Moon Sori added to fantasy romance Legend of the Blue Sea
by chickachunga
As if the Jeon Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho vehicle were lacking in A-list wattage, acclaimed film actress Moon Sori will be taking a supporting role in Legend of the Blue Sea, joining Shin Hye-sun (Five Kids) and Lee Hee-joon (Yoo-na’s Street). Her role is described simply as that of a “rich wife of Daechi-dong,” an upscale neighborhood of Gangnam district.
This would be her first drama project in three years, and what a project to come back to! Moon had a small albeit unforgettable role in Park Chan-wook’s period drama-revenge thriller Agasshi, which captivated audiences at Cannes this year. Her last TV project was the 2013 MBC drama special Haneuljae’s Murder, but she hasn’t been in a full-length drama since 2008’s Golden Age of My Life.
The hype continues to mount for Legend of the Blue Sea written by My Love from Another Star scribe Park Ji-eun, with City Hunter PD Jin Hyuk signed on to direct. Based on a mermaid story from Korea’s earliest collection of folktales, but set in modern-day Korea, Jeon Ji-hyun will play the mermaid opposite Lee Min-ho’s con artist. Park had the two charismatic leads in mind while writing the story so here’s to hoping there’s more than enough fodder for amazing performances all around, on land and sea.
Legend of the Blue Sea will be a Wednesday-Thursday drama premiering in November on SBS, the follow-up to rom-com Jealousy Incarnate starring Gong Hyo-jin and Jo Jung-seok.

Seriously, someone like her only a supporting? Her status in chungmoro same with Jeon Do Yeon actually. But maybe not many people know her so drama can turn people to look at her. Fyi, if you dont mind, watch oasis and pepermint candy. She's great there even get Venice Award for Oasis

I wouldn't say that Moon Sori (whom I love to pieces) is on the same status as Jeon Do Yeon. JDY is on a league of her own. There is only one queen in Chungmuro.

I think both of them is the same league. Rather than saying both of them are Queen of chungmoro, its better to say both of them are the respected actresses from all generation. Moon Sori skills is 11 12 for me with Jeon do Yeon. But the different is these days Moon sori dont take any role. They are from same generation or JDY is lil bit older i forget

Lol I might be the only person who clicked on a LOTBS article because of MSR. And yes given Moon So-ri's roles I am surprised how low key she comes across in Int media. Maybe because of their drama focus. Though I don't know if dramas are more popular, Korean films are usually better known and awarded.

Drama is good for actress who want to develop their popularity overseas because kmovies are not that well known like drama for hallyu fans. But i still respect her decision to be a supporting because good actress will play whatever kind of characters whether its main or Supporting but still captivate and doing the role faithfuly.

Its only now I realise that there are Int drama fans. I saw a lot of K-movies but had no idea about the dramas until I moved for a few months to HK and then got addicted to a few. Until then I thought they were like bad soaps on Indian TV lol. I think there are separate fan bases for movies and dramas and depending on which you start with those actors are more familiar.
I agree supporting or not its the way the part is done that matters. Re JDY there are a lot of good actresses in K-movies who are on par but perhaps JDY is both good and has done some very strong recognised roles so she is kind of "queen". As Sera said I hope these actresses get good dramas too!

I used to start from kdrama, but in the end i felt like the story lines are repeated and i kinda bored. (but these days there are some good kdramas though). Then, i watched some korean old movies (memories of murder, vengeance trilogy, most of kim kiduk works, etc) and i fondly more into kmovies. maybe because i'm quiet new fan of korean cinema, so i admit that i know korean movie industry firstly from those soap dramas kekeke. maybe because in my country, most of international movies in cinemas are from hollywood and the fact that sub of movies are so long unlike dramas (although japanese movies are a long long long waiting than korean movies).

K-drama and K-movie are quite different right. I like some dramas but am min blown by some of the movies like the ones you listed, mai.
Ugh the pain of a J-movie or drama fan, the endless wait for any kind of sub. I bought a few J DVDs in HK but unless you check many times with the shop you can get completely rubbish subtitles!

I wish TVN will steal her and make a drama for her, like Jeon Deo Yeon in The Good Wife. I have no hope for big three to make her as main lead, but I do hope cable like TVN or jTBC will be able to have her in their drama as main lead.
She is too good just to play supporting roles, in my opinion.

Love this news. I love Moon Sori to pieces, she's very well-known in Chungmuro. I think this is a great chance to expose her more to international fans. I think she will certainly give her best to whatever character she's got. FIGHTING!!

Frankly to me this is a disappointing news, an acclaimed movie actress like her i would like to see in her own lead drama to comeback to. She is too good to play second fiddle to more popular drama stars but lesser actors like Jeon Ji Hyun, Lee Min Ho.
Same with Lee Hee Joon, i wanted to see him do a quality drama like Yoona's street where he is the lead role. Sure it easy to see why you take generic rom com popular drama for career reasons but still.....
I wish quality K actors went do cable shows in Korea like Hollywood actors go to HBO/Showtime/AMC etc
