Drama viewership ratings for the week of May 16-22, 2016

All the action’s happening in the Monday-Tuesday slot lately, what with Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho doing the best out of any weekday primetime drama, and Oh Hae-young Again doing gangbusters over on cable. It’s certainly got people’s attention, and luckily, for all the right reasons.

While Neighborhood Lawyer clocked its highest numbers yet at 15.3%, Oh Hae-young Again has seen a meteoric rise in just a few weeks, reaching 6% in its sixth episode. Due to a promise the cast made if the show were to go over 3%, three lucky viewers got a chance to visit the filming site.

But due to another promise from actress Jeon Hye-bin, should the show reach over 10%, one lucky fan will get to be Eric’s girlfriend for the day. (Well, technically, girlfriend to Park Do-kyung, the character he plays.) I don’t know why I love cast promises so much—maybe it’s because they’re so fun to keep track of. And somehow, I get the feeling he’ll be going on that date pretty soon.

Sorry you think that way... despite the missteps by the pd (I don;t think the scriptwriter did anything wrong), I still think CITT's one of the best webtoon adaptations I've seen. Love it --- even the finale.

[Warning~Rant: Also, I'm getting a little frustrated by the continuous hate CITT's getting. I understand the reaction, I really do, but the repeated negativity towards the show every time it is mentioned gets a little tiring already. I've been recommending the show to my friends and they love it so I think it's unfair to those who haven't watch it yet to read the comments and decide they don't want to watch it based on what they've read online and not give it a fair chance. I also disliked the ending of a certain show on tvN earlier this year, but I've refrained from dissing it on comments even if I think it deserves more negative comments than CITT. ~end rant~]

If people decide not to watch a show because of comments others made then it is their choice. Forums are there for people like us to discuss our opinions whether in favor or not. If we are no longer allowed to voice our opinions on these types of blogs then what are the blogs for??
I only wrote this because you stated that it is unfair for those who haven't watched the show yet to read the comments... again it is their choice to watch it or not, also it is their choice to read the comments or not.

I am one of those that totally hated the direction the show took towards the end. It completely ruined it, in my opinion.
Although I think it ruined it by the end, I still tell people to watch it cause the beginning/middle of he show was really good and worth it.

Last week I asked some of you lot how The Flower in Prison is, and since the reaction is not so bad, I gave it a chance. I have caught up till Episode 7, and am pleasantly surprised that Jin Se-yeon has improved from terrible to bearable. I can't help comparing her to Kim Sae-ron who is in Mirror of The Witch because these two are the sageuk dramas I'm currently watching, and I am of the opinion that both actresses have about the same skill. I am positive these two young ladies will improve in the future and I am excited because it means we'll get more talented 20's age group actresses in the market (well, Sae-ron will need 5 more years).

The Flower in Prison feels similar to Dae Jang Geum in that our titular character starts doing something else (Flower in Prison - a spy, Dae Jang Geum - a kitchen maid) but they will be known as something else later down the road (Flower in Prison - an advocate, Dae Jang Geum - a doctor) and I am pretty excited to see how the writer and PD will bring the story next. I agree with some of you though, that Park Joo-mi needs to work on her acting. The way she delivers her lines are just too stiff sometimes. Also, did anyone noticed how Go Soo's tone of voice goes kinda cutesy when he's speaking to Jin Se-yeon? So. cute.

The new episodes of Mirror of the Witch seems bland to me, which is probably because we see less of Yeom Jung-ah in episodes 2 & 3. I am so glad to see her back in episode 4. I love watching her, Lee Sung-jae & Yoon Shi-yoon.

I'm not familiar with Saeron's acting since MoTW is the first drama of her that I watch. Judging solely on this drama, imo Saeron still has a long way to go. When she spoke her lines during the parts that supposed to be tense, I can't feel it. Perhaps her tone? By far, her portrayal of Yeon Hee seems quite bland to me. I'm hoping that she will improve throughout the series.

The Flower in Prison is the first drama of Jin Seyeon that I watch. All these while, I read comments here and there about how bad her acting was. Surprisingly, I find her acting is bearable. Her expression is okay. Only that, it got something to do with her voice/tone. I hope that she will take this drama as an opportunity to learn as much as she can and improve her acting.

Ep 1 of MoTW was absolutely fantastic. Ep 2 was great. Ep 3 and 4 were average. I like Kim Sae-ron enough, but this is by far her weakest acting that I wish they would've picked a different actress (b/c everyone else is strong and perfectly casted). I was annoyed that when she finally saw the world for the first time, there was no sign of awe or surprise. She was just smiling like it was any other day. And the last scene of Ep 4 where Heo Jun blocked the arrow, she just turned her head to look at him w/ no expression at all. Yep, she's bland.

It is a huge disappointment for me when everything else is perfect for the main part. She's the main part. Of course, my expectation is high. I'm so into this drama but watching her parts has become a stressful event for me.

I dropped FIP (maybe because for a while) due to time constraint. Jin Se Yeon really have a huge luck ( strong agency to back up her). She is bearable, but i dont think she is lead material yet (but she already being a lead for few hit drama before).

I will pick up later, because I want to see Go Soo. Thankfully JSY is at least bearable this time, otherwise I cannot help to feel a pity for Go Soo.

And I love the way he eats his food too... with so much relish.. It makes me go hungry every time...lol. I'm also loving the humor in it... I think 2nd episode was the best of the 3. Really really hope the show will carry forward beautifully like this till the end...

Me too! First episode was awkward cutting here and there. Some parts need sound while others need the silence. Some parts need to be cut shorter while others need to be longer. But hey, I'm pretty happy and satisfied with how it's getting better in each episode! Love the cast. This drama is so light and easy to watch.

Yesss beautiful Gong Shim!
At first I kept seeing Nam Gyu Man from Remember in Namgoong Min (his previous role) but after 3 eps I've fallen for Ahn Dan Tae (or Ahn Dan Takshi lol). It's refreshing that Gong Shim won't need a dramatic makeover - she just has to take off her wig. Anyway, can't wait for ep 4!!!!

0

He's such a weirdo, too, which I love. Usually Kdrama leads are either cold with a gooey center or rough but with a heart of gold, but he's just so strange and different, he's absolutely hilarious to watch.

Gongshim is similar, for that matter; she may think she's normal, but the truth is that she's super weird, too. And I love her for it.

I CANNOT WAIT until our two weirdos get together, let me tell you!

Oh my gosh! I just saw this show and I have to say I already loveeeee Namkoong Mi's character (or maybe it's him). I haven't seen him in anything else, but there is something about him that's so adorable. On the other haven't warmed up to Gong Shim's character. The bell she has to part crowds while she's walking is just rude. Also, she's irrationally disgusted with him all the time. I feel for her and really don't like her that much at the same time. Maybe that will change with time.

0

Yup. Love the character. Which is great because Namgoong Min has had much better luck with playing interesting villains than he has had playing memorable protagonists, so I'm glad he may have found one here. The drama itself could be smoother, but it's very enjoyable so far.

0

Omg!! I adore Ahn Dan Tae.. He's so weird and off beat. ACtually, both leads are weird. I already liked NGM, I think he's doing really well, the silly and the heart.

I'm prepared to get progressively pissed off at the sister as the series goes on.. (and it's a weekend drama!! I knew I should've stayed away until it was ending)

0

"He’s such a weirdo, too, which I love. Usually Kdrama leads are either cold with a gooey center or rough but with a heart of gold, but he’s just so strange and different, he’s absolutely hilarious to watch."

Exactly!! I'm really enjoying NGM's performance as this character.

0

Kender, after what you wrote in the last OT I enjoyed watching BGS and thinking of you and your husband being just out of view during the park scenes! That looks like such a pretty neighborhood. What is the big old stone building across the street?

I love NGM and Minah and (so far but I think he'll need a spine soon) the rich guy but boy, I'm hating Gong Shim's parents a lot. On a slightly related note I happen to be watching Tree w Deep Roots right now and am cracking up that GS's weaselly little dad was Lee Bang Ji, Joseon's greatest swordsman in that show. It's too much to accept that my beloved Byun Yo Han of Six Flying Dragons grew up to be that guy ... ? ... that's just wrong.

It's probably a house. That side of the park is surrounded by larger, more expensive homes (think anywhere from $800,00 to several million US dollars; my side of the park has walk-up apartments haha). The neighborhood is really pretty, though, especially in spring and early summer with all of the azaleas and roses in bloom.

Gongshim's parents irritate me too. No matter how much "better" your older daughter is and how much you depend on her, you don't throw your younger daughter under the bus like that! And taking away her bedroom to give her sister a closet??

That's a really nice house and extensive designer wardrobe for a junior lawyer to be supporting on her own, along with her parent's debt. Looking forward to more explanation of just how that work$$$.

Love Gong Shim, the two male lead are gorgeous, beautiful smiles, the story line is bittersweet, but the funny moments are hilarious, the actress that plays Gong is hilarious, as is her costar who plays Dan Tae love everyone but the evil sister (not really evil) but a manipulative money grubbing opportunist, yep I don't like her.....enjoying the series immensely.

NGM really fits as a lead and I'm so proud of him. Minah's acting is faaaarrrr from my expectations, I didn't know she's quite good. I hope she improves more as the drama continues. It's getting better and enjoyable in each episode ♡♡♡

I don't like it, I LOVE IT! It's weird, fun and hilarious. Both leads are great TOO!!! NGM has proven his acting versatility. I'm glad I tried watching despite all the negative comments in the last OT post.

I really wish it wasn't on SBS though because it might eventually get stifled by cliche kdrama plots and contrivances just to fill up the set amount of episodes.

The fact that's it's 20 episodes makes me really nervous too. I wish it could be a fun, cute story of friendship, love and growth relayed tightly in 12-14 episodes.

When asked whether they’ll be promising something else for the 10% mark, Eric answered, “We didn’t really think we would be carrying out our 3% or 5% promises so they turned out to be whatever, but we’ll have to think hard for the 10% promise.” Jeon Hyebin answered, “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to make these promises alone, but if our drama hits 10% viewership ratings, how about we pick an avid viewer of ‘Another Miss Oh’ and let her go out with Park Dokyung for a day?” Eric repeated to her words, “We’ll have to think hard about it.”

It doesn't make sense to be comapring a rom.com to a sageuk that is based on true historical event. Not only that but Jackpot is a weekday show and GS is a weekend show. More people are watching tv during the weekends.

Jackpot is not an easy show to understand. Some people find it boring and confusing and some find it intriguing from a historical point of view.

To each of their own. Ratings does not determine the quality of a show but we all want our favorites to do well.

Noodles started off really strong, but the most recent episodes have felt unbalanced to me - the evil guy is almost unstoppable, the coincidences screwing up the good guys are nuts, and the storylines are somehow thin. There seems to be a lot of cases where person A should have told person B something (because it's natural human behavior to do so) but didn't because the writer needed a certain plot point to happen. Smart people doing stupid things, etc.

I really, REALLY liked the show at first, to the point of watching raw, but now I find myself skipping through the raw just to get highlights and then rewatching Oh Hae Young.

0

Required fields are marked *

MoN is the sort of show I usually really like. It plays perfectly straight but its premise is funny and ridiculously overblown. Taking noodle making and turning it into a proxy for evil, corruption, the mafia, murder and mayhem is actually kind of novel. I mean, our exceptionally villainous bad guy, evil even by k-drama standards, is going to take over Seoul one secret recipe heritage buckwheat noodle at a time! And our hero is going to get his revenge by mastering the art of noodle making. It's all so absurd and overblown making noodles the centre of everybody's world. I had high hopes. But there is a big difference between playing it straight and taking it too seriously and I fear the show has crossed over into taking itself too seriously.

Kwak Si Yang hesitantly agreed, "We'll only watch the game. Nothing else," then added, "If it goes over 10%, we will invite fans and go on a 1 night, 2 day trip."

SBS should not have put Beautiful Gong-Shim in a weekend time slot. It is not a family drama. Both this writer's previous works - Rooftop Prince and The Girl Who Sees Smells were a weekday drama. They just set up this drama to not be able to compete with family drama. Shame on them.

I haven't watched it at all, but all the comments I've read about it on DB have been quite negative.

I wonder if its appropriate to ask DB to put variety viewership ratings for the week. since i really enjoy reading viewers comments in general instead of per episode/drama.. made me wonder what people thoughts are on variety shows (esp the weekends one)

Hahaha, but considering only RM is being recap (and also this is primarily a drama site)...i guess not. haha.
