Oh Hae-young Again: Episode 13

How set in stone are Do-kyung’s visions, and can the future (past?) be changed? It’s time to find out, as Do-kyung decides to take a more active role in his own life. It will take some serious soul-searching and courage, and it will mean taking some scary chances, for a guy who’s always held his feelings very close to the vest.

EPISODE 13: “The heart I’ve understood”

After having a premonition that showed him that he will die having never told Hae-young that he loves her, Do-kyung decides that he’s no longer willing to sit back and accept his fate. He speeds back to town, calling Dr. Park on the way to tell him that no matter what happens, he refuses to die with regret.

Hae-young is busy packing away all of her possessions that remind her of him. Her friend Hee-ran drops by to see her, and drags her out to do something normal. Hae-young is quiet, and the song Hee-ran plays in the car seems to reflect exactly how she’s feeling.

They go for a walk, and Hae-young muses that her life isn’t anything like she thought it would be at this point. She never expected earning money and having love to be this difficult.

Hee-ran asks if Hae-young is ending things with Do-kyung, and she smiles feebly that she got dumped. Hee-ran disagrees that it was a dumping, since Do-kyung was very considerate about it, accepting the role of “bad guy.”

Hae-young argues that that’s only because he doesn’t love her as much as she loves him, but Hee-ran disagrees again. “It’s not because he doesn’t love you. It’s because he doesn’t know how to love.” Lady speaks the truth. She expounds that men just don’t understand that women would rather hang in there, and stand by their man even in hard times.

She jokes that Hae-young should date someone and then dump him, just so that she can be the dumper for once. The thought cheers up Hae-young immensely, and the two friends laugh over the idea until a strong wind whips Hee-ran’s hat off her head. Hae-young runs into a fountain to retrieve it, and when the fountain sprays water all over her, she laughs for the first time in a long while.

She catches a cold from wearing wet clothes, and Mom brings her hot tea and tells her that she and Dad are moving to the countryside. They want Hae-young to quit her job and come with them, but Hae-young says she’s strong and wants to go back to work.

HAHA, Dad jumps in front of the video monitor when the doorbell rings, to keep Mom from seeing Do-kyung on the doorstep. He nervously runs out and shoos Do-kyung away, saying that he’ll have Hae-young call him, and grabs his wrist and runs when Mom comes outside.

It works, and when Mom runs looking for them in the wrong direction, they come out of hiding, relieved. Then she pops back up and sees them, and hee, Do-kyung only gets halfway through a bow before Dad grabs him and runs again. The guys are faster, but Mom is wily, and she finally corners them.

Mom glares daggers at Do-kyung and says that he had her fooled, that she fed him not knowing how her daughter would fall for him and be rebuffed. She’s deeply disappointed in him, and says that what goes around comes around — he ruined a couple with a bright future, then broke Hae-young’s heart, and he’ll be rightfully punished.

Dad sneaks away to alert Hae-young that Do-kyung is outside, and she goes out just as Mom is entreating the heavens to cancel what she just said and just let her punch Do-kyung once. Dad drags Mom inside, and Do-kyung tries to hug Hae-young, but she steps out of his reach.

Do-kyung says he came because he missed her, and apologizes for coming too late. Hae-young doesn’t look at him, and sneers that he wouldn’t move a muscle when she was begging him shamelessly, but he’s come now that he’s feeling better. She says that their timing is off, and tells him not to come anymore.

She turns to go, but Do-kyung quickly says that he’s made mistakes and he was wrong. He promises not to go back and forth on her again, and never to let her go. Hae-young turns back and says that she won’t go back and forth either, because she’s letting him go.

She’s calm and collected, and says that this is not a game. Do-kyung argues that they both know he was pushing her away even though he has feelings for her, but Hae-young repeats that it’s over, completely and utterly over.

She blames her sniffling on her cold, saying that she’s not crying, and adds one more thing… “I’m grateful to you for letting me end things and dump you.” And like that, she’s gone. Do-kyung stands outside the house late into the night, but when Hae-young eventually comes out, it’s only to give him the bag of items that remind her of him.

Later, Do-kyung’s mother begs him to ask Chairman Jang for forgiveness, just as she did in his vision. He tells Dr. Park about everything he saw in that vision, worried because so far everything he’s seen has been unchangeable. But if he can’t do anything about them, then why is he seeing them at all?

Dr. Park muses again on his theory of Do-kyung’s visions: that when we die, we look back on our lives and relive them as if they’re happening right then, and Do-kyung is somehow “remembering” things that haven’t happened yet in his current reality.

The good doctor’s advice is for Do-kyung to look into his heart and determine what it wants, but that’s easier said than done for Do-kyung, who’s never opened his heart easily. He admits that he’s always done the bare minimum when it comes to relationships, always letting the other person’s actions guide his own. Never once has he revealed his heart’s desire.

He tells Dr. Park that he’s not scared of dying anymore, he’s just sorry he didn’t give Hae-young more love when he had the chance. Now she’s suffering from his reluctance, and that’s the thing that bothers him the most.

Hae-young shows up back at work with a cheerful mask on, playing it like she was just on vacation, explaining away her pale face and lost weight as if they were intentional. She insists a little too stridently that she’s fine, just fine, really!

Soo-kyung knows the truth and apologizes in private, and Hae-young admits that everyone’s “sorrys” just make her feel worse. Soo-kyung just apologizes again, then apologizes for apologizing, then stops before it gets even weirder.

She says that Do-kyung is in a lot of pain, but Hae-young thinks he should be relieved now that it’s all over. From now on she plans to live like Soo-kyung, not needing a man, independent and strong. But then she notices that Soo-kyung is dressed very conservatively, and that “mole” on her face is actually food. Ew.

The other Hae-young also approaches our Hae-young to apologize, but our Hae-young says that her public humiliation actually made her feel better in the end. She has nothing left to hide, and this is what she’s worth. Awww, that’s sad.

She talks about their teen years, and how she always felt like a sore loser. She laughs ruefully that she still feels that way, and looks the other Hae-young in the eye as she says that she wants to overcome it.

The other Hae-young smiles that she hasn’t changed, the way she can get up and move on so easily. Our Hae-young seems a bit stunned to hear something so complimentary from the woman she’s always felt interior to, and this time she agrees to have that drink with the other Hae-young. Some day. She tells the other Hae-young that she and Do-kyung are over, and wishes her luck with him.

The other Hae-young thinks about it, that our Hae-young and Do-kyung broke up, but not because they didn’t care for each other. It’s clear to her that they love each other, so why did they split? It makes her sad that she’s not Do-kyung’s most painful love anymore — just when I was starting to think she wasn’t a selfish brat.

Hoon and An-na are back together and snugglier than ever — did I miss something? Anyway, Hoon rushes out when he gets a call from Hee-ran regarding his script, freaking out because if she approves of it, this could be his big break.

That peek up Hee-ran’s skirt still rattles Hoon, and this time he focuses on her low-cut shirt. He snaps out of it when she says she likes his characters, and promises to send the script to some actors. She leans in to discuss a certain scene, giving Hoon an even better look down her blouse. He has a hard time focusing, but promises to make the needed changes in two days.

The neighborhood ajummas are shocked to see Soo-kyung step off the bus sober and demurely dressed, but they still don’t offer to walk her home safely, even when she asks politely. She mentions her pregnancy, which works, and the three of them end up in a cafe discussing the fact that Jin-sang thinks it’s another man’s baby.

Soo-kyung’s biggest concern isn’t that Jin-sang is a notorious player — she hates the fact that he defends lowlifes in court. She gets herself all worked up about it, then remembers the baby, and whispers that the babydaddy is complete trash… but she still likes him.

The ajummas think she should give him a chance to do right by her and the baby, but Soo-kyung is against telling him. He doesn’t even know they slept together, and it would be too much of a shock.

Jin-sang calls Soo-kyung just then, from a bar, naturally. He tells her that he’s polled his friends, and they all said that if they got a woman pregnant in a one night stand, they would tell her not to have the baby. And as for him, he says he would flee the country.

On Soo-kyung’s request, he tells all his friends that she’s forty-four and wants to have the baby, and asks them this time — would they rather know they had a child out there, or continue to be unaware?

More guys vote that they would rather know about the baby, and Jin-sang says that he feels the same way. He urges her to tell the father of the baby right away, and Soo-kyung says softly that she’ll definitely tell him.

Hae-young and Do-kyung’s deal regarding the house (where Do-kyung promised to pay her rent when she moved out) is discovered by the landlord, and he is not happy. He assumes that they’re still antagonistic and that Do-kyung kicked Hae-young out, but he tells Hae-young that she’s still on the hook for the rent for the length of her lease, refusing to accept Do-kyung’s agreement to pay it.

He says that he’ll see Hae-young in a year when her lease is up, but she barks that she wants to end this now. I don’t think she’s talking about her lease anymore, and Do-kyung hangs his head, remembering the part of his vision where he’d discussed this with someone we don’t see. But this time he goes against his vision, and asks, “Can you just move back? I’d like it if you moved back in.”

He follows when Hae-young storms off, but she refuses his offer of a ride home. Her phone rings, and Do-kyung remembers this from a vision too, and knows that it’s Tae-jin calling her. He turns away, and so he doesn’t see that she doesn’t answer the call as he expects.

Hae-young does meet Tae-jin for dinner, and blames her subdued mood on her cold. Tae-jin apologizes for hitting Do-kyung, saying that he assumed he’d ruined his business in order to get to Hae-young. Hae-young shuts down any talk of Do-kyung, then apologizes for being too harsh. Out of nowhere, she breaks up with Tae-jin, but he asks for some time to hang out and see what happens.

Hae-young falters in the morning when she reaches for a pair of shoes, and finds Do-kyung’s shoes in with hers (the ones he put in her entryway to deter overenthusiastic suitors). She pulls herself together, but she broods on the bus ride to work.

Tae-jin visits Do-kyung at work, and muses that he was a CEO once too, until someone took all that away. He makes not-so-veiled threats that he can do the same thing to Do-kyung if he chooses, but Do-kyung invites him to do whatever he wants — he’s not scared.

Tae-jin reminds Do-kyung that he admitted his ruining his business was an accident but hitting his car wasn’t, and asks, “You were already falling for her then, weren’t you?” Now he understands why Do-kyung attacked him then, but he doesn’t get why he’s still dragging this out.

He says that now, they all need to go back to their rightful places. The implication is that if Do-kyung does as he’s told, Tae-jin will let all this drop and not seek revenge. As he leaves, he turns back and says the words he said in Do-kyung’s vision: “Somehow we’ve ended up back with the right people.”

Hoon fails at fixing the problems with his script, and he knows it, so Hee-ran suggests they work on it together at her place. Hoon has trouble because of Hee-ran’s scantily-clad legs, and when she lies down for a nap and tells him to keep working, it doesn’t help his concentration. In his defense, she’s wearing a slip and not much else.

He panics and falls all over himself when Hee-ran’s bare legs get too close for comfort, practically throwing himself down the stairs in an effort to get away. She finally realizes what he was thinking, and kicks him out.

Do-kyung goes to the movies, and a fight scene onscreen morphs into his tussle with Hae-young, when he’d kissed her. He recalls their brief happy times, then their breakup, when she’d asked him to just stay with her a little longer. As he’s walking home he sees her coming towards him on the sidewalk, but she walks past him without saying a word.

He asks where she’s going, and she just keeps walking. In his vision of this moment, Do-kyung had turned and apologized for speaking to her, but this time when he speaks, it’s to tell her to change her shoes, because they sound uncomfortable.

And this time, instead of meeting Tae-jin and taking his hand like she did in Do-kyung’s vision, Hae-young refuses Tae-jin’s outstretched hand. But again Do-kyung turns away too soon, and misses this change.

Jin-sang tries to cheer his friend up, saying that he has exciting news that will make Do-kyung forget everything. Soo-kyung pops her head out of her room to say that she has news that will shut Jin-sang up, but Jin-sang motions that he’ll talk to her later.

He offers to take Do-kyung out, but Do-kyung just lies on the floor in defeat. The position reminds him of the end of his vision, where he’s lying in the street dying.

Do-kyung was right about Hae-young’s shoes — she hobbles him with bleeding feet from wearing the heels all day. She’s still feeling run-down and says she’ll be sleeping the next day, and Mom wonders why the medicine isn’t working.

As Hae-young lies in bed exhausted and ill, she thinks that at least wearing those uncomfortable shoes distracted her from thinking of Do-kyung all day. Everything reminds her of him — the shoes, even her bra insert that went flying when he caught her. Everywhere she looks, she’s reminded, and she almost welcomes the painful distractions.

She thinks about seeing him today, and how even as she walked away, her mind was crying at her to turn back. The pain her shoes cause keeps her going, because the physical pain distracts her from her emotional pain, if temporarily. “Even if I’m sick, I feel better.”

The next morning, Mom sees that Hae-young hasn’t been taking her medicine, and finds her unconscious and unresponsive. She’s rushed to the hospital, and in her fever-driven haze, she thinks she sees Do-kyung there. Once she’s a bit better and wakes, she’s angry that her first thought is of him.

She sits up and the nurse pulls back the curtain around her bed, to reveal that Do-kyung is there in the next bed, getting an IV for exhaustion. They look at leach other for a long moment, then Hae-young reaches out… and pushes her curtain back in place.

Do-kyung stands to leave, then stops, and remembers his vision where he’d called back to her Don’t get sick. Instead, he says, “I’m glad to see you. It was unfair that I was the only sick one. I’m so glad you’re sick, too.” You tell her, buddy.

He continues that if he could turn back time, he would ruin her wedding the exact same way. He’d make sure she moved in next door and meet her again. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. But I’m not sorry I ruined your wedding, dammit!”

He almost leaves then, but he turns back a second time, to deliver a softer apology. He says this is how he truly feels, and that he got sick because he couldn’t hug her. This time, he really leaves, but as he walks home he hears running footsteps behind him.

He turns, and catches Hae-young in his arms. They hug, then pull back and smile at each other, and Hae-young kisses him.

COMMENTS

Okay, putting aside any advice I would give if these were real people and remembering that this is “just” a drama… at the point that these two are making themselves sick just to avoid feeling their emotional pain, I just want them to get together to make the hurting stop. They can just be dysfunctional together, and everyone will be happy, right? This level of self-abuse can’t be good for either of them, and they seriously needed to either give in and get back together, or someone was going to end up dead. Oh wait…

Strangely though, our Hae-young’s very public humiliation seemed to have somehow given her an emotional reset, and she definitely has come out the other side calmer and more accepting (still damaged, but better, you know?). Maybe it wasn’t the best way to do it, but she seemed on a dangerous emotional spiral, and feeling like the whole world was laughing at her sort of caused her to just stop everything and think. She’s realized that embarrassment isn’t the end of the world, and being compared to someone else isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Sadly, it also caused her to give upon Do-kyung, though I can’t blame her — she hung in there a lot longer than I think most people would, considering that he wasn’t just pretending to be apathetic, but actively pushing her away. In Hae-young’s defense, Do-kyung’s actions have been confusing from the beginning, the way he would care for her like a boyfriend then tell her he didn’t want her that way. But I do think that this is what needed to happen, that they both took a step back and did some serious thinking.

It’s a step in the right direction that Do-kyung is finally thinking about how he relates to others, and how he never opens up his heart. Ever since his father died (because young Do-kyung seems like an open and happy child) and he was left with his needy narcissist of a mother, he’s had to shut down inside just to survive and grow up mostly sane. It’s been his primary problem ever since he met our Hae-young — that she’s forcing him to confront his inner feelings, and he’s never done that before. I think that all of his excuses not to get close to her were really just walls he was throwing up to protect himself once again from actually feeling anything, because if he feels something, he might get hurt. But our Hae-young got in anyway through sheer determination, and now Do-kyung has some hard work to do, because while he’s gotten her back, he still has to figure out how to keep her.

I do believe that Do-kyung thought he loved the other Hae-young, as much as he’s capable of loving anyone that isn’t Hoon, Soo-kyung, or Jin-sang. As he explained, he felt pity for her, which is as close to love as he’s ever let himself get. She loved him, and made him basically happy, and I think he was willing to settle for mostly-happy. I believe that his hurt over the way she left wasn’t so much true heartbreak, as feeling that once again, he let himself open up even a little to someone, and they left him.

So it was good to see him fighting his visions, making small changes and refusing to do or say what he saw himself doing and saying. He’s finally taking responsibility for his own actions, making his own emotional choices and moving out of his comfort zone. And it worked, the small changes affecting small reactions, such as when he changed the vision and asked Hae-young to move back in, and soon after, she didn’t answer when Tae-jin called as she did in the vision. Then later he said something different to Hae-young when he saw her on the street, and she didn’t take Tae-jin’s hand as she did in the premonition. I practically cheered when he yelled at her that he was glad she was sick too, and that he’d gladly ruin her wedding again, because it was the first time he’s let himself act out on his own anger and frustration at this situation, and you know it felt good. I was starting to get frustrated myself at how Do-kyung keeps missing the altered results of his actions, but then that hug happened, and I got goosebumps. There’s still the small matter of Do-kyung’s looming accident, but by proving that he could change what he saw in his visions, I have faith that he can find a way to avoid his death, as well.

I went yay for dokyung for voicing his own, honest opinion and not voicing his vision in this episode, though the part when they both pushing each other is a bit annoying for me. It's bothersome and clearly they have another things to do aside that being sick to avoid their heartbreak. I almost thought haeyoung were going to in worse state considering her mom's response while found her.

And I can't wait for jinsang to know that he got a baby ?

Who else replays the last 5 mins at least 100 times? *-*
"I got sick, bcause I couldn't hug you" is damn corny but also swoon-worthy omggg...

At this time, Other Oh Haeyoung still manages to be so self-centered, I'm in awe...is she really sorry to Our Haeyoung?

I'm torn between telling-not telling Jinsang he's the father... can he magically turn to a responsible father/man once he knows? grrr,,he might be a good bff, but as a man he's a total trash...

It's corny, but if he'd busted out with an "I love you" I would've been pissed because he's not that guy. Getting angry in a strangely broad way? Absolutely! Apologizing immediately because he's not that guy either? Also yes! But no full-blown confessions.

And I really appreciate that the thing Do Kyung misses is the hugging. Because yeah - even more than kissing her, hugging her is EXACTLY what he seems to want to do all the time. And it's also the only thing he explicitly asked for from her, and so shyly.

You have to wonder if his mom ever hugged him meaningfully. Ji Sang's reaction to Soo Kyung hugging him shows that it's a very rare event. Poor guy's starved for affection.

If there had been an "I love you," I would've cringed...
Because it would've felt so disingenuous.

Him saying "sorry, but i'm not sorry" for ruining her wedding what was Hae Young needed to hear because it made that choice about HER. His love for HER.

The thing that really bothered her about him ruining her wedding was that she interpreted it as an expression of his feelings for Other Hae Young, that he loved her so much he wasn't able to let her go.

So for him to say that he would make the same decision again, but because he couldn't stand to lose her. That's what she needed to hear.

I don't know what it's like for most people but on a personal physical touch is huge. Someone who doesn't receive it regularly and wasn't raised to accept that kind of unrestricted affection will crave. Personally speaking a hug and a kiss means so much to me. Just holding someones hands makes me giddy especially if I like them.

Replayed the reunion hug and kiss countless of time.
I loved the moment after OHY hugged him and PDK dared not smile until OHY did. His beautiful smile after that was insanely beautiful.
I loved how OHY kissed him first too. What a lovely scene to see them kissing while smiling.
PDK, you can shape your own future, Lee Jae han and Park Hae young did so can you. Fighting!

I recall that there's a disappointment last week
so I don't agree back then but bear with me
I thought the show is about bad guy who turn into nice guy after realizing the harsh truth with receiving love he thought he didn't deserve and nice guy (he is shown like that in the earlier) who get dragged into the mud for no apparent reason that try to climb his mistake and realize what he lost----- initial thought
then
it actually about a guy who don't need to be at fault since he never double check, gets and receive the love with girl that suddenly found him as the one and another guy who apparently a bad guy because sudden anger management even in he get shafted in the earlier series and got nothing to back him now----- thought of now.

I do understand why the stories are disappointing for some people, I admit I like it only for the cute things now, the kissed and the reciprocal love. I hope this show can manage a good characterization rather than "I only show you this side because we are OTP" rather clear understanding. The other people outside OTP that have a miserable life, including OHY2, doesn't really have a backup, they had no one while the OTP who clearly has tons of problem too gets abundant of help. It isn't about the number but isn't this about looking at a real person, accept their flaw and help them type of show?

I don't understand how DK suddenly become calm yet also very unsettling as a person. How TJ have anger issue despite he has "sad" back story and he seems of sacrificing type. Maybe I don't understand why I like this show anymore, just watch it for cute things and some smile cause they all seems to behave irrationally just for the sake of making a drama has longer time.
IDK how long they will drag the story and it essentially the same problem over and over with "at least we love each other and F at other people problem" excuses.

Now I understand why it's disappointing. It's not about the guy or who she choose or the way they lived, it's the redundant inspirational things when the writer take it back, that no one is at fault when it's about love that gets accepted, even if they are, they can wash it by love. On flip view, TJ can make a spin-off series when to finding another girl --as someone who get bad fate near wedding and find out the girl left him even when she finds the truth because love just not his fate got depressed-- relieving DK way of life based on the writer intention, then it seems the disappointment from last week is indeed make sense. The writing of character deceives the bling of the story. Everyone need to participate in making the initial pairing happen when I think they all need to talk about life since decades ago and not just jump into "love solve it all" commitment when they already got the lesson.

I do like how OHY realize her inferiority complex but it seems like "I don't need you to forgive me but I am sorry cause it indeed my fault" and still telling OHY2 that thing, are you really over her/OHY then? or it just because DK love you now?
ps : maybe I just facing the bar too high or this show is already overhyped/overrated. Kinda understand the rating down, people realize it gonna do some old troupe again with no character to sympathize, even the supposedly good guy will turn evil for plot reason and left it with that.

True. Its getting boring and I feel like their going back and forth. Once I knew that Oh Hae-young is an episode 20 drama, I knew from that point that this drama certainly gonna drag. There's not much story to tell. Starting from previous episodes, it seemed like it was a different drama focused on something which I cannot explain. The sparks died down and the so-called "visions" of the male lead has been rigged. He's been seeing other things now asside from Hae Young and what's that? whats the point? Im starting to get tired. They should have made it a 16 episode drama. If they keep doing this, then that "magic" that this drama has brought to the viewers will slowly died down and disappear and will turn this into another "ordinary drama" which "started great but loses its impact from the middle towards the end".

And I just dont understand or is it just me that has this feeling because I told my sister the way I see it but she disagree, you know I feel like the show has not shown the me against the world love of the main leads, yes they love each other but it wasn't that great of a love as i felt/saw shown in the drama and I felt like all these "I cant live without you" all those "dilemmas and cryings and disappointments are exagerrated. I really cant feel it. Sure I can feel their love but not to that point. You know, as I was watching this drama, I suddenly thought of that drama "I'm Sorry, I Love You". The girl committed suicide and died along with the male lead's grave, but I never questioned it. Its not like I am justifying what she has done (I condemn suicide) but I can really feel her pain, their pain, her love, his love and all those challenges they went through. I know where those loneliness and actions came from. But here, especially DK, I don't know. Even for Hae-young its questionable but mostly its on DK.

-On the side note, Eric should really step up his acting, his straight up monotonous voice/acting with no facial expressions and stoic body language isn't disrupting, really. It was bearable in the beginning, and I somehow did not mind it but seriously, as the drama move episode to episode, his acting has not change and it becomes more and more visible.

So true! I feel bad for TJ and OHY2 who got blame just because the audience couldn't truly see their back story and feelings.
Tbh I watched the show just because I'm curious about TJ and feel sorry for him, I mean he is the victim here (in a hope creating OTP). He lost that much now he have to lose his woman too? I dont know it's just so unfair, they made him look like a victim now he's the bad guy? Oh no he just poor guy.

I agreed to you about Taejin being the victim in here but lose his woman? For me It's Taejin fault. Taejin and Haeyoung are a couple who about to get married, but Taejin didn't have the courage to told the truth to Haeyoung, to the woman who would spend all of her life with him for forever. Just because Taejin's company went bankrupt it doesn't mean he should break-up with Haeyoung. He just could tell Haeyoung that someone ruined his company and give her 2 choices, whether she willing to wait for him not matter how long it takes or leave him (for good).

Something is off with TJ.. it feels like he values his pride over OHY even now.. If loose her to I won't be able to stay in Korea.. So if he gets her it will restore his position regardless of how she feels... It's not like I'm siding with DK.. I think he also has many issues but he knows it and TJ is just too blind to accept his own faults..

Required fields are marked *

That is true, we truly understand that TJ went bankrupt but I thought love is about accepting each other flaws and all - so shouldn't he be honest about telling OHY about things that he is facing which I'm pretty sure OHY would understand if he did so. (And then he disappeared, and the way he explained about his probs when he met OHY again, is...just not enough)

I mean in a realistic world, don't you need to be honest with each other? Communication & honesty were not there (between OHY->TJ->OHY & Pretty OHY->DK->Pretty OHY)

I realized that when TJ/Pretty OHY re-appeared, they pretended that everything is all okay now it is not.

TJ too, needs to find out the real reason behind his bankruptcy & we all knew it was because of his partner. (However, I do want another romcom drama on his storyline with him being the male lead, hihi)

I don't know, but to me this drama really potrays the real world we are living in, I'm pretty sure all of us have been in OHY/DK situations, at least once. I'm feeling the drama, thanks PD & Team for producing such a realistic drama. (I never put high expectation on this AOHY when it was first aired, but honestly - the storyline is SPECTACULARLY AMAZING and I'm secretly hoping for a memorable ending)

Nah the writer just does't want to give TJ nice 2nd chance story like DK,
He did wrong and realize,
He try hard to make it up
He knew he can't
What the guy suppose to do?
Crash someone wedding then get close to the bride after..

This is how the story cheat on 2nd lead
Yeah it overrated now, people rate it too high

0

The story didn't cheat on the 2nd lead. TJ is a violent a-hole, period.

He's a typical Korean male lead who values his pride and image over the feelings of the woman he supposedly loves. Kdramas usually give those jerks a second chance, TJ doesn't deserve one.

0

I think it pretty clear that TJ understands he is at fault for the marriage fall out.

that's why he asked forgiveness and he deserves the 2nd chance

It's pretty clear that both TJ and OHY at fault on the off marriage but the story shifted him for convenient timing to make the OTP happen

OTP assertion can happen with or without TJ but the writer needs to make TJ the bad guy so the viewer believe to the OTP which is unnecessary

God, you guys keep wanting to spin it as if OHY had fault for the break up.

She didn't. It was all Tae Jin. She was a messed up person back then, and Tae Jin took advantage of that to break up. She couldn't have done anything.

TJ doesn't deserve a second chance. He's violent and a total jerk.

0

TJ lack backstory to make his action understandable
On could argue he got really hurt by the investment and jail —to favor his changer attitude and favor his revenge
One could said he has anger management since before —to favor he is not the right man overall

Both way,he’ll got it hard for the story to favor DK and OHY
So yeah we need to hate him because he happen to be the bad guy now

0

There is literally nothing in his backstory that will justify him making Hae Young think that she's not good enough.

Stop defending him.

Oh god, those were terrible but I did enjoy the "screw you!" sentiment behind them. Especially when in one scene, a mom casually offered a drink to a visitor, and when she came back she had a Subway takeout cup with a straw for him.

Totally normal! Totally normal, to apparently not have any beverages in the house at all and to then LEAVE your house (with the stranger still in it) to find the nearest fast food chain, then come back and not even attempt to dress it up by putting it in a glass. Nope, just stick a straw in it.

I chalk it up to a hazard of her profession. Think of all the photoshoots of food pron NOHY's undoubtedly had to go through. ;-)

As for clean-up with a garbage disposal, sending compostable food waste down the drain mingles it with the sewage stream, and produces a lot of municipal solid waste (aka innocuous-sounding "biosolids," which have to be sent to a landfill -- or applied to farmland). Some municipalities, such as the town where I grew up, have prohibited the use of garbage disposals for this reason.

Wonderful! I have to go to work soon, but I loved how changing the visions started small with him just learning to say what was really in his heart. At first the ripples were small enough to be missed (well mostly because I suspect he was too afraid of seeing the Tae-jin premonitions come true to check), but it finally culminated with him laying out the lowest of truths about his feelings: that he can never be truly sorry about ruining her wedding because, if he hadn't, he would have never been able to fall in with love her. I just love it.

They...are so dysfunctional, it's true. But it's so clear that they need each other right now. Life is too much of a struggle as it is and it makes no sense not to surrender to happiness when it comes your way.

Dramafever really dropped the ball with the subs for this episode. There were multiple translations that were just lazy. I don't hate Dramafever as much as I think some other people do. Viki, 9 out of 10 times is better. I still watch a lot on DF though because I can watch it on my tv in 1080p through my Roku. This is the first time where I felt the DF subs impaired the quality of the episode.

The only problem with Viki is that sometimes I feel in the subbers' efforts to translate the nuances of some words, they end up overcompensating and making some of the sentences too complex to easily read or follow.

This is why I go back forth between the two from drama to drama. It really depends on what you want out of the subs.

0

Viki is available on Roku, but not all of the shows are on Roku. I'm able to watch OHYA on Viki only on the computer.

Agree that Viki is almost always better for subs, though, and now will have to watch the end of Ep 13 again there. :)

I squealed so much at the end!!! Oh my gosh FINALLY. Haha glad to see my OTP back together. As for Tae Jin, am I the only one thinking he is the biggest douche in the history of ever? Like he's so demanding and pushy and mean. Also, anger management issues much? I know that not many characters in this drama have perfect temperaments, but he seems ready to snap. Did anyone else feel unsteady/threatened when he was talking OHY into going out with him? Honestly prison must have done a number on him, either that or he was always a jerk. I hope Do Kyung and Oh Hae Young have many happy moments before shit inevitably hits the fan again.

0

I wanted to swoon over the ending of this episode, I really, really did. I mean, how romantic is that?!

But, yet, I was left kind of disappointed. I watched that hospital scene three times, thinking I had missed something, but it just wasn't there for me.

DK had hurt OHY so much, in so many ways, that he needed to make up for that. He needed to prove to her, to show her, to convince her. But all he did was say a different thing four times. Yes, I understand that might have difficult for him, given his guarded heart and all, but it just didn't seem like enough.

Maybe it's my American brain, which wants obvious words "I'm not sorry I ruined the wedding BECAUSE . . ." but his "confession" still felt guarded, still felt too safe. I want to see DK throw himself into the deep end of the pool, regardless of anything else, rather than tentatively dip one toe into the kiddie area.

And, to top it all off, OHY was the one who ran to him. AGAIN. He said the words and left, and she had to do all the activity. His passivity is driving me crazy! I want to see HIM run to HER, not her over and over. Every time he wants her, she leaps after him, but he can't be there for her when she needs it.

I love, love, love the show, and I love Eric foreva, but DK still has a long way to go to redeem himself in my book. Not because of the whole wedding thing, but because he hurt OHY more than anyone else in the world, so he needs to now love her more than anything else in the world. And I need to see him doing it. Doing something. Active. Proving himself. He better.

I was really happy when she got to reject him in the beginning - like I know he's the protagonist and w/e but I was still fistpumping for a solid minute when she finally got to be the one to say no.

I was kind of annoyed that she ended up running back him so quickly afterwards too but I think that's pretty true to OHY's personality thus far as a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve and is excruciatingly honest and decisive even if it's embarrassing and almost too direct for social standards. Plus, DK would be pretty creepy if he started wrist-grabbing her and forcing kissies, which is almost inevitably where male leads tend to go when they stop being obtuse and evasive as f. Iunno... the ending of this episode isn't perfect, but at the very least, it's pretty true to their characters.

0

Required fields are marked *

I think it'll be weird if he runs to her when she hasn't forgiven him yet. He's leaving the decision to her, all he can do is try to show her his remorse/love.

But I'd like to see that scene where Do-kyung runs to her and jumps. Then she turns away and he falls flat on his face instead. XD OHY will probably laugh and they'll make up right after.

Required fields are marked *

Ha! So I'm not the only one who's imagined that scene happening... :P

Also agree that PDK did all he really could have done. Not only is he not the most adept romancer, he also can't just forcefully disregard her wishes when she was so clearly burdened by his presence. He found ways to get his true feelings across to her without crossing the barriers she set for herself and I actually liked that. It's realistic.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Precisely because Do Kyung has hurt her so much, he feels it would be unfair to expect her to forgive him so easily and he doesn't want to push it. As much as I also wanted Do Kyung to be more active/exude grander gestures, it still would perhaps be too much of a drastic change in his repressed personality. He loves her but also respects her by not forcing her to comply to his will, rather he chooses to emotionally torture himself. Not to mention, perhaps anything more than what he had done this episode would have been verged on borderline pushy/aggressive (which wouldn't have been FAIR to Hae Young, given how much he had put her through already). Contrast this with Tae Jin's subtly commanding attitude in wanting to get back together with Hae Young. He's only doing it for himself, despite Hae Young's obvious signs that she no longer feels anything for him.

But it would definitely be nice to see Do Kyung exhibit more overt expressions of his love for Hae Yong later on!!!

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

DK already said and shown, multiple times, that he wants her back, so he already "ran" to her. But she rejected him, so he's respecting that. He doesn't throw himself on her, because that should be her decision, not his.

I think you're also missing out on another important part that DK pointed out: That they both got themselves sick because they've been apart. Hae Young already knew it was the case with her, but Do Kyung voicing out his own issues with getting sick because of the break up means that they're on the same self-destructive mode, and keeping it up would only be detrimental.

0

+10000

The fact that he was in enough pain to be glad to see her in it too showed her that his feelings were just as hard to overcome as hers. Hae-young has never appreciated people saying what they think is best for her to hear. What Hae-young has wanted all along is for him to love her enough to be 'selfish' for her, rather than just enough to do what was 'right' in light of their circumstances.

I'd also like to note that Do-kyung continuously said sorry over the course of the last few episodes, but was never able to articulate what for. He's sorry for a lot of things, I believe, but he finally addressed what he was most sorry for: that he can't truly feel sorry at all for what he's done to cause her pain and bring her into his life. The happiness he's experienced with her is enough to make him grateful for how things have happened, as messy, chaotic, and painful as they are.

OHY's outfit perfectly matched the hospital. The blues and greens, there's even a stripe of creamy yellow. It was a great way to make her look diminished and washed-out, like she's so dispirited she's become part of the scenery.

And I'm now realizing how amusingly sound-oriented Do Kyung's visions are. The view is blurry, the words are fuzzed, but there are weird singular sounds that are given extra oomph, like the plastic cup smacking off the back of his head. Ha.

Haha. "Did I miss something?"

I agree. When did little bro suddenly get back to his not-underage girlfriend. Sigh... Ah well. Maybe it's just a byproduct of the live shoot confusion, or maybe we can chock it up to the characters being crazy.

I kinda hope we see OHY1 start excelling at her job. I feel like that's something that has not been explored yet... But beyond all the cutesy stuff that is happening (which I love), I would like to see a little bit more growth from our OHY. But more than that I think I need for our OTP not to die, and for the ending to be happy. Please, please!

The pacing did get slower do to the extension but it's only obvious because the decision was taken recently, had they decided earlier, it would not have felt draggy. But IMO it is still not bad. I do think because of the extension, they were able to bring our OTP/characters to the lowest low (eg. Dirt Hae-young's call to the radio station, series of irrational behaviours by some of the characters, etc). However, it also means that they get to show us more lovey dovey scene in the following episodes so yayyyy

I really like that they explored the theme of Fate, how you can change your fate with your action in this episode. Honestly since Asians believed that Fate exists, it has always been a bit depressing, that feeling of "Whatever you do, this is your Fate, just accept it" (in drama Five Children and Flower in Prison this is what the elders have said at one point to our main character). Recently I learned that that was not the case at all, Fate is decided in advance, yes, but it depends on your action/effort (eg. You've slept at 2am, that's why you woke up late and missed that bus, NOT you will miss your bus today, so you will fell asleep at 2am,or you studied smartly, that's why you aced the exam, NOT you will ace your exam, so you somehow everything you've read came out in the exam, etc).

My prediction now would be Do-kyung will still meet his death, but he would die without regret, a man that is successful in life and love, or, he will get into the car accident anyway, but he will not die.

And I am even more disappointed in myself that the words also affected me :( Am I also that easy? HAHA

I think Oh Hae Young deserves more. I really hope that she'll stop saying that she's "easy". I honestly thought that in the next few episodes, she would change to be less easy, and he would change to be more proactive. It's never too late, though.

Please let me see a PROACTIVE DO KYUNG, show!

Allow me to be differ. She's not 'runnning to him after few words'. That was not the first time Do-kyung tried to reach out to Hae-young after the whole truth blown up. He did it before when he came to Hae-young's house and get chased by her mother. He also did it when they meet the house owner ahjussi. What made the hospital scene so powerful to me is Do-kyung poured his heart out as a last (?) effort to change Hae-young's mind. That whole sorry-but-im-not-sorry dialogue showed how much Hae-young's mean to him. As other commenters have said earlier, it was very much needed for Hae-young's to take the next step.

I luvvv our OTP and I'm overjoyed that they're finally back together because they're so lovely.

But I can't wait for Ji Sang to find out he's becoming a father! Talk about a life changing event; it's just what he needs to turn his life around.

Whoa, wasn't expecting this recap release!

Anyway, I watched this episode last night and I'm SO glad this episode wasn't as painful as the past two. ;A; Some really sweet moments this time.

I felt deeply for Soo Kyung in this episode. It really hit me how Jin Sang is hurting her with his harsh comments about her pregnancy and how ignorant is he about her whole situation. Can't wait for him to know. He is not the ideal guy, but I hope he will be decent and work it out with SK.

I like that Do Kyung is finally changing his visions by actively doing the opposite! He's voicing his feelings to our Oh Hae Young. <3 He's not able to change some people in his visions, but his new moves has affected OHY and her reactions. He had two visions of her answering Han Tae Jin's call and holding his hand, but our OHY actually does not go through as envisioned.

It's good to see OHY is trying to be stronger and not cling to him, but she still cares about him. Her pain is so palpable. She loves him so much that she's physically harming herself to distract her from thinking about him. ..... That is just brutal and heartbreaking. But she's gradually moving past this stage.

I love DK's statement to OHY that he was glad to see her. Just little things like that is important.

That LAST scene. I love the camera angle, hinting at OHY's shoes and the sound effects! That heartbeat. Tears instantly sprung to my eyes when I saw her shoes and the rushed movement. Their hug. Their kiss! Love it all. Excited to see the happy moments again.

I like what you wrote here Cocoboo:
"It's good to see OHY is trying to be stronger and not cling to him, but she still cares about him. "
OHY has a spontaneous love. She is expressive, I think that is a gift. DK is modest with his feelings, that is also a good thing. OHY doesn't let her hurt stand in the way to show DK that she cares. It is neat to see they are not giving up, that's what it takes when we love..we have to be courageous.

1. Say it with me, people: THERAPY.

2. This level of codependency is soooo not healthy.

3. I love the music in this ep. Does anyone know what the song is when OHY is riding the bus? Love it.

4. This episode should be entitled "Backhanded Compliments" or "Jinsang Shoves His Foot So Far Down His Throat the Toes are Peeking out of His Colon."

5. *eyes the punctuation for AP Style*

6. *realizes self is a nerd*

7. The bit about OHY wearing shoes that don't fit to distract from emotional pain? Fabulous writing. That's such a nice line.

8. Dad is clearly useless. MOM is piggybacking OHY to the hospital. Ahjumma!

(Have we passed through the storm yet?)

2. Yeah, I wonder about that, too. The second thing I thought after the end (after replaying the last 5 minutes 10 times), is that they're the type of couple who would die within a few days of each other.

I've heard it a lot of times for old people and it's usually very sweet, but they're still young.

So, my theory (after having seen the next ep. aswell) is that he did change his fate and he won't get hit by a car...buuut not only did he change HIS fate, he also changed OHYs...so I thing instead of him it's her that might get hit by the car because they will be together in that moment.

But i still think (hope) it will be a happy ending after all, and she will recover

DK's visions could just be a warning - don't screw up! You could still end up like this!

Darnit! Even though I loved Do Kyung's hospital speech I really wish that he had to chase Oh Hae Young a bit more. I feel like he's gotten away with something somehow. As if compared to the pain he cause (or thinks he caused) his actions/words have not made up for it enough. But I guess love doesn't really work like that. He said exactly what she needed to hear, just in time.

Other Oh Hae Young and her sad salad. She is actually perfect for that product placement, she also looks like someone who'd be in those 'woman smiling at salad' stock photos, so I feel like it all works.

Tae Jin is seeming a little scary. I don't know if he's just a broken man pushed too far or if he's always been a little scary but *shivers*.

The ending was so sweet... The way they stare, smile and so on really give me feelings they're crazy in love.

I seriously think that Seo Hyun Jin has crush on Eric after seeing their BTS. The girl always use her overly laugh to hide her feelings. And this is the first time I see her so excited to do skinships and those kissing scenes.

And Eric, how can you be so good in kissing >< I love his gesture, the way he always smile while kissing her. It looks so natural.

I think Eric is one of the actor that really comfortable and looks so natural with skinship. And it effects his female leads in this case is Seo Hyun Jin. This is the first time I see Seo Hyun Jin very enjoy doing skinship. I also sense perhaps the girl likes him. She seems really enjoying his kissing lol. Totally different with her previous dramas.

The Sweet Answer:
He's the kind of guy that is a dork in life so he wears his heart on his sleeves. It is so much easier for a person like him to invest in the simple things that a partner would like (kissing in this case). In short he's just that great a guy.

The Real Answer:
He's 38!!. Men get better with age and experience. Scientifically proven by testing with many men by me ;)
In all honesty that is really it.

The Dirty Answer
Eric has been in a boy band for two decades with a massive following of girls. He has to have picked up some skills. I'm just surprised it doesn't include a few kids. In the US there woudl be a giant string of them. Kissing skills is better for him I guess :P

when you said the key words were boy band, I thought the dirty answer was something like, "because Eric is a member of Shinhwa and they are known for their skinship, he has experience from kissing his members and touching them." I meant it in a friendly skinship manner~ I've seen a bunch of videos of them kissing, it's kind of awesome.

I think it just simply because he got used to date many girls. Obviously from the way he touch the girls or doing any skinship with them, it looks too natural and his gestures to them just likely his habits. This is Eric we are talking about. Even the non kpopers like me, know him as one of the hot guy in Korea with tons of girls chasing and stalking everywhere.

Eric is always good in kissing. But the Marriage Not Dating (& Yeon Woo-jin's) kissing scenes were awesome, even if they didn't have an angsty wall kiss.

Then again, Han Ye Sul is the exception I guess… Because She is the only Eric female lead that doesn't have chemistry with Eric at all.. Han Ye Sul is so awkward around Eric. Well It take two tango to make skinship looks natural. The girl has to get used a lot of skinship as well. Here I didn't expected Seo Hyun Jin act so naturally doing alot of skinship with Eric. Well great actress doesn't equal to enable having great chemistry. I need to watch Seo Hyun Jin previous work, to confirm she get used doing alot of skinship. LOL

Plus their drama had behind-the-scenes drama. I think HYS was awkward with the whole production of Spy Myung-wol because of her insisting they honor the part of the contract about giving her enough rest. :( Never mind trying to act sweet... just being on set must've been really weird.

I watched her previous works. She seems awkward when it came to skinship. But her actings were good since the beginning. I'm glad she got recognized in this drama. Her kissing skills absolutely improve in this series. The only good kiss that I saw was from Three Musketeer but still she didn't open her mouth like in this drama. PD can help for directing but the execution still in actor's hand. That makes people think she really enjoying Eric's accompany XD

Well, Every ex-guy she met always kept saying they are sorry, that it makes her feels sucks to be considered as a mere pityful person in the eyes of the guy she used to loved. Hearing Do Kyung is not sorry at all to ruin her wedding because it makes him close to her that what makes her hear soften...

And I actually understand why Do Kyung abit angry to Ha Yeoung. I mean, It's okay if she is mad at him ruining her wedding with someone she is still yearning for. But she is already with him, why mad? It's as if she is still has feeling towards TJ that she has the right to be angry at him ruining her wedding and make him a bad guy.. I guess he is abit jealous and has alot of pride.

Huh? Huh? What, huh?

I didn't read DoKyung's final outburst as him being mad at HaeYoung but simply frustrated at himself. He's letting himself confess the multitude of emotions that he's been holding back and confessing that he really doesn't know what to do to gain her forgiveness just because he doesn't know what to do other than apologise, which she's not accepting.

Being angry at someone for breaking up a marriage does not mean that one is not over the other guy. He knows that TaeJin has nothing to do with it but his acts have deeply hurt her and that's why he's angry. I think this time, there was pride, but it's not induced by TaeJin.

I wish I had the ability to foresee the stupid sh*t I'm about to say before I say it ? That would come in handy. The amount of visions DK got this episode was actually a little comical. It was like his brain was going "Dude...stoooop..."

I like how as much as this show focuses on sound, they also recognize the importance of silence. I was sooo glad that when Hae Young went running to him, they didn't have some ballad BLASTING over the moment. The muted sound of her footsteps and their heartbeats made the moment feel so much more intimate and effective.

the only thing that really bothered me was the fact that our OHY, after being put through the wringer by Do-Kyung several times, had this crazy resolve to not go back to him, to make him suffer and whatnot. and that resolve lasted all of 1 episode. like????? I don't know about y'all but I actually did kind of need to see Do-Kyung on his knees, saying sorry to her.
Sigh.
But I guess she (our OHY) has already said many times about her main quality: "easy" so can't really say I didn't expect this.

The show went off the rails for me last week I like angst but it was all just too much. Too much crying, too much self destructive and pathetic behavior. I don't know that anything could have gotten it back on track for me, so while this episode wasn't particularly satisfying, by the time DK and OHY were making themselves sick, I was just ready for them to reunite so the misery would end.

I'm an oddball, but while I can't say I particularly like DK, I don't mind his character arc. OHY, on the other hand, is such a disappointment as a character for me.

Required fields are marked *

Okay, I'm really glad they found their way back each other, but why am I feeling uneasy? It seems too early to celebrate their happy moments. I really like how Do Kyung takes steps to be true to himself and make his own future, how he fights for getting her back, but I'm surprised it went well this easy. I keep thinking that there will be some bigger unexpected twists later, don't forget we still have Mr Jang and Tae Jin, whom I see the potential of being some evil villain. We still have 5 episodes left, that means anything can be possible to happen.

But seeing the future always comes with at a great cost, that's what I'm worried about. He can't completely change the future, so I assume Do Kyung will still be dying somehow, eventually. The writers and producers might have some secret weapon to knocked us out. But whatever the reason, hopefully we'll have realistic yet satisfying ending. This show really deserves that.

Wow, this was fast.

And this is the first time I've ever been convinced that there's such a thing as "death by heartbreak".

I love making IMPcaps for this show because it's so pretty. I'm learning quite a bit about angles and depth from this director. Love it.

I know that "to be fair", DoKyung should have chased her more but I'm okay with HaeYoung accepting this much. Love is not about fairness but how one can make up for the other's weakness and how each make the other better. She knows now that DoKyung sucks at love and she's not willing to wait so long until he gets it right. She's willing to be with him as he gets it right and I think that's fabulous. Go, HaeYoung!

She seizes the moment and lets herself be happy whenever she can and that's saying a lot for many people who hold back because of fear, pride and general idiocy.

If there's only so much time in your life, and you can't tell what happens in the future, why not grab the happiness that comes now? Better to have been happy than to be a sad sack.

Agreed! All the folks insisting that in fairness DK needed to "suffer" more have really missed the point of the show. there isn't any "fairness". Everyone hurts and loves differently. The point is to open up and find balance not play games.

This will probably get me smashed by every girl I know but the stupid game playing is probably the worst habit of people. I need to wait this many minutes for his call. he has to make the move first. Does no one get that it hardly matters in the end?

"Love is not about fairness but how one can make up for the other’s weakness and how each make the other better."

- Exactly. I may be in the minority, but I didn't really want to see PDK suddenly turning into a master of grand gestures overnight. Particularly because those were never the things that attracted her in the first place. The line about changing her shoes was the perfect way to show he cared for her wellbeing, even if it was just a small step.

I also think that it's a bit harder to chase Hae-young when she drew a clear line for herself based on his behavior in the past. I actually like that Do-kyung was respectful of her wishes, while also taking the initiative to make it clear to her that he wanted to try again with her.

Sure, perhaps he should have fought harder, but his outburst made clear to her that he loved her too much to be completely 'sorry' about his sin. After all the apologies she'd gotten this episode, it was important for her to hear that he'd be willing to bear the burden of his guilt all over again just to meet her. And it definitely showed her that he was ready to overcome their barriers and find happiness. At that point, what's the point in suffering?

I'm really surprised at the fact that what Do Kyung saw was not exactly what happened. It was probably what he felt was gonna happen and gave a false vision to himself. I hope the death was a vision to make him yolo. Please don't die everrrr.

And I totally ship Appa and Do Kyung when they had short elope scene from Omma. So cuuuuute. I love them and how Appa is so protective to Do Kyung.

Oh that last scene made the whole episode worth it. I watch this ep just for that last scene. I'm glad he act the against his vision. When he was mean, he cared. When he just gave a simple, don't be sick, he rage and say the words we all want to hear, I mean Hae Young wish to know. Which means the elaborated 'Saranghae'. Am I the only one who thinks it's great that the show has an extension? There's still so many things to tie up and impending events (argh, please don't let shit hit the fan again!) - Do Kyung's apparent death, Tae Jin/Chairman Jang's potential revenge, Jin Sang/Soo Kyung's baby, Hoon and Anna's relationship, other OHY's closure, not to mention I'd love to see our main otp open up to each other more, especially for Do Kyung to confide in our Hae Young about his traumatic familial history and for her to be there for him. Four episodes is just nice for them to get closure.

And PLEASE, I would hate for the show to have a sad or open ending. Like I would kill the writer because I've invested way too many emotions in this show to be disappointed again! Please let Do Kyung and Hae Young get married in real-time and live happily ever after T____T

I've been trying for weeks to put my finger on why the comments regarding how DK should suffer as much as HY did bothered me. I finally figured it out. It's that all the comments are grounded in the idea that relationships have scores and points like a game. People want things to be fair and for there to be a winner. Only problem is winning the game is probably how/why people end up alone. I think OHY understands that it's not a game. She knows how to invest in love when it comes and people blame her for her reactions as if it's a weakness to show pain. What the hell?

My comment got cut off but what I was saying is it's not about what you are owed but what you truly need/want! If it's the person you love why should it matter how bad you look to be in love. The connection between two people is so rare that when you see it grab it. Why do I have to make someone suffer just because they struggled to give back what i chose to give them?

In other news I hate the extension. So many unnecessary scenes plus garbage disposal really?

I don't even think he suffered less tho. Just more internally...

That's why when he does express it outwardly, it comes out in random bursts. Otherwise, he channels it through self inflicted pain (i.e getting beat like a dog, letting HY curse at him on the phone) or, in the more preferable healthy/hilarious way, the sad duckling line of solidarity ?

Exactly!! My gosh some of the comments made me think are we watching different drama or people are just so sadistic and enjoy tallying who-is-suffering-more barometer and see who could be the final winner. Feelings, love, anger, suffering, happiness are not some kind of sports we competed to see who is the winner.

The both of them suffer, and who can bloody know if DK actually suffered less than HY, we are not even the characters and we are not privy to the inner workings of DK. He just hold himself better but then again, we saw the both of them getting treated at the hospital for the same kind of illness, that was heartbreak. So, was DK really suffer less than HY is highly questionable.

Actually I'm wondering if people are reacting to how the emotion transitions from the hospital confession scene to the smile felt unnatural.

Don't get me wrong, I was super happy to see them smile at the ending but upon rewatch - the transition from "angst-I-want-to-hurt-myself-so-I-won't-feel-pain" to a sunny smile felt jarring.

How about nuances of fear from perhaps getting hurt even worse from OHY? Or a shade of relief that the other is back in his/her life? I actually thought the scene fell a bit flat emotionally upon re-watching and could have milk more from the fact the "love of their life" is back.
Just my 2-cents worth *shrug*

It was not that simple, though.

In a couple of minutes, Oh Hae Young went from angst to tears to smiles. Do Kyung went from anger to fear to surprise to smiles. Maybe you felt it was unnatural, but their feelings were being suppressed to the point of pain for a long time, so I think the progression was natural.

For them it was like a bottle being opened.

Who would have thought id ever like a wrist-grab scene this much? Appa running down the street grabbing DK's wrist like his life was in danger -who could blame him for running fast and far? Mom is fierce!- made my day! It also helps that having DK in the picture makes Dad look like the biggest talker out there lol

I appreciated we got to see DK actually DO something because it bugged me how he was all wishy washy and I felt exasperated with how he didnt put his money where his mouth -or heart?- was. I kinda wanted him to do more and not have HY running to him but then again, when he tried to hug her she refused -and I did a little dance when she did!- and for a person like DK thats enough to feel rejected/give her space and id hate it if they suddenly made him someone who would force HY to hug him/kiss him or grab her wrist because that doesnt fit with what we know about him.

I really want to know what they're planning for JS and SK... I dont expect JS to be the best bf/husband/father overnight but I do hope he doesnt flee the country :S

Noona doesn't need him to be anything for her. What she needs his for him to be a better person then he is now. Whether he chooses to do that or not is the crux of the matter.

Re: subtitles

After some kind Beanies mentioned last week or so that Viki's translations hew more closely to the script, I decided to rewatch OHYA from the beginning. I'd been watching two other versions, and then later added Viki's to the mix in an effort to tease out the convoluted metaphysics of DK's visions, hallyucinations, and dreams.

I'd actually already seen the Viki version of episode 10, but it wasn't until the second viewing two days ago that I realized that Soo-Kyung dropped a provocative breadcrumb. Following the scenes with Doc Park discussing his interpretation of the mechanism and significance of DK's visions, cut to DK walking home, and encountering Noona stumbling towards him. She's wearing her hat that looks as if it holds about a dozen rabbits.

DK, to self: "In conclusion, I'll die soon, and in my dying moment, I'll miss her."

SK bumps into the wall up the hill from him, muttering in French. "Love does not envy. It does not boast. It is not rude. It is not rude. It is kind. It is not irritable. It does not --"

I suddenly recognized this passage -- from chapter 13 of St. Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, starting with verse 4! I was excited out of my shoes after reading the rest of the verse, for it directly addresses the matter of prophecies and visions.

The phrase "through a glass, darkly" was also in the back of my mind. It turns out to be from the King James Version of verse 12 of First Corinthians 13, and directly addresses DK's boyhood misunderstanding of what his father meant about transience and not wasting energy on things that don't matter.

IMHO, it is the antidote to the loveless upbringing he endured with his mother. The partial visions will be replaced with complete ones... when he lets go of his childhood misunderstanding of his father's love of impermanence, and the habits of mind and heart that have grown up around it.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8, New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love...

Holy shit, I knew she was quoting random things but I couldn't understand. Thank you for this!

I don't think what Soo-Kyung said was random. She's turning out to be a much deeper character than meets the eye.

I'd be willing to wager that SK is stating what her heart yearns for.

What floored me was seeing anything from the Bible quoted or paraphrased on TV. I really like what Writer-nim is doing with this, as well as fate and how it plays out in DK's life.

It's the first indication that the writer is super skilled. After ten episodes of watching noona do a friggin awesome job it's good to know the writer can adjust to the skills of the actor. They both stepped it up.

- continued-

I'm still trying to grok what's going on with the visions, especially after this week's episodes. I've been thinking pretty much from the get-go that maybe Doc Park's take on them is itself a misunderstanding of some kind.

What I get out of SK's reference to Corinthians is a way of living harmoniously with oneself as well as others. Replace the old behaviors and attitudes that haven't served any of the characters well with new programming. It reminds me of a phrase I came across many years ago: "acting my way into new ways of thinking."

Two other things that leapt out at me in episode 10 were DK's skinship with his Dad, who was very affectionate. No wonder he felt so abandoned. No wonder the guy is still so starved for hugs.

It was painful to observe his parents' interaction. Mom attacks, and Dad clams up. Does the lad infer that Mom is one of those things that is not worth wasting energy on? Years later, grown-up DK clams up just like Dad. Just like Daddy Oh, too, so I suspect it may be partly a guy thing. Makes me want to send DK a copy of The Inexpressive Male.

Regarding DK's visions, my understanding of them in relation to 1 Corintians 13 verses 8-12 is that until a person develops spiritual maturity and insight, they'll only ever see part of the big picture. One has to grow beyond one's childhood understanding of the world and other people, and that means letting go of limiting beliefs about oneself and others. For some people it means taking off the suit of armor they've been living in to avoid the inescapable pains of human existence. It's the only way to allow others to meet the real you. Drop the mask and become willing to meet others at least halfway.

OMG I hardly participate in the thread for this show, but I'm so glad I read your comment! A lot of nuances are lost to me due to the subs *cough* DFSucks *cough*. But this to me definitely added more insight into the characterization of DK. Admittedly I'm not as sympathetic to him, but these little things that gets lost in translation actually added to his depth. I knew Episode 10 was crucial to the plot and his character but thank you for this added layer.

@Momobinnie,

I'm glad you saw it. I'd already watched two other versions before watching Viki twice, and I didn't catch it until the second pass on Viki. No one had mentioned it as far as I knew, and I've been re-reading the comments like crazy...

I think it applies to all of the characters -- certainly all of the leads. Since SK is the one who spoke the words, I can't help but feel that they are of special significance to her.

See also my final post, about #66, I think. It ties in with this one.

I liked:
1. DK finally doing something different than what he sees in his visions. Honestly, I don't understand why he didn't try this before. Granted, some of the visions have been of stuff outside of his control but I would have worked harder to try and avoid or change some of those more unpleasant ones much earlier.

I sometimes experience deja-vu moments of things that haven't happened yet (right before they are supposed to happen), but mine are more like fleeting impressions of a feeling or moment rather than a visual. And unlike his, mine never seem to come true but that's in part (I think) because I either freeze in indecision wondering how to react until the moment passes, or I do something different. Or my feeling is too fleeting to get a strong grasp on what might happen.

Anyway, it always bothered me that he just went along with those visions until now. Glad to see him actively choosing to say something different - even if it's small - and showing that he CAN change the future.

2. Finally our characters are back together again.

3. OHY resolves to act happy and go back to work. It was a good move on her part that took courage and strength. She realizes that even though she's unhappy, it's not the end of the world. Or so it seems...

Because I didn't like:
1. When it felt like we regressed with that irresponsible, destructive behavior where our OHY inflicts harm on herself by wearing uncomfortable shoes and not taking her medicine. Maybe I'd be less angry with her if she hadn't spent so much of the previous episodes being negative and depressed. But when she let herself get sick enough to worry her parents and be rushed to the hospital...that just mad me mad. She really needs therapy or professional help to deal with what appears to be some seriously unhealthy emotional-behavioral issues.

Thank you Eyes for addressing and not ignoring the elephant in the room - OHY's destructive behavior of self-harm.

The PD said that the extension would not be fill by just un-needed scenes so don't worry :) they also said that they did some minor changes so it would not affeteced the flows/the plot. (I believe in you Park Haeyoung writer-nim!)

Now we just can hoping they would give us proper ending for OHYA and not just that kind of mental breakdown ending xD

I don't know if someone had mentioned this already, but I was was just having a "what if" moment. I mean, for every change in his vision DK makes there is a different outcome, so what if at the end of the road its not him dying but our OHY instead???

Damn peeps need to give DK a break!! Seriously! That guy was suffering too and it wasn't a competition to see who suffer more than the other.

It was harder to hold ones feeling and willingly be the bad guy and accept all the anger, pain and keep it all inside while battling his real intentions of wanting to be with her to the point that he got physically ill. Was that not enough to show that he DID suffered. A LOT!! I rarely got sick and I am yet to get sick due to heartbreak, so I guess for someone to get THAT sick and need immediate treatment, it was really bad. For the both of them.

Like someone commented earlier, our HY knew what kind of person DK is and for him to reacted to her that way in the hospital shows how desperate and vulnerable he was. And that was enough for her to react to him and meet him halfway, even if it was meant for her to run all the way there.

"If he is not the right guy, drag that fool to the right and turn him into the right guy"
