Uncontrollably Fond: Episode 8

It’s Eul’s turn to run scared from her feelings — but as much as she wants to hide from what’s happening, Eul can’t hide from her own emotions. Luckily Joon-young is even more stubborn than she is, and it will take more strength than Eul’s got to keep denying that there’s something between them.

EPISODE 8 RECAP

Joon-young finally tells Eul that he loves her, but she doesn’t believe him. Her brother warned her not to be drawn in by him again, and Eul cries, knowing she’s already falling. She screams that she’s crazy, and Joon-young kisses her.

Listening from the other side of the wall, Ji-tae nearly bangs on it to let Eul know he’s there. But he stops himself, and instead he just leans his head on the wall, defeated.

Joon-young pulls back and, looking Eul right in the eyes, says, “Never once did I use you or toy with you. Focus on me. Listen to my heart. I love you, Eul-ah.” Eul doesn’t say a word, but turns away, and Joon-young calls after her not to go. His voice chokes up with tears, and he begs her again, “Don’t go, Eul-ah.” She stops for a moment, then walks away.

She only manages to get past his outer door before she starts to cry, and Joon-young is left alone, fighting back his own tears. Ji-tae follows Eul home from a distance, unseen, and he witnesses how shaken she is by Joon-young’s confession.

Yuna, the actress that Joon-young’s agent Namgoong told the reporters he’s dating, does a television interview in which she confirms the rumor. Eul hides in bed while her friend Na-ri glares at the TV when the actress claims that she knew all about the supposed “distraction” ploy using Eul.

She asks Eul if she was in on this plan, and Eul brightly says that she played along on Joon-young’s request. Eul gets a good scolding for not telling anyone it was all an act, and scaring her brother and friends by disappearing.

Agent Namgoong also watches Yuna’s interview and jokes that she’s a better actress than she gets credit for. Gook-young is uncomfortable with lying to the entire nation, but the fans are turning back around to support Joon-young, calling his behavior chivalrous and thoughtful.

Gook-young asks what Yuna is getting out of lying like this, and apparently she’s getting a lot of offers now. Her career had been tanking, but now she’s gaining prestige just from “dating” Joon-young. Even Eul’s reputation has improved — when it was thought she was dating Joon-young, as a commoner, she was being criticized as a gold-digger. But now she’s being praised for sacrificing herself to help a friend.

The really strange thing is Joon-young’s silence on the matter. They expected him to be furious, but he hasn’t said a word to anyone about it. It makes his team nervous that they haven’t heard from him.

Jik’s entire class at school is treated to burgers, apparently by Jik’s hyung, but Jik is mystified and can’t think who would have done this. He’s called to the principal’s office to find Joon-young there signing autographs for the teachers, but he doesn’t look pleased to see Joon-young.

They go to the roof to talk, and Jik refuses to shake Joon-young’s hand. He mentally adds up how much it cost to feed the entire school and promises to pay the huge sum back when he can, but Joon-young refuses to give his account number.

Looking much less guarded than usual, Joon-young simply says that he likes Eul, so much that he’s going crazy. He can’t eat, he can’t sleep, he can’t even breathe. He asks for Jik’s help, wanting him to tell his sister not to run away from him, and to trust him. Oof, he’s being so nakedly sincere, it’s almost hard to watch — but Jik just says again that he’ll repay Joon-young’s money as soon as he can.

Despite her claims to Na-ri, Eul can’t stop thinking about Joon-young’s confession and the kiss from last night. Ji-tae is also distracted at work, recalling the previous evening’s events, and his assistant notices and asks if he can speak as a friend for a minute.

He tells Ji-tae to stop — he’s already gone too far with this, and it’s time to apologize to Jung-eun and give up on Eul. If Eul finds out who Ji-tae really is, or if his parents or Jung-eun find out who Eul is… but Ji-tae interrupts, saying that his minute is up.

Joon-young is sitting in his car outside Eul’s apartment when Ji-tae arrives, dressed as Hyun-woo. Ji-tae goes up to Eul’s door and reaches for the bell, but Joon-young runs up and rings it first. Heh.

Eul opens the door and immediately tries to close it again, but Joon-young’s foot wedges it open. He gives her a cute little Yeah, not gonna work squint when she keeps trying to slam the door, and she has to let him and Ji-tae in.

Ji-tae has brought food, and Joon-young objects to his trying to feed Eul. Eul sighs that she’s fine, but Ji-tae is in full-on papa mode and tells her that she looks like she’s about to expire from hunger. He holds out the spoonful of porridge again, but just as Eul is about to eat, Joon-young swoops down and snaps up the bite like a hungry raptor. HA.

Eul gets annoyed and tells them both to leave. She grabs her coat and exits the apartment herself, while Joon-young hollers petulantly that “Koreans should eat rice!!

Still inside, Joon-young eats the porridge and says that Ji-tae is weird, rejecting Eul but still hanging around her. He wants to say something about Ji-tae claiming he has no right to love Eul, and argues that he can love whoever he wants. Ji-tae smiles and says that he’s correct — there no such thing as “having the right” to love someone.

He actually thanks Joon-young for clearing that up for him, and Joon-young asks, “Who are you?” He points out Ji-tae’s luxury watch, which would belie his claim that he’s poor and unemployed. He asks if Ji-tae is a scammer, but Ji-tae says that it doesn’t matter who they are beyond two men who happen to love the same woman.

Ji-tae checks his phone to find a message from Haru, who’s frantic because their mother just collapsed. He rushes to the hospital to find Jung-eun already there, and she explains that she and his mom were at the sauna when Mom collapsed with chest pains.

Ji-tae accuses her of doing something to his mother, but Haru says that Mom is alive because Jung-eun got her to the hospital so quickly. Jung-eun apologizes for not taking better care of his mother, and Haru bursts into tears because she was so scared when she couldn’t reach Ji-tae.

Jung-eun tells Ji-tae that his mother should be fine, her collapse was just a side effect of her recent kidney transplant. Ji-tae doesn’t acknowledge her and Haru threatens to tell their father when he gets home from his business trip, but Jung-eun calms her.

Joon-young goes looking for Eul and finds her in a restaurant stuffing her face, and HA, she looks so guilty when she spots him. He waves at her to finish and come outside, so she eats slowly and even orders seconds, to put off a conversation. She’s sick by the time she finishes, and Joon-young drags her off to see a doctor.

Eul snaps at him that she’s not easy or a pushover, and poor Joon-young just looks confused at her anger. He says that he just saw that she looked sick and felt responsible, so he wanted to help her feel better, that’s all. He covers his face again and warns her not to make a scene when they just got the press off their backs, and Eul tells him to stop worrying about how she feels.

But Joon-young has no intention of doing that, or of letting her go. He gets her to his car and asks if she wants to avoid him so badly that she’d make herself sick, and Eul says that she does. She tells him to drop her off at the hospital and get lost, and she’s surprised when he quickly agrees.

He says cryptically that he’ll disappear from her sight and she’ll never see him again… but not quite yet. He’ll do it in about three or four months. Eul just says that she plans to cling to Ji-tae again, to harass him until he accepts her, but she doesn’t get the rise out of Joon-young that she’s trying for.

They arrive at their destination, but it’s not a hospital — it’s Joon-young’s mother’s restaurant. He tells Eul to just say she hates him if his mom tries to run her off, but swears that mom is great at folk remedies.

Awww, Mom is definitely not happy to see Joon-young enter her restaurant, though she immediately clocks that Joon-young is holding Eul’s hand. All of the customers are ushered out of the place, and the restaurant is closed so they can talk.

Joon-young refuses to let go of Eul’s hand until she promises not to run off, and when he does, she formally introduces herself. Ajusshi recognizes her as the “gold-digger,” so Eul launches into the cover story cooked up by Agent Namgoong. Joon-young asks his mother to prick Eul’s thumb (a folk remedy believed to settle upset stomachs), and Eul tries to beg off while Mom just looks at her searchingly.

Eul promises that she’s really not a gold-digger, and that she and Joon-young aren’t dating. Ajusshi says that’s obviously not true — she’s the first girl Joon-young has ever brought to meet his mother, so there must be something between them. Joon-young just nods and says that this is the girl he likes. Hee, he looks so proud to show her off to his mom.

Eul pipes up that Gook-young says he’s not in his right mind lately, ha, but Joon-young just says that he can’t stop thinking about her — for the past nine years. He realized that he’s in love with her two weeks ago. Eul says his name in a warning tone, and he just smirks at her.

Eul speaks out that she knows where she stands, and promises Mom that she’ll avoid Joon-young no matter what he does. She even offers to put in in writing, which alarms Joon-young, but she keeps burping from her indigestion and Mom softens enough to come over and pat her back.

Mom relents to prick Eul’s finger to relieve her discomfort, and Eul begs her not to poke her hard just because she hates her. That makes Mom pause, and she says she doesn’t hate Eul. Then she sticks her, and Eul screams so loud that Joon-young flinches out in the dining room.

Ajusshi brings out a soju to share with Joon-young, and asks how he could fall in love with someone who wears such cheap sneakers. Joon-young wonders that himself, when he could have any woman he wanted, and Ajusshi says he’s just like his father.

He was also surrounded by pretty, rich women, but he fell for Joon-young’s mother. But Ajusshi grumbles that eventually you forget about the cheap sneakers, upset that with all his money and power, Assemblyman Choi has never tracked down Joon-young’s mom.

Speaking of Assemblyman Choi, he rushes home from his trip and goes to the hospital to see his wife, but Jung-eun stops Ji-tae from following him. She suggests he change clothes, since he’s still wearing his cheap Hyun-woo outfit and dad might figure out he’s fallen for a poor girl. Ji-tae just says he’ll have his assistant drive Jung-eun home so he can be with his family.

His mother’s doctor tells her that she’s fine, but she says that she’s worried about her health and her life. Her husband gave her a kidney, but that only extends the recipient’s life by ten to fifteen years, and it could fail at any time. She asks the doctor to tell her husband that she’s fragile, and that she should be showered with attention so she can rest.

Assemblyman Choi arrives, truly shaken at his wife’s collapse, and the doctor lies that he’s concerned. Choi asks what he should do to make sure she’s taken good care of.

Ji-tae gets suited up, and thinks about what Jung-eun just told him. She told his mother she wants to become part of the family soon, so they decided to move the wedding up to a month from now, on his parents’ anniversary. She’d said that his mother was thrilled, but the look on her face was practically predatory.

Joon-young joins his mother in the kitchen and asks her if Eul isn’t pretty, like she used to be. “But she won’t become like you.” He promises that he won’t let Eul suffer, or run off like Mom did, but Mom just pretends she’s not listening. Joon-young isn’t bothered, and continues that he won’t let Eul go… “I won’t give up on her even if I die.”

Out in the dining room, Ajusshi and Eul hear every word. Ajusshi tells Eul that even though he’s a top star, Joon-young’s mother never cooks him a warm meal when he comes, and Eul asks how they ended up like this. Ajusshi gives her the bare bones, but tells her that she’ll have to get the details from Joon-young.

When Joon-young drives Eul home, he tells her that his mother was a single mom, and was only twenty-two when she had him. When he was in high school she worked in a bar to pay for a tutor, and even got in trouble for trying to bribe his teacher. After that, he hated going to school.

He tells Eul a few more embarrassing stories about his mother, like how she stole something when he was in second grade, and asks if Eul still thinks he’s out of her league now that she knows where he comes from. Eul just softly thanks him for helping her upset stomach, and goes up to her apartment.

Ji-tae is worried that his father will collapse too if he doesn’t get some rest, but Dad is determined to stay by his wife’s side. So Ji-tae goes home, but he heads right back out when Eul texts him to meet for some food. Before he gets to her, his father calls him and apologizes “for everything,” promising to be a better father.

The restaurant unni serves Eul extra side dishes as a thank you for supposedly being a decoy for Joon-young and Yuna, figuring she probably did fall for Joon-young at some point. It’s easier to accept than deny it, so Eul eats, and Unni asks if she’s been dumped by anyone else besides Joon-young and Ji-tae. Then she packs up the food again when she hears Ji-tae is on his way, heh.

But Ji-tae is still standing by the road, shaken by his father’s promise and his conflicting loyalties. He ignores Eul’s calls, and his food goes cold.

Gook-young and Agent Namgoong show up at Joon-young’s home ready to beg for his forgiveness for lying about his relationship with Yuna. But Joon-young says they did well, confusing them both. He goes to his room and collapses on his bed, exhausted and frustrated.

Ji-tae never shows, and Eul mutters that she’d planned to ask him to hold her back. But now, “I don’t care. It’s all his fault.” She leaves the restaurant and starts to make a call.

But it’s not Ji-tae’s phone that chimes — it’s Joon-young’s. He jumps up and climbs in his car, smiling ear-to-ear, and peels out. Whatever she’d called to say, he wants her to say it to his face, and he finds her sitting by the Han River waiting for him.

He approaches her, still smiling happily, but when she turns to look at him Joon-young’s vision suddenly goes blurry. He becomes disoriented, but he keeps his gaze on her, and internally he thinks, “You were sorely mistaken if you thought I would fall or give up or step aside over something like this.”

His vision clears, and he walks the rest of the way to Eul. She stands, and Joon-young smiles again and pulls her into a big, warm hug. “Come at me with everything you have. I will never despair, be sad, or succumb.”

COMMENTS

AUGH, every time I start to forget that this isn’t just a love story, the show yanks me back to “reality” by reminding me that Joon-young is dying. His time is short, and it’s heartbreaking how he keeps obliquely referring to it, like when he told Eul that he’d only bother her for a few months then he’d disappear forever. Speaking of which, now that we know what Joon-young is dying of, I understand why he’s choosing not to pursue treatment — I actually knew someone who had his same kind of brain cancer, and it’s a particularly vicious and aggressive form, with a very low survival rate even with treatment. And the treatment makes the patient very ill, so I can see why he would rather live what little time he has left without being so sick. It’s definitely more appealing to spend his remaining time loving Eul.

It’s interesting that first it was Joon-young trying to avoid Eul because of his feelings, and then it was Eul doing her best to avoid Joon-young. That tells me that she does have feelings for him, no matter how much she denies it, because why spend so much energy avoiding him if he poses no threat? I can definitely understand why she’s trying to keep some distance, because Joon-young has never been a “safe” bet emotionally, and a few easy words aren’t going to change that. He’s going to need to show her that he’s sincere and that he truly does love her, before she starts to trust him. But at least now she’s admitting that she does have feelings for him, even if she wishes she doesn’t, and I’m glad Joon-young will have a chance to prove she can let herself relax around him.

And luckily, he seems to already be doing just that. Joon-young has certainly changed his tactics in regards to Eul, and I really like this new, softer person he’s becoming. I mentioned before that he was coming on way too strong out of fear and desperation that he’s running out of time, and that understandably scared Eul off. She knows him, but she doesn’t know that he’s sick and only has a few months left. She only knows that he comes on all aggressive with a girl, then drops her just as quickly when he tires of her — in fact, he did it with Eul herself back in school. So from Eul’s perspective, he’s been doing that exact same thing with her again now, and it’s no wonder she doesn’t trust what he says.

I’m really impressed with how thoughtful Joon-young is becoming as well, now that he’s decided to pursue Eul more gently instead of just bulldozing her. The first thing he did after their confrontation was reach out to Jik, which proves that he was actually listening and absorbing what Eul was saying the night before. Joon-young still does things in a hilariously over-the-top way, but you gotta admit, buying lunch for Jik’s entire school certainly got the kid’s attention. But I like that Joon-young figured out that Jik is the one person whose opinion Eul truly cares about… so if he wants to win over Eul, first he has to win over her little brother.

And in addition to being impressed, I’m also pretty charmed by how freaking adorable Joon-young’s feelings for Eul are, now that he’s showing them openly. He was practically giddy when he took her to meet Mom, so proud to show her off and tell his mother how much he loves her. He was completely unconcerned that Eul isn’t on the same page as him, and it’s kind of cute that he’s happy to just be in love, even if she doesn’t feel the same way (yet?). Now that he’s not trying to push her into feeling something for him, he’s settled into a more adoring position, and he’s lost his intimidating aura. I like this softer, sweeter Joon-young — he’s gone from this scary unpredictable live wire to a big old squishy love bear, and it’s just the best thing.

Okay, this is the 8th episode already. If you do not like the drama, WHY ARE YOU HERE? This is outright trolling. Uncontrollably Lame? Really?

Look, I do not think this is the best drama ever. Neither do I think Suzy is at her best... BUT, we have spoken about it, we have complained, we have trolled, at episode 8, it is time to move the hell on. If you dislike it that much, find another drama, or else, if there is something that you enjoy about it, stay, watch it, and stop repeating yourself like a broken record. The drama is preproduced, there is absolutely nothing they can do about your complaints at this point (however, exaggerated they are at this point. Seriously, people are really reaching with some of their complaints about this show) . If it is that unbearable for you, leave it to the rest of us that can still enjoy it. Jesus.

K-dramas are cliche for a reason. Rich dude, poor girl. Crazy mother-in-law, mean third wheeler. More often than not, they have happy endings, and so do they have their own faults. It's a place for you to relax your mind and put not-that-much brain work into figuring out who just killed who or what authorial intent there is. Unless you are going for dramas like Secret Door, most of them are lame (for those who fancy having their brain crushed by directors or scriptwriters), otherwise they are fun to others. So when it comes down to acting, I don't know if that is the 'cliche' way directors ask actors/actresses to be. I mean, if you look at the many other dramas before UF, you will see that actresses are always a little bit exaggerated in their actions. *shrugs* Just look at their makeup style for female doctors recently. P.S. Descendants of the Sun, Doctors, and W. Lol.

I looked up the link and honestly I don't understand why this is an example of her bad acting. Is this because she overdoes the pain ? Since she is playing a girl who is drunk, I don't find it inapropriate. You tend to overdo a lot when you are drunk so I find this example very irrelevant. Sure she isn't the best at acting among the actors of this show and you can feel off sometimes but I don't find her that bad ; at least, she isn't a burden and in fact, most of the time I let myself be carried by the story.

I remember seeing the clip in a preview and at the time wondering what the hell it was about. It's just weird - it's like a snippet from a comic music video, where you have three seconds to overact so you do it through posing. You don't usually see it in a scripted show unless the show is a broad comedy.

Not enough to indict a whole performance, obviously, but that's why it could be seen as an example of bad acting.

Sure, but when you know the context, is it still bad acting ? Drunkness is also about being weird and offbeat so I totally understand that she may feel the hit and then feel the pain... no ?

0

Nope, without context it's just something that makes you go "hunh, I thought this was a melo?" But certainly not bad in itself.

That said, the scene was a bit odd IN context, at least for me. Not enough to set off acting warning bells though! That happened around episode 4.

Doesn't this violate the DB's commenting policy? This commentary doesn't add anything to the discussion and is literally a poor attempt of "trolling for the lulz".

As others have mentioned in their replies to you, we all have our gripes with the drama, and I don't think your comment contributes anything to the discussion of these gripes.

Thank goodness I found someone to discuss it with. It was just recently that I started reading AllKPop frequently and man, I was taken aback at how uncivilized a lot of people are over there. Like I remember one person, religiously commenting on every Suzy-related articles and throwing arguments at Suzy fans any chance she gets. It's unbelievable how much effort and time they waste just to troll and spread hate. Uncontrollably Lame & Pathetic. Also, I realized, out of all the Kpop/Kdrama news related articles that I'm reading, AllKpop is the most unreliable. Making biased headlines and they don't even give a f**k at getting both sides of the story.

So glad we have websites like this where people discuss the story and characters with much sense than just throwing shade at actors they hate.

Back to the episode, I really enjoyed those whole times that Joon Young was just being all soft and cute about his feelings for Eul, and how Eul just terribly fails at denying her feelings for Joon Young. This "chasing" / "will-they-wont-they" stage is just so enjoyable. And these two leads have great chemistry. That is one strong reason why I am still very much on the UF train. I'm really happy at how they are building up the main romantic story here so I hope the subplots of the other characters won't slow down and complicate much this good build up they made for the central story. KWB and Suzy is so good together and I am really invested in their love story now.

Civil I see.

Ok, no offense, but if that comment is breaking the rules, then your comment is as well. Your comment provides nothing to the conversation other than trashing the actress. A healthy debate is one that doesn't involve name-calling or insults, which is what you started with. Plus, your conversation with pigsnout also resulted in you insulting them about Chinese idioms. Please don't manipulate the rules to make insults at others.

The recappers put plenty of effort to talk about the dramas, and the least they could get in return is some mature and civil discussion in the comments from people who take the time to read and enjoy the recaps. Why don't you respect that as well?

Peace~

And this, my friends, is a prime example of the hate I'm concerned about in the comments section that I talked about in episode 7's recap. This isn't an opinion or criticism, this is just trashing a drama/actress.

I love the recaps and some of the more civil commenters here, that I do. But stuff like this that I see surprisingly often on drama recaps I like? That's just despicable behavior.

I'm glad some people also dislike what this commenter is doing, because I would very much like some more mature opinions rather than...this. Hopefully the majority of the community isn't this hate-filled.

You don't even have a single thing to say about the episode. How many episodes have you watched? People do have criticisms about this show and the actors as well. And they make valid points. And you? This is downright TROLLING, and super duper LAME.

Go over at AllKpop. There's plenty of your kind there. Or how about get a decent job or study. Or spend your time watching your type of show and showing support for your fave? You are wasting precious time trolling on any chance you get. Pls. get a life and leave this comment section if you've got nothing valid to contribute. Such a waste of space.

People who bring other people down are the worst kind. They're jealous and full of hatred that instead of working on making themselves better, they just waste precious time spreading hate and trolling in the hopes of taking someone down with them. They are digging their own graves. Not noticing that instead of lifting themselves up, they are just putting themselves way, waaaaayyyy lower than where they are at the moment. Good luck in life.

And for this drama, I can see that the story is getting a lot interesting. Just as the relationship of Joon Young and Eul are starting to blossom, Joon Young's sickness is starting to progress. I'm really glad at how he has this positivity in him at his monologue at the end when he was walking towards Eul. I hope he reveals to her his sickness soon. Eul is a strong girl. She has been for so long since she lost both her parents. I would like for her to be the same strong girl for Joon Young. Please don't push each other away. Embrace what life has given them and face it together.

Softer and sweeter, but I still can't get past the fact that he is setting her up for a world of hurt. He is so desperate right now he can only take into account his feelings and doesn't look into the future when he is no longer there. I hope he gets past this point and tells her the truth. Then it is her choice if she wants to stay.

Yeah I agree. You can't really call doing something this selfish love, or can you? I dont know, but i would think not. To his credit, when he found out he was dying, he just wanted to know how she was doing, not to pursue her. Maybe it seemed like a gift from the gods when she persistantly kept aftef him about thedocumentary.

That tumour they mentioned was one Dr Lee Young Oh successfully removed over on Beautiful Minds. Too bad they cant do a crossover and finish out their missing two epusodes on Uncontrollably Fond so Young Oh can save SJY's life. It would improve the plot of UF and we could check in on Young Ohs condition.

I do think we were given hope there could be a happy ending. Sounds like theres a slim but painful chance he could live.

I think we might find out that the prosecutor was going to leave his wife for JYs mom but she got sick with the kidney disease thateventuallyneeded the transplant and he guilted himxelf into staying. Somethinglike that.

While it was cute the way that Joon Young counted to 10 in Ep 7 and then chose to stop pushing No Eul away, I think that it was unfair to begin pursuing her because she "stayed." She stayed because she thought he was angry and did not want to lose her job. She dismissed his romantic overtures as unserious (mostly because he seemed so unserious). He is setting her up for heartbreak by not telling her about his illness before drawing her into a relationship.

However, Joon Young is only recognizing his true feelings now, and he does not have an example of a strong, loving relationship to draw from in his own actions. He may be acting selfishly by pursuing No Eul, but that provides a lot of opportunities for depth in the relationship as his feelings deepen and mature. When he reaches the point that he loves her so deeply that he puts her feelings and future ahead of his own, it will be too late (please no noble idiocy show!). I do believe that No Eul's character has enough strength and resiliency to wring every drop of happiness from their love as possible, though I am sure the journey will be heartbreaking for the characters and for the audience.

While I feel that what Joon Young is doing is unfair to Eul. I cannot forgive her finer mistakes on judgement like running after the driver instead of seeing to her dying father and I don't know maybe calling an ambulance immediately. But perhaps her attraction to him is the fact that she can sense the pain he has about her accident that Joon Young was indirectly responsible for. Perhaps she has more of selective amnesia over the last nine years and doesn't remember that human-guilt feeling you get when you have a younger sibling and that if you had just called for an ambulance 1 second earlier you would not share in that guilt with the hit and run driver.

I think you're being too hard on her. She was in shock over her fathers accideent and the driver sped off so she mindlessly ran after him. I don't think it's the same thing as actually being the direct cause of an accident. How can you put it on the same vein?

I know you are probably right, and I am so gonna cry like on and on, when she tells him that she loves him, but yeah I dunnow maybe Its just me but some how I want Eul to be able to forgive him completely via possible empathy from what they have shown from her life other than what is going on with JY's illness. That way I will cry so much more...

I started crying when he sprang out of bed to go to her, viewers would say about him before this scene that he is selfish for actively pursuing her knowing he will die. But here she called him, she is clearly using him, probably to get back at JiTae even though her reasoning is she wants JiTae to stop her from being with JoonYoung. She is using JY here and that is also selfish on her part. The other scene where I started to cry before it was even said was when she finished eating at that place and then he asks her something along the lines of is that how bad she wants to get away from him, and then he agrees to drive her to hospital, and he says to her, and I knew what he was gonna say, so I started crying even more: sure I will let you go in 3 to 4 months. I never cried so much in my life and then I went Ito the full tears eyed cry when we read on JY's moms restaurant door that his fans not welcome. So sad awwwwwww, wake up ajumma he is smiling but thanks to you and his so called prosecutor father this girl he likes is probably gonna hate him before she realizes what we all did in episode 6 on the island that for us he needs to be on screen and not via documentary lens or series of flashbacks but actually playing off cast mates and in terms of Eul that she resents his role in what he did but still can't live without him and in terms of his mom that she hugs and tells him that she is sorry she idolized his easily corrupted father.

Finally, finally, finally, an episode i adored. Everything was right here. Honestly, i had worrying that what happened to KWB, but finally we get to an episode where he tugs at all your heartstrings. I think that is what was missing in earlier episodes - a sense of balance to JY.

Like in heirs woobie was this bully but he was also sarcastic and funny which made him fun to watch. Here He was just simply a douche. But now they balanced it with him playing this sometimes adorable, sometimes disgruntled man in love. The scene where he swoops in to eat the porridge from JT's hands had me laughing for straight 5 minutes. As always his scenes with mom were the best. seriously, give the man some decent acting material to work with and he delivers. He is not yet at the level where he can elevate poor writing all on his own.

And suzy too, went back to the earlier episodes of acting where i felt she was perfectly fine. We had none of this whining and yelling thats been happening in the past 2 episodes. Her scene with No-ri where she tells her to stop teasing bec she is tired was pretty well done. With her eyes closed, her voice almost muted, you could feel that NE was exhausted emotionally.

All is all, i really liked this episode. Why can't you keep doing this show?

Jik is really an interesting character if you think about it. How many young boys would turn down a nice free house after becoming homeless just so your sister who's already in so much debt, keeps working harder? It's a strange mindset but I like him as a character, he seems like the type that doesn't like to owe debts to people.

Also I liked JY/Jik scene a lot, it's cute how he tried to bribe his gf's baby brother.

Jik's coming across as an absolute straight arrow, and in many ways the adult out of the two siblings. It's almost like the tortoise and the hare - Jik is setting a course and sticking to it doggedly, while Eul is kind of all over the map in every aspect of her life.

Yes, everything improved this episode. I was going to drop it after thisone if it didnt. I agree re the acting. It was only the last episode that Suzy grated on me. I havent been that happy with Kim Woo Bin either, but I dont think either of them had good scenes to play with. The only scene i liked last episode was the one with the two younger siblings and the trashcan. But thats not just due to the acting - the writing was good. Suzy and Woo Bin could have done just as good a job of that scene because the motivations for eachcharacter were clear.

Only if they promise me it won't be filled with flashbacks and documentary footage of JY. And that he actually survived I think I would watch then. I'll say more like the acting is sometimes decent and sometimes not. It can't be "unquestionably good" if I even feel like my own favorite (Woobin) sometimes lacking and many people actually question the acting because the impact is lacking or something becoming irritating in the character.

But this week is a lot better than last week and this episode is better than yesterday. At least continue with this quality and we can have a decent drama.

Joon-young was seriously adorable this episode! I definitely agree that I enjoy watching this side of him. Kim Woo Bin is doing a great job of portraying Joon-young.

Again, Suzy had been wavering for me in the emotions department on some of the emotional scenes lately but this episode she was spot on! I really have no complaints!

And at this point I am already emotionally invested in this drama. I need to see it to the end. Still can't believe I got caught up in another Melo! I really tried to swear them off. Especially after Marriage Contract. I loved that show so much but it was just so freaking sad.

Same here - I would say this is maybe the second melodrama that I've attempted to watch, ever and really liking it so far! Usually I roll my eyes at the almost too dramatic setups but not on this one. I think it has the right mix of humor and sadness and a dash of reality, and not too over the top dramatic. Plus all the pretty doesn't hurt either but not too distracting from the flow of the story.

well enjoy while you can. UF probably will be the last weekday melo for a while now (expect WS2, but who believe in it...). considering, that melo's not fairing up like they used to, but comedy and fantasy dramas the only one that works... Doctors, mythical creatures, parallel demotions and time-travels, superheros and cops - will be on your screen for most of the part from now on.

I kind of dropping this drama after 4 eps. Joonyoung is so selfish. He is dying but he keeps making Eul falls for him, exposing her at the concert too. Required fields are marked *

I don't think that Joon Young truly understands love. He is only recognizing how deep his feelings are now. Also, he seems to be in the denial phase of accepting his illness. We saw this in the meetings with the doctor where he says he can't believe he is dying.

When he took Mo Eul to see his Mom and told her the story about his childhood, it was clear that he sees himself in the light of making his Mom's life difficult. I think that he has internalized the idea that he is "trash." His dad left; the neighborhood and classmates looked down on him; even his mom turned his back on him. While he gave up on being a prosecutor after No Eul's injury, the idea that a man "like him" is unworthy is ingrained in him.

When he says that he will stay for only three months and disappear, I think he actually believes that No Eul will be fine. He cannot even envision the idea that loving him could bring her pain. I know that the show will prove him wrong: he is worthy of love and No Eul will be changed by the relationship.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree with that. He, Joon Young, probably does not realize that Eul most probably would forgive him even if he wasn't dying of tragic circumstance. So he thinks she wouldn't really fall for him, because it seems only Jik and JiTae knows Eul had a crush on JY in high school via her diary info? But he in way is thinking falling totally for her would punish him completely when he probably confesses his role in the bag theft or he is outed by someone like JiTae or so. And then he knows or thinks she will hate him and he thinks that is how he will be hated and almost alone at his end except for Gook-Young and GY's father who always take JY's side. Or and also always faithful Pororo: " master how can you leave me with a girl on allergy medication?".

0

Required fields are marked *

My view is that he was already very much in love with her all those years ago. I think they needed to show that a little bit more definitively in the flashback. He's lying when he says he just fell two weeks ago - he needed a reason why he never stayed in touch. The fact is he was already"uncontrollably fond" of her but played the noble idiot because he contributed to her accident. He didn't believe he deserved her or that he deserved to be a prosecutor because of his action that day.

And what does he do when he finds out he is dying? He hires a detective for info on her but doesn't want to contact her. It was pretty evident to me he was going to try to look after her financially after he died.

And then she showed up out of the blue. So he was still pushing her away but still in love with her.

What changes?: He finds out she'll do almost anything for money. She's still her, but a money-grubber to boot.

I think that gives him the excuse he needs. He's been a noble idiot for years because of the guilt, but now he's dying, he still loves her, and while she might be upset when he dies, she'll be materially much better off and her life will be better overall. So he's taking his happiness while he can. If she were not so greedy, or portraying herself as such, I don't think he would have done it.

At some point, he just gave in.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I thought of her greed or rather desperate need for money too, but will she forgive him entirely... I was hoping that in episode 7 and 8 they would make her as bad as him but clearly there is nothing the writer has expressed yet to make Eul on an equally bad footing as Joon Young. But then again the writer may make something small huge ... Perhaps the money/greed thing is huger than it appears now.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I don't think he is bad at all. A bit of an asshole personality but he's not a bad person. Was it his fault his dad, who he doesn't know, covered up that hit and run? And when he stole that usb, I think he panicked not just because he was protecting his dad but also his mother (the affair might come to light) and his growing love for Eul (if she finds out he's the prosecutors son, then he'd be in the same situation as Ji Tae is later, unable to avow his feelings). A lot was riding on that usb so stealing it in a moment of panic was perhaps understandable though not justifiable. His actions led to the accident in part, but so did Eul's clumsiness and rashness. Accidents are accidents because no one can be held completely to blame.

So Eul doesnt have to be worse than we've seen her. I honestly have no respect for bribe takers, and this is an ongoing thing for her. The damage she has done by not reporting truth could be incalculable. To me, she's already worse than him and possibly worse than the prosecutor if that hit and run cover up was the only corruption he has yet engaged in.

But the writer seems to be telling us that the quality or quantity of lies and corruption dont matter. One lie, like the prosecutors, one deception like ji taes mother, one false identity like ji tae, one moment of panic like JY or Ji Tae's girlfriend - any one of these starts building steam into a true clusterf*ck.

0

*Phew* I'll admit it, that ending got me.

This show has an easy charm to it when it mixes the right ingredients and isn't trying too hard to be epic or...whatever was going on the past 3 episodes.

And please let Woo Bin be cute more often show, seriously, I was watching the bts for some of the episodes and he and Suzy are so cute on set, I was wondering where the hell that was in the actual drama. Let them be cute guys!

I think we need to remember the entire premise or theme of the drama when we discuss about whether JY is being selfish or not.
The title 'Uncontrollably Fond' already alludes to the notion that love is not something you can control. And the writer has presented almost all the main characters tormented by inner conflict as they try to rein in their love for that special someone, whether it is JY, NE, JT....and failing badly.
Ineterestingly, those who have let 'head to rule over heart' suffered much regret through the rest of their lives, as in the case of JY's mom and prosecutor Choi.
Anyway, I am glad woobin took on this role, despite the less than stellar ratings. I think it gave him a lot of room to grow and expand his acting range. I would love for him to choose roles not just based on whether it will become a ratings hit or not, but how it challenges him as an actor. This episode saw so many different aspects of JY, I love it!

"Interestingly, those who have let ‘head to rule over heart’ suffered much regret through the rest of their lives, as in the case of JY’s mom and prosecutor Choi."

Very rightly said. :)
Now i'm starting to connect how the title applies to almost every single characters in the drama. The heart wants who it wants.
Be it the guy who has a clock ticking, the girl who keeps falling for the guy who has broken her heart multiple times previously, the guy who has a bad family history with the girl and knows a future with them together is not possible,a man who cant forget his first love, a desperate women who is forever afraid her husband is going to abandon her and even Taek's appa who has steadfastly stood by a women as her friend even though she has never been able to forget her love. Sigh... Can't but help being Uncontrobally Fond.

Week 4, ep 8 and I have made it this far and still addicted to it. The last time I cared enough to actually regularly comment was the HJM vs KMHM days. It always happens that I like both shows but the one that I really get addicted to is the one that is widely accepted as being crappy. Can't be helped. The heart wants what it wants.

I know this writers doesn't like happy endings for her Melos. I don't expect one here either. But I just want to a good journey for these two. I am happy that JY changed up his tactics in wooing her. I agree this ep is better than the last two. I still have my gripes with the acting and the story but I am willing to overlook them when the ep works.

First - what the heck with these fans? Who are they? They sure are fair weather fans to me. Lots of negatively if it doesn't match up with their ideal. And who believes that JY would set up this elaborate confession as shield? For what? Rumors? Totally suspicious lol would have been better off just saying it was part of the act. But at least Yuna is a good shield for NE and the fans and reporters are off her back.

Maybe JY needs to do a background check on JT. Not that that would help him at all - just make everything worse. Jik is being taken for a ride... He totally thinks JT is "one of them" but in reality, JY is the one closest to their world and JT couldn't be further in a different world both now and growing up. Open his eyes to JY just a little more.

JY's choked back tears begging her to stay was very good.

Firstly, he just needs to tell Eul the truth. He's not going to loose less by not telling her.

Secondly, I still don't understand why he's basically forcing himself to marry his fiancé. He kind of actively distains her.

If you can't have Eul, that doesn't mean to you have to pick someone you don't love and then proceed to run to the alter. What's up with the rushed marriage? No ones pregnant; narratively speaking there is no clear reason. I just don't understand.

He's not under THAT much pressure. Just tell your family you don't love or even like her. The end.

I agree that he just needs to tell Eul the truth...but that seems to be out of character for Ji Tae from what we've seen. Telling her the truth would take a lot of courage (and maybe some selfishness?), something the drama has repeatedly shown he's lacking.

I don't think he's rushing into marriage with his fiance only because he feels he can't have Eul. I think it's more because he feels extremely loyal to his family. He was going to meet up with Eul up to the point when his father called. It also might be related to his mother's fake diagnosis - the doctor was told to tell her husband and family that she shouldn't be and couldn't take stress due to her "poor" health. He knows breaking the arranged marriage would stress his mom out. On top of all that, Ji Tae probably still feels like he doesn't deserve Eul.

The pressure Ji Tae has imposed on himself is probably 100x greater than any pressure anyone else has or can put on him or thinks he has on him. I think it's a common thing for anyone who doesn't want to disappoint someone they really love.

Ji Tae DID tell both his parents that he didn't like JE and asked for his engagement to be called off and surprises of surprise, Daddy Choi agreed to call it off saying that even if his ambition was important, his son's well being was even more so. That was my first inkling that Daddy Choi is not a truly bad person.
This was in a flashback in ep 4, sandwiched between JT arriving home for a family member's memorial service and him finding JE in his room. When the show failed to clearly tell us why JT agreed to marry JE, I can only suppose from the way the scenes were put together that JT went along with the marriage arrangement in consideration of Daddy Choi's easy capitulation of his break-up request. In return for how kind and considerate his father was, JT is willing to place himself in a loveless marriage.

That was an interesting way to see it, that JY is the opposite of a noble idiot here because he was being selfish for once in his life. But in earlier eps he seemed a bit too selfish and jerky, while here he calmed down and got his girl so he's cute and grumpy now. Cute Woobin is the cutest ♡♡♡ especially when he brings NE to see his mom. And his narration at the end, I love it.

I still worry than mom is still pissed off at him while he's dying. And now JT mom knows about his condition I'm worrying she will be the one to get jealous and tell JY mom about it to hurt her.

But why does he have to have that kind of cancer ????? why can't you give him at least a type of cancer that can be cured ???

The monologue and hug at the end. Urgh..is killing me. *tears* . I'm worried now that she is going to reject him.

The moment when No Eul said to the mom that she knows her place and won't look at JY,you could see the mom wavered a bit, maybe she saw her young self in No Eul,a poor hardworking girl who loved a man she felt was way above her in social status. I hope these two ladies warm up to each other, gawd knows they will need each other when the worst comes regarding the man they both love dearly, although both are very reluctant to admit that love right now.

This episode sealed the door for Ji Tae. No Eul made her choice regarding him,but he is the one who takes two steps back everytime she makes an effort to come forward. i understand that he has his family issues that keeps holding him back but when you see that in light of JY who is dealing with an even bigger issue....sigh, Ji Tae is going to regret his actions in future. And even though he has been immensely kind to her brother and her,he is deceiving her and hiding so many secrets.
JY on the other hand has made so much effort to show his sincerity and bares open his heart which even she has to realize is way out of his character and such a big deal for him.
JY-1 Ji tae- 0.

Yeah, if Ji Tae wasn't such a coward, he could have been happy with No Eul. I still don't understand his self flagellation, he's not responsible for his father's actions. He could apologize to Eul and Jik for his father's actions and try to be honest with them, instead of getting engaged to Eul's father's murderess, a woman he clearly despises.

Speaking of which, the Assemblyman's wife is a piece of work. She wants to passively aggressively control her husband by pretending to be an invalid, so he can be tethered to her side. She knows he doesn't love her, so she wants to guilt him into never finding out he has an illegitimate son who is terminally ill. I imagine that she's afraid she would lose him to Joon Young's mom, if he ever saw JY's mom again.

The one major flaw everyone has in this drama is that they keep too many secrets. This drama would be a lot different and a lot less cliche if everyone spoke the truth they knew instead of keeping secrets. Ji Tae needs to confess his true self to Jik and Eul, Joon Young needs to let his mom know he's dying, Ji Tae needs to let Joon Young know they are half brothers, Joon Young needs to let Eul know he was responsible for her accident. Someone needs to let the Assemblyman know he has an illegitimate son. Just speak some truth for starters and get the ball rolling huh?

So many secrets. I keep wondering if they are going to start unraveling anytime soon.

It will be so frustrating if they all just circle around each other lying for the next 10-11 episodes... Then everything comes out in the last 20 minutes.

I'm a little disturbed seeing NE calling JY right after JT is a no show. It's feels wrong! In my book, you don't become the girlfriend of someone who loves you (just because he loves you) after being rejected by the one you're (supposedly) in love with. Except if you're a gold digger!

It seemed to me that she was always going to go back to SJY. At the noodle cafe/ shop she was talking to herself right before she left, stating she was wishing that JT would stop her from going to SJY. So I did not think the scene at the end was "wrong". She was trying so hard to deny what her heart was telling her to do. And was hoping JT would be a support system for her, as she is slowly realizing she cannot fight with how she truly feels, what she feels for SJY. The scene at the end seemed like NE is giving in to her heart, even against her better judgment. I think she made a very tough decision - just my interpretation of it. I could be so wrong :)

From the subs i got the impression that she basically wanted JT to hold her back from going to JY. She knows JY and her worlds are different plus he is unpredictable but she wants to take the chance. So she is trying to be sensible and wants JT to not let her make this mistake.

Are you talking about the song when JiTae doesn't come for the noodles and they get cold? It goes something like this : "meet me Thursday for golden love"? If it's that one it's not an OST but it is a song by Midnight Youth called Golden Love ... I think they are from New Zealand.

I might be watching a different show. I have no issue what-so-ever about Suzy and Woobin's acting. I find them believable as NE and JY especially since they successfully tugged my heart and made me cry a number of times, this episode and the last.
Three minutes into the episode and I was already a sobbing mess. The way JY says her name is just ugh. Suzy too, when she asked him to stop. She doesnt deserve the harsh criticism shes getting.

After this push and pull, I do hope that we'll get AT LEAST two episodes of them together just being a happy, adorably cringey couple before she knows of his condition.

I also think they are a good match up in casting. And I am happy that he is a stronger conveyor of emotions than her interms of acting because as a KWB fan I cannot have someone in a higher rank than him in terms of acting on the same screen. She may be a better singer in real life but in real life I think they are very similar. It is just the way he speaks that is a stand out for he, KWB, did the same thing in School 2013 and Heirs, he made me keep watching.

So much feels in this drama and I can't help but giggled uncontrollably because of Eul and JY... Gahd, hate that UF made me so girly.

I also love that Joon Young is different from leads with illnesses from other dramas... instead of pushing his loved ones away like others, he didn't want to waste his time and tried to make the most and stay close with them.

Selfish for the people he may left especially to Eul...but I like the way he's honest to himself in wanting to experience happiness even in short time he had.

Thanks for the recap.

Each drama has its unique story, it's only a matter of level of maturity of how you will accept its story, I believe that actors/actresses are giving their best to the role they portray.

I just love korean dramas.

I think it is very inconsiderate of Joon Young to make Eul fall in love with him when he has only three or four months to live. It's down right selfish infact. So, while we all swoon at how romantic Joon young is being, let's all consider that in a very short while, Eul who is being pursued so ardently is going to be left bereft. She's already lost mom to illness, dad to an accident, now she will lose the man she loves to brain cancer?! Poor, poor girl! I am so upset that he is hiding his condition from her. He needs to let her know so she can make an informed decision going into this relationship or whatever the hell this is.

Think about it, he never once remembered No Eul when he was healthy and successful, now he's dying and he wants to give her what? The scraps of his life? She'd have been better off if he willed money to her after his death so she can get out of her crushing debt.

And, same goes for him buying lunch for Jik. Here's a guy he ignored for all his life, now he wants to date the sister and he buys burgers for the entire school? If I were in Jik's shoes, I would rightfully be mad. He just treated Jik like a disposable object. "I want something from you, so take this, and tell your sister to date me". What?! Arrogant, selfish man. Other people do not exist just for his convenience.

On the other hand Ji Tae has been there through thick and thin for them these past few years and has formed relationships with Eul and Jik. He genuinely cares about Jik and loves Eul. It's too bad his habitual lies, and cowardice has driven a wedge so deep between him and the No's that all hell will break loose when Eul and Jik find out. He has my sympathies but I don't understand why he holds back so much. Both Joon Young and Ji Tae have the same father, but only one of them is using it as a reason why they can't be together.

I'm in love with your "scraps of his life" comment. I didn't see it that way but you're right. He has a mom who doesn't care for him, a dog that No-eul is allergic to, a horde of crazy fangirls... it seems like a bad deal for No-eul. Then again, No-eul's life is so tragic that JY's scraps seems like blessing to her.

Well as far as JY knows, Eul is pining for someone else. That doesn't just go away because he's pursued her actively. I agree JY is selfish in YOLOing this whole thing without thinking of the consequence. But I also think that he doesn't feel his death will be making such an impact because it'll come so soon as he anticipates, and he's spent no time fostering strong relationships with anyone in his life pre-diagnosis. How sad is that? He must have panicked and just did whatever he thought he needed to do without thinking. Like he says to let him just bug Eul for 3 months tops and he'll go away. He's underestimating the situation I think, which of course will get out of hand soon, and he'll realize how selfish he's been. If realizing that Eul, (at the point she's fallen deep in love with him, she's still a bit guarded now) will be left alone and heartbroken and basically dead too because of what he's done, isn't karmic payback enough I dunno what is.

With the amount of time he's spent just thinking about Eul, I can understand why a deadline on life and health might give him a sudden burst of wanting and making it happen. He did say he just realized recently that he loves her, and he did swear to leave her alone after that accident if she would live. He now just wanted to let it all out I guess, and expects he's not getting much back.

I find that if he really wanted attention, he'd tell the important people he's dying. That way Eul might warm up to him faster (they do have history so she might want to be there for him if he asked her to), JY's mom might just forget about her issues and just you know, BE A MOM to him, and have the time of his life getting showered with pity-love. Note how this is Ji Tae's mom's approach haha. He's taking a chance. Sometimes we wake up and realize we wanted to do something for so long but still get hung up with all the shame/insecurity. Cancer just took all the fear away from him I guess.

JY is actually also asking for other people's love/life scraps because of the time he has left. Don't you think?

Yeah he is not letting anyone know beside doc and Pororo, I guess his dog can sense it that why he didn't take kindly to Eul kicking master, JY. Pororo'sthoughts: How can you kick him, do you not know how long I have to wait for food and water when he is sick? That dog knows something perhaps he just doesn't want JY to die of his tumour too, because maybe he doesn't want to live with selfish Gook-Young, I remind you of his chastisement of Eul and the flat drink. Haha.

I am so invested in this drama. Just finished watching Episodes 7 and 8. I can't wait for next week.

I loathe all the women in Jitae's family, including his fiancée, but I also kind of don't care. Just give me more OTP!

I thought the show did a good job of "rehabilitating" Joonyoung's mother in this episode. Before this episode, she was the character I found the most annoying. Joonyoung's father, too, is beginning to come across as a basically decent person who's done one bad thing (and kept it up, unfortunately, with the cover-up).

How lovely that Joonyoung recognized all that was wrong with how things turned out between his mom and his dad. This seems to be a theme with him, his recognition of the unnecessary sacrifice his mother made. I love that he says he won't ask Eul to make such a sacrifice.

And I absolutely loved seeing the ending of Episode 6 from Joonyoung's perspective. Basically I did a lot of squeeing, awwwing, and laughing throughout these two episodes. I never realized how much fun melodramas can be. I'm also watching "W," which is great in a different way, but I love the dose of straight-up romance with a side of angst that I get from "Uncontrollably Fond."

This show is my new addiction - I am on board for the journey, even though I know it will be sooooo sad.

One detail bugged me, though. Why does Joon Young keep driving? It is very dangerous. His symptoms have included blurred vision and dizziness, which he cannot control and cannot predict. STOP DRIVING!! In fact, his latest dizzy spell happened right after he arrived to see No Eul. What if the blurred vision and dizziness hit just a minute or two earlier? He would have crashed! Moreover, earlier in the episode he drove No Eul to his mother's restaurant. He put them both in danger and endangered everyone on the road.

It is just a small detail, but I am sure that the doctor would have warned him that he should not drive, both because of the dizzy spells and because of the side effects of the strong pain killers he is taking. Usually, those types of drugs have a warning against operating heavy machinery.

Seeing Joon Young drive, especially because he is rich enough to afford a limo and chauffeur, breaks the realism of the show for me and makes me feel the writer is being sloppy.

Now, it might be evidence of just how deep Joon Young's denial about his condition is now. He definitely still sees himself as healthy and his symptoms are only just beginning to impact his life. It would be a giant step to admit that he is too sick to drive. However, he really does need to stop driving! (I hope the writer is not planning an accident in a future episode - that is too predictable)

On another note, I liked how the writer had some of the characters mentioning that Joon Young did not look well, wasn't thinking clearly, and was behaving strangely. I think that was a subtle way of reminding us that he is sick and that fact is changing him, both in in the fact that his health is declining and in the way that he views life and the people around him.

That detail bugged me as well. Joon young shouldn't be driving with his medical condition. Unexpected blurry vision makes him a danger to anyone on the road especially since he speeds so much. I was afraid he was going to have an accident.

I liked Suzy acting in this episode. If the scriptwriter or the director doesn't make a fool of her making her do stupid things and just act normal, as a sane and mature person she's pretty natural. She's not the best actress that's for sure but she has a natural innocence to her... Eul was forced to change and be shameless, bc she never got the chance to act like a normal girl and grow up as a healthy woman after her father's death, bc she's always desperate to help Jik. What's funny is how mature and stable is Jik, even in the way he talks, bc he always had his nuna as an older reference. I think Eul needed JT more as that person who would be the one to protect her, in a way that she feels safe, not in a dependable way. No wonder when JY got back in the picture as a person who loves her, when she just wanted to work with him, she went nuts for some time. Now she's actually thinking with a clear mind and is making a decision that she thinks it's best for her. I know I would do the same if I had this hot guy from my past ready to receive me and to make things more easy (but we know that it will be for a short time and that this way too good dream will end soon when truth is revealed). If she will be genuine with JY, only time will tell.

ah, I would like to point that neither JT nor JY deserves Eul. Whatever people may talk about her, she's not a manipulative liar like the both of them are.

I think Suzy did act alright enough, in this drama and her previous ones, and she did her best. I like her in Gu family book also. You have to remember that acting isn't as easy as you think, and it is certainly not a natural thing to do, at least not for everyone. I have heard from actors and actresses who act out very convincingly that they have to submerge in their roles so deeply that sometimes it affects their health and other life aspects, at least for sometime. Suzy doesn't do badly at all. She does pass quite alright as an actress. But whether you like the way she portrays the character she plays or not is another matter. I agree that there is a room for improvement, but she is not as bad as internet wants you to think.

Acting is definitely hard. That's why it makes absolutely no sense to me why the producers of this show would cast a woman in the lead role who is not at that level of acting experience. It's not fair to the audience or to the actress.

"Not doing badly" really shouldn't be the bar here when there are so, SO many other actresses who could've taken this part and knocked it out of the park. This is not a Korean problem, it happens in all entertainment industries where an actor or actress is a known commercial pull and a businessman wants to get a piece of that cashflow. But this isn't the first time for this particular actress - Suzy is a known quantity in Kdramaland, which is why this casting was greeted the way it was.

Actors should be given the chance to take supporting roles or smaller projects to make mistakes and practice their profession. I wouldn't expect to be thrown into a six-month, multimillion dollar project as the project lead just because I have connections with the client. It's not fair to the inexperienced person who should have the chance to fail in smaller ways, and if they have the confidence to insist they get the role, the director should be strong enough to impartially asses that individual.

"Doing your best" really doesn't cut it in this field once you've had a couple of tries. You know by now you're not a natural, so if you really want to do this go learn the ropes and try again later.

This. Totally agree with you. Honestly, gave up watching this show after 1 of her drunken scenes (and I also gave up her other shows before but I gave this a chance as the trailers seemed interesting). I am sorry I just couldn't take it. She is not doing it for me. But I'm still here reading the recaps as I am a fan of the writer and am curious to know where this story is heading. Unlike other trolls, I don't go on every UF recap to bash Suzy but I think that people here should also be open with why other commenters dislike certain parts of the show, like the acting etc. As long as it is done in a civilized manner. Not everyone can accept acting that is "alright enough" but may still be here for other reasons.

Still hoping for a miracle that joonyoung will not die! It does indeed pull my heart strings whenever I remember he is pursuing Eul with all he has because he only has 3 months left to live. How can the scriptwriter come up with this doomed romance from the very beginning?! Ohhh, melodramas... I love you but I hate you.

Also, why is there so much hate for Suzy's acting? I think she is doing really well for most of the show. There are only certain scenes where I find her acting awkward but this is normal for most other actors. For every drama I watch, I do see scenes in which the acting is awkward or overboard for any actor (or actress) at all. Or that there are particular emotions which an actor does not portray well. But that doesn't mean that they don't act well on a whole!

My observances!

1. How amazing was the scene in the beginning when Eul leaves, and Joon Young notices the sausage she gave to Pororo?! He picks up the sausage...gently caresses it with his thumb...and stares emotionally...at the sausage.

It also made me think, hey, even if Eul never hung out with dogs, she should still know that dogs cannot open sausages easily on their lonesome, and giving the sausage to Pororo without unwrapping it would be a risk to his health. Eul, I was so happy when you reached out to Pororo with this kind gesture...but was it sincere, or sabotage?!

2. Good ol Hanabeoji picking up other people's trash in the school hallway. Thanks writers, if we weren't sure, we now know 210% that he is the most upright and model citizen/donsaeng/fella.

3. Joon Young's goofy smile and SUV roll-up at the end. Just that. :D

I'm liking the drama, especially the way it chooses to be "calm" and "soft" when it has potential to be very dramatic and "hysterical".

The acting of the leads is pretty good, but admittedly not GREAT. Coming from a Woobin fan since White Christmas, he's better when he's charming, but he needs to improve to convey deep, conflicting emotions.

Suzy is pretty okay to me.

Poor girl, she must have endure a lot bad feelings.

I am glad I started watching this drama, while 7 and 8 wasn't what I expected. I thought it was really good in terms of entertainment value in the sub category: melodrama. If this were any other OTP I don't think I would forgive as much. But I think Suzy has done well making Euk likable to this point, at least with JY and JT, because if either of the two could dig dirt on her they probably would cover it up for her than expose her. And who cares about us mere onlookers these guys are enamored by her, she is clearly doing something right. That is thanks to the actress not getting lost in the scenery. There were many times when I wanted the actress to stop taking up air time and I felt a tremendous sense of loss when JY went AWOL in episode 6, but I think that was meant for Eul to not want to be without him, so him counting to 10 and then pursuing her, I agree with that, besides why not go for her their best moments are together even though she appears afraid and reluctant for now.

Hey guys,
It's my first time commenting but I've been reading the recaps for this drama from the beginning ( but I started reading dramabeans recaps wayyy before that).

I just wanted to say that I truly love Lollypip's recap for this drama (and of course for other dramas as well) , I've always loved the way you analyse the characters and the drama so that we viewers can understand the story, different emotions perfectly... So keep it up! I've been a fan since the day I first read your recap♥

As for UF, OMG I'M SOOOO IN LOVE WITH SJY!!♥♥ The story is nice especially this episode where SJY instead of pushing her, forcing her to kind of love him, JUST chose to love her. And the other thing I liked was that he told her everything (well almost) abt himself in order to lower himself at her level. I loved that!!! ♡

Just got caught up and I only just realized how sick this drama is! Really sick but in the best way! Like, the whole paternity angle and the 'secret brothers' mess and the whole 'neither of us deserve her' hell both men are in. Everyone is suffering so much and it's all the more heart rending because we can't forget someone was killed : Noh Eul's dad and how the accident caused all this backlash. Wasn't really convinced just when and how JY fell in love with Noh Eul but whatever, Kim Woo Bin slays as a mysterious male lead with those intense eyes and steady glare. He's a natural and should do more and more dramas.

A brief recap of Uncontrollably Fond so far...

Eul: I don't wanna date Shin Joon-young cause I'm poor and he's rich as hell but DAMN what a sexy piece of ass.

Joon-young: I love Eul so much. (me: but you caused her accident-) Shut up. We're gonna forget that for the sake of the plot. (me: but that's terrible-) I'm gonna die anyway lols yolo bro swag.

Ji-tae: basically I dress in rags to impress this girl but i can't have her but i still hang out around her but i'm also rich like super rich but (*rambles on about excuses for a century because that's all he does here, he makes excuses*)

Joon-young's Mom: I hate my son because he ruined my dream

Ha-ru: *loves her step-brother* *has probably written dirty fanfics about said step-brother* *seems to have no life because of 24/7 stalking of Joon-young*

...and that's what you missed on Glee!
