Jung Il-woo to star in Thai drama Love and Lies

It seems like we’re going to be seeing quite a lot of Jung Il-woo (Records of a Night Watchman) before he has to enlist in the army. He has wrapped up filming for tvN’s 100% pre-produced Cinderella and the Four Knights, and on June 5, he went to Thailand to start filming for his new project Love and Lies (Thai title: Gon rak game ma ya). This drama is being funded and produced by the True4U Channel, a subsidiary of a large Thai conglomerate, the CP Group.

Jung Il-woo will be playing the male lead, Tim, who is the head of PR at an entertainment company. Tim is described as a smart, bold, and capable man. His father abandoned his family, so at a young age he became the man of the house. In addition, as the title seems to suggest, there will be complicated circumstances that cause Tim or others around him to lie.

Love and Lies has garnered some attention in the K-entertainment industry for several reasons. Jung Il-woo will officially be the first Hallyu actor to star in a Thai drama. While we hear a lot about idols and actors spreading their wings in China and Japan, there hasn’t been a real push to get Korean actors into the Southeast Asian entertainment industry despite the great fan fervor that exists there. If this project ends up exceeding expectations, we might be able to see more Korean collaborations with companies in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and beyond.

No No No, I love JIW but thailand dramas are the worst, they have bad script, boring story and low quality.
I am still mad for all the hours I have spent watching highest rated thailand drama

Actually the recent quality of lakorns has been on the rise. I hate their most famous slap kiss genre. But there are a wealth of wonderful fantasy, horror comedy series in thai. Personally , the top 10 rated thai dramas were too yuck for me.....I'm looking at sawan biang, jam loey rak, tang parn kammathep......

but there are a few dramas I would very well recommend because they are not your typical stories like rak boon, pon prom onlawaeng, nang rai said lub, 4 ugly duckling series, leh nangfah etc.
I hope my fellow beanies give them a chance

Thanks for recommendations. All the ones I watched were
slap kiss genre (well, except full house remake?) and I wanted to try new kind (if I can find time).

I do not think it is fair to say that Thai dramas are the worst. For example, Hormones is a pretty well written series. It is kind of the Degrassi of Thailand in the way that it deals with somewhat controversial and taboo subjects involving teenagers. And the style reminds me of the British series Skins...of course Hormones is not as daring. It is my favourite lakorn that I have seen so far and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Also, I've seen some good Thai romcoms. Especially if you like cute and cheesy romcoms, the Ugly Duckling Series, Kiss Me, Full House Thai and Wannueng jaa Pben Superstar are worth a look.

I'd recommend Song Huajai Nee Puer Tur(love that trescends from the past and act like your slave in the night but an overbearing boss in day time), Rak Boon(1,not 2)(if only helping ghosts can fulfill my wishes), Pon Pron Onlawaeng(not my niece but the girl I like in my niece body), Nang Rai Sai Lub(needs a spy, recruit a nangrai/villain for the role), Pin Anong(robber that only robs my heart), Suparburoot series (really my personal favorite is Khun Chai Ruj who's all-rounder ambassador and dignified Princess Than Ying), Ugly Duckling(except Pity Girl who seems to have less memory capacity than gold fish), Hormones(my personal favorite is 1 and 2), Nuer Mek2 (I admit I'm a fan of Mint.C).4Hua Jai series(a lot silly but lots of eye candy especially Duang Jai Akkanee), Pope Rak(a spirit and a detective), Bang Lang Mek (incense relationship with loads of drama), Punya Chon Kon Krua(need experience as maid to write script so be one), Kularb Rai kong Nai Tawan (Really hot farmer with spoiled heiress),

I am sorry, I just have to say this...

#AOMIKE FOREVERRRRRRRRRR!!!
Lol, it is weird, I have never shipped a couple as hard before! I actually started with Kiss Me, the remake of Playful Kiss and I was so heads over heels in love with the chemistry, that by the time I saw Full House, I was just excited to have them on my screen, I only cared about the plot like 10%. I just wanted both of them, in the same place. It wasn't asking for much XD

I am a big fan of AoMike too!!! They had so much chemistry in Full House, which I watched first, then follow up with their new collaboration in Kiss Me. Their behind the scenes are super cute too. I would totally believe it if they date! Can't wait to see the sequel to Kiss Me!

Full house was my first and only Thai drama.. I liked it better than the original (honestly I don't really remember much of that one) and the main reason was the chemistry of the two leads! Very entertaining and visually on par with an average kdrama.

I wish the two did a different follow up than ISWAK remake (I can't stand another remake of that drama).

I watched Kiss me thai. AoMike is so good there. Then i watched Full house thai which is kinda dragging. But KISS ME THAI is the best version of Kiss me versions of all countries. Excited for the sequel.

I have a weird relationship with the 'Playful kiss' series.
The first time I watched it,I was SO ANGRY! I mean, brain exploding kind of angry. Every feminist bone in my body was hurt. I could not finish it.
Then one day, browsing around, I stumbled on it again, I just went there to mock the female leading... and ended up watching the whole thing. I think it is because, this time, my brain knew what to expect.
But then, shock of all shock, I stumbled on Mischievous Kiss by accident, I swear, I just wanted to see if the leads were as dumb as Playful Kiss, and ended up watching part 1 and 2!! I was so ashamed of myself... I actually pulled an all-nighter over this. At this point, I was not sure I had the right to call myself a 'Feminist' X(
And then, in one of those low moments, I went back to Mischievous Kiss, and someone commented on how Kiss Me was the best version... So of course I had to check it out.
Best Decision I Ever Made! I am not kidding, you need to watch it. She is a much much MUCH better version of the lead character. And the guy actually falls for her by like the 3rd episode, I mean.. EVIDENTLY falls for her. Not the whole Playful kiss, does he or does he not crap. She is also so much stronger, not as clingy and there is a legitimate medical reason she is mentally slower... caused by the male lead XD! Overall, I very much think that Kiss Me is the best version... and you would NOT need to turn off your feminist bone.

Add me to the list of AoMike fans! I am still so head over heels with them, I am itching like mad to watch the sequel of Kiss Me! I am wondering if they will ever film it (PLEASE DO!).

Anyway, I hope Jung Il Woo will be paired with a good Thai actress. I am hoping Aom but if Kiss Me sequel is coming up, then choose someone else please.xD Baifern is pretty good too. Omg~ I am getting excited just talking about it. Really hope that the drama will be good.

Aom is possible to be paired with him because she's with true4u. Unless you're a freelancer, the actors can't act with other. Baifern is with ch7. Actually true4u is not the main broadcast channel in thai. For lakorns, ch7 and ch3 are the most famous followed by cables like oneHD and true4u.

I love AoMike. I started with Kiss Me, first Thai, because I'm trash for the INK storyline (only missing the older Japanese and the Indonesian). They are sooooo cute! I stalked their IG tag after the show ended.

I have to watch the original Full House before I watch the remake. I know the story will be painful to watch twice but I promised a friend I'd watch for Rain and of course I have to watch AoMike.

The mother of Mike's baby is definitely not in the picture right? I cheer for parents getting back together (grew up on parent trap). But I'm also a fan of step families. I know this is real life but I want to know which one to cheer for. Aom seems like she'd make a great mom.

In fact, I adopted Tenten and Taliw as my parents, one of the perks of being an orphan imo.

I'm all over the place. Anyway, I love AoMike! And I can't wait to explore Thai lakorns more, currently obsessed with Taiwanese.

Have you seen him in High Kick? I really love the sitcom with him there to the extent that I marathoned it the whole night and forgot that I had to donate blood in Red Cross the following day. Consequently, I failed as a donor that day but now blood letting=JIL to me. His sitcom runs through my mind every time I am waiting for the blood bag to be filled up.

I personally love Jung Il Woo but I agree with you on Iljimae. I actually just finished watching it but it isn't even close to a 10/10 that JB and GF rated it. It was entertaining enough and was definitely pretty and had a lovely poetic feel to it. But some of the side characters were some of the most annoying characters I've encountered in a drama yet. JIW was stiff in the beginning of the show (but you can see him improve as the show progressed). Some of the action scenes were really cool but some were pretty cheesy with the overdone and very obvious wire stunts.

But I have loved him in Flower Boy Ramen Shop, High End Crush, Records of a Nightwatchman(even though the show itself wasn't very good). I think he is much better in the comedic roles because he does have excellent comedic timing that will have me cracking up.

Wooo... I love thai drama!!!

When I watch lakorn (thai drama), I feel the different taste which I can't get from korean drama. For some couple, it's really surprised me with the chemistry between pra'ek (lead male) and nang'ek (female lead). I haven't watched many lakorn, but they have great cast. Although 'slap-kiss' annoyed me, but I can enjoy, impressed lakorn like I can enjoy and impressed korean drama. I think, lakorn and korean drama will give you the different choice, but some lakorn won't disappointing you because they can give you an interesting story line with their style.

I don't expect anything from this collaboration, but I think it's a challenge which he will learn other cultural and meet many people.

Sorry for OOT and my bad English.

Sorry but your comment is so annoying in my eyes.

I find it highly offensive for one to say that a particular language is annoying/weird to hear etc. Language makes up a significant aspect of a particular culture, and I'm sure that Thais are proud of their language, just as Korean people are proud of korean, Japanese people proud of Japanese language etc. To say that a particular language is annoying suggests to me that you're belittling others' culture.

i think it's great that korean actors are starting to work in other countries' dramas.

am watching Love Song, a jdrama and who should appear as a record company executive? ryohei otani who is in alot of kdramas!

and then Chen Bolin (taiwanese actor) was in a kdrama recently and has filmed with ha ji won.

and then Song Ji Hyo in taiwan's version of WGM with Chen Bolin...

fun!

but yeah, will we be able to find engsubbed versions of the other asian dramas/movies? and actually, i don't like seeing the actors dubbed....

I wonder who the female lead would be....Yaya possibly? (she's my favorite...but I'm such a Yadech shipper that I don't know if i can see her with anyone else but Nadech)

I always thought Nickhun from 2PM would making his acting debut in a thai drama....seeing as he's got the idol status, good looks and speaks fluent korean and thai....I guess he doesn't want to act...

Everyone needs to watch Game Rai Game Rak (Evil Game Love Game) - it's SOO good.

Mild is actually a pretty good actress. Her latest series which has just concluded in April was Kiss The Series where she plays a tomboy who accidentally slept with one of her male friends. If you wanna check out her acting, GMMTV has subbed this series fully and it's now up at their youtube channel.

nickhun's little sister is becoming fairly well-known as a star under GMM-TV so maybe he's staying away on purpose. her last mini-drama, senior secret: puppy honey did well enough to get a sequel, (thanks in part to the bl beta couple) and she's part of their mega series u-prince, which is getting a lot of attention because of all the hot young actors, (includes push from ugly duckling, and captain and white from lovesick the series).

hum...i didn't realize i knew that much about nickhun's little sister; i was more interested in the guys, 555.

My personal opinion, but Thai dramas are overly exaggerated and dramatic. I dislike their story lines in which the boy rape the girl and it was supposed to be love. Haven't watch one in ages.

I also dislike how some of the characters are always so mean to each other and yelled all the time.

Yup. I hate the overly-dramatic plots, super evil clinging gf or guy friend, super evil and mean parent figure. And then the lead male guy is such a jerk to the lead female guy. He would either rape her which then impregnates her or kidnap her and then rape her. And this is suppose to be romantic.

The best part about Thai lakorn are the makeup, hair styling, and the fashion clothing.

Required fields are marked *

Hmm, that's like saying all Korean dramas have childhood love, evil mil, chaebols, truck of doom and amnesia.

Rapes in lakorns are usually confined to slap n'kiss genre as they're called, with a possessive cruel guy is for some reason upset with the heroine and usually ends up kissing her, she slaps, and cycle continues to rape. Sawan Biang, Jam Loey Rak are perfect examples.

But there are other genres in lakorns where rape isn't prevalent, namely romantic comedies such as Sood Sanae Ha, horror genre is popular, period lakorns like Wanida, Beloved Wife (set in 1950s, etc, slow paced, more sedate love stories), teen or school lakorns to name a few.

But slap n'kiss genre is popular and often subbed unlike some other genres. Why? Well, sex sales and some lakorns don't even have real kisses or any at all. Most slap n'kiss lakorns also seem to be based on novels that are over 20 or more years old like Sawan Biang, based on 1970 novel according to wikipedia. Any guess what romantic fiction in USA was like in 1970s, 1980s? Bodice rippers, rapey HP.

There's some really good Thai movies but in general the lakorns still have a lot of improvements to make o.o but I would have also said that about pre-2008 Korean dramas so I have hope for the future cause I like Thailand a lot~

Recently I watched the Thai drama "Diary of Tootsies" and it was really good though. Like it's seriously funny and I thought the characters were likeable and the acting was good.

I myself don't quite fancy the usual kiss/slap genre but I kinda grew up with it, so I just live with it, and i think it has a spot in my heart that i never knew about it.

But I am so SUPER DUPER excited for Jung Il Woo to take a step in the thai industry! Sure, yeah it's not Korean level yet, but I am so goddam greatful that it is Jung Il Woo!! He is one of my favorite Korean actors. Love him so much!! I wonder who he'll star with??
