Joo Jin-mo to become Woman With a Suitcase’s secret helper

Ah, Choi Ji-woo (Twenty Again) may have her leading man for MBC’s Woman With a Suitcase, as Joo Jin-mo (Beloved Eun-dong) is currently in talks to join the production. I’m not convinced the title was quite the right choice for a show about a successful office manager (Choi Ji-woo) who is given a prison sentence for violating the Attorneys-at-Law act, but I suppose it makes it more memorable than, say, Lawyers or Woman Attorney.

The charge that tanks the heroine’s career is a false one, so the blow is particularly harsh; the drama follows her journey as she bounces back to become an outstanding lawyer. Joo Jin-mo is considering the role of a media company president who first meets Choi Ji-woo at court regarding a lawsuit involving a reporter; he falls for her and helps her out quietly, without her knowing. For instance, he uses his contacts to help her go to law school and open her own firm, then finds cases for her and hides that he’s essentially the real owner of the firm.

The description gives me Lee Sang-yoon flashbacks in Twenty Again, where he spent a large chunk of the drama skulking around helping out Choi Ji-woo behind her back (while being bickery and gruff to her face). What is it about Choi Ji-woo that just makes you want to swoop in and help her out? It sounds like this drama is a bit more serious than the light-hearted Twenty Again, though, and I can see Joo Jin-mo slipping easily into the role of the silently devoted, stoic love interest, probably with a heavy brooding component. You don’t cast Joo Jin-mo and then not make him brood.

I suppose I see the romance of the faithful leading man remaining in the background as he helps without claiming credit, though I can’t help but find it vaguely unsettling, too — I always prefer when the heroes help out the ladies to their faces. Why can’t open communication ever be one of dramaland’s sought-after virtues? I know, I know, we’d never have any dramas if adults spoke openly and honestly and didn’t hide their true feelings for at least six to ten episodes. Sometimes a whole twenty (argh!).

Woman With a Suitcase will be a Monday-Tuesday drama to follow MBC’s current series, Monster. It kicks off in September.

LMAO at brooding component.

Too bad he's gonna be the angsty type of Daddy Long Legs. :( I prefer the bumbling ones. Or the inept-at-hiding-their-concern ones.

If he helps the Woman with a Suitcase, that would make him the Man with a Helpful Face.

It wouldn't make him a porter? As in luggage boy? Which brings us back to Seojinni.

Love this cast, potentially a very good pairing, serious A-list class.
lol at the brooding component. But I hope it will be brought to a minimum, as JJM can also be very funny and cute as shown in Beloved Eundong.
I hope both of them will confirm, if so I will be looking forward to the drama.

Oh no. There you go reminding me of cute JJM in Beloved Eundong. My fingers and toes curled everytime he does cute but I always wants more after he stops lol

LOL I've already had images of brooding moments in my head now.

I'm also tired of screaming at my screen when one person, the viewers, and sometimes the other characters in a drama know what's going on but the one who has to know doesn't. This drama features adult characters so I hope that they'll be communicating more openly and are not so clueless, unlike younger, less experienced characters.

I'm writing this drama on my watch list :)

It sounds like a reshuffling of elements from Divorce Lawyer in Love: female lawyer is framed and loses licence, becomes office manager; male lead used to be an office manager, then is secretly helped to become a lawyer himself. I am sure that's where similarities will end, but I am not particularly interested in the setup anyway. I doubt Joo Jin-mo will be half as funny and endearing as Shim Hyung-tak playing daddy long legs...

I liked that drama in the beginning, but it got boring pretty quickly so I really hope this will not be similar. Love the cast here and it should be a good match up with the two leads. The one you mentioned is I believe a rom com and this drama is suppose to be a more serious deeper type of drama. Ji Woo has proven herself to be good in rom com's but I also love her in melodramas.

Is this going to be another 50 episode diluted trainwreck or a short form ~16-20 episodes?

16-20 eps. At first, they going to air on tvN Fri-Sat that never air long dramas.

Thanks God, I love both leads very much and love that the title is not boring and is unique for drama name. 16-20 ep is perfect. So happy that she is playing a very different role as compare previous role (not that I didn't like her in 20 Again, I actually loved her), I just like it more that she will this time play a strong/professional female.

Must've been half asleep when I read this earlier, because I saw it as "Joo Jin-mo to become Woman, With a Suitcase’s secret helper," and I was wondering how, what, why...?

I like the cast, but nothing about this is really pulling me in.

I love Jo Jin Mo. I am growing some love for Choi Ji Woo too after Twenty Again.❤ So will see this.

Anyway, I'm actually hoping JJM to reunite with Ha Ji Won because JJM was quite underused in Empress Ki and the romance between these two did not really happened. Hopefully it will come true ❤❤

This! IMO Ha Ji Won had better chemistry with JJM than JCW in Empress Ki. Or maybe because I just like age-appropriate pairings better. I'm still hoping for a HJW-JJM drama reunion one day.

But, going back to the topic, I'm liking this potential casting news. Choi Ji Woo - Joo Jin Mo seems like a good pairing. I'm happy to see more and more A-listers back on my TV screen these days. There seem to be a lot of dramas with mature storylines coming out lately with known actors and actresses in their 30's-40's. Reminds me of the good ole drama days in the 1990's-2000's. Not that I have anything against teeny booper dramas but sometimes I like to be reminded of previous classics that got me started on this craze.

I have nothing against JCW since he is my puppy too, but he was lucky got 2 senior top actors acted beside him ( Joo Jin Mo in Empress Ki and Yoo Ji-Tae in Healer). Only God know how sad I was since these two was underutilised in their dramas considering their status. Fortunately JCW is great actor too, otherwise it will a big waste.

And yes, I'm glad to see more senior actors and A-lister on small screen. I wish to see some classic melodramas again.

I would take JCW over all of them in a heart beat. Loved his chemistry with Ha Ji Won in Empress Ki and his chemistry in Healer with PMY was off the charts.

I never think he was underuse in empress ki, his scene n his charracter is the charracter that need really good acting eventhough i last half episode his screen time is reduce, when i watch empress ki his storyline that attract my attention i almost forget it's about the empress if not because of the screentime, in my mind always what will happen to wangyu, i become his fans after empress ki, miss him in a drama

Would rather have seen JJM in a romcom on the small screen, but can think of many more actresses better suited to be his lead in that case than HJW.
