Jin Gu and Kim Hyun-joo don’t want to be Wanted
by girlfriday
Uh-oh, this drama is supposed to premiere in June and it still doesn’t have a cast. Things already seemed down to the wire when SBS suddenly pulled melodrama Deal off its roster and replaced it at the last minute with the new thriller Wanted, but now both potential leads have turned down offers to star, which leaves the show back at square one with only five weeks to go until the premiere. I know dramaland productions often cut it close, but it seems particularly bad this time.
The thriller is about a top actress who fights to get her son back when he’s kidnapped. In an unusual setup, the kidnapper instructs the actress to complete missions on live TV, and she’s forced to comply to keep her son safe. Kim Hyun-joo (I Have a Lover) was being courted to play the actress, and Jin Gu (Descended From the Sun) was offered the part of the lead detective, a dogged cop who becomes obsessed with solving the case.
So far Uhm Tae-woong (Valid Love) is still considering one of the other leading roles, so that’s promising. He’s up for the part of a cable television producer and the heroine’s first love, who sets up a live broadcast of a reality show where she can complete her ransom missions. At the helm are PD Park Yong-soon of Divorce Lawyer in Love, and new writer Han Ji-wan.
It seemed like Jin Gu might be a long shot from the start, but it’s too bad that Kim Hyun-joo turned it down too, since I thought they’d be pretty perfect for the roles. The drama has all the right ingredients in the story to be tense and thrilling… if only they could get a cast and start shooting. Between this show and Beautiful Mind, it’s going to be a live-shoot madhouse come June. Everybody take your vitamins!
Wanted is scheduled to follow Entertainer on Wednesdays and Thursdays in mid-June.

Yikes! What's with all these dramas not being able to cast anyone lately?

I think there's either a lot of bad show ideas out there or the actors are really fed up with behind the scene shenanigans at various levels.

Yeah I knew Kim Hyun Joo wouldn't take it because she said prior that she has no immediate plans to work and that she has an exhibition coming up in June for her botanical arts.
I hope this drama actually happens because yikes, time's coming up fast.

Jun Jihyun should be back to dramaland and play heroine character like this one instead of cast on "that show" with Lee Minho. She can pull off a badass female character.

Agreed. The role in the drama which supposed to be with LMH is just a piece of cake for her. But it has more than 90% success guaranteed, that the advantage.

Yeah. She already had that huge success with another hallyu actor Kim Soohyun on Man From Another Star. She probably wanna has more with the famous Lee Minho.
Especially after that mega hit Descendants of the Sun.
But I personally want her to play heroine with character depth as she is an A-class actress. Not just another light themed romance comedy. She can pull off anything much much more if she wants.

The only option SBS has is to air 4 episodes short drama after the end of Entertainer or extend Entertainer with few more episodes which is not definitely a good idea.
SBS planning is poor though. Pity the actors and the crew too.
Now can I hope Kim Hyun Joo will be offered the lead role in Woman With a Suitcase?

why does the drama plot sound more like a movie plot? how are they going to drag that across 16 episodes?

It depends on the script writer. It won't be draggy if the writer has the ability to create intense and thrilling stories based on the plot.
Look at God's Gift 14 Days as an example, it was awesome and clearly not draggy at all. Minus the ending, that show is one of the best Kdrama thriller.

No but it helps to to have one a good writer with experience and reputation.
I'm pretty sure Kim Hyun-joo wouldn't turn down a last minute offer from a writer like Jung Ha-Yeon.

Don't have any idols who don't have act skill please
So sad, Kim Hyun Joo fit this roles.
Why SBS don't add any romcom or short dramas and let Wanted broadcast after it?
Please, don't cancel 'Wanted' i think it will awesome with good cast.

Eeeps! It must be really bad if even JinGoo turned it down since now's the time he should be striking the iron and getting exposure.

@Peeps
But isn't Jin Goo currently busy filming a movie now, though? 'Cuz that might be a reason why he rejected this offer.. :/

I don't think pilot is bad. Jin Goo might want a drama which easy to popular with teenagers (such as DoTS).
"Wanted', of course can't popular like DoTs so he declined

Kind of the reverse really. Instead of grabbing any quick offer and maybe getting a bad show, he should be choosy and take something that will elevate his career. Heck, he might be waiting for China to offer him fat sacks of cash to come over and do a show.

Aw man. The awesome almost-castings that never come to be. I liked the thought of these two working together.
More than anything, I liked the idea of Kim Hyun-joo being in a prime-time drama again. It's been a while. I haven't watched a full drama of hers since Ms. Kim's Quest.

It's just sad how many dramas with even an inkling of potential just get thrown away on this stupid system. Every drama deserves a chance to be at its best, even if the end result is closer to D-Day than Friend, Our Legend lol. I'm bummed we won't be seeing KHJ anytime soon, but otoh I can't be sad she is missing out on this madness. I just hope the next project she picks is worthy of her--it's been a long time since Cruel Palace.

Cruel Palace really showed her true talent. My first time watched her was in BOF as LMH's coolest noona, but had became a huge fan started from Cruel Palace.
Cruel Palace also achieved quite a good rating for JTBC drama. I hope we can see her back at the end of this year. I really want her to win Daesang.

Give it to writer Jung Ha-Yeon to bring out the best in almost every actors that he'd work with.
I was really skeptical when she was cast as Lady Jo but she stepped into the role and owned it like a pro.
Would've love to see her in a weekday primetime role or another 50 eps sageuk.

Speaking of which, I finally broke and started Queen Insoo...Jin Ji-hee, Kim Mi-sook and Kim Young-ho have been really amazing so far, but Ham Eun-jung is really impressing me, too! Jung Ha-yeon is a miracle worker.

I remember rolling my eyes when Eun-jung was cast. I was thinking ... (great another idol actress) but she was so good and I really miss her after her part was over.
I think she is one of those rare actress turned idol that can do both successfully. It's too bad that the bullying scandal took a toll on her reputation.
The one actress that shocked me the most was Park Si‑yeon. I thought she was terrible until Bittersweet Life. She was really good in Nice Guy too.
I've learnt to just shut the heck up and enjoy the show when it comes to Jung Ha-yeon dramas lol.

Yeah, I could not believe that Park Si-yeon in Bittersweet Life was the same person who'd acted in My Girl lol. Same with Seo Woo in Flames of Ambition (she was never bad like PSY, but I feel like she never lived up to her potential until Flames, either).

aww, this is something i'd have loved to see kim hyun-joo in. she only ever seems to do weekend dramas, and i want to see her more in prime time/mainstream stuff. i really like her as an actress.
ack now i remember that drama she did with ji jin hee—miss kim makes one million or something, from years and years ago. loved her in that, and i think i had a huge crush on ji jin hee for awhile after that drama! ha oh memories.

So sorry, my thumbs jump on the post button. Just want to say, if only Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum were schedule-free, they probably would save this drama. Just like what happened around KMHM casting. From Lee Seung Gi and Lim Ji Yeon. And ended with the superb Js and Hje.

I think this is the price that SBS have to pay since "won the battle" between them and KBS for "Jealousy Incarnate" starring Gong Hyo Jin and Jo Jung Seok.
Even it's just another drama, but it looks like SBS just "make fun" for this. If they seriously want to get lead role for "Wanted", better in a hurry and spread to more potential actors and actresses, because there are more. Airing in June, a way impossible. Think of it.
