Jeon Do-yeon turns into legal shark for The Good Wife
by tineybeanie
The Good Wife, tvN’s upcoming Friday-Saturday legal drama, marks Jeon Do-yeon’s (The Shameless) first comeback to the small screen in eleven years. She will be playing dutiful housewife Kim Hye-kyung who changes into a fierce career woman in this Korean remake of the acclaimed American TV show. The Good Wife also features actor Yoo Ji-tae (Healer) as her husband, rising star prosecutor Lee Tae-joon. When a sex scandal involving her politically ambitious husband becomes national news, his career plummets, and Hye-kyung is forced to make a living for herself amidst dealing with an unfaithful spouse.
However, the sex scandal might have been masking something darker underneath the surface. In the teaser, we get to see a snippet of the backstory and it’s possible that Lee Tae-joon’s fall from power may have been related to a greater conspiracy at work, since he says, “I will do anything to protect Hye-kyung.” Yoo Ji-tae’s expression shows layers of complexity and suggests a greater mystery.
Thankfully, Hye-kyung has some friends in high places who acknowledge her brilliance and future potential despite her long respite from the legal scene. She had originally quit her work to focus on her husband’s career when she married, but the drama starts as she goes back to being a lawyer under a firm headed by her law schoolmate Seo Joong-won, played by Yoon Kye-sang (Last). Amidst solving cases and defending her clients, she finds herself again. This drama focuses on Hye-kyung’s journey as she reclaims her identity separate from her husband, and regains a sense of self-worth and value, all while kicking bad guys’ asses in court.
Apparently the first poster session for The Good Wife was finished in ten minutes because of Jeon Do-yeon’s professionalism in maintaining character as chic and charismatic Kim Hye-kyung. Jeon Do-yeon’s presence just commands the teaser as well, especially in the last line that shows Hye-kyung’s tough-as-nails attitude: “There’s only one truth in this case. And I’m the one who decides it.”
Other stars to watch out for in the The Good Wife include Kim Seo-hyung (Assembly) her law firm’s CEO, After School’s Nana as her assistant, and Lee Won-geun (Sassy Go Go) as her rival rookie lawyer at the firm.
The Good Wife will air after Dear My Friends wraps up, starting July 8.

Wow, tvN is just, wow!
Is it started in 2012? I knew tvN from Queen Inhyun's Man then followed by Reply 97 and starting then I've been completely in love with tvN. I hope this one drama will break another record.

The trailer was so intense, I got a bit of jolt when the "tvN tv10~" jingle came after.
So curious about this. Lots of interesting shows coming up! Yay!!!

I apologize for the most random and superficial comment ever but her eyebrows are super light. Like, holy crap.
Sorry for the inane comment, but I can't stop staring at her fascinatingly light-colored (thin?) eyebrows and apparently needed to share that with you guys.

I'm so excited about this show because of the cast and the source materials, but uggggh who thought it was a good idea to give the writer of Spy the project that marks Jeon Do Yeon's return??

The queen is return, guys.
Hope this turn out to be good. Solid team I will say. I can finally forget that Yoo Ji-tae was part of Healer's team (not that the drama was bad, not that I dislike JCW but it felt off and weird to see YJT there. Still unsure about Nana, but she must be at least OK since the PD casted her.. Less than a month! Yeah I am ready. ;)

I thought that Healer was great overall, but it seems to under-utilise Yoo Ji Tae.
I like this Jeon Do Yeon-Yoo Ji Tae-Yoon Kye Sang combination, looking forward to the premiere!

Yes that was the reason I restrained myself to follow Healer, because it seems to under-utilised YJT. I was excited to watch JCW in Healer at first and even watched first few episodes but left it.
I hope this combination will be a huge success. Is it too early to predict it will surpass 10%?

I do not know why I am not excited about her. I mean yes she is famous, recognized actress, and her acting is good and all, but I was not particularly impressed when I watched her movie/dramas. What is her best work- maybe I missed that so I don't see her greatness?

I think I'm drawn to Yoon Kye Sang in a sharp lawyer's suit and without some scruffy beard for once. I like it.

I wish they hadn't gone the conspiracy route. It's a remake so I really shouldn't expect the kind of actor/characters on the same level as Christine Baranski and Archi Panjabi but still.

Because this Korean remake is unlikely to have more than a couple of seasons, a stand-alone conspiracy arc might be a reasonable way of structuring the story. Provided, of course, they resolve it properly…
I think Kim Seo-hyung has the potential to be almost as good as Baranski, but expecting Nana to fill Panjabi's boots is just cruel. I believe that a good writer and director can do wonders with not-so-good actors, but the only thing on the director's CV that inspires confidence is "Cruel City / Heartless City", while the writer's only credit "Spy" is (as @nhyn has pointed out above) just downright ominous.

Here I am saying something subjective: Jeon Do Yeon looks quite manly, I'm afraid.
Well, after all the character is supposed to have a strong personality...

I'm so ready! I've never watched the american version but I'm a fan of Jeon Do-Yeon so I have to see it. For me she can't do no wrong. I hope I'll like it but If I don't it would be because of the script and not because of her acting lol
