resemblance. I really love these kinds of stories - time travel. Big fan of Nine and Signal too.
Sighs. Maybe I'm gloomy but I feel like they probably won't save her or if they do, he'll die. :(

I love this kind of genre. I'm always curious as to how they will resolve the issue and see what kind ending they will give.
This also reminds me of a short film. It has the same concepts (someone traveling to the past to warn his past self), 5-minutes long, and a tearjerker. It's called This Time by the Jubilee Project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhSro8Kpyfs

Ooh, the ten pills shtick reminds me of the incense sticks in Nine. I love these very specific methods of time travel.

Kim Yun-seok's movies is a must see for me. I hope Chae Seo-jin is as talented as big sister Kim Ok-bin.
This sounds like my kind of movie for the holidays. Too bad I can't watch it in my pjs.

I'm getting Mirae's Choice vibe.. and that's not something I want to associate this movie with.
Still, it's nice to see Byun Yo Han working his way up in Chungmuro!

Of course it would remind people of Nine, because Song Jae Jung, the writer of Nine, admitted after the show ended that she had this book open while she was writing her show - she said it was supposed to be a remake of the novel but CJ failed to get the rights so they just went ahead and aired the show anyway, fully knowing that it's plagiarism when you don't get the writer's permission.
They blamed Guillaume Musso for not giving them the rights but it's such a petty excuse because this movie managed to do it! With Musso's blessing too!
It's so frustrating that people are gonna think this movie was either inspired by Nine or has the same storyline, when this movie is a legit remake and Nine is just a plagiarized piece of work.

Thanks for sharing that piece of info. That kinda takes the wind out of Nine's sails a bit.
Gonna hunt for the novel instead.

Haha... I saw the three actors last night on KBS being interviewed. While I recognized Kim Yoon-seok, I couldn't name Byun Yo-han although his face looked very familiar to me. I kept coming up with "Jang Geun-suk ? No, that's not him. Damn, what's his name ??".
And, when I see this article I went "ah ! Of course !". :D

This and another project(movie or drama) about going back in time or meeting past self to save wife/loved one reminds me of that one depressing webtoon. http://m.webtoons.com/en/romance/for-the-sake-of-sita/list?title_no=349 the guy too is a surgeon/doctor, but he doesnt necessarily meet with his past self.. i recommend to read it, its very sad yet beautiful

When I read the title, I can't help but think of that creepy song in I Hear Your Voice: "Just call my naaaaaaame~ and I'll be there."

I read the novel, it was used to adapt 9 Time Travels. The novel itself was 'weak' for my taste, but I am curious how they will retell it. In all honesty - I'll just be watching Byun Yo-han. I find him exceptionally talented.
