Oh Hae-young Again: Episode 8

Love, guilt, confusion, abandonment, all topped of with a huge helping of possibly supernatural visions — it’s enough to drive anyone over the edge. Do-kyung seems to be in imminent danger of losing his mind with everything he’s having to deal with. In fact, I’m starting to become concerned for the mental well-being of more than one of our main players, and it’s may keep getting worse before it gets better.

EPISODE 8: “I’m not crying because of him, but because of you”

Do-kyung and the other Hae-young talk about how they left things, and Do-kyung explains that when he said he pitied her it didn’t mean he didn’t love her. He pities everyone he loves, even his brother and sister. But Hae-young wants to be loved without being pitied.

As it turns out, Hae-young isn’t here to try and rekindle their relationship. She just doesn’t want them to remember each other with anger and bitterness anymore, so she suggests they change their last impressions of each other before they go their separate ways. Her idea is for them to play ping-pong ten times — by the last time they won’t feel badly towards each other anymore, and can move on.

Do-kyung is hesitant, but Hae-young swears she’s not doing this to get him back — in fact, she’s ready to try dating again. She just wants to resolve her feelings towards him first.

In flashback we see that they have a history with ping-pong, that they used to play all the time. Hae-young had been pretty much unbeatable, and Do-kyung had had to take lessons just to be able to beat her once. When he finally did, as his prize, he’d asked her to marry him.

We don’t see whether Do-kyung agrees to the ten games, but on his way home, Jin-sang calls to tell him that Tae-jin has been let out of jail. Of course Do-kyung already knows, since our Hae-young told him in a vision that she saw Tae-jin. He has another vision, of her crossing a busy street, seeming disoriented.

At work, both Hae-young’s present ideas for potential signature dishes for their company, but Soo-kyung thinks our Hae-young’s suggestion is too simple. She tells our Hae-young to come back with something more trendy, or she’s fired. Geez, she’s a loon at work, too.

She even tells Sung-jin to keep his entire team out of creating menu ideas, but he argues that our Hae-young was instrumental in the company’s success at opening Korean-style restaurants. He blames her lack of promotion on her admirable ability never to brag about her work, and actually blames himself for not pushing her forward more.

The other Hae-young tries again to invite our Hae-young out for drinks, and when our Hae-young asks why, she says that she met with Do-kyung today. She tells her that they plan to see each other for a while, asking if that’s okay, but our Hae-young just says, “It’s not okay.”

Soo-kyung exits the building behind them, talking to someone on the phone who wants to know what our Hae-young is wearing. It’s Do-kyung — interesting.

That’s when our Hae-young finds herself at the bus stop, facing her ex-fiance Tae-jin again out of the blue. They exchange awkward hellos, and Hae-young reflexively says they should go out to dinner sometime before realizing how strange that would be. But Tae-jin jumps on the idea, and says he’ll call her later.

But when he gets back in the car, there’s a pretty woman peeking out of the passenger window, smiling at Hae-young. That’s too much of a one-two punch in one day for Hae-young, and she drinks away her heartbreak.

As it turns out, Do-kyung was confirming what Hae-young is wearing because of his concerning vision wherein she’s staggering across a busy street, seeming very disoriented. She’s wearing the same shirt today as in his vision, and when he has the vision again, he uses a brief glimpse of a building to figure out where she’ll be.

Hae-young is there already, very drunk and wobbly, and about to cross the street. Two guys horse around and she thinks it’s time to cross, so she walks right out into heavy traffic. Do-kyung hears the horns honking, but not until Hae-young is in the middle of the street.

It’s too dangerous to go after her so he calls out to her from the curb, and though she hears him, she’s too inebriated to respond. Cars be damned, Do-kyung follows after her, but they both make it to the other side safely before he catches up. He stops to ask her where she’s going, but she can only look around, confused, and say she was going to eat.

Do-kyung takes Hae-young and feeds her, where she eats as if in a trance. He stops her before she makes herself sick, and she slurs that he’s acting very strange. He said he doesn’t like her, so why is he here?

Do-kyung says it’s because she seems to be having a hard time, but when she asks in what way, he gives himself away with his silence. Hae-young asks how he knows she saw her ex-fiance, so he pretends that he just guessed when he saw her condition while crossing the street.

She moans that she saw her Tae-jin on a day when she didn’t even wash her hair, awww, and tells Do-kyung that the guy who couldn’t stand to watch her eat asked her out to dinner.

Of course Hae-young is sick as a dog later, and Do-kyung can hear her heaving through their shared wall. Bless her heart, she can barely drag herself to bed, and Do-kyung goes out to get her some medicine. He practically throws it at her and orders her to take it, but she ignores the medicine and cries herself to sleep.

Soo-kyung is also drinking herself into oblivion at her usual restaurant, but she looks up fast when the waitress asks why she didn’t come last night — the man she used to come here with was here. Apparently he’d told the waitress he’s moving abroad, and that he wanted to come one last time.

Soo-kyung goes out to the street to scream and cry, and Jin-sang sees her as she’s driving past on his way home. He fusses at her to stop drinking every night, but she’s actually upset because she didn’t drink last night as usual.

Jin-sang grows concerned when he sees that Soo-kyung is crying, but she’s speaking in French again. This time he answers her in French, and tells her to just go see him if she misses him that much.

The fact that he speaks fluent French snaps Soo-kyung out of her caterwauling, but he says he didn’t tell her all this time because it seemed like she didn’t want to be understood. He knows the whole story: She met the guy while studying in Paris, and they dated after returning to Korea. But the guy has a fatal flaw — he’s married.

That literally sends Soo-kyung into a screaming fit, and Jin-sang catches her and says it’s not her fault for falling in love. He tells her again to just go see the man before he leaves, as he sweetly dries her tears.

An-na talks Hoon into going to the wrong coast again to record the waves, urging him not to cave to his brother’s demands (yeah, but he’s also his boss…). Hoon knows this is a bad idea, but he gives in to her, and the two play in the water.

When they sit to eat, An-na mentions that she’s been to this beach with a lot of guys, so Hoon asks how many guys she’s dated. It’s a big number but she justifies that she didn’t date any of them for long, that none of them lasted to their one-hundred-day anniversary. Probably because she asked for something really huge each time, like couple tattoos or to walk across the country together.

She admits the requests were tests, but all the guys failed. Hoon starts to worry what she’ll ask for when their hundred days is up, and does an actual spit-take when An-na says, “Live together.” If he says no, she’ll break up with him.

Hoon says she should just ask him to marry her, since living together is out of the question, but An-na doesn’t want to get married. She tells him sweetly that he still has time to think about it, or they could always just break up now.

Hae-young’s mom rushes out when she gets a call from Tae-jin’s mother, who thinks her son has been traveling abroad. She doesn’t know the true story either other than that supposedly Hae-young broke things off, though she says she still thinks highly of her. She asks if Hae-young might change her mind and rethink marrying Tae-jin.

Mom takes this information home, and she tells Dad that she doesn’t think Hae-young and Tae-jin should get married. Dad says they should let their daughter decide, but Mom thinks it’s better to let things lie. But she summons Hae-young to the house and tells her to just go talk to Tae-jin.

Hae-young bursts into tears, and finally tells the truth, that Tae-jin was the one who dumped her. Mom is stunned, and Dad balls up his fists like he’d love to go pound that jerk into the pavement for making his baby cry. Later, Mom starts to sob herself when she thinks how angry she was at Hae-young for canceling the wedding, and Dad breaks down soon after.

Outside her parents’ house Do-kyung steels himself and tries to call Hae-young, but chickens out. He sees Tae-jin drive up and look around, but he’s also too nervous to go in and ends up leaving. Do-kyung follows him, remembering Hae-young’s pain over being dumped the day before her wedding.

He works himself into such a fury that when Tae-jin stops for a turn, Do-kyung revs the engine and rams into the back of Tae-jin’s car. He pretends to have fallen asleep at the wheel, though his voice holds no remorse, and Tae-jin instantly recognizes him as the guy who smirked at him right before his life fell apart.

He asks if this is how Do-kyung celebrates his release from prison, and asks what Do-kyung’s problem is with him. He knows Do-kyung has something against him, but no matter how hard he’s thought about it, he can’t figure out why.

Do-kyung admits that ruining Tae-jin’s business was a mistake back then — but he meant to crash his car. He invites Tae-jin to sue him and starts to walk away, but Tae-jin pulls him back and gives him a strong right hook.

He screams that he still wants to know why, even if it was a mistake, but Do-kyung just thanks him for throwing the first punch. He says that Tae-jin can punch him a hundred times, as long as he gets one punch in return.

Tae-jin is confused but he takes Do-kyung up on his offer, and starts throwing fists. Do-kyung goes down and Tae-jin kicks him savagely, even picking Do-kyung up so he can knock him down again, but Do-kyung just asks for three more.

Tae-jin calls him a crazy bastard and turns his back, so Do-kyung goes in for his punch, but the police have been called by now. They hold Do-kyung back while he struggles like a wild animal, screaming, “Even if you went bankrupt, how could you say such a thing? How?!

That night Hae-young’s mother drags her out of bed, and they all three go to a noraebang. HAHA, I love this family. But later they’re all teary again, and Mom apologizes for how she yelled at Hae-young, thinking she was at fault for the canceled wedding. She cries, asking why Hae-young kept the truth a secret.

And then, it’s party time again! Soon enough they’re all crying together, then back to singing, and the whole evening goes back and forth like that. I think this may be my favorite family of all time. Mom and Dad are both hoarse by the time they head home, and they stop to rest by the river.

Mom and Dad go to get some beers, leaving Hae-young a lone for a bit, which is when she gets a call from Do-kyung. He’s home after a much-needed therapy session and is worried that she’s still out, and she says belligerently that she wants him to worry about her. Amazingly, Do-kyung admits that he’s worried, and tells her to come home.

Feeling contrary, Hae-young refuses unless he says he misses her, but he can’t do it. She hangs up on him, and wishes to herself that everyone who doesn’t love her would just die.

Do-kyung lies in bed and suddenly hears the horrible sound of a car crash, and clutches his head in agony. He jumps out of bed and runs outside in his pajamas, and calls Hae-young again.

He asks where she is, and when she hesitates to tell him (correctly pointing out that he sure does seem to like her), he uses his incredible hearing to listen to the background noise through the phone. He grabs a taxi and calls Hae-young again, but when she doesn’t answer, he texts her that he’s on his way and not to move.

But she’s in no mood to be obedient, and when her parents get back they all start walking towards home again. But she has a change of heart and tells them to go on ahead, and she’ll come home in a bit.

The look of relief on Do-kyung’s face when he finds Hae-young safe is amazing, but she just glares at him while a group of bikers cross the sidewalk between them. Once they pass he just says, “Let’s go,” and Hae-young follows, though she keeps a safe distance. She seems to know she has some sort of upper hand here, as she keeps catching him glancing at her as they walk.

Once on the subway she finally asks who he fought with, but he doesn’t say. He walks her home to her parents’ house, and she tells him that she told her parents the truth about her broken engagement. They’d be upset if they knew she was still hung up on Do-kyung.

But she can’t help the way she feels when he calls her or says, “Let’s go.” She feels foolish, so she doesn’t want to do this anymore. She declares this the end of it, asking if he has anything to say. The big idiot just tells her to watch out for cars, and leaves.

But as much as he’d like to forget all this, Do-kyung is woken in the middle of the night by that same sound of a car crashing. Whatever is happening, by the look on his face it looks painful and extremely frightening.

At breakfast, Hae-young’s mom worried out loud that there are things her daughter can’t tell her about, but at least she won’t end up with a guy who gets bored easily and isn’t loyal. She’d always worried Hae-young would end up that way, and is relieved that she won’t.

Dad speaks up, and asks Hae-young to move back home. They can get her stuff while she’s at work, and she’ll just come home here like nothing ever happened. Hae-young refuses and Mom flares, thinking she’s clinging to Do-kyung, but Hae-young just says she’ll do it herself soon.

Do-kyung is waiting when Dr. Park gets to work that morning, needing to talk about this newest premonition. He can hear the crash and feel the pain of the impact, like his entire body is breaking apart. The doctor thinks it’s strange that this time, he doesn’t see Hae-young, when all of his visions have centered on her, but Do-kyung thinks that this one is about himself.

He hesitates to get in his car after his session, and another premonition hits him. This one is more like the others, with Hae-young furious and fighting with him like a wildcat, while he tries to calm her down. Do-kyung sees himself pin her against a wall and, even though they’re both still angry, he kisses her.

COMMENTS

Well, the stakes are certainly rising, and that last vision was a doozy. Whatever is happening there, it’s obviously serious, because Hae-young looked angrier than we’ve ever seen her and Do-kyung really made that kiss matter. I can’t wait to see what that’s all about, though I can’t say the same for his car-crash vision.

I think Hae-young’s parents have made it to my “favorite drama parents of all time” list with this episode. They’re so caring and they love their girl so much, even if they sometimes don’t show it to her face. They way they all went to the noraebang and just got it all out, singing and screaming, then crying, then singing it out again, was just the best thing ever. I adore Mom especially, the way she will yell at Hae-young when she does something Mom doesn’t agree with, but defends her baby girl to the death if anyone else dares to criticize her. When Mom broke down in full-body grief over how she treated Hae-young when she thought she canceled the wedding, that was the first time watching this show that I’ve truly cried along with a character — her emotions were just so raw and real. And Dad… he may be the silent type, but his love for Hae-young is every bit as fierce as Mom’s. With just that one expression I believed that if Tae-jin had been in front of him in that moment, he would have beaten him to a pulp for hurting his daughter. It’s no wonder Hae-young is drawn to Do-kyung, because he’s so like her father… quiet, says few words, but feels things very deeply and constantly.

But Do-kyung needs help — I mean I think he seriously needs help, possibly even more than his current therapist can provide. I’m glad that he does seek professional counseling for his issues, so that’s a good start, but I’m still concerned that he seems to be getting worse and not better. His visions are coming on faster, and they’re starting to overlap each other, a new one arriving before the last one has actually happened. Obviously his mother did a number on his ability to connect with feelings like love (because no, pitying people you love as a matter of course is not normal), and I worry that his quick shutdown when Hae-young asked about his father masks something even more devastating in his past.

He claims not to like Hae-young, but just the thought of Tae-jin hurting her makes him snap like a wild beast, and he can’t help himself from seeking her out when he knows she needs someone nearby. I think Do-kyung does love her, but he just can’t connect with that feeling. But his way of loving is deeply disturbing, and I’m starting to believe somewhat dangerous, and I go back to what I said in my last recap — both Hae-young and Do-kyung need to do some real work on themselves before either of them is emotionally healthy enough to be in any relationship right now. And that’s before we even take into account the fact that Do-kyung is having prophetic visions — I’m extremely concerned for his mental health. I think he’s breaking down right in front of our eyes.

For example, am I the only one that thought, when he was screaming at Tae-jin, “How could you say such a thing?” that he was really screaming at himself? He’s not being rational towards Tae-jin — nothing Tae-jin has done warranted being attacked that way. But I can see Do-kyung turning that fury in on himself, because he just said something extremely hurtful to Hae-young when he said he didn’t like her, then ridiculed her family. I think he’s angry with himself, and projecting that onto Tae-jin because he’s an easy target. It’s simple for Do-kyung to go after Tae-jin for hurting Hae-young (and I do think that the way he ended things was unnecessarily hurtful), but the truth is, Tae-jin didn’t hurt her any more than Do-kyung is doing right now. At least Tae-jin kept it short and didn’t drag it out, but Do-kyung can’t do that. He knows he doesn’t have the right to be with Hae-young unless he’s willing to be completely honest about his part in her broken engagement, but he can’t let go of her, either. It’s not fair to Hae-young, and she knows it (even if she doesn’t understand exactly why he’s stringing her along), and I think that deep down, Do-kyung knows it too… and it’s tearing him apart.

SO EXCITED about this drama. I'm so happy dramaland has delivered another crack drama so soon after DOTS (which I also loved, but for different reasons).

Like a commenter said above, I'm so surprised that for a drama billed as a romcom, there's so much doom and gloom (or at least foreshadowed doom and gloom). There's still a light tone, but something hints at Very Bad Things ahead.

I'm looking forward to the drama fleshing out Han Tae Jin's character, as well as Do Kyung's mother. Her character so far is the only one that's cartoonishly evil, which doesn't quite fit with the amazing writing in the drama. What happened to Do Kyung's dad? Why is she so evil?

I also want to see more Tae Jin/OHY memories to really sell their relationship previously, because as of now, she just seems to have rebounded pretty quickly and I don't buy that he was Her Great Love. I buy PDK/OtherOHY, but not Our Hae Young.

Also, am I the only one who's super meh about An-Na and Do Kyung's brother? I don't get how/why they fit in the drama, and I only fast forward their parts :/

So, if you watch ep 9 preview there is a new (?) older male voice saying, I know what you've been seeing this whole time... IS that PDK's dad!?

What if Dad had visions of imminent doom also and went away to try and fix it/prevent things?!

Or is his father deceased? I can't recall. But it could be him on tape? Or I've had too much wine and am too excited for the next episode.

Like I said in my earlier episode that they are in on ride without breaks which will looks like too crash . Hurting everyone.

I think the kiss is about DY thinking of giving in for his feeling so that it will save him from going crazy with this vision's and with worry of OHY.

I just don,t want him to go crazy , it will be sad to see such a handsome character go crazy. They both lead characters looks dam psychotic when they break window/crash cars, that time i want to say guys just calm down ,it is just a drama.

Totally like the review and like this drama bring so many people together to discuss their thoughts on this and how this drama driving everyone in diff directions like some one want that they go to their original partner or some wants OHY + DY . I like this healthy conversations where no one is bad and every combination make sense.

Like OHY wishing 'all women die except her' and 'all people die who doon't love her' are genuine feeling bcoz we have these kine of feeling when we are too down/desperate.

I like how writer made OHY's character normal and audience can relate to her feeling for DY or for Tai jin.

DY's character is doing mistake after mistake like not telling
1.being reason for braking OHY's wedding and coming clean to Tai jin
2.Telling our OHY about his OHY tragedy

Okay have to be brief for this one:
1. I think Oh Hae Young developed her binging as a direct result of what Tae Jin said, and every time we've seen her doing so since has been in a response to emotional trauma/upset.

2. It's hard for me to watch (in a good way) Do Kyung act so caring towards OHY knowing it's mixed up with his guilt, his visions and his genuine care for her. Particularly because it gives him the excuse to deny it but also is the reason for the real feelings developing in the first place.

It's wonderful to see OHY refusing to see his treatment of her as any thing other than interest. Because without knowing the reasons for his care, his actions scream 'interested in you'. So I love that she keeps pushing him to admit it (never mind that it's true and he just can't admit it yet).

If there's any reason for a kdrama couple not to be together it's this one. This one thing that is what brought them together and now keeps them apart. I love it!

3. Loved Oh Hae Young refusing to play nice with No Hae Young (I know I said she could have it back but 'Pretty' kinda pissed me off on OHY's behalf this time) and refusing to give her permission for DK and NHY to see each other was awesome.

4. I feel for all four main characters (even when 'Pretty' pisses me off).

5. How are they going to solve the Tae Jin problem? He seems like a good guy, his only downfall is lack of screen time at this point.

6. The Oh family is amazeballs.

This show is heart-wrenching, but it will be the reason why I love it. I invested my time, emotion and the most anticipated drama after signal for me. Everything becomes more complex than ever and Do-Kyung's vision worries me a lot. I enjoy reading those assumption by fans. Almost everyone had brilliant thoughts over it. I extremely worry about the ending of this drama, especially on how the writers wrap everything and redeem Do-Kyung for his mistake. Looking at the amount of people rooting for Tae-Jin and Just HY, and there are also some Do-kyung and Just HY shippers, nevertheless some of us will be disappointed. I hope they won't demonize Tae-Jin's character.

This is my thoughts after finishing 8 episodes.

Park Do Kyung is mentally sick. He needs someone who he really can rely on. He has so much responsibilities on his shoulder, never feel loves from his mom and maybe something bad happen to his dad since he seems sad when tallk about his dad to Oh Hae Young.

He feels confused. Confuse about deja vu, confuse about his feelings towards both Oh Hae Young. He even can't distinguish between love, guilty and pity. And the worst thing, he has best friend who's willingly to give a bad advice (Jin Sang and his revenge advice which started all this mess).

Oh Hae Young shouldn't push him to to say love or something like that. The guy is emotionally unstable. We see that when he suddenly shouting at her "who are you actually?!" or crashing Ha Tae Jin's car.

He really needs to consult with better doctor LoL.

Okay guys, please tell me I'm not the only one who just now FINALLY got the "I hate looking at the way you eat" joke!!!

Seo Hyun Jin who plays our OHY was also in Let's Eat 2, basically multiple shots of her character just eating food ahaha! I couldn't wait for Monday so I was looking for a drama to watch to pass the time and I stumbled upon Let's Eat 2. Nice one writers, nice one, unless it wasn't intended, either way lol.

Amazing.

The more Do Kyung's keeping the truth from Haeyoung, the more I'm getting frustrated. It just feels so unfair to Haeyoung to be the only one being genuine and pouring her heart out while everyone's just playing here.

I really feel bad for her. She's doing her best to be happy and be proud of herself. I'm so scared for the day she finds out the truth after everything just piled up on her.

The extension is seriously scaring me because I found myself zoning out in this episode. Too many flashbacks and some scenes are too long. I hope OHYA doesn't go downhill from here.

I'm not finding myself zoning out at all, so I'm thankful for MORE of this amazing show. I loved your take on Hae Young and you're right, she is building herself up in part based on her growing love for Do Kyung and his care for her. I just hope that this show can do the story justice, and Ive really loved all the episodes, so I think they can. They've avoided many a trope, particularly with all four main leads.

He is having these session to understand in why in 1st place he has these visions and how he can interpret them.

If he can stop these visions ,so that's why he started seeing therapists.

I'm not certain if it was made clear that was his first time seeing the therapist though. It could've just been him telling the therapist about the visions for the first time because they were new.

I agree that the show made it seem like he went there becauseof the visions. But I think that might be an intentional fake-out by the PD.

I think one thing that almost everyone missed was that Dokyung was a very happy person.

Of all the flashbacks, i did not see one where he was stoic or emotionless or stodgy.

Which kind of makes sense given that both his siblings are bat shit crazy, he may be the responsible one but by no means was he a fun-less person

The other OHY really messed him up.

I love our OHY, but Dokyung this episode was just a little bit too much. His scene with Taejin was honestly pretty infuriating, and I feel as though he really needs some help. Slamming into someone else's car, and not being apologetic about it or the fact that he ruined the guy really irritated me. Violence is definitely not the answer, and I am a little disappointed in how Taejin acted. But at least I can relate and understand why he would be so angry (unlike Dokyung's anger, which was hypocritical and way too self-righteous).

What I really want to see is more of Taejin, and how he resolves things with our OHY and Dokyung. Hopefully the writers will paint him sympathetically, or in a "grey" way like how they did with the other OHY.

Tbh, I wish our OHY and Taejin would end up together. It's not possible, given the direction the drama's been steered, but a girl can dream, right? The best possible situation, imo, would be Taejin being truly remorseful and saying something like this after revealing why he really broke up with her: "OHY, I know what I did was selfish and unacceptable. When I was in jail, I spent a lot of time thinking over things, and realized that I should have trusted you more. A marriage is supposed to last through thick and thin, and I guess I just was too scared of you leaving and me getting hurt. I understand that you must be resentful, after what I said. I know I lost your love and trust, and it'll take a long time - maybe never - to regain them. I know I have some issues, and probably caused some for you as well. But I'd like it if we could talk things through and resolve our feelings for each other, if that's okay with you. I'll be waiting."

But I feel as though the writers will just end up revealing how Taejin was actually involved in shady practices or something, just to make him less sympathetic and appealing.

The problem is Oh Hae Young now is madly in love with the guy who put her ex in jail. Even she become obsessed with Park Do Kyung. Well, probably it will change after she knows the truth. But I still think she didn't really love Han Tae Jin.

I don't like Han Tae Jin end up with Oh Hae Young. I still love the OTP. But I disagree if writer put Han Tae Jin in something ridiculous just to make the OTP will be the end game.

Even if she didn't really love Han Tae Jin... She could start to, after talking with him and thinking things over?

Lmao I just really ship them. But then again, I also love her with Dokyung a lot. As long as they're able to get their issues resolved, I'd happily see them together. I'm really glad that this is different from a lot of other romances, in that though the male lead is sometimes an asshole, it's not as though that's his entire personality (eg. The Heirs, She Was Pretty, etc.). And at least we get to see his reasons for why he sometimes acts so rashly. It's pretty nice.

Body language shows that Oh Hae Young never truly loved Tae Jin. She's too cautious around him for starters. Also, do you notice her first response when he broke up with her was to "Save Face" not " You don't love me anymore?" or something to that effect.

When the guy tells her that he no longer loves her because of the way she eats(a truly superficial reason), she meekly accepts it, instead of calling him out on his bull shit. She's called Do Kyung out for much more than that. She exposes her true self to Do Kyung but hides her real self from Tae Jin.

I think Tae Jin and Hae Young had a superficial relationship that did not allow them to reveal their weaknesses to one another, and that kind of relationship is not fit for marriage. If they had a true relationship, then the first person Tae Jin would call to tell them he was on his way to jail would be the love of his life. I never hide any important stuff from my husband. Do Kyung and Hae Young have achieved that level of true intimacy, where she tells him everything, even though their relationship is not yet formally leading to marriage.

Oh Hae Young in her reflections always inferred that she never believed Tae Jin and her were at the same level, he was first rate, but she was third class. If she felt inferior to him, then it's no wonder why she constantly bit her tongue and tried her damnedest to put the best foot forward and not show him how much he hurt her.

THIS. totally agree with you! She open up herself to Do Kyung, like just say out everything she felt, especially after her confession revealed. But when she met Tae Jin, she just lied that she was great. Like which part after yall broke up??? I really think she should be with Do Kyung, I want her to be able to be with someone that she can show her true self and feelings. No hiding no secrets. OTP get on the ship!!!!

I remember how Our Hae Young mentioned that to her Tae Jin was first tier, similar to Pretty Hae Young. Maybe somewhere in there relationship she always felt slightly inferior compared to him and subconsciously put herself beneath him in some ways. Just as Adal says Our Hae Young never fought against Tae Jin regarding the breakup. She just accepted it and whenever she mentions him in the show, I always get the feeling she just wants to save face whenever he is mentioned.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the OHY-HTJ ship is way deep in the ocean. Oh Hae Young is madly in love with Do Kyung and you can't teach that.

We know why what happened between PDK and other OHY relationship. We know what were they about before their break up. Why hasn't the director/writer given us the meat about Han Tai Jin and our OHY. We don't know anything about how they were together, what made them work and what didn't. Why? Why hasn't that explored. As far as i see there is depth in all the characters and the character sketch is very very interesting. Why not him. Were they worried that we as viewers would've liked him more than PDK. Because though it's unreal and stupid in real world the reason he broke up with her was to save her from a relationship where he was going to end up in jail. But PDK has no excuse for what he did to him.
I really hope there is some development in Han Tae Jin's character in future episodes.

I hope so. Because except for just one scene they hadn't showed any unlike other OHY. Even though she wasn't there she was prominently in PDKs mind unlike Han Tai Jin. In a weird way its making ourOHY+HTJs love life seem lame. The way she moved to PDK it comes across she didn't care much about HTJ and also it being more like a rebound.

Because she said herself she never love Han Tae Jin fully. That's why she promised when she ever loved again, she will fight till she got dumped. And we know with whom her heart belongs to, no other the man who made her fiancee went to the prison XD. But I like this route. Interesting...Just like some said, both Do Kyung and Hae Young are crazy in love. Both really CRAZY ><

It's so interesting to see the comments dissecting the episodes. You know you've got a good thing going on when there is actually things to deeply discuss, meanings to be looked for and scenes to analyze.

I'd love it it Dramabeans would start a post to rate like which shows got the most response and comments, just like what they did for Healer when the number of comments reached a new level. I find myself more enjoying shows with more dramabeans comments vs shows with awesome tv ratings :))

I may be the only one who feels bad that Soo Kyung is victimizing Oh Hae Young at work. I mean denying someone a well deserved promotion is not a small thing. I feel bad for Hae Young because I was in a similar position myself. Working hard, but being denied a promotion because I wouldn't tout my own horn and claim credit for my accomplishments when due. I finally learned to do so and got my promotion after many years.

What bothers me is how much of Soo Kyung's discrimination against Hae young is caused by professional factors and how much of this is fueled by Soo Kyung's plain resentment stemming from her brother's cancelled wedding, Hae Young's cancelled wedding and Soo Kyung's own relationship issues? It's clearly wrong to discriminate against a subordinate because of one's personal issues.

Hi, Adal...

I've been keeping an eye on OHY's work situation and how she locks horns with Soo-Kyung. I really think that she has such a philosophical difference of opinion with SK that she'd be better off leaving and opening her own eatery. (I posted about it back on page 1 somewhere, w/regard to team leader Sung-Jin.)

I'm waiting to see what SK does when she realizes that the lunch box that Hoon was raving about was made by the employee whose chops she continually busts, and in whom her other brother has been expressing interest (i.e., calling SK to ask what OHY was wearing that day). Maybe she hasn't overheard office scuttlebutt about lunch yet...

I've been watching her work situation too! I thought that after that drunken night, SK would be more friendly or reasonable to our OHY, but nope! I think a lot of SK's dislike comes from the idea that our OHY called off her wedding and thus is frivolous and not dependable.

After hearing what OHY's team leader said about how the good ideas were all her's and SK's response that he should just take care of himself. I just can't see our OHY getting the recognition she deserves there. I want her to break out into her own business so badly too! main focus: rice! and those delicious looking shrimp dumplings~

Ya, Chandler!

Are you reading my mind again? ;-)

I would be tickled to pieces if OHY and her folks did exactly that -- and beat the pants off of Seasonal Table's yuppie food. It would truly be a Korean soul food eatery. No way could it be franchised, either. Their chow is the real deal... just like halmoni used to make.

I'm looking forward to the day when OHY fires Soo-Kyung as her boss. FIGHTING!

0

jvang,

It's really schizo how SK treats the two OHYs...

She acts professionally towards NOHY, who stood her brother up at the altar -- because that employee is the darling of Big Boss and is being paid a bundle, and is one of those tier-one folks?

She dumps on someone else who (seemingly) did the same thing, but is a subordinate with the same name as her almost-sister-in-law. Some of it I can chalk up to a mean drunk. -- In some ways, she is no longer harassing OHY quite as much (i.e., massaging her neck instead of wringing it when she was falling asleep at her desk).

I'm beginning to think that there's some professional jealousy, and will be closely watching to see if SK changes her tune now that team leader Sung-Jin has told her that the whole concept for a Korean menu was OHY's.

For NOHY, salad rolls and castella cakes are nostalgia items intended to remind customers of the food fads of their youth. For OHY, rice is the age-old staff of life that links the present to the spirit of the land and the ancestors. I know where I'd rather eat...

I think SK treats her like that because she wants OHY to stand up for herself and promote herself.

Before I thought she was just ragging on her, but from this last week I think she actually wants OHY to defend what it is that Korean's want from Korean family restaurant. Back up her ideas with Data (like Jo Hoon did in Marriage Contract). To show that OHY idea's are actually the best and force people to treat her well.

0

Hey, Lola!

I hadn't thought of that.

So SK is really telling her to not just go on her gut, but to document it with market research so that a solid business case can be made for it. It makes a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, SK did such a good job of terrorizing OHY that anything she says comes across as criticism and hostility.

I'm driving along today and I keep having visions of this drama being like "Fight Club", that somehow the 2 OHY's are the same person but split in Do Kyung's coma induced/psychotic visions, and that's why both female leads are so like-able.

I tried to shake that thought, but then I get a vision of Tae Jin being a "split personality" of Do Kyung, and that's why that fight scene makes sense because DK is taking out his frustrations on TJ, and in reality we all think that he is really trying to hurt himself. I know I know it doesn't quite fit, but dang I keep thinking about this, like Do Kyung's uncontrollable visions of the future LOL.

Anyway this comment is so far down no one will read it but I just needed to write this and get it out of my head. Like DK's visions. OMG what has this drama done to me!!!! *crawls away in kdrama induced stupor*

I just shaking my head reading some comments that give impressions that Han Tae Jin is the perfect one out of character while we still even not get to see the real him so far.

It's so different when the pretty OHY still not coming out like everyone saying "we are so ready to hate her". .

Let me remind you that Han Tae Jin was involved in unclean investment. He never tried to search any informations about his ex lover while he was in the jail. He didn't put initiative to ask Hae Young for eating together, it was Hae Young that asked him first. He just let the girl in the bus stop when they met after he's out from jail without offering her the drive.

What I wanna say, it's too early to make conclusion before everything still in shadow.

HK,

Thanks for the reminder that TJ's lawyer friend spoke with OHY when she was waiting at a bus stop. I'd forgotten about that because it feels so long ago. Years instead of only a couple of months.

I had to give TJ brownie points for stopping and talking with her. So awkward. I sense that he was testing the waters to see whether she was going to tell him to drop dead or would be willing to get together and talk. She extended an olive branch, only to immediately feel that she'd put her foot in her mouth by suggesting they go eat. I just hope that she thinks about it afterwards and recalls that he said it would be fine.

I hope for OHY's sake he calls her sooner rather than later.

I think everyone do have their deja vu moments too. Because there was a time I was doing something and suddenly it occured to me, oh, I saw myself doing this before. But of course in PDK situation, it is very serious because the deja vu keep coming to him and then in a minute, the thing he saw happened. And I agree with most people here saying that he might having this issue because of the mistake he did in the past to both TJ and OHY. I just hope PDK is okay and ended up with our OHY. Their kind of chemistry is different and lovely at the same time. I cannot wait for the next episode!

lollipop again thanks much for a wonderful recap!

let me weigh in on the other hae young behavior toward do-kyung & our hae young. i've always felt that the other hae young didn't like our hae young & i got this in the flash back of when she & do kyung were together & she describes our hae young as boring. in the high school flash backs they never do show the other hae young being close friendly with the other hae young or even trying to curtail the bad treatment she received from her classmates when they compare the 2. but she's like all trying to be buddy buddy with her at work! i think the other hae young has been jealous of her family life, a family life she never experienced but wanted. when company went out the other hae young has all these stories about our hae young in high school but says in a back handed way. & then she has the never to tell our hae young that she going to be seeing do kyung & wants our girl permission, oh please! just writing this i'm disliking the other hae young more & more.

i love that our hae young doesn't fall for this pretend niceness of the other hae young & where other may feel she to harsh with her, i believe she standing her ground & wanting to know the real reason she wants a drink with her, she never tried to hang with her in high school, why now?

again i will say there is such a flavor of my lovely sam soon in this drama. yes it my lovely sam soon is my all time favorite k-drama as it was my 1st but it was the main character that pulled me with strong support form the other character. hae young & sam soon are the everywoman!

i'm hating the rest of the week until monday rolls around.
& i too am excited & fearful of an extension to this drama!

I remember in one interview, Seo Hyun jin, the actress for our OHY, said that she feels this drama doesn't really have any evil characters, just a bunch of people entangled in misunderstandings. So, I hold the hope that other OHY isn't trying to be sly. Our OHY hasn't been very honest with other OHY either, she allows her to mistakenly think they are dating and never clarifies since she still hates other OHY because of what other people did to her. It's kinda childish, but I understand it stems from insecurities that I bet she will overcome later on :)

I think Taejin will be sympathetic too, but that doesn't mean he will get our OHY's affections back... His business wasn't very transparent, but it was the loss of a big investment and other investors wanting their money back right away that got him in jail. It was just a few weeks and he was let go with no charges, so I'm guessing it wasn't really a big issue. Taejin and our OHY just keep getting tossed around without a reason why and that is frustrating, but the truth is coming soon I bet.

Our OHY and PDK's connection must be strong because when he had that crash vision, OHY also turned around quickly like she felt something was wrong. Everytime these two are close the parting ways, PDK's visions comeback stronger, so I can't help but think the visions won't stop until they resolve the truth. I am reminded of when our OHY and PDK met the first time at the bar and she said she was glad he wasn't close to her friend because she hates complicated relationships. Their relationship would be just between them two (but no it wasn't). I can see them going their separate ways at the end and then finding each other again and starting on steadier ground.

That vision of them kissing tho! So out of character for both of them, plus the all black outfit he wears makes me think PDK is gonna have a change in character due to the pressure of the visions, Taejin returning, and dealing with telling OHY the truth.

so I'm guessing that PDK will get hit by a car. The pain he felt was on his left side. Which probably meant that the car hit the drivers side. Also, the vision of him kissing oh hae young there's a big possibility that he will avoid that. I hope my guess is wrong because I've been dying here waiting for this romance to blossom. PDK's reluctance is killing me!! But i do understand that his guilt is the biggest obstacle to this romance. I just want them to be together soon but i this writer is a bit sadistic to the viewers. He loves to see us get tortured week by week. Ok, gotta move on with my life today and just be patient until monday comes again.

TJ & DK fight: TJ being released and the news of them meeting/planning to eat together made DK jealous & mad. DK wanted 1 punch for TJ hurting OHY so badly. DK said it was ok for him to get punched 10x, the reason is for all his wrongdoings. DK is madly in love and cannot express himself & sort out his emotions. Love makes ppl jealous, act crazy & childish at times. Just like OHY throwing the rock & breaking his window! My thought of OHY during that scene was... what a psycho, she totally looked like the crazy gf (and they are not even really bf/gf officially yet).

TJ's lame excuse for breaking off the wedding: In Asian culture saving face is extremely important, not only for TJ but his family's reputation as well. He could not reveal to her the truth re: failed business scam & going to jail! TJ didn't even tell his family & is still hiding that fact from his mother as seen in this ep. This does not mean that TJ did not love and/or was not good to OHY. The scenes of TJ & OHY showed nothing but bliss. Some men cannot express themselves and cannot be honest. Imagine him telling her he had to break it off bc of what was really going on! Her family would lose so much face, completely humiliated & be the talk of the town on another level (worse than the situation as it is- just breaking off the wedding).

Pretty OHY: I have to say that she's the typical pretty girl that's overly fake. Annoying! She craves for the attention & wants to seem perfect all the time. (I know girls in real life just like her, again annoying ;-p). Her being catty and telling OHY they my & how they're(her & DK) going to continue to see eachother is basically her attempt to get OHY to feel uneasy & back off. (Oh i just wanted to slap the b****!). OHY is no longer that timid quiet girl that just let's Pretty OHY win, though OHY needs to get a little stronger as mentioned by her boss that she needs to defend her own ideas. And Pretty OHY being fake at work with OHY as if they were bff is also annoying um, get off my arm b****. It's become a competition for DK for Pretty OHY, she can't deal with the fact that DK is choosing to spend his time with plain jane OHY. Pretty OHY's desperate attempt to get DK to play ping pong 10x more was to force DK to spend more time with her so she can win him over & make him fall in love with her again. Uh... *Note that everytime she won, he had to grant her a wish! Her ultimate wish is for him to get back with her.

What I'm loving: This drama! DK & OHY is killing me, I want them together in he end ;-) I've completely fallen in love with DK. I'd if they get closure from their exes. Many relationships end with no closure. Stop moping & move on. Love finds you when you least expect it, like DK & OHY. Your mind says one thing, and the heart say another. DK keeps chasing OHY but cannot admit it. Ooooooooooooo I can't wait for the next ep. Yes, I would be hitting DK too! DK seems like a player...

I loved this drama.
the story inside full of emotions and seems realistic in all aspects.
realllyyyyy love dirt oh hae young family... they were united both in bad or pleasant ways... no wonder our hae young always straight bold about her feelings.

my favorite scene in this episode is when do kyung againts tae jin face to face.
something that remembered about our hae young words.."i'll hate someone whom I like hate too". because that was thing she should do for her loving ones.
I think do kyung was really in love with our hae young without him aware about itself. He hate Tae Jin cause our hae young hate the way tae jin broke up with her.
Such a genuine emotions...

Im sooo conflicted with the events in this episode! I cant help but think Do kyung is indeed losing it and actually got SO angry at TJ because he cant deal with what he did to both Hae Youngs directly or indirectly... At first, i was like 'wait, TJ did what he did cuz you ruined him!' but then I took it as him picking a fight with himself and involving poor clueless Taejin on his problems once again.. what he said could go both ways tho cuz Taejin could certainly tell Haeyoung what was really happening and not letting her in the dark -probably mirroring how the other Haeyoung left him without a word or how he never discussed 'pitying/loving' the other HY- just like Dokyung could have dealt with the news that 'Oh hae young was getting married' like an adult instead of getting revenge. To me, most of the relationships in the drama -TJ/HY, DK/both HYs, DK/evil mom- had communication issues and those issues are following our leads to the point theyre making one borderline mental. Aside from confronting his mom and dragging her with his therapist to fix his trouble with love, Do kyungs sanity may comeback if he confessed what he did... he has a chance to tell the truth and let our HY decide what shes gonna do instead of deciding for her. Even tho I hate how dramas make leads that some time off 'to figure out what they feel' , this is a drama that is actually making me ask for that cliche cuz our leads need some to figure out how they really feel once some cats are out of the bag.

This drama has to be the highlight of my week. I would just like to mention that from the beginning I liked pretty oh hae young... she seemed like a swet girl. She couldn't help that she was pretty or that people liked her it was our hae young deal that she was dealing with self confidence issues. But here in this episode, solidified my admiration for her. She is acknowledgeing that she can't restart with Do Kyung. so very realistic and mature of her. Of course she will need lay rest her feelings for Do Kyung first.
I wil say as I say at the end of all the episodes so far:
I have boarded and the wind is blowing hard..im all set to sail away...but was long as the "little " secret of him ruining her wedding is still hidden. My ship cannot sail.

On another note, I cannot fail to mention how beautiful jae yoon is? WOOOAH! I almost got off my ship ^_^

I just realized in the beginning of this episode, Do Kyung told Other Hae Young that pity is what he felt for all the people he loves. Does that mean he loves Our Hae Young too? He kinda said he felt pity towards Our Hae Young when Our Hae Young asked why is he being so nice to her.

okay am i the only one who's too slow to realize this indirect confession.....

but honestly, i think it is now more than 'pity' that he felt towards Our Hae Young. saranghaseyo

I just can't imagine she would be in a good place if she ended up with Do-kyung, especially with the state he's in at the moment. He's all over the place and Hae-young, who's in need of some healing time herself, is only there to mend him. It's unfair to her.

And I can't believe what Do-kyung did and have done to Tae-jin. Yes, Tae-jin broke Hae-young's heart, but it was so that he could, in his mind, protect her from the shame of marrying a criminal (Hae-young seems to be a proud person, and I'm assuming Tae-jin knows that). But Do-kyung ruined Tae-jin's life, and subsequently his oncoming marriage, just because he was jealous his ex broke his heart. Tae-jin was wrong to lie to Hae-young about his situation, and we'll need more time to understand his character as a whole, but it does not make him the default villain in this story just because Do-kyung is the current good guy. Look beyond the fact that he's the main lead and you can see he has a lot of problems to sort himself.

Saying that, I love how this drama is painting multiple layers for each character beyond the stock personalities they usually have. Everyone has differing opinions on each characters simply because of how complex they were written, and that's a good thing. Here's a drama that allows us to see the multiple facets that is human psyche. I hope the 2 episode extension allows them to settle all (or at least most of) the problems that have occurred in the story and we get characters that deserve the ending they do, whether or not that means walking off into the sunset hand in hand.

Every other year or so a grown up drama goes out. In 2014 it was "It's Okay, That's Love;"
In 2012 it was "A Gentleman's Dignity."
And this is 2016 grown up drama.

I fail to see what people find in this drama. Granted the two leading ladies do a fabulous job in acting their respective roles. Eric is mediocre in his acting. The story revolves around 4 liars. Two of them are unbearable in the kind of things they did or do. Eric's character that brought about the bankruptcy of "plain OHY" fiance, and that caused the cancellation of the marriage. Not only that, but he does not bother to tell "plain OHY" the truth, and instead of going on his knees in front of the ex fiance whom he destroyed, he punches him. "Plain OHY" did not even have time to mourn the cancellation of her marriage, before she decided to move on Eric's character. She pretends he is her boyfriend, and she is entitled to him - when his ex-girlfriend comes and wants to square things with him. Pretty OHY, is not only gorgeous, but she is kind, and generous, and no wonder everyone loves her. We can see her real pain when it comes to Eric's character, given she did what she did, because of his mom. Frankly, the most despicable character in this drama - is first, "Plain OHY" (and I love the actress. I think she does a great job), and second - Eric's character. I want to tell "Pretty OHY" - let him go. He does not deserve you. Let him be with the vulgar queen B... he is choosing. They deserve each other.

I swear at the beginning of this drama, I love our Haeyoung and feel a little bit peeved at Pretty Haeyoung..
But as the stories go, I found myself admire Pretty more and more while our Haeyoung somehow has a declining development in her personality..
I have to say that this drama makes it somehow that our Haeyoung is supposed to be pitied and we supposed to feel sad for her because many bad things happen on the same time for her.. okay, I give her that reason..
But I don't like how she grew more childish each and more episodes.. she is whiny, hating and blaming other people, and pushy..
and at the end of the day, the drama just makes sad situation for her so I supposed to feel sad for her again..
So sorry, that's not working for me..
Because more than sad situation, I see more clearly to our Haeyoung as a person herself, and I disappointed with how her character turns out..

So far, pretty Haeyoung is more mature, acknowledging her fault, and respect others..
I don't care there are soooooooo many people said she is fake etc.. I feel that AT THE BEGINNING..
but as I know more, I feel that she is sincere and honest in her every actions toward others.. she maybe faking her smile in order to hide her pain, but aren't we do that all the time? there's no need to flaunt sad face over my unfortunate family situations!
