Chae Jung-ahn in talks to romance Park Sung-woong in Man to Man

 photo CJA1.jpg

Chae Jung-ahn (Entertainer) is in negotiations to be in Park Hae-jin’s (Cheese in the Trap) upcoming Man to Man. The JTBC action-thriller drama is centered around the mysterious bodyguard of a top celebrity. Park Hae-jin is set to play the secretive protector, and Park Sung-woong (Remember–Son’s War) will be his famous client, an actor who gained popularity by playing the bad guy in films and movies.

If Chae Jung-ahn joins, she will be cast as Song Mi-eun, a former Miss Korea who is currently the wife to a third-generation chaebol. With her never-aging beauty and perfectly maintained body, her character is a chic style icon amongst the fashionista crowd. After marriage, she has a son and lives the life of a devoted wife, until her husband suddenly makes demands for a divorce and her son is kidnapped. Having no one else to turn to, she goes to her past lover-turned-Hallyu-star, Park Sung-woong, for help.

Man to Man has become the focus of much media interest because of the big names attached to it. This project is helmed by PD Lee Chang-min, whose past works include Birth of a Beauty and Remember–Son’s War, which was Park Sung-woong’s last drama. The writer, Kim Won-seok, was the second writer on KBS’s hit Descended From the Sun. In addition, the action scenes for Man to Man will be choreographed by Man From Nowhere’s chief stunt director, Park Jung-ryul. There were also brief rumors that Han Ji-min would be the female lead, but those were quickly shut down by her agency, stating that she had never even received the script.

JTBC Friday-Saturday drama Man to Man plans to air in 2017.

'Having no one else to turn to, she goes to her past lover-turned-Hallyu-star, Park Sung-woong, for help.'

I'm guessing going to family court just doesn't have the same dramatic appeal as asking a favour from an old flame.

Tho I gotta admit the more I hear about this, the more interested I get. I wonder if we'll have a surprise twist where she reconnects with PSW but ends up falling for PHJ instead? Now there's a surefire way to throw a third-act wrench in a good bromance...

I'm sure finding her past lover is only going to add fuel to fire. I mean, doesn't that give her husband more leverage in the divorce proceedings because he's her old flame?

And the twist is sadly not very possible though. Since there's no mention that she's the female lead, I'm assuming she's just a supporting role and hence there's less likely to be a love line between her and Park Hae-jin. That being said, looking at the synopsis I'm pretty sure the female lead will have practically no screentime too.

Lol, that's very true. Which really makes me wonder more why she didn't just go with her chances in family court, especially if the dad just up and dragged the kid with him without her consent. Does no one in kdramaland trust the justice system? (then again, when you think about all the corrupt cops/lawyers/judges in kdramaland...)

On second thought, maybe nobody else knows about the past romance but them? Would explain why she feels safe going to him.

I mean, since the romance happened before the guy turned into a Hallyu star, and we know she was crowned Miss Korea between ages 19-25...I'm betting they were college sweethearts when they were both still nobodies, so the romance likely stayed off-record.

For all we know, CJA might've dumped PSW after she became Miss Korea because she felt like he was a 'nobody' and she was a 'somebody', and that heartbreak might've spurned the man to become the famous 'bad guy actor' powered by years of bitterness and resentment.

...of course, the above is me totally going on a theory tangent rather than acting on tangible proof, haha ^^;;; It's fun thinking about possibilities pre-drama.

What if her past lover is the real dad? So he has more motivation to save the kid.

:O

(I watch too many kdramas...)

Ahahha, now that would be a twist worthy of kdramaland.

I want to say 'YESSSSS' only it would send my 'college sweethearts when they were nobodies' theory crashing and burning into the abyss D:

...Not gonna lie though, as much as I love my theory, yours is more possible kdrama wise.

(and never fear...we all watch too many kdramas... xD)

I also don't want HJM but I don't think she will accept the offer for this drama, if she is offered. This drama is male centric and with two male leads, her screentime will get more lesser. I

Oh, I figured that the writer meant this was the role (Chae Jung Ahn's role) that Han Ji Min was rumored for but maybe not?

Ew! that's so evil. You're using the name of God all because you don't like Han Ji Min......?

Yeah, what's wrong with Han Ji-min? I've always liked her as an actress? She has a lot of range. I wouldn't have minded seeing her in another good show (haven't really been on board with her last few projects). But then I thought it might be weird for her to be an old flame of PSW since they played brother and sister in Cain and Abel. But Chae Jung-ahn is a good actress too. I didn't like her characters in Coffee Prince and Cain and Abel because she kept vacillating, but I did like her character in Entertainer. I definitely think she could handle a meaty role with ease.

I totally didn't recognize her from that picture. She was really likeable in Entertainer. First time I saw her acting, but I wouldn't mind seeing her again in this drama. :)

She is actually always playing supporting roles and she's good at that, managed to make her roles likeable. She looks the same for me from her early career and I envy her. Practically she is not really aging despite of her age.?

CJA's and Jung Man-sik's characters were the only interesting ones in "Entertainer."

Liked CJA ever since "Coffee Prince" - don't know why her character got "hate" since was hardly the typical "evil/b!tchy" competing love interest (wasn't even really a competing love interest ofr YEH's character).

Didn't see CJA in anything until "Entertainer" and while a little older (still looking good), still has that great/easy delivery of her lines and an underappreciated timing when it comes to humor.

It's hell being rich in Korea.

They have so many awful problems. They should give it up and just run small restaurants. That's where true happiness lies.

If I every get a chance to visit Seoul, the only cheerful people I expect to see in the streets are the industrious young folks delivering food on scooters.

And the hungry recipients of those scooter deliveries. Expect them to be cheerful. People usually are after eating.

They should give up their mansions and move to rooftops. People who live on rooftops are a happy lot.

The happiest will probably be the ones who deliver Subway and then go home to their rooftop rooms and have it for dinner.

So is this first time PSW will have romance on the screen. I'm so on it.

Does CJA storyline same as the real life story with a twist of Korean people itself. It sound so familiar.

I'll be excited to see Chae Jung Ahn in a lead role. I've always been a fan of hers. She's always excellent as second lead or in supporting roles.

This former love thing between the girl and The Other Man could mean PHJ will probably have no love interest at all in this show. I am so sad - no backhugs, no piggybacks, no kiss on a bench....why, why, why???

Kim Won-Seok is not just "the second writer on KBS’s hit Descended From the Sun". He also wrote The Queen's Classroom, which is one of the best K-dramas in recent years, and possibly better than anything Kim Eun-sook ever wrote.

I'm familiar with Chae Jung Ahn but I can't remember what I saw her in last or what type of person she was in it. I hope this will be a role that's memorable and allows her to shine.

I think she appears in a handful dramas yearly playing the same character. She's fine, but unfortunately a victim of typecasting.
