Name That Drama: Empty boxes and octopus-related discussions
by HeadsNo2
As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.
- Can we all agree that empty boxes filled with “feelings” aren’t gifts?
A particular scene bothered me when I watched Episode 12 of Cinderella and the Four Knights, it’s where Ji-woon gave Ha-won an empty box as a gift.
I remember a hand opening a (red?) box, and that something was put inside. But he/she put nothing, and quickly closed the box. The box was also empty. Someone said, “Is it our precious memories?” Or you know, something along those lines. I didn’t remember the face, I only remember the hand!
I’m being impossible with such a vague description, but that’s all I remember. What is this drama?
- Beanie sleuths, activate!
I can’t remember the plot of this drama very well. All I can remember is that it’s about a girl who gets her dream job as a secrety, but it soon turns into a nightmare when she realizes her boss is terrible. I found the drama on Netflix, but it was taken down soon, so I couldn’t finish watching it.
- I’ll be impressed if you guys can find this one
There’s a movie that I’ve been wanting to see, and I happened to watch the first five minutes like, five years ago. It’s definitely Korean, but I can’t seem to recall the actors or the general plot of the movie.
All I remember from the start is that there are a number of different characters in the story, and it transitions between the “couples.” I remember that in one of the scenes, a girl got cheated on and they were arguing. In another scene, two people were talking and making out in a hotel room.
It sounds like a mess and is very vague, but I’ve been searching for it for years now. Would be great to find out the name.
- This kind of sounds weirdly adorable
Hi! The recent octopus/squid discussion in Drinking Solo made me think about another scene in another drama, but I can’t remember which one it was. It’s driving me crazy, and I was hoping someone could help. I saw it pretty recently, but that might not mean that it was a recent show.
The female lead is upset, goes to a street stall, and gets very drunk. Someone there orders an octopus, and she’s very upset when the ahjumma has to pull the two of them apart, because she imagines that the two octopuses are in love. She does not find that comforting. And of course, one of the male leads is there to see her meltdown.
I can visualize the scene playing out very well but not the actors, and I’m not sure of the details either. But it was a very distinctive scene!
- Oh oh oh!! I think I know this one
This is a Korean drama, and I’m going to say it had to have aired within the last five years. I only remember one scene where a female character was working in a toll booth or something like that on the highway, and a male character drove by the booth and gave a ring in a box to the female character. He wasn’t proposing to her—he was either throwing it away, or he wanted her to throw it away. That’s all I remember, which isn’t much, but thanks.
- This one comes with clips!
These are just a few minute clips of a drama that I watched a long time ago, but now I can’t remember the name or anything like the actor or actress’s names related to it! It was broadcasted by SBS. I don’t remember the year! It’s about this teacher, school life, romance, etc., and I can tell that it seems like it was telecasted long ago. (Not sure, though.)
I don’t even know how I came across these clips on Youtube with these weird titles, but the drama itself was good! I have been searching for this for SO LONG but can’t seem to find it! I am desperate to watch it and you are my only resort left! Thank you in advance.
Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

#2 could be "Falling for Innocence" a.k.a. "Falling for Soon Jung" <== "Soon Jung" is a female Korean name, but it is also the Korean word for 'innocence', so it's a play on words for the title of the drama =) I also saw that it was available on Netflix before
#5 is 2013's "Secret" a.k.a. "Secret Love", starring Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung

There is a slight difference from the reader's description, though I don't know if it is material.
In Falling for Innocence, at the start of the drama Soon Jung was already a secretary, assisting her long-time boss who was an aged man. The male lead was a ruthless businessman who had forcibly taken over control of her company and that is how he ended up as Soon Jung's boss.

I thought of Hogu's Love too. It's Hogu who had a fit about the squids though. And as you mentioned it's octopuses.
And I really wanted to guess for once!

It is! I'm pretty sure #6 is School 2. Jae Hee starred in that with Kim Rae-won, Ha Ji-won and a few other popular actors. How it pains me that Jae Hee never got that kind of popularity.
I've always wanted to watch all the School series, if only to see all my favs when they were younger. Wish there were subs available.

For two...Protect the Boss was on Netflix once upon a time. Could that be it?
I mean, "dream job/bad boss" is to K-Drama basically what "stranger comes to town" is to old shoot-em-up Westerns ?
There are lots of possibilities, but Netflix's limited selection helps narrow it a bit.

That was my guess too, I was thinking of the one part with the married couple that the husband cheats and his lover is obsessed with his wife. She either wants to love her or be her or be inside her haha it was very confusing to me.

For #3 how about Love Now with Lee Dong-Gun and Uhm Jong-Hwa? Although it is only about two couples exchanging partners but the talk and make-out scene is not in a hotel but his apartment IIRC.
Or it could be Five Senses of Eros. Make sure to listen to Song Joong Kis scene with extra loud speakers. ;)

Checked my copy of Tone Deaf Clinic, and sure enough, there's the scene. I've seen both that and Hogu's love, but I think I remember the Tone Deaf scene more, the scene is exactly as described by the person who is looking for the show for #4. It's sort of funny that Park Ha Sun is in both Tone Deaf and Drinking Solo, and both are comedies. She has played serious characters, but her comedic ones seem to be the most memorable.

Agggghh, yes! I wrote #4, and I did see and loved Ho-gu's Love, so I was really doubting my memory when people said that was it. But I have also seen Tone Deaf Clinic like three times, it's super cute, and I'm sure that's the answer.

Glad you found your answer :) Park Ha Sun tries so hard to sing these songs but she fails every time, LOL. She also shows up in High Kick 3 where she massacres Roly Poly (by T-ara) as well, hehe. Now that I think about it, Gong Myung discovers Ha Sun at a Norebang massacring another song, hehe. She must be very upset at Jung Chaeyeon for actually singing a bunch of songs in tune, LOL.

I believe the clips in #6 are from episode 7 or 8 of the 1998 SBS show 납량특선 8부작. I didn't have any luck finding the English version of the title.
Googling the Hangul name brings up the official SBS All VOD site as one of the first links, and all 8 episodes seem to be available there.

Some answers have already been said but I'm adding this anyway, to further confirm or something I guess
2: Could be "Protect the Boss". But like said, many dramas have this kind of concept.
3: (Possibly) "Five Senses of Eros", segment "Believe in the Moment" - about couples who switch partners for a while.
5: DEFINITELY "Secret".
