Director Hong Sang-soo films latest project at Cannes with Isabelle Huppert
by tinebella
Lauded indie filmmaker Hong Sang-soo (Hahaha, Our Sunhi) is busy at work on his latest project, and he’s actually filming it right now at the currently-in-progress 69th Cannes Film Festival. Kim Min-hee (Agassi) is killing two birds with one stone; she’s at Cannes for Agassi, and will be making a special appearance in director Hong’s film as well, after having previously starred in his last movie, Right Now, Wrong Then.
French actress Isabelle Huppert (The Piano Teacher, 8 Women) will take the lead in the film, and had previously worked with Hong Sang-Soo in In Another Country. They had pledged then to work together again, and they’re keeping that promise now. As is Hong’s style, not much is known about Huppert’s character, but her role is said to be that of a part-time high school teacher and writer.
Filming on the project, which is currently untitled, started on May 11 at the Cannes Film Festival, although it’s unknown how the backdrop will be reflected in the project. Hong’s 2007 film Night and Day was set in Paris, but did not feature popular Parisian locales, so it’s likely that this film will incorporate Cannes in a less-than-conventional manner.
In addition to Kim Min-hee and Huppert, the project will also feature Jung Jin-young (Ode to My Father, Time Renegade) and Jang Mi-hee (Madam Antoine, Unkind Women), both of whom will be working with director Hong for the first time.

Hm... so he's actually filming it in the festival? Sound like a fun idea, though it could also be a lot of trouble. Are the attendees going to be filmed in as a crowd scene, or are they just going to use empty areas as a set? Curious...

This should be interesting.
shallow note: I LOVE Kim Min-hee's lipstick in that pic, her lips are the colour of full-blown rose petals and it's gorgeous.

I'm not actually too keen on this. I did not make an effort to watch In Another Country, because the trailer felt cringe-y and awkward to me. I'll still be looking out for this movie, though, since I like Kim Min-hee. I have only seen a few of Hong Sang-soo's movies (the ones starring Lee Sun-gyun), but I really like the overall calm and quiet feel of his films. Also, watching his movies mostly make me feel like I need to study Korean more, since there's a lot of dialogue and I feel like I'm missing a lot by just relying on subtitles.

A French as the main actress? I'm surprised! I guess there's no telling what'll happen next in the Korean entertainment industry these days. Whatever's new becomes a big blockbuster. Take Crayon Pop or Akdong Musician for example. They both are very popular, although they're fairly new. It's because they're a little "different" than the mainstream Kpop. I approve of differences that shine, and I'm sure many people would agree.
