Moonlight Drawn By Clouds: Episode 12

Of all the adjectives I could use to describe Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, I wouldn’t have predicted that badass would be one of them, but today’s episode had a unexpectedly badass tinge to it, and it got my blood pumping in excitement. The dangers in the palace are mounting, but if one’s life must be in peril, the least we can do is to also provide an opportunity to prove oneself in a way that mere words couldn’t.

EPISODE 12: “Faith becomes fate”

As Yeong sits with Ra-on, he thinks to his talk earlier with Teacher Dasan, when he’d seen Ra-on’s mother show up once more. He hadn’t thought much of it until she mentioned seeing someone at the lantern festival who resembled her child, and that had provided Yeong with the missing link.

So now, he asks Ra-on to promise not to let go of him when confronted with difficulty, and she agrees. He tells her his wish has been fulfilled, and steps aside as she reunites with her mother.

As mother and daughter embrace, Teacher Dasan watches from a distance and exchanges looks with Yeong.

In another flashback, we see their most recent talk, when Yeong had confronted Teacher Dasan about hiding the truth from Ra-on’s mother—he knows both are looking for each other, and they ought to be allowed to reunite. Teacher Dasan asks what would happen if that reunion proves dangerous to the prince—especially when remaining silent on the matter could allow him to be happy with Ra-on.

Yeong says firmly that while he doesn’t know what that danger may be, he doesn’t want to be the cause of breaking up a family.

Mother and daughter can’t get enough of looking at each other, and Mom asks if it has been difficult for Ra-on all this while, wondering how she came to be a eunuch. Ra-on replies that she’ll tell her the full story in due time, and assures her that she’s living well, and that the prince is very good to her.

Mom’s face falls as she realizes, “Then that person over there… is the crown prince?” Her expression clouds.

Yeong tells Teacher Dasan that his words do concern him, but he’s thankful that Dasan gave him the choice. Teacher Dasan replies, “Is fate something you can meet just by wanting to, or avoid just by wanting to?” Yeong returns, “That is exactly what I want to say.”

Ra-on’s mother is subdued as she and Ra-on rejoin the prince, though she doesn’t outwardly betray her fears. Yeong assures her that Ra-on will be released from palace service soon, and Ra-on happily says goodbye, telling her mother they’ll see each other soon.

After Ra-on and Yeong leave, Teacher Dasan tells Mom, “Now what’s left is for Ra-on to make a choice.” But Mom disagrees, deeply unnerved to hear that Ra-on is at the palace, and in such close proximity to the prince. She laments, “You know this cannot be.”

A sudden downpour sends Ra-on and Yeong under a tree for temporary cover. She offers to fetch an umbrella, and Yeong commands, “Do that.” As she turns to go, he adds, “…is what you think I would say?”

Instead, he takes her by the hand and leads her on a slow stroll in the rain. She suggests he hurry his pace, then supposes that the prince never runs in the palace.

Yeong replies, “But what of it? Do you suppose a prince ever liked a eunuch either? It all just happened that way.”

All of a sudden, Yeong yanks her closer by the hand and shields her from the rain with his sleeve. He gives her the nod and they take off together, running in the rain.

Byung-yeon slips into the prince’s empty room, casts a wary look around, and leaves a book on his desk. Ooh, is that the secret ledger he hadn’t handed over to his rebel leader?

He ducks out stealthily when Yeong and Ra-on enter the room, and Ra-on fetches a handkerchief from a chest to pat the water from Yeong’s face. She worries that he’ll catch a cold, but he just stares into her eyes and places his hand on top of hers. He reaches to untie her hat ribbon and pulls the hat off her head.

Then with a sly grin, he literally sweeps her off her feet and carries her over to his bed, where he sits down with Ra-on in his lap. He takes the handkerchief from her hand, then returns the gesture, dabbing the moisture from her face.

“I’m scared,” Ra-on tells Yeong. He asks why, and she replies, “Because I’m so happy. What if happiness meant for someone else has come to me? And what if it will be stolen away again?”

Yeong asks if she’s that happy to see her mother again. Ra-on says that it’s a happy thing to have someone to be with both inside and outside of the palace. “If you’re happy, I’m happy too,” Yeong says.

Then he adds, “But you talk as though you will be fine without me outside of the palace, and that makes me sad.” Ra-on assures him not to worry: “Without your permission, would I go anywhere?”

Byung-yeon reports to Head Eunuch Han that he left the book in the prince’s room, as ordered. Byung-yeon seems worried about the plan, but Head Eunuch Han tells him, “If one does not mean to act, there was no need to have hidden.” It’s all very cryptic for now, but I’m sure it’s meant to be.

Byung-yeon asks when the eunuch will reveal everything to Ra-on. Eunuch Han says, “I am waiting—for when the prince cannot do anything.” Well that sounds dire.

Yeong reads his way through a pile of scrolls with a thunderous expression, and informs the elder Minister Kim (the minister of personnel) that they are accusations against him for accepting bribes in making government appointments. Yeong asks why none of these messages ever made it to him, and the nervous younger Minister Kim makes the excuse that they were unverified claims.

Yeong makes Dumb and Dumber sweat more when he informs them that the petitioners anticipated this response and included evidence. He takes out that book left by Byung-yeon, which they recognize, given that it was stolen from their home. The book contains a list of every government official who’d gotten his position through bribery, in full detail.

Minister Dumb can barely even whisper that the charge is false, and when Minister Dumber is pressed, he has to admit that the information checked out as accurate. Yeong orders Minister Dumb removed from his position.

The minister feebly argues out that the prince must investigate this more thoroughly and consider the situation more carefully. Yeong tells him he’s right—he will be investigating this with the utmost gravity. Booyah.

At the Kim family home, the inner circle discusses this calamity, wondering how the prince ended up with the stolen ledger o’ corruption. Their lead henchman joins them to report back that when he went to meet the supposed informant, they were already dead. However, he was able to find the name of Hong Kyung-rae’s lost daughter: Hong Ra-on.

Yoon-sung remains silent while his elders mull this over. They deduce that Ra-on won’t have used her real name, and order the henchman to keep digging.

Next, Yoon-sung goes to Yeong’s palace to discuss the bride selection, but hears that he’s in his library and heads over there instead.

In the library, Yeong reads at a table while Ra-on naps with her head on her arm. He moves his book to shield her from the sun, and sees her smiling in her sleep. Ra-on opens her eyes, and Yeong lays his head down on the table too, as they hold their gazes steady.

He asks, “Even when you close your eyes, do you see me? You were smiling so much in your sleep.” Ra-on answers, “Yes, I dreamed of you.”

Yoon-sung steps inside as Yeong takes Ra-on’s hand and asks about her dream. Yoon-sung turns to leave quietly, just as Ra-on explains, “I dreamed of when you first called me Ra-on-ah.”

At that name, Yoon-sung whirls back around, and Yeong replies, “Sleep more, Ra-on-ah.” Yoon-sung’s eyes widen as he makes the connection.

Ousted Minister Dumb is feeling vindictive, and plots of a way to get back at the prince. Minister Dumber protests that it would be treason, but the elder Kim has thought of a cover. He produces the rebel mask (dropped by Byung-yeon), explaining that they can carry out their scheme, drop the mask at the scene, and blame everything on the rebels. They can use this chance to accomplish several goals at once: hasten Yeong’s wedding, keep the rebels in check, and knock down the prince.

Minister Dumber asks how to handle their plot with the prime minister, and Minister Dumb replies that the prime minster would not stop them. Yes, but he’s your only brain—are you sure you want to operate without him?

Young Master Jung continues skulking around the princess’s palace, waiting for a clear moment to sneak in and hang a set of food boxes on the gate handle. The minute he turns, though, he finds Princess Myeongeun watching suspiciously, and he stammers out a lame excuse about walking by.

At her mistrustful expression, he comes clean about being unable to forget a beautiful woman who used to live here. He gazes at her longingly, meaning her, but Princess Myeongeun wonders if he’s thinking of her former court lady, Wol-hee. Young Master Jung fumbles for an explanation and says that the woman is no longer here.

She sees the boxes, and Young Master Jung explains that he prepared things that the woman used to like. The princess lights up at the sight of her favorite sweets, starting to shove one in her mouth before she recalls herself.

She puts the sweet back without tasting it and says that Wol-hee didn’t like these. She orders him to take them away, resisting the temptation to eat them, and says that Young Master Jung must have liked someone with similar tastes as herself.

Yeong drops by to see Byung-yeon, but finds his quarters empty. As he turns to go, he knocks a pile of clothing onto the ground and picks them back up. The bloodstained clothing is a little odd, but it’s the mask that grabs his attention, and he thinks back to when he saw something similar.

Yeong recalls that fight in the city streets, when he’d jumped in to fight alongside Byung-yeon and seen a dropped mask. And just as he makes the mental connection, Byung-yeon arrives.

Ra-on’s mother receives an unexpected visit from Head Eunuch Han, and seems rather angry to see him. She asks bitterly if he ever thought of how she and Ra-on lived all this time while her husband prepared for the rebellion. Head Eunuch Han promises to take care of them now, but Mom rejects his help, afraid for what will happen to Ra-on.

Eunuch Han pleads for her to help them ensure that hundreds of civilian deaths did not go in vain. Mom asks, “We do not know anything. Please, do not take any further interest in us.”

When Byung-yeon arrives, Yeong indicates the bloodied clothing and asks if he’s injured. Oh no, are you hoping he’ll come clean on his own? I can’t watch. It hurts to see Byung-yeon lie, not knowing that Yeong has suspicions; he says the injury came from yesterday’s training session.

Then, Yeong hears from another official that not only did Byung-yeon skip training today citing illness, there was no training yesterday. Yeong’s face hardens, and oh no, there goes another crack in my beloved bromance.

That night, Yoon-sung runs into his grandfather’s henchman out in the city, who has found where Ra-on is and is eager to report to the Kim clan. Yoon-sung’s eyes widen in alarm to hear that he knows Ra-on is at the palace, and he asks if there’s proof. The henchman shows the document he’s carrying, and Yoon-sung sends him along to make the report.

Then, Yoon-sung follows the henchman through the dark city streets. The henchman senses his tail, but relaxes when he sees that it’s Yoon-sung, who says he forgot to tell him something.

He motions the man closer—and then slashes his throat. Omo omo. I don’t even know whether I’m glad or not about this! Yoon-sung takes the letter from the dead man, and its contents make his eyes widen in alarm.

At the palace, the Kims’ plot unfolds. Masked men in black infiltrate the palace walls and take down the night guards quickly, then open the gates for the rest of their ranks. Two of their own take up the guard posts while the rest head inside.

After reading that alarming document, Yoon-sung goes straight to Yeong. But Yeong starts by warning him not to say a word about Sam-nom (Ra-on): “If [she] needs anything, I will be the one to do it.”

Yoon-sung contradicts him: “What Eunuch Hong needs is to leave this place.” Yeong bristles, considering this an overreach by Yoon-sung; any problem-solving will be up to Yeong.

Yoon-sung doesn’t seem able to entirely flout his family, but he says earnestly, “As long as the two of you are together, you are in danger too.” That makes Yeong think of Teacher Dasan’s comments too, and he asks Yoon-sung what that danger is.

But Yoon-sung has no answer, so Yeong dismisses him, saying that if he was going to be shaken by such words, he would never have begun in the first place.

A bit later, as Ra-on carries a tray of tea down the hall, she’s assailed from behind and dragged away. Her tray crashes to the ground, and around the corner several court ladies lie in pools of their own blood.

From his room, Yeong snaps to attention, picking up on the disturbance. His call outside goes unanswered, and he senses something wrong; he picks up his sword and readies himself, approaching his doors cautiously.

Then he flings open the doors, and finds Ra-on held at swordpoint, with an army of masked intruders at her back. Yeong draws his sword and asks who they are, but they remain silent and continue their approach, pulling Ra-on along with them.

Yoon-sung makes his way out of the palace, and as he passes by the (impostor) night guards, he notices blood on their hands. He pauses in his tracks, and the two guards exchange looks and draw their swords.

But Yoon-sung anticipates this and charges them, swiftly taking charge of the situation and cutting them both down.

The masked mob advances into Yeong’s room, and he backs up warily, very aware of the blade held to Ra-on’s neck. Finally he drops his sword and tells them that he doesn’t know what they want, but they can let Ra-on go first.

He reaches a hand out slowly, carefully, toward Ra-on, and she reaches out to grasp it. Just before they make contact, the leader raises his sword to charge the prince, who reacts just a hair quicker—he yanks Ra-on toward himself, clearing the sword’s downward swing by inches, and holds her protectively.

In the next split-second, a body comes flying in through the paper-lined doors, breaking through the slats and rolling into the middle of the fray. It’s Yoon-sung (woohoo!), and he slashes one intruder on his way to joining the prince.

For a long moment, the two sides regard each other, and then the intruders charge. Yoon-sung launches himself forward and deftly fights one group, while Yeong does remarkably well defending himself with his sword scabbard.

At one point, blocking one attack with the scabbard leaves him open to another attack, and an assassin charges in with a sword pointed straight at Yeong’s chest. Yoon-sung sees the situation and leaps forward, grabbing the blade with his bare hand and stopping it mere inches from Yeong’s face.

Then Yoon-sung whirls around with the blade still firmly in his grasp, ignoring the injury to his hand as he holds his position. Yeong is so shocked he can’t believe his eyes, but Yoon-sung doesn’t even betray a hint of weakness while his hand grows bloodier and bloodier.

Ra-on looks around frantically to try to help, and spots Yeong’s dropped sword on the floor. She slides it across the floor to Yeong, and he kicks it up by the hilt and grabs it in one smooth motion.

Newly armed, Yeong fights with renewed determination, and (thankfully!) helps free Yoon-sung’s hand from its grip on the sword.

Now both friends launch themselves fully into the fight, whirling in tight quarters and taking on multiple assailants simultaneously. Yoon-sung drives several of them outside and fights in the hallway; Yeong takes on the remainder still inside.

Then, one attacker charges Ra-on, who’s unarmed and alone. Yeong spots the danger and darts forward, blocking the sword with his own and taking down the assassin.

But as he faces one swordsman, he misses the one at his back until it’s too late—the blade slashes across Yeong’s back. His blood spatters the walls.

Yeong is still able to hold his stance, but a final assassin drives forward and stabs Yeong in the gut with his sword. Oh no. No no nooooo.

Yeong musters the last bit of strength to cut down one assailant, but he’s injured badly and fading. With a gasp, he falls onto his knees, and when he looks up at the last masked assassin, he pictures Byung-yeon standing there instead.

He asks in a trembling voice, “Is it you, Byung-yeon-ie?” Ooof, that. It feels like the possibility of betrayal hurts even more than the stab wound in his gut.

The assassin still wears Byung-yeon’s face as he raises his sword for the deathblow. Ra-on watches in horror, and then the sword swings downward…

But only for a second, before the assassin goes slack, stabbed in the back. As he crashes to the ground, we see the real Byung-yeon behind him, here in just the nick of time. Oh thank god. Thank you thank you thank you.

Byung-yeon apologizes for his late arrival, then sees one attacker fleeing and runs after him.

Yeong barely has time to register this before his injuries overcome him. Ra-on catches him just as he falls unconscious in her arms.

Yoon-sung returns to the room, sees the scene, and quietly turns away.

The king is beside himself over this attack, and asks the prime minister what to do. Prime Minister Kim advises him to keep this incident from leaking outside the palace, arguing that it will do no good to stir public sentiment, and I’m thankful that at least Head Eunuch Han sharpens his gaze at that. Prime Minister Kim assure the king that he will take care of it quietly.

The mood Chez Kim is grave, and Dumb and Dumber assure the prime minister that they tied all their loose ends. But they’re putting on a false front for their leader’s sake, because privately Dumb and Dumber fret about the one missing assailant: They sent ten, but there were only nine bodies. They hope he made a clean escape, but it’s a definite complication.

Ra-on waits in pins and needles for the royal doctor to finish tending to the prince, and asks to see Yeong. She gets a stern refusal, and when she pleads to know how Yeong is doing, the doctor ignores her question.

At home, Yoon-sung sits down to paint, but his concerns weigh on him heavily, stopping him before he starts.

Yeong remains unconscious as he is treated by the royal doctors. Ra-on huddles in his empty room, wondering when he will return.

Finally, Yeong opens his eyes, and the doctor at his side breathes a sigh of relief. As do we all. He informs Yeong that he’s been moved temporarily from his blood-soaked palace, and is under strict orders from the king to restrict all visitors other than doctors.

Yeong sits up with difficulty and requests one of his attendants, as he has something he needs to retrieve.

So Ra-on is allowed in, although she pauses outside the door. She calls out to Yeong and asks if he’s okay, and has to struggle to hold back tears. She reminds him of her words that she was so happy it scared her: “When you collapsed, I was so scared. I thought, ‘In the end, my happiness is being taken back.’ Please do not ever let go of my hand. I will not let go, either.”

She reaches a hand to the door and rests it there longingly. And then, a hand joins hers, and an arm wraps comfortingly around her shoulders.

“How impertinent,” Yeong tells her. “Without my approval, there will be no one who can steal away your happiness. So, do not cry.”

He tightens his grasp and vows, “Because I will not ever let go of this hand.”

Ra-on’s tears continue to fall, but at his words she does seem to breathe easier, resting into his hold as they stand there holding each other.

And then, we rejoin Yeong and Ra-on when he’s back to full health and just about to grant Ra-on permission to leave for the day. She promises to be back before curfew, but he insists that she be back before sundown instead. Ra-on pouts a little, then agrees.

Unbeknownst to her, Ra-on’s mother is determined to leave with Ra-on and informs Teacher Dasan. She has been deeply shaken by the news of Ra-on serving the prince, as well as the recent attack, and can’t abide the fear of leaving Ra-on there.

Ra-on arrives outside the house just as her mother says, “That our Ra-on and the crown prince have each other in their hearts as lovers—do you truly not understand what that means?”

Yeong spends the day at his desk, and looks up in surprise when a court lady lights a candle; the day has passed and Ra-on is not back yet. He pouts a little, but then laughs it off.

Ra-on’s mother tells Teacher Dasan that she worked so hard to cast off “that cruel fate,” forcing a beautiful girl to live as a boy. “If anybody finds out that our Ra-on is the daughter of Hong Kyung-rae…”

Ra-on opens the door and looks at her mother in shock.

Yeong paces outside Ra-on’s building that night, and thinks back to the promise he asked of her—to not let go of him even in her most difficult moment. He also thinks of Ra-on’s cheerful comment that she wouldn’t go anywhere without his permission.

Ra-on arrives, and asks if Yeong has waited a long time. He turns to face her, and in one moment feels a swoop of relief. They stand there and beam at each other, eyes shining.

COMMENTS

Oh, my beloved bromances are back! And if not in full swing, then at least on the clear road to recovery, which is enough for my full heart today. How I’ve missed these boys being friends, trusting and leaning on each other, and with everything that’s gotten in the way to cause doubt and suspicions, I loved that today sort of charged in and proved things in one fell swoop. Almost like fate deciding it was done with the confusion and deciding to clear everything up in a bold, undeniable way.

I’m thrilled that Yoon-sung got a chance to do something definitive this time, because he is the character with the most information, but because of his conflicted loyalties, he’s often prevented from taking an active hand. We’ve seen his good, upstanding nature in action and he’s definitely crossed the family loyalty line before to side with Yeong, but I’ve worried that he would be the kind of person whose good nature got stifled by silence, who was never quite as bad as our more evil villains but also complicit by not rejecting them. Who might find his integrity compromised the longer he remained silent, which makes him on par with the king, and that’s a comparison nobody wants.

I’m not assuming that everything is suddenly hunky-dory now between Yoon-sung and Yeong, and there is the tricky matter of Yoon-sung knowing about Ra-on’s identity and being determined not to lose her. But there’s something so visceral about seeing somebody risk their life to save you that makes it impossible to just return to the status quo afterward. I loved Yoon-sung’s decisiveness when he grabbed that blade away from Yeong, but I loved even more the bewilderment on Yeong’s face as he witnessed it. From his look, it was clear he hadn’t believed Yoon-sung was capable of that kind of sacrifice, and it lands with more impact considering they’d just parted on tense terms. I’m excited for what this means for them now; I’m practically bouncing in my seat in anticipation for a full Three Musketeers revival. With a song and a dance and a secret handshake and everything. I’m getting ahead of myself, but what can I say, the thought makes me giddy.

And as if that weren’t enough excitement, I was doubly jazzed when the attack forced Yeong to confront his worst fears about Byung-yeon betraying him, and at the same time proved them wrong. (Yeong’s plaintive “Is that you, Byung-yeon-ie?” was a knife in the heart.) I’ll admit that I don’t love that Ra-on is often in a dangerous position and unable to defend herself—I don’t expect her to be a fighter or fearless, since that wouldn’t make sense with her character, but it just feels like she’d have died a dozen times without Young—but today, she was part of a means to get both bromances out of purgatory, and it was worth the result.

Similarly to Yoon-sung, I don’t think one fight will fix all of the doubts about Byung-yeon that have arisen through numerous suspicious acts, and he still has a lot to answer for, but it does clear up the biggest, most hurtful doubt. I’ll take that. And the relief is twofold, because on top of demonstrating for us that the friendship was real, it also reinforces the fact that the prince isn’t totally alone after all. He may not have a lot of people on his side, but when they’re as capable and kickass as these two buddies, they more than make up for the lack in numbers.

I got so excited about the boys that it almost overshadowed the poignant moments with Yeong and Ra-on, which is nuts because it was also an episode chock-full of heart-stirring exchanges between them. You know, I started thinking today that we keep expecting doom ‘n’ gloom to arrive with the royal wedding, and I know the show intends to address that (Ha-yeon’s character description identified her as the crown princess from the outset), but I’ve decided to stop dreading it as the end of all things. We’ve got three weeks left now, and our OTP is safe and intact; I don’t doubt that they’ll be slammed with opposition and angst and danger, but is that any different from what they’ve faced thus far? If the show has found a way to keep the threat alive while still feeding their relationship and allowing it to grow, I trust that it’ll continue drawing upon its small moments of affection and conviction through the end.

What really eased my mind this episode was Ra-on’s reaction in the aftermath of the prince’s attack, when you would expect a bout of guilt and noble idiocy to rear its head. It’s the anticipated response, and a familiar one, and furthermore it’s the one that’s aligned with these good-natured characters’ hearts; I couldn’t really imagine her not feeling bad and partially responsible. But instead of withdrawing, or wallowing in self-recrimination, she asked him not to let go of her, and then I felt gratified and reassured. I’d never worried that Yeong would be the one to let go or push her away, but I’d worried all the time that Ra-on would “for his own good,” choosing to live alone with the memory of his love. That she chose to hold onto that love was hugely reassuring; if yesterday was about making promises, today was about affirming them. Really, as long as these two kids are together, I have nothing to worry about.

The directorial crew must have read about the previous "bloodless" encounters and they finally created a bloodbath!

It was indeed a bloodbath. Visually, the aftermath of the attack was done right with the casualties lying there and blood pools everywhere. I do wonder if Kim Hyung was able to catch the 10th guy who seemed to have escaped the scene.

One should never ever ever listen to Baek Ji Young if feeling sad!!

Listened to the hauntingly sad OST and was filled with fear of watching ep 12. I mean, come on! The song is called 'Love Is Over' for goodness sake.

Next safest thing to do - come to DB and lo and behold the recap is out!!

With trembling finger, line by line, mm by mm, slowly read the words with one hand over eyes and peeping through fingers, shoulders tense, brows furrowed, heart pounding!!

And.................Phew!!! There will be no heart shaped hole in my chest this week.

Can go watch now.

BUT WAIT!!!

I have to do this again next week!!

Drama continues to be trucking along, totally awesome.
I'm super excited about the bromances, they really need more screen time.

I love the main love line, but I do feel a little bit tired with Ra On being in danger all the time. Wish she would at least come up with a plan, show her smarts, or SOMETHING. 'Cause right now, she's just a pretty doll, I need her in with the action!

I almost... and it's a big 'almost'... would appreciate the extension... if that means we can spend a little bit more time allowing the story to breathe. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - the editing is a bit abrupt at times. There's alot of story to tell, but they don't have the time so we see alot of exchanges as flashbacks. They just let the audience sorta fill in the blanks, and assume things here and there.

In a way I don't mind, 'cause things are so swift. Everything in this drama - very swift, no problem drags itself out for too long. Such as - Queen suspects Ra On is a woman, she immediately takes action, Yeong comes by, things get semi-resolved, and we don't hear from the Queen for a whole other episode.

I think this show play yeong and ra on dynamic is the joseon setting when everything is about hirearchy,
but Ra on provide emotional support of Yeon since early ep, her presence balance the love he needs and her place in the palace will always be as dangerous as Yeong's place

The editing probably would be better if this is preproduced but that require a lot of investment, so I hope this drama can bring the leads into int-recognision so they can have much star power to secure a pre produced drama

What Yeong need is not just more powerful but rather, more emotional support, someone that he can rest on when things get tough because he is intelligient enough to battle the evil minister, but the emotional toil is huge as well.
He asked his father to be that pillar but the King has failed to do so. However, luckily he has Raon by his side, to reassure him when his beliefs get shaken.
Raon represents the commoners, the poor people that always need help from the higher up, from those that have power. That why she is the cloud in "moonlight drawn by clouds".
Yeong is moon, the one that has power, the one that look over everyone else and take care of them.
And Raon was a love-counselor, not some tactitian, well-educated or physically strong type so in the palace, it is hard for her to plan anything since commoner aren't used to dark evil palace wit-battle. Also, Raon strong point is her affection and connection, how she befriend with people that become helpful to her e.g. the eunuch that good with poison to help reassure Yeong. She tried her own way to help Yeong.

And pre-produced drama? Im not too sure about that because there hit and miss. DOTS was good but then the others didn't do so well since production team couldn't adjust the drama to fit viewers' preference. And even some pre-produced drama have bad editing, story-telling. So I rather a half-pre-produced if that make sense.
Like instead of only film 4-6 episodes in advanced, the drama should film at least 8-10 episodes first. Then live shoot the rest. This way, it ensures that there's less rush, more time for editing and still able to make changes accordingly to viewers response.

I love that metaphor, which totally explain why Ra-on will always be in need of Yeong's authoritative power, and he needs her emotional support.

yeah Ra-on and Yeong influence each other and I agree on that, she has her own mean in the palace battle as young's strength,

for pre-produced, I just hope it happen with this team since they are so good and extra time will help, it just some example of pre-produced drama lately didn't bring the whole potential of pre-producing , they just feel like early shoot drama imo,

a good preproduced with good writing is like british show or good chinese show, sometimes viewer can be biased and the story will flow better with extra plan

Half pre-produced is a good compromise I think. 100% pre-produced is a gamble. Once it's done, that's it. Live shoot has the benefit of being able to change if necessary based on general comments like editing, acting etc. However, it tends to wear on the actors and crew. So half-half seems to be a good way to go.

Agreed on the editing being abrupt at times. In the last episode, the cut between Yeong going to see YoDasan Teacher "for an emergency" and Yeong letting Ra-on meet her mom left me quite confused. It was explained well enough at the beginning of this episode using flashbacks, so I'll let it slide.

It seems to be a stylistic choice. I noticed that in every episode ending part we see something and then the beginning of the next episode, we get more scenes to explain how we get there. They intentionally cut away the scenes and explain it at the beginning of the next.

It may give you an abrupt feel because scenes are not sequential but follows a kind present-past narrative style where you get to understand the present later on because "omitted" scenes of the previous episode come out in the next episode.

I don't know if I am making sense but I am reminded of the storytelling style of Reply 1988 where many past scenes are omitted and and are shown toward the end to resolve the sub-plot. Case in point is the "dream kiss sequence" of Taek and Duk Seon. We were made to believe it was a dream in Episode 17 until we get to Episode 19 where we are shown additional supposedly "omitted" scenes of Episode 17 to show that it was real after all.

Thanks for the recap, JB!

Gosh!! The feels for this ep with the bromance and RO-Yeong!! I just love this show more and more. Been waiting on the bros to patch things up, and like you pointed out, I love Yeong's reaction when YS didn't even hesitate to take that blade for him. This is one instance when seeing how someone would sacrifice for you physically is so important. Anything else would just be talk. Also, it was so good to see BY showing up at the end to dispel Yeong's doubts. I know that Yeong is aware of BY's lies, but he also said to BY before that he believes BY must have reasons for withholding the truth from him. So, I'll keep believing in that and know that Yeong-BY-YS will all be a-ok in the end. They will work out their differences, no doubt.

RO-Yeong are so lovely together. I loved that scene when they're just gazing at each other at the table. And of course, the hug at the end. These two are willing to go through thick and thin together, and I truly hope that despite everything (identities being unveiled and all), they will not let go of each other's hands as promised.

I can see Head Eunuch's dagger eyes at the prime minister at trying to pass off the attack as the rebels' job. He must be thinking of ways to get back at him already. Also, he's not gonna let RO and her mom off that easily.

Master Jung and Princess continue to be amusing.

All in all, very badass as you said, and I just love the fight scene. The fight choreography is very well done for this show and it's always swift and strong.

P.S. I think YS' crimson hanbok looks really good on him. XD I knew he was gonna take out that henchman. I'm very curious what he will do next to protect the crown prince and RO while having to face his family, and he's the one who knows all the pieces of information.

I really hope that Yoonsung's display of sincerity in Yeong's well-being will somehow thaw his heart about their current relationship status (lol). Instead of words, Yoonsung came through with what he did in this episode. And yes to Kim Hyung making it in time before Yeong truly thinks that he betrayed him. What hurts other than the OTP being separated is a broken friendship. I love that despite Yeong being very much aware of Kim Hyung's lies, he still chose to trust him. That is some serious loyalty and trust that is hard to come by.

Me too. I trust that YS would ultimately do the right thing, and he knows full well where RO's heart belongs. Agree with you that a broken friendship would've been devastating to Yeong. Before RO came along, I think the only friend he had was BY since YS was not on good terms with him. And besides BY, probably only Eunuch Jang was on his side. So, BY was his only confidant and the person he can rely on all these years. I think he has seen and experienced enough to keep trusting in BY.

"I love that despite Yeong being very much aware of Kim Hyung’s lies, he still chose to trust him. That is some serious loyalty and trust that is hard to come by."

Oof, that stabbing scene is the second best scene (after the backhug) I love in today's episode. That's some serious A+ acting from Park Bo-gum, I could literally feel his heartache in that split second, like "it couldn't be you, right, Byung-yeonie?" He was confronted with Byung-yeon's possible betrayal, but he still wanted to trust in him, the normal reaction is to get angry and lash out, but Yeong only had tears in his eyes while calling out to Byung-yeon's name.

Yeong is such a psychologist! He has such a deep understanding of human behavior which aides him in dealing sensibly and effectively with the idiosyncrasies of people.

He sensed-not without basis--BY's conflicted loyalties twice and yet he does not confront him nor force him to confess. No. This Prince does something even way better...He tells BY, " You know that I trust you more than anyone else, don't you? Jjang! Perfect people handling! I am awed by it!

Not to mentioned the way he plays politics with Premier Kim and minions and outwitting them each time!

I've been refreshing the site for this recap. I swear I bawled so much while I was watching this last night. The scene where Young asked "병연이냐?" almost tore me in pieces but good thing the real Kim Hyung came and even apologized.

I love the sweet moments between Young and Raon. It's so pure and innocent but you know how mature their love is I just cannot contain my feelings I feel like I'm going to blow up soon haha.

sometimes I doubt this is PG 13/15 drama, it's likee R rated drama but they just cut the r rated scene,
not that I imagines it but the chemistry and the relationship is so mature, it's not about what they said or do but how they behave with each other, and what they thought of each other.

I can't find the word to describes it than they are the OTP,

I doubt it. Or at least, the innocent part of me highly doubts it. If Joseon times was anything like the rest of old Asian cultures, the lady would get looked down on if she's been in non-PG-13 situations before marriage. Yeong, being the perfect gentleman that he is, would know better than to taint Ra-on's image in any way.

Required fields are marked *

In a palace where all the palace maids are the king's women connotes that they don't even need to think of marriage before IT happen. Yeong is definitely a gentleman, no question asked, but he did imply that Ra-on is his woman now, that he wants to make her his first person in the new Joseon that he'd rule, meaning she'd be his wife. Even without all those formalities, I think they were confirming to each other that they're together together, if you get what I mean.

0

@maryxiah, but Yeong said that he would build a world for Ra-on. One where she can stand proud as a woman and doesn't have to be just an accessory to the king. (At least that's how I interpreted it.)

So I take that to include upholding her reputation and not treating her as just a concubine.

0

@mary Yeong also said, "In that new Joseon, you will be my first person." That sounds like a proposal to me, like he was telling her he'd make an honest woman out of her (marry her). To be fair, Yeong only has eyes for Ra-on so he thinks she'd be his queen for sure, but he doesn't know what we know, that Ha-yeon will be the crown princess.

0

Ok, I think I'm not phrasing myself well. Of course, Yeong is a gentleman and all, and he has shown that he really treasures Ra-on, but we can't rule out that he's a man and with needs, plus he's still young (with all that raging hormones). But to him, his only woman will be Ra-on and no one else, so he pretty much identified her as his wife even without all those formalities. He also told teacher Dasan he wanted to find a way to keep Ra-on by his side as a WOMAN, meaning his official wife. And we have to take the time setting into account, people in the old age don't care much about formalities, at least the commoners don't, royals have to because the family tree is quite an important thing and those things will go down the history. So, what I meant to say here, these two have identified that they are one.

0

That scene of Yeong being attacked multiple times just did it for me on the emotional level. The look on his face when he looked at his attacker thinking it's Kim Hyung and when Kim Hyung apologized for being late /TEARS

Yeong was more hurt thinking that Kim Hyung betrayed him than his stab wounds. And when Kim Hyung appeared to save him, his face was washed with relief... again not seemingly concerned with his wounds until he finally collapsed on Raon's lap. That just got me in the heart.

The attack is now in one of my fave Moonlight scenes list. Damn, the list is growing.

That got me to thinking maybe Yeong isn't that much unaffected over losing Yoon-sung as his best friend, they were at one point close, so I figured they must have a strong friendship, just not strong enough to overcome Yoon-sung's bloodline. SO, when faced with possible betrayal on Byung-yeon part, you could just see how it killed him inside, he already lost Yoon-sung, he couldn't afford to lose Byung-yeon too. When they both came to his aid, I think Yeong was beyond relieved, maybe even touched? I sincerely hope Yoon-sung and Byung-yeon can be Yeong's people too.

Eunuch Han seems to be willing to give Yeong a chance to prove himself worthy to be King before they make their move. Thank goodness that Kim Hyung showed up during the attack. At least he can tell their rebel group that they are being framed and Yeong knows fully that Kim Hyung is on his side. Once again, I love how this show manages to resolve the little conflicts (at least for the time being) without it feeling rushed.

I really want to know what is his majestic plan for the rebel, revenge? a better country for the poor?
But at least he's giving Yeong a chance even though he had witnessed 3 Kings failed.
And the glare he gave minister Kim when Kim said the rebel attack CP lolz, I just can't wait to see how he attack minister Kim.

I don't think Eunuch Han was giving Yeong a chance, rather he's using Yeong to attack the Kim clan, and when either one of them is down, the rebels will come in with the final strike and try to conquer the throne.

YES! I made that observation on a different comment too! I love how it is different (the detailing and embellishments on his jeogori are somehow brighter and more stand-out compared to the elegant subtleness on Yeong's), but that both are classy and ooze aristocratic/ nobility vibes.

I think Park Bogum carries his hanboks a wee bit better than JinYoung though. Bogum has this proud carriage and bearing when he wears them, JinYoung occasionally slouches/ shoulders turn inward when he wears them (but thankfully he doesn't slump too often). Hanboks need to have a proud, confident bearing and good height to carry them off well.

I squealed and gasped and cried, then sighed.

Oh what's that? NO PREVIEW???? ?

To ease the pain only caused of course by my selfishness and impatience, I'll have to gush about Moonlight (surprise, surprise).

It was amazeballs. It simply was. It got my bromance wish granted, it made my heart sing, it moved me, it was entertaining, thrilling, and I'll stop myself here nobody probably wants to read every synonym for amazeballs there is out there.

How is KYJ this good??? She was talking through a door and had nothing but that to look at. But I felt everything and believed everything. And that tearful gleam in her eyes in the last scene? She's a gem.
I doubt I'd ever love this drama this much if she weren't Ra On. I usually choose to watch a drama because an actor I admire a lot stars in it, and so far I've stuck it out to the end of the drama for the same reason I check it out. It's not always a painless experience.

MDBC though I was not primed for, had not discovered PBG or KYJ before watching it, and only pressed play cause there were already 4 episodes out that were subbed and I thought what the heck, why not. How lucky am I to find out about these two at the same time acting alongside each other?? ???

Lucky discovery for you. PBG and KYJ are gems indeed. And yes, KYJ is basically a sageuk veteran at the young age of 18.

As for the lack of preview, I'm not 100% sure about this but it seems there is no preview just yet because they are probably still filming. A number of scenes from EP 11 were shot only last week. That's how tight their schedule is.

0

Required fields are marked *

that is the downside of live shooting, actors can be fatigued so acting less on point, scenes are less impressive, editing can get choppy and writing can suckz. But I have my finger-crossed for this drama, hoping that it would stay awesome till the end just like it has always been up till now.

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, the live-shoot schedule seems to be really tight. When they celebrated Kim Yoo Jung's birthday on set, you could see that they were filming the Queen Kim vs Crown Prince Yeong scene on the stripping showdown, and that only last week! The production team must be incredibly pressed for time to shoot the next 6 eps, and I also really hope they can keep up the quality of the drama.

So glad there is no extension - the actors and the production crew may just flop dead if they had another 4 weeks to go.

Though, with so many unresolved issues still hanging, I wonder how they can tie all the loose strings in just 6 more episodes. Please don't let there be an open ending!

Some thoughts:

- I was expecting angst, and we got it for a bit and it's still looming in our heads. However, the friendship between the 3 guys was a nice surprise and also my favorite part of this episode. I was missing Yoon-sung these last few episodes, and he came thru at the right moment and perfect timing. Was expecting Byeong-yeon to actually betray him and totally squeed when he showed up! I love that the show constantly surprises me with reverting certain drama tropes as JB pointed out and it comes out so naturally and with just so much earnestness. Though I still have my guard up, but I'm pretty confident on where this drama is going to lead us.

- The way he was removing her gat and bride-carried her on his lap - I can't believe how intimate that sequence felt yet it was done very appropriately. How did they manage to make me blush without actually wild kissing each other is a testament to Bo-gum and Yoo-jung's acting/chemistry. Wanted to point out the library scene - I have to admit that reminded me somewhat of the dream/not-dream sequence of Taek/Deoksun, and was fully hoping that Yeong would reach over and kiss Ra-on LOL

I am seriously loving the costumes.

Love the light purple garb of Yeong in this episode. There were discussions of the fashion in Moonlight especially of Yeong in the previous recap and I just want to share this lovely website that documented every single outfit PBG wore down to the hair accessories. For some reason I couldn't get the comment to post so you can check out eukybearlovesdrama website (fashion crown prince Lee Yeong)

Apparently each outfit was made specially for him even the small silver crown holding the topknot. I thought it was the same or he at least had like 2-3 to wear in rotation. Love the attention to detail.

And Yoonsung is so rocking his garbs too. Love today's costume.

Yoon Sung really rocked his wine red hanbok in this episode. I've always liked Yoon Sung's hanboks with their little detailings on his jeogori (the detailing is a lot more colourful and stand out compared to Yeong's detailing).

My only gripe is the fact that we are still seeing Ra On in her eunuch garb or in men's hanbok! Seriously, Yoo Jung looks so lovely in female hanbok I wish we could see more of her in it. Only 3 weeks left of the show!

I vaguely remember reading somewhere a while back that the PD mentioned that there will be more scenes of Ra On in female hanbok in the show later. This was, I think, when the first few episodes started airing so it was early days. Now it is episode 12 and poor Ra On is still in male garb.

Hoping the PD will make good on this and we will get a chance to see more of Kim Yoo Jung in female hanbok in the next 6 episodes. Though now that Ra On has elected to stay beside the Crown Prince instead of running away at the end of this episode, we may have to endure more of the same for now.

Unless Ra On's mother, or Chief Eunuch Han, or Yeong himself does something to take her out of the palace soon.

"The PD told TV reporters, “Up until the second episode, the show gives off a comic and lighthearted vibe, but after that it will become more serious.”

When asked about Park Bo Gum and Kim Yoo Jung, he responded, “Park Bo Gum is a smart actor. In the beginning, he emphasizes a fun, comic feel, but later he will be showing a new kind of image. Kim Yoo Jung is someone who is known for her acting, and has a lot of experience. Though she looks cute in her male traditional clothes, she will be later showing a more feminine image.""

Oyy.. PD-nim... where is the 'more feminine image' you promised? 3 little scenes in female hanboks definitely do not cut it! >_<

I'm absolutely loving that purple garb! What colour is that...lavender? I don't know but the moment I saw it, I felt like I need to have one exactly like that though I have no idea where to find it. But gawd, must they stain THAT with blood? I mean, they could've chosen other outfit. LOL!

Even the novel author said she doesn't know for certain while watching this drama, and she rather watch it without comparing to the novel

Yoon-sung can't become the king because his not royal blood. But I don't know why I have this crazy idea, thinking that they could fake that Yoon-sung is Yeong's distant relative and he could rule as King Heonjong (who's supposed to be Yeong's son), the Kim clan could support him to the throne. He has the face of a great king so I'm hoping he accomplishes all the things Yeong couldn't, because Yeong'd eventually choose to live with Ra-on and leave the palace.

I doubt Yoon Sung will accept that development sitting down. He had the chance to ascend to the throne in Episode 12 when Yeong was at a disadvanatge during the attack but YS put his life on the line by actually preventing Yeong from becoming fatally wounded...remember the iconic sword blade handling which resulted in his hand becoming bloodied?

That was a shining moment of YS for me... it symbolized his choice of friendship over lust for power.

They really showed how weak-minded King Sunjo is, because in reality he was a weak-willed king. From the day he became king, he was already a puppet. It's such a shame that he's the son of the visonary King Jeongjo and CP Hyomyeong seemed to have inherited his grandfather's brilliance, but...unfortunately, his life was quite too short to fully show his potential.

0

Required fields are marked *

Sunjo was barely 11 years old when he became king. He was actually intelligent and reform minded like his father.
His grandmother was ruling on his behalf because he was too young. Meanwhile his wife's family amass their power behind the prime minister and got rid of Sunjo's supporters.

By the time he was old enough to rule, the court was full of the Kim clan's people controlling the court and opposing him.

As for Yeong, it was much easier for him to rule because he was from the Kim clan himself. He had all the support he could get.

0

Yeong was from the Kim clan in history, but not in this show though. It's hinted that his Mom the late Queen was harmed by the Kim clan and he's doing all he can to keep them in check here.

It's interesting to note that the attack on Yeong in this episode is the King's exact nightmare, and probably something the King had to face ten years ago: the sight of his beloved in danger and the helplessness when he's caught off guard, not knowing if he could trust his closest friend. I wonder if after this, Yeong will have more empathy with the poor King, and somehow be able to help him out of his hole or deal with his fear better.

Sigh, Yeong's son seemed to have to follow his grandpa's same fate: taking the throne as a child only to be controlled by the Kim clan. He also died at a young age like the historic Yeong. I'm really curious if any of that will get addressed or re-imagined in Moonlight.

0

I can understand why they'd make him such a weak and cowardly king, because if he could be the least bit wise and supportive, Yeong wouldn't have had to act as regent for him. I pretty much ignore him, but Eunuch Han wins best reaction hands down in that scene, he kept shooting dagger eyes to Minister Kim.

This would mitigate yeong's doubt about one and will help him regain trust in the other. I really want them to be friends again.

I feel like yoon sung is an underrated character. I think he was made a second lead to justify his need to protect ra on more than for him to be a potential love rival. But I think his feelings towards ra on are going to change in that he ll always protect her but his romantic interest in her is going to subdue and he is going to actively choose to be with the prince. I hope this happens.

Just a minor thing, why do everybody just leave evidence lying around? Like ra on's hanbok, byung yeon's bloodied clothes, mask and the kim minister's book. But, I guess its because of the time. People didn't know how to cover up their wrongdoings or things that might result in them getting punished or killed properly?

I don't get about the lying around,
ra-on hanbok and byung yeon clothes are placed in their room, I think they just didn't think someone would check on it suddenly, it's the repentance hall, no one go there and both of them lived there,

the books are there for the crown prince to find it and they leave it to know if the prince has the guts to used the book as evidence

I like that the show makes us truly understand the lead and invested in them but when I try to think of others character, spin-off based on them is not a bad idea,

we can have yoon song who become traveller and stayed in one village, helping there and meet someone who has crush to him, he didn't love her at 1st cause he still thinking about his past memory but after time, he grew fond of her and he fights the corrupt official there,
the girl can be insecure at 1st cause his 1st love is "the queen", kinda like arang & the magistrate but with human, and the backstory of love is on yoon sung,

Don't you think that our OTP more than compensate for the lack of physical intimacy with their "KILLER GAZES AND STARES" and their deep, insightful, soulful, tender conversations? Not to mention their love-filled gestures and actions toward the other? Their "emotional connection or bond is always fever-pitch and is always on an all-time high leaving my heart full and content.

Yes! Thank goodness there's no awkward forced closeness (except for episode 1 when they were in the underground trap, maybe), and no terrible fish eyed kisses. I read somewhere that the age of consent in Korea is 13, so maybe the culture and mindset might be different there. Anyone familiar with Korean culture who could shed some light?

I just mentioned it because there was another actor (93er Lee Min Ho) who said he had a crush on her when she was 13.

0

@Apple I think SK drama culture is strict with many scenes especially.when the actor is young,
it kinda different with their movie culture, especially with public channel , that's why hot kisses rarely come from public channel,
KYJ already getting criticism for being too young for park bo gum as co star before this drama aired, many comment still mention the uncomfortable feeling for having her in the loveline , and the drama also get criticize for her bandage scene in ep 1 for being too much,
So imo, it wasn't really related to the real world consent but the public drama culture when they have many censorship and limitation. As I remember, the knife in W also get censored.

0

@Apple 13?! That's crazy. But I do believe that Korean are still rather conservative about this subject.

I took a deep breath before hitting play to watch this episode, the preview yesterday made me so nervous I didn't know what to expect other than the doom has come, but Thank god we're safe for now!

I liked Yoon-sung's character before but after this episode I love him. We know he's conflicted, he has his Kim family issue with the prince and there is Ra-on too but when it comes to his friendship with Yeong, he still wants to become the person he talked about, he wants to be a reliable friend to him and the way he jumped to rescue him proves that he'd do it over and over again without any regard to the danger he'd put himself in and I love him for that!

As for Byung-yun, the moment he slashed down that guy and showed up I cried, I had no doubt that he'd show up, I knew no matter what his leaders may say he still considered Yeong his friend and protecting him his first priority but I just couldn't help it, I cried buckets! Yeong's fear of being betrayed by him was heart wrenching, he's the only person he trusts in the palace and seeing that he's not what he thought him to be was just so sad, slashing the assassin felt like he was "slashing" the fear, making Yeong know that he still is by his side, I just want them to be friends again, all three of them together, like Javabeans said with a song and a dance and a secret handshake and everything! Please make that happen, closing my eyes and clasping my hand, starting the prayer!

I'm so glad that Ra-on kept her promise, she came back to him even if she now knows that she's Hong Kyung-rae's daughter, she made a choice and she choose not to be a noble idiot, I don't know what will happen if she tells him this but I want her to and then I want Yeong to get together with Yoon-sung and Byung-yun to try and come up with an idea that will blow the bad guys' socks off, LOL!

Thanks Javabeans for the recap.

So much has been said about the OTP romance, and the action scenes and the bromance, I won't re-hash it all again.

But I just wanna give a little love to the side-love story between Young Master Jung and Princess Myeongeun! While they have only a little screen time, I really to love their interactions in each episode! Aww... Young Master Jung is such a sweetie-pie!

In addition to my wish for a happy ending for our main OTP and BrOTP, I too would like a happy ending for this little couple!

Yeong should give his blessing/permission because Master Jung turns out to be a really good man for his little sister. He was protective at first thinking that Master Jung is such a loser of a guy (which if we look at it closely, HE was the one who fell in love with Raon pretending as Master Jung. The very guy he did not want for his sister. LOL).

To be fair, Ra-on was kinda fishy (couldn't blame her, she thought they were gay couple) and she left him in the hole, it's no wonder why Yeong wouldn't want that kind of guy for his sister. I absolutely adore that part of Yeong, he's so protective of his sisters. But they do owe it to Master Jung and Princess Myung-eun couple, because these two inadvertently introduced them, and quite possible be the one reuniting them in the end, because we know how this drama loves parallelism.

BADASS DEFINITELY. my fav episode so far, others are great too nonetheless.

I had to write about Yoonsung at the moment he's facing Yeong to warn him, related to Raon. I realized 1st he sounds like he's concerned about Raon, but as he goes on, doesn't you think that he actually care more about Yeong's safety? Total bromance.

And my fav heart-tugging moment of Yeong seeing ByungYeon as masked man.. the moment BY actually appears..i was literally going OMG Thank God..just like JB.

PBG & KYJ, 2 hours a week is definitely not enough for you two on screen. The romance just make me giddy like stupid at my workplace

I knew we love this ep and I might be the minority cause my favorite moment is when yoon sung slashed the letter messenger and the sigh,
I meam he sighed, he just sighed.. god that moment I was like
" clear the road , we have a badass here"
if he didn't sighed, I might be just okay,

I've seen a lot of action movie and cruel saeguk but this is one of perfect depiction of ruthless killing than the smile or laughed after it. Joseon is a hard time and I see why he did it, but the added layer for him just ..awesome.
The sighed is like
"I didn't believe I have to kill you, so unnecessary" or
"yup, one down, tired" or
" he should have got the clue" or
" aah I need to washed my little pointer"
aaaaaah

How could, after princess carry her, let her sit in his lap, and having an intense staring contest with her, then nothing happened?
I know that kim yoo jung is a minor, but they tortured us to the max with the insane chemistry. Is it really possible for someone to survive from park bogum's charm? If I were yoo jung, I'd die. I'd surely do.

Anyway, did anyone realize the changing in the cinematography tone this episode? Well, everything has always been shot beautifully, but started from yoonsung's late night visit, the colour of the screen changing. Even the movement of the camera. It is shifted to the muted tone to match the battle scene. It is so beautifully done. I love it.

I've decided two things this week:

1. Henceforth, Bogum shall be known as my One True Prince Charming. (Or, for brevity's sake, My Prince.)

2. Yoon-Sung becomes a much more interesting person (not to mention looks amazing) when he's wearing red and/or black.

Oh, and 3. Friendship is on the mend! Hurrah! I can't wait until they're all three actively working together.

I legitimately wondered if they might use this event to fake Yeong's death as many have predicted, but then I realized it was way too early for that. I feel so conflicted, because I need these lovebirds to be together forever, but it would feel like such a tragedy for Joseon to lose Yeong as a king, especially if he's still alive in the end. I don't see how he could choose to walk away from it all -- and now I'm not sure Yoon-Sung would be a good choice to potentially switch him out for (he's frightening, at times) -- but I don't see how there'll be a happy ending if he doesn't. But I trust what the show has done so far, so I really believe I won't be disappointed in the end -- it's just agonizing (though wonderfully so) to wait for it.

i have to say though I'm getting pretty tired of Ra-on always being rescued. And where is the spunky hong sam nom gone to? lately she's either crying or trying not to. I mean cmon'. She was brought up disguised as a boy, shouldn't it follow that the more she should have learned how to defend herself?

While i was all athrilled when the fighting was raging on, I wasn't so thrilled to see her sitting in fear by the corner just watching Yeong about to be struck by a fatal blow. I would have loved it if she tried to do something, anything to prevent that! We're talking true love right? That would not have even been noble idiocy. I know it would have frightened any dainty lady but she wasn't living like one. She was living by the seat of her pants what with all those bad guy creditors hounding her and all. I keep looking for the sassy, impulsive and cheery girl we saw in the first episodes, sigh. Most often than not, this happen in kdramas- when the otp falls in love the heroine, rather than sparkle and bloom seems to wilt esp when the going gets tough.

I don't mean this as an upfront against the actress KYJ because heaven knows I love her. First time I saw her in the oft frustrating The MOon that Embraces..(I wish she could've played the adult character too). I am just protesting how her character has been written in the later episodes. She could be more!

Now PBG this is the first i see of him and I am impressed. His character is well written and I love Yeong, his playfulness, his moral compass, bravery and how deeply he loves. Now i wish I could see the same way Raon is being portrayed, maybe it will come in the coming episodes esp now that she knows who her father was. I wish she would stop being the damsel in distress and develop a backbone, truly.

I love this drama, I just wish they'd find more to do for the female lead. She has so much going on and the potential of her character, argh there's so much more she could be. There's a reason why my favorite disney movie ever is Mulan because my pet peeve is a constant damsel in distress. Cmon writers!!!

But the rest of the plot, the cinematography, the tight narrative and twists are great. I love this drama, not so original but still very good. Cant wait for Tues and Weds when the subs are out!

To be fair, Ra-on still snarks at Yeong whenever she can (that scrunchy face she made when he was telling her to come back before sunset made me chuckle). I don't think she's lost her sass. It's just that being her episode 1 self seems out of place given the challenges she's facing in the palace.

I'd argue that given her slight build and height, Ra-on developed skills to escape rather than to fight. She was only able to best Yeong when he wasn't looking, and even then it was to escape. That kind of survival skill is kind of hard to use when you're in the palace, and Ra-on doesn't even want to leave. She's no badass, sword-wielding warrior and she was never presented as such. What she has is her resilience and inner strength, and I've been seeing a lot of that from her lately. I'm looking forward to how she steps up now she knows she's the rebel leader's daughter.

Please! Her damsel in distress is not due to her recklessness. I like that. Please remember her rank in the palace is a lowly junior rank eunuch. So it is safer for her to live below the radar there.

And if a queen or an official envoy wanted to mess with a lowly eunuch, Ra On can't do much to escape their clutch.

Even the seemingly charming and harmless Princess can order a eunuch to be beaten and she can even kill him if she so wish it. And she will not suffer any consequences becoz she is a royal.

"Her damsel in distress is not due to her recklessness."

Well, some are. Like her falling into the lake, and organizing the puppet show, which made her as easy target for the queen. But, most of her troubles came when Yeong took an interest in her and started behaving differently around her, everyone assumed he's gay and some realized Ra-on is his weakness. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the in-need-of-rescue-situations she's often in, because I find it believable that she'd get into all these troubles partly because of Yeong too, it's just that most people aren't thrilled that it's becoming a routine in every episode. I hope Ra-on grow a backbone in later episode and be the one that holds onto Yeong, because I've been seeing a lot of sacrifices made on Yeong's part, but barely on Ra-on's part.

Required fields are marked *

I dont get it. What sacrifice did Yeong made on her behalf. At this moment he is still the crown prince. He get what he wish i.e to keep her close to him. Remember she wanted to leave the palace as soon as she get there. But Yeong keeps thwarting her plan. So most probabily he felt sort of responsible for her well being in his home.

Since he started this relationship he is responsible for what happen to both of them. He knew the risk to Ra On. If expose she maybe sentence to death. To me risking one very own life to make someone else happy is a huge sacrifice and not a trivial matter. And obviously that made the Prince cherished her more.

0

Umm, I guess I didn't word it correctly. If you noticed everytime Ra-on is in trouble, Yeong would stick his neck for her even after knowing it's a trap. In one scene, he acknowledged it by saying to the queen "I took the bait (Ra-on) that you throw at me." And Yeong risked his image as the crown prince (knowing the ministers were watching left and right, ready to pounce at the every mistake) to save Ra-on, a mere eunuch. Like how he kneeled in front of the king for Ra-on, threatened the Chinese ambassador to release Ra-on, saved her from the queen repeatedly, refuse the political marriage that could secure his position as the crown prince (not that I want him to marry Ha-yeon), and now getting stabbed because he wanted to save Ra-on. Sure Ra-on did her fair share for Yeong as well, but what I want is for her to realize they're together in this, that she has to fully support him as his partner, and most importantly keep her promise of not letting go.

0

Ok, I realized I haven't answer all of your question.

The first time Ra-on wanted to leave the palace is because she entered the palace in false pretense (pretending to be a man) and they'd have a round of examination to prove that the eunuch trainees are completely...um...eunuch. That's why she wanted to run away before being found out. Meeting Yeong was the inevitable coincidence but important for our story because that's how they met again and get entangled. The second time Ra-on wanted to run away because she realized she feels the same for Yeong and couldn't answer his feeling knowing she committed grave sin by pretending to be a man (punishable by law, maybe even deserve death sentence since she basically deceive the king), she doesn't just risk her own life, but basically Yeong's as well, because Yeong would have done his outmost to keep her alive, and she knows it.

Starting a relationship requires two to tango. Yeong isn't the only one responsible for Ra-on, she needs to do her part as well. I'm happy that Yeong truly cherish Ra-on and willing to do everything to ensure her happiness, even if it involves risking his life, I just don't want to think that it's given simply because he loves her. So now I wanted Ra-on to see how Yeong has been actively striving to keep their relationship safe and intact, and know knowing her identity, I wish SHE decides that she wants to be with Yeong as well, and find ways to keep this relationship, as did Yeong, whom we have seen doing that.

0

Umm...sorry this has become such a long ass response, I realized I contradicted myself in a couple of posts.

I do think that Ra-on's situation as a girl pretending to be a guy, a low rank eunuch, as well as Yeong's protectiveness over her make her prone to be a damsel in distress. While I find it believable that she'd get into all those troubles, I don't necessarily like it that she has to be saved everytime, because we have seen her pluck in the earlier episodes, i.e the part where she was almost castrated (even though she had none) and she was quick-witted enough to get the officer drunk so as not to be exposed as a girl.

And I believe in a relationship, Yeong doesn't have to be the one pulling all the weight (even though it's pretty gentleman of him), because we want a rootable (is that even a word?) hero and heroine. I do believe that having Ra-on around makes Yeong a better man, she completes him in a way life partner do, and she's his emotional boost, life's advisor, as well as anchor. So far, we've only seen Yeong making active decisions to turn around their tragic fate (except he doesn't know she's the daughter of the rebel leader), now that the big secret is let out to Ra-on first (instead of Yeong), I'm hoping she'll pull through and make a better decision (although I fully trust she would) for them, not to run or decide being apart because they're much more stronger together. Ra-on asking Yeong not to let go of her hand was a big decision on her part, something we wouldn't have expected her to do, but when she did, I feel like it's a big step forward for our girl, and I want her not to take a step backward after this, but charge forward with the same blind faith that Yeong has for them.

Am I making sense?

0

*** maryxiah
Cant find the reply button under your comment below.

Yes you are making a complete sense. I got u. For the past 12 episodes we have witnessed Yeong running around to save her.

So from now on it would be good if they show how Ra On reacts to the revelation that she is the rebel leader's doter. She knew the Kims are trying their darnest to get rid of Yeong once and for all and how corrupted is the Kims clan. So now she can use her rebel gang to overpower the Kims. We know she gonna get at least one backing from one of the rebel member ie BY. Next she will need to convince the head eunuch. It would be fun to see Ra On outwit the evil Kims at their on game.

0

Yeah, we probably reach the limit of quoting so no reply button. I've said this a couple of times before but I disagree having the rebels help Yeong or form some sort of alliance with Yeong, because what they really want is to overthrow the king, which is betrayal on Yeong's part and treason. I hope they find ways to make the conflict unravel neatly, because we certainly don't want this show to fall through in the end.

Im just gona copy and paste what I have replied to another comment here:
"Raon represents the commoners, the poor people that always need help from the higher up, from those that have power. That why she is the cloud in “moonlight drawn by clouds”.
Yeong is moon, the one that has power, the one that look over everyone else and take care of them.
And Raon was a love-counselor, not some tactitian, well-educated or physically strong type so in the palace, it is hard for her to plan anything since commoner aren’t used to dark evil palace wit-battle. Also, Raon strong point is her affection and connection, how she befriend with people that become helpful to her e.g. the eunuch that good with poison to help reassure Yeong. She tried her own way to help Yeong."
And I feel that it's better for her sit at the corner in the fight scene rather than throwing herself out in the danger to help because her character is not someone good in physical battle. And if she get injured, that would be even push her further away from yeong as her cover would be blown.

Couldn't agree more. Writing Ra-on's character different to hers in this drama would make the story completely not so moonlight. If we want a badass woman warrior, let's hope there would be another drama maybe with the word 'sunlight' in its title. Would Sunlight Blocked by Clouds do?

I loves CP no doubt on that?, but this way too egnimatic "CP can't be with Ra On", needs a new reason like WHY exactly can't they be together?? Cos Ra On Dad's was the rebel lead but exactly what happen that can cause an ill fate to both of our lovebirds....
And somehow I found our heroin is not doing much of herself lately... we saw her written love strings and being cupids then dance off her Cinderella moment but what's next? What is it that makes her worthy of CP? Now that her friendship becomes relationship? Woori CP burdens is too obvious for her to be oblivious and just being bystander wallflower girlfriend. It just it feels like her character is not showing much these days? Not even her desperation? I applause the ending of that teary happy face with mixed up feelings... Somehow she can be more to this and a whole lot more?

Well if her identity is revealed, then she and her mother will be executed for being family of the rebel's leader. And if raon and yeong want to officially marry, people will dig up her history no matter what because a crown princess need to be from clean background.
Raon is worthy for CP because he needed most is emotional support, a person that stays by his side no matter what (the king failed to do so even though he promised CP). Even in early episodes, the dinner scene where raon offered yeong the chicken leg, saying that she would sooth his broken heart with her rich heart.
Her character is not a badass person that can fight, or super smart at wit-battle, she is just a commoner, that would be helpless at most times when dragged into power battle

I'm not sure where you got the part where she wanted to run away? She has been firm in staying with Yeong ever since their mermaid conversation in episode 10. Sure she encouraged him to go ahead with the political marriage (because honestly seeing him without his own ministers is disheartening), but with the condition that she will remain with him.

I'm afraid that she'll waver after the revelation that she's Hong Gyeong-nae's daughter, but that's understandable since that's huge. Her father's identity could get her and her mother sold off as slaves or killed. Yeong can't go directly against his father if the king issues a royal decree.

now that you mentioned that she encouraged him to get married politically, I'm fine with that suggestion because during that time a CP can't just have 1 wife, he's bound to marry more (political or for more children) so though it's breaking her heart, she knows she kinda have to share someday later on lolz and she knows she cant stop the marriage anyway, rather then asking for yeong to love only her and her alone, she thinks about his position

0

Joseon era already established as place when connection and hierarchy mean everything,

I wished Ra-on could do something badass but then I realised it wasn't her and her just 19 old girl who just find a stable place in the palace and unknowingly placed herself as the target of people,

Even if she is not the rebel's daughter, her being the woman Yeong's loves already make her vulnerable in Joseon, since she has no backup whatsoever, just like Yeong's mother, the queen that the king's loved but she has no one and she will always become the target,

It's the obvious answer for people who want to harm Yeong that Ra-on is the linked off that,
if they are the older character, like 25 something, my advice is too break up if they didn't have any power, but they are so young and brave to challenge and even with ra-on stay by his side already an accomplishment for me,

I saw ra-on and yeong relationship like the married couple, they take role to secured the purpose they both agree on, yeong will face the world and ra-on is the his backup, someone that put the most faith in him,

gosh . . . this is youth saeguk but their mentality is way mature,

I take offense at calling Ra-on a wallflower because she's not. She's an ordinary person with a lot of heart, and if anything she's been blooming these last few episodes. She's no longer the scruffy street urchin of episode 1, but a young woman who is in love and unafraid to show it. I love how she's so comfortable with Yeong, and how unashamed of expressing her feelings for him.

Sure she does get into trouble a lot, but that's a drawback of living in the palace and slumming with a rather unpopular prince. She acquits herself well, staying strong and enduring despite her problems. She's actually the practical one in this pairing, encouraging Yeong to be fight on and assuring him that she will stay with him despite the looming marriage.

Blood has been spilled! And it was done even more stylishly than usual, if possible. :D I felt the tension in every shot from the moment RO was pulled back and damn did the awesome violin bgm kick the pace up a notch.

- Yesss the boys working in tandem is all I ever wanted in life
- YS knows about RO! Loving his floral maroon hanbok, especially compared to LY’s new bib getup (I’m sorry but)
- Bogummy oppa was a revelation when LY imagined that BY was about to strike the killing blow. His teary, wounded eyes were everything!
- The corrupt Kim minister dismissed by LY put on the weirdest breathless-but-outraged voice ever I couldn’t even
- I just want someone to rip off the bandaid and tell LY about RO’s identity because it probably won’t make much of a difference to him anyway.

Thank you! Your gifs are all so lovely!

Perhaps at the end of the Show (in 3 weeks time!), you could post all your gif links from each episode all under 1 comment, pretty please?
It would be so so so helpful to find them all under one spot at the end, instead of having to hunt for them in the comments section for each episode. Just a little suggestion for your kind consideration! ^_^

If you don't mind, please remind me (leave a comment on DB) if I forget in the last week- my brain hasn't been the same since giving birth XD

GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! this episode was roller coaster. From the fluffiness at the beginning to those blood everywhere in the end.
First, this is my very first experience of watching drama with some clues that hasn't dropped yet until ep 12. I MEAN WE ALL KNOW HAYEON IS THE CROWN PRINCESS HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SUFFER MORE. Like we all know the angst is coming, yet it's not coming, so it hurts so much. And lastly, we all know, that... Yeong is Crown Prince Hyomyeong which named Crown Prince instead of King for a reason. AND WE ALL KNOW HE IS GOING TO DIE YOUNG KSJNCLISNEFIUVSEUN. Why am I watching this again?

By the way, anybody wondered about the timelines in this series?

At the start of the show, Queen Kim was newly pregnant - her morning sickness and such sort of hints at her being in her first trimester.

She was clearly a lot more advanced in her pregnancy during the Ra On stripping showdown. And then Yeong got severely injured during the fight in his palace and next thing we see is him all hale and hearty. Surely such a recover would take at least a month or two? Sword slashes on the back and being stabbed at the front is no small injury.

So, based on this timeline, surely it would be about time for Queen Kim to give birth? Would her producing a girl give added impetus to the Crown Prince's marriage to Jo Ha Yeon?

What do you all think?

0
15
reply

Required fields are marked *

She should be in the late second trimester/early third trimester by now.

A princess shouldn't threaten Yeong's position but a prince (especially a Kim prince) could dethrone him. Hence, the Queen's desire to have a son at all costs, even if it means giving away her natural-born daughter. Yeong's position as Crown Prince would be strengthened if he'd ally with Minister Jo (and presumably the officials loyal to Jo) by marriage. The risk of being dethroned by the Kims and replaced by a Kim prince would be lessened because officials loyal to Yeong would oppose the move.

Required fields are marked *

Thanks for your input.

I was thinking that even if the Queen gave birth to a princess, Yeong will still be under threat. Back in the earlier episodes, the younger minister Kims expressed concerns over the gender of the baby and what if it was a girl. They then said that if the baby were a princess, it was even more important for them to control the Crown Prince before he properly ascends the throne (guess they want another puppet King like his Yeong's dad).

So, there will be a lot of pressure for Yeong to marry a Kim lady so that the Kims will be able to consolidate their power even through Yeong.

And in order to stop that, Yeong will have no choice but to marry Minister Jo's daughter to break up the power the Kims have over the court.

So, having a princess could also expedite Yeong's marriage to Ha Yeon to prevent the Kims from gaining more power.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

This is of course assuming that Queen Kim did not succeed in the baby swap, or that the pregnant servant girl also gave birth to a baby girl (hah, wouldn't that be a complete foil to her plans?).

I guess either outcome i.e. new Kim prince or new Kim princess, there will be added pressure for Yeong to marry Ha Yeon before he gets swamped by the Kims in their attempt to maintain and gain power.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Well, the Kims are attempting to control him now. A princess wouldn't necessarily make that much worse. A prince, though, would be a different matter since they can just replace him.

Either way, he does have to find political allies in his fight against the Kims, and the fastest way to do that is by marrying into a high-ranking family.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think the swapped babies will probably be the game-changer that sets the royal wedding in motion. King Sunjo had an unknown prince after Yeong, it is said unknown probably because he didn't survive his childhood, so taking that into account, the queen will probably give birth to a girl and swap her for a boy to pose a threat to Yeong, which in turn will force Yeong to join hand with Minister Jo by way of marriage. I'm not thrilled with that idea but it certainly fits the story for Yeong's marriage.

And I was bummed we skipped some time and jumped straight to Yeong's full recovery, I was half expecting to see how Ra-on would take care of him during his recovery and maybe get a lovey dovey scene one or two.

the palace rule and the waiting period is so real for the drama, they take extra precaution cause crown prince is almost dead and here we are asking if this can be more fantasy and screw the rule . ...lol

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I was also a bit disappointed that we jumped to Yeong's recovery so quickly but on further reflection, there would have been very little to tell since he would be mostly laid up and as Sancheezy mentioned below, there was probably greater restrictions on his access since he was in a vulnerable state.

But the timeskip did feel a little choppy... I wonder if it could have been done a little bit better/ smoother. But then, the production team were really pressed for time so that was probably the best they could do.

I felt the same about the timeskip... If only it was edited better. But, well, I'll stick to the end.

Perhaps next episode is the return of the queen and hayeon because that marriage has been the talk of town for few episodes already

Required fields are marked *

I really want the wedding to be over and done with. We all know it's going to happen and everybody is talking about it. As much as I love the maturing bond Yeong and Raon have shared the past episodes, its strength needs to be tested. We have two immediate hurdles so far, Raon's identity and that Hayeon. And after that, Raon being a non-nobility.

0

Me too. But I'd like to see or know the how-s and why-s that the marriage needs to happen (because Yeong is clearly opposed to it right now), hence the speculation in this comment. ^^

Required fields are marked *

I wonder if there will be a post-marriage timeskip. The real CP ruled as regent for three years before he died, and we're barely a year into Yeong's regency right now.

0

The timeline does not follow a day to day basis at every turn. Surely we skipped some weeks and whatnot to get the story moving as well. I think the Queen will give birth soon and I hope for her sake she can pull off her plan of switching babies with the court lady.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yup, am aware that we do not follow the drama on a day-to-day basis. Like 'W: Two Worlds', the show moves according to events and there can even be time-skips of months. Which is why I was trying to ascertain where we are now in terms of time and was using Queen Kim's pregnancy as a marker or point of reference.

Based on the advancement of her pregnancy and also Yeong's healing after the attack, I would venture to say that probably the Queen is into her 3rd and final trimester i.e. 6 to 9 months, and is due to give birth soon.

From this basis, we can see that the show has been played out over more or less a 6 month period (give or take a month or two!). Wow, lots of things have happened in such a short period of time!

Required fields are marked *

haha. Regarding Prince Yeong's injuries-
If we were in real life and modern times, Prince Yeong would have been wheeled into hospital for emergency surgery, STAT! lol. that was a sword stab wound!! (exploratory laparotomy immediately!)

But you know... some magical ancient healing and he can recover without surgery. XD

But certainly a lot of time passed- which is why Ra On was so anxious and worried and why the Back Hug Scene was extra moving- she didn't know how he was for really long and the relief of being next to him and held by him must have been huge. My heart really still twinges when I see that scene because it is so moving. (and I saw it a lot to gif it!)

Just to confirm, this drama is not written by the Gu Family Book writer, right? Yeong and Ra On are gonna get their happy ending, right? I'm not going to see some weird time jump 400 years later?

This episode was really good. YS stole the show. I hope Yeong starts trusting him more after this. I know the series is limited on time but I thought they did a good job with the action sequence.

I want to see more of RO though. I feel like her character is not moving much and all of the plots is driven by Yeong's character and it's all from his perspective.

I think RO will ask Yeong permission to leave. So I think initially Yeong will fight it but then realize that RO can't stay there so ultimately gives it to her.

I don't think she's gonna do that for a second time, this show has been amazing thus far, so I believe they won't give us a repetitive scene. Ra-on already asked Yeong's permission once to be freed from the palace in episode 9 when she refused to accept Yeong's feeling.

Based on the scenes shown in episode 12, I think that physical intimacy is a foregone conclusion. It's really incredible how they can bring that feeling across without even even kissing. It's funny how the viewers really want to actually see the OTP doing it on screen, but because they keep it chaste, despite being so suggestive (albeit very tastefully), the imagery and feelings linger long after the show is over. I kind of wonder if there will be a baby at the end of this drama - but then KYJ is so young, I don't know how Korean viewers will take that.

If it wasn't for Yoo-jung, I really wanted to see Yeong's son make an appearance in this drama, but I don't see how they can do it without touching the age appropriate issue. International viewers might not mind if physical intimacy was shown in today's episode, but Koreans do. They even made a big deal out of Yoo-jung's chest binding scene in the earliest episode. I think that's why the production team decided to make them stare at each other longingly and leave the rest to our imagination.

Usually, pre-military Korean actors are not very muscular and a bit lanky (like most of the Korean idol singers, for example) but PBG is really "meaty." LOL. I don't know another word. He's not super muscular but he's substantial. Obviously being a swimmer probably helped achieve that. I watched Youth Over Flowers Africa and in there, he took off his shirt to jump in the shower in one episode and I had the same thought - wow, his body is just "meaty." Haha.

Although it's exciting to see Ra-on return to the Prince at the end and most people are thinking she is choosing him over her mother, I'm afraid that the love shining in her eyes means that she's back to tell him she loves him so much that she cannot risk his life again and he must let her go - for now. She watched him almost being killed in front of her. This might be the first noble idiocy that actually makes sense - and we have 6 more episodes to watch them longing for each other. He gets married because he is forced to. The rebels do their thing and Ra-on plots how to save him from afar. Then they are back together...somehow. History records that this prince died at age 20 and that is the greatest mystery of this drama for me. How are they going to handle that? As long as there is completion of a satisfactory sort - and nothing like the end of Shine or Go Crazy - I will be happy. This drama is so excellent in every way I cannot imagine the PD and writer letting us down. THIS will be the sageuk I recommend to all friends who are hesitant to try one out. It's so perfect!!

yeah this is saeguk I'll recommended to a lot of people too,

I think the comeback is a nice ending cause even if she chooses to leave, they'll talk,
it's not a coward move like being disappeared suddenly since we saw her thinking practical from time to time, like stop being a eunuch, saving him with the dance, saying ok to the marriage and worrying over people who suspicious of her,
she is always been like that, but once again, at least they talk and give each other perspective since last time,

Yeoung leaves without listening to her explanation, they need to talk about their needs, yeong always worry about her and he needs to stay low too,
and she'll always face the same danger with yeong when they are together but since killing a crown prince is a crime, the closest eunuch would be a big blow for him , especially if they knew , she is her lover,

@maryxiah - It's called Yakgwa, or Korean Honey Cake/ Cookie. It is made from flour, honey and sesame oil and then fried and dipped in honey. It will usually be topped with nuts like pine nuts. Problem with Ra On staying with Yeong in the palace, it means her character won't be able to do much than be Yeong's support. Kim Yoo Jung needs to do more than that.

0
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

it's true in practical but whenever I watch this, the show and Yeong always emphasised how strong Ra-on presence for Yeong is,
Yeong literally has no one to calm his heart and Ra-on can do it, so it another thing that support's Yeong in things that he needs the most atm, the mental support, someone besides him that will smile , thought and endure things together,

when yeong can stop worrying over her since she already said she wants to leave or he needs to marry and she can secure herself outside a palace, a separation is can be an option imo,
Yeong can give Byung-Yeon but who'll protect him then?
so I think Ra-on staying is better for everyone than leaving at this moment,

0

Required fields are marked *

Yeong confides in Raon and asks for her wisdom. I love that she is somehow his adviser on certain things because Raon knows so much about life, especially that of the people since she is one of them. I just love that Yeong learns so much from here. That alone is a support to Yeong. Raon need not be a fighter or whatnot.

0

Required fields are marked *

This is so true. We were shown a couple of occasions where Yeong confides in Ra-on and asks for her opinion, and she has become such a huge emotional boost for him too. They complete each other in a way a life partner would. Even if Ra-on is shown weak and prone to getting into trouble, I think the point here is to illustrate how much Yeong treasure Ra-on as his woman and would go to great length to ensure her happiness, while Ra-on will serves as an anchor to remind Yeong what kind of a king he should be for his people.

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

you know what really get me?

it's young expression every time he saw her and said thank you for being here and safe, or when he said he liked saying her name,

Ra-on can't do anything much realistically, she has 9-5 official schedule and 24 hours beside Crown Prince (limited to court affair) and she just knew this episode that she is important for other faction, and all this time, she is helping many people from the runaway couple, the king's letter, the eunuch love story, the little princess journey, the yeong's problem, it helps by her wisdom and he helps it to find the solution to the problem, to ended it,

Many people may think this is small but my dad said that our smile gives him hopes and I never felt it until my brother's smile gives me hope,
I hope people don't just count physical help but also mental help, being there, always smile for someone is literally hard,

0

@Sancheezy Yes! The very existence of someone you cherish is a big help in itself in overcoming things. That is what is wonderful about human emotion seen through the eyes or the smile or actions. It is powerful. Just having to see that special person be it a family member, a friend, or a lover gives strength that is at times far more helpful than physically helping someone. Just having the knowledge that someone loves you and cares for you gives enough strength to keep on going in life. It's exactly what Raon said about confessing even an unrequited love.

0

so, I finally watch this with no pause . . .
and even if their interaction makes me like gooey pudding from smiling, I felt like the show always manages to calm my heart,
Ra-on that choose the Crown Prince is the triumph of cliffhanger, I like that my heart feels safe but know that there's many things the story needs to do,

I also love the Mr Jung subtle hint about the girl he loved, the princess also really good at comedic timing,
