Infinite’s L scores leading role in Oh Hae-young PD’s new drama special
by chickachunga
Infinite’s L (Kim Myung-soo) will be appearing as the male lead in KBS’s one-act drama special The Day After We Parted. No stranger to the leading role, L was most recently the protagonist in the Chinese web drama Black Cat; he’s also had supporting roles in the dramas The Time I’ve Loved You, She’s So Lovable, and Shut Up: Flower Boy Band.
In The Day After We Parted, L will take on the role of Yoo Tak, the leader and vocalist of an indie band called One More Time, which he started with his childhood friends. Tak’s been maintaining the band ever since for over ten years. The indie band flourished for a while, at one point boldly refusing to succumb to the establishment. But alas, Tak’s getting older, the popularity of his band is dwindling, and life isn’t getting any easier financially, which is why he eventually signs with a label this late in the game.
While enduring the difficult conditions inherent at a major music label, an unforeseeable event takes place and Tak gets swept up in it: An unwanted time leap allows him to journey back in time to regain his girlfriend.
PD Song Hyun-wook of Oh Hae-young Again fame will be helming this project with writer Yoo Byung-woo, who penned the 2013 KBS drama special Mom’s Island. KBS’s The Day After We Parted will be simulcast on the portal sites of Sky Perfect TV and KBS Japan in either four one-hour installments or eight half-hour installments; the division of the drama special has not been decided yet.
The Day After We Parted is described as a warm Christmas fantasy-romance drama and has an October premiere date.

I haven't seen L in anything since his short part in Master's Sun...but it was far from leading role material. He could have improved since then, but...

Thank you for the article. Super looking forward to seeing it. I hope KBS World will upload on YT.
Do you happen to know what happened to his project titled "Blue in my Heart?" It is supposed to be MBC Drama.net 10 episode drama.

I think that drama got shelved and changed into this drama instead because both produced by MBC: http://www.dramabeans.com/2016/06/im-shi-wan-l-chae-soo-bin-headline-chinese-web-drama-black-cat/
The broadcast time is not decided yet, but you can see some stills from it here: m.weibo.cn/u/5946897249

Thank you. But I am confused. The Black Cat is a Chinese web drama. And Blue in My Heart was supposed to be a Korean drama,

The drama descriptions are very different too.

Yeah it's just my assumption that the project gets shelved because there is no new news at all after that news. I just assumed they changed the project because I heard a rumor about Chae Soobin being a potential female lead for Blue in My Heart and both she and Myungsoo ends up in Black Cat.

I am happy that he gets a chance to slowly gain experiences through supporting roles and even when he is finally a lead, it's nice that it's also through dramas like this. Hopefully he really has improved a lot, since as a fan, he seems to feel determined to improve and he is aware about the criticsms he gets. Here is a snippet from an interview about his view on his acting:
Q: We can't not talk about your acting. Both your singing and your acting, you've balanced both very well.
A: Not really (laughs). There are a lot of dramas that I left with regret. The 2011 drama "Shut Up! Flower Boy Band" clashed with Infinite's Paradise album schedule and I couldn't fully prepare for it. I didn't have enough time to learn about acting, and it was awkward for me since it's my first time. It was the same during My Lovely Girl. Personally I have a lot of regrets left. I'm learning more about acting now and I think I'm getting better. Haha. We've just finished filming for a Chinese drama recently.
Q: It seems like you didn't exactly like the title of "Acting-dol"
A: Well, there is always a prejudice that idols do not act well People see it as "INFINITE L" who is acting, not newbie actor "Kim Myungsoo". Also whenever my acting is mentioned, it brings back my previous awkward acting in previous dramas and It hink that's a pity. I want to break that impression. I should've done well from the start, that left me with a lot of regrets. However, I'm improving myself now, and a lot of people are looking forward to me in a different way, so I am thankful for that.
Q: It seems that is a homework you have to solve as an actor.
A: That's right. I think of it positively--if I have done very well since the start, wouldn't I have run out of better sides of me to show already? Wouldn't it be nice for the audience to see their favorite actor grow and realize his different images slowly? I think my fans are looking forward to me with that feeling.

I started off reading the premise and thinking: "Once a rocker, now a deadbeat... so this is like 'Hungry!!' without all the food?'
And then, BAM, time-travel. Not that I'm dissappointed. I live for time-travel drama.

I thought the conflict was the aging indie band vs Big Name Label which is already interesting in itself but turns out it's about err... time traveling and girlfriend? *confused*

It's not like his acting is good, but why he always get into acting and get the role and now even the main lead? Because his visual? Or his popularity?

Looking forward to it, I just hope the female lead can act and does not look like a Plain Jane.
