Running Man: Episode 295

With the hundreds of guests that have appeared on this show over the years, not everyone has had the easiest time. So this week, our cast will seek out those whom they’ve felt most guilty towards, offer up their apologies, and give them a chance to redeem themselves. Once they’ve cleared the air with other celebrities, they’ll spend some time to look inward and examine their own hearts with the people who matter most in Running Man: each other.

EPISODE 295. Broadcast on April 17, 2016.

Today’s preview hints at an amusing but emotional special, which starts off with our cast on their way to filming in their respective cars. On the radio is Kim Chang-won’s show This Beautiful Morning, who has a special segment this morning: song dedication from one RM member to another.

The first is from Suk-jin, who apologizes for calling Kwang-soo “Song Joong-ki’s foot sole” a few weeks back. He only said it for the chuckles, having no idea the crew would then add in a CG sole on his face. And then Suk-jin is surprised when the song is Shin Il-soo’s “Sole”.

The second dedication is from Haha to Gary, for starting the “squid” joke in the X-Man special. Gary has a funny photo to share of his own: Haha’s contorted face while throwing the first pitch at a Lotte Giants game.

The last one is from Kwang-soo to Haha, who’d given him three coupons for yaja time (a chance where the younger get to speak informally to someone older and/or superior, and the latter must show respect to the younger person). Unfortunately, he’s already used them all.

So when they gather for the opening at the SBS building, Haha says he’s given Kwang-soo plenty of “chances” apart from those three. Kwang-soo drops to banmal right then and there, then immediately apologizes.

A large banner reveals today’s theme of “I’m Sorry, I Love You”, where the cast members will visit the guests they felt most sorry for over the years. Jae-suk teases that among those, he feels bad for their longtime guest, Kwang-soo.

In the van, Suk-jin says he still feels sorry towards BESTie’s Haeryung, and they all feel bad for GD. But the first person they visit is actor Park Seo-joon who’s busy filming a commercial.

Ji-hyo notes that Seo-joon’s such a big star now that he has these huge umbrellas blocking out the sun for him. And the next thing you know, she and Haha take out a patio umbrella for him.

The cast and crew are here to apologize for putting Seo-joon through so much, and for erroneously captioning his name as “Lee Seo-joon” in the Beautiful Youth Special. Seo-joon jokes that it hurt to see his family name written as such, so the guys decide to throw him up into the air to make him feel better.

Now Seo-joon can admit that on his very first appearance, he pretended that it wasn’t cold out because it was his first appearance. That, and he came down with the flu the next day because of the exposure to the icy water.

In order to make up for that, the cast insists upon washing his feet. Off come the socks so they can give him a foot massage, and wow, Jae-suk goes in between the toes. Once they’re clean, Kwang-soo even gives the foot a little kiss. And THAT freaks everyone out.

To top things off, Suk-jin takes a whiff of Seo-joon’s sock and says it doesn’t smell at all. Pfftt. Over lunch, Jae-suk mentions how Suk-jin goes around saying that he’s in his 30s. Seo-joon agrees that’s a bit much, and when Suk-jin returns how it would feel to be asked if he is in his 20s, Seo-joon answers, “But I am.”

Lastly, the crew still feels bad of how impatient Ji-hyo got with Seo-joon once, so they’ll be playing charades again. But this time, if any of them can’t guess the answer within 10 seconds, they’ll get a slap to the forehead.

Jong-kook is up first, but as expected Seo-joon doesn’t know how to express “spring”. The timer runs out, and when everyone approaches, Jong-kook says it’s Seo-joon who has to hit him. But the actor feels bad, so Kwang-soo offers to help, and then Jong-kook says he’ll gladly show how it’s done… on Kwang-soo. And Jae-suk.

Seo-joon apologizes once more before he goes for it, and… SMACK. Yeah that sounded like it’d hurt. Next up is Kwang-soo who has to guess “squid” but the others distract both him and Seo-joon until the timer runs out.

This time, Haha is at bat, as he wets his hand before the slap. Finally it’s Ji-hyo’s turn, and Seo-joon acts out an Australopithecus. When she runs out of time, she cries out, “Australia pithecus!”

Kwang-soo steps up for the hit and promises to be gentle… but you can hear the slap. She charges at him and they swipe at each other like siblings. At last, the cast presents Seo-joon with a basket of sagwa (aka apples, a homonym to “apology” in Korean).

We then cut to a cafe for our next guest, actress Lee Yo-won (Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-gi). After listing everything they’re sorry for, Suk-jin says all that exposure was good anyway, right? Er, you’re here to apologize, aren’t you?

At the photo of her haggard appearance by the swimming pool, Yo-won explains that she’d forgotten that the cameras existed by that point. To make up for it, everyone puts on crazy wigs. HA, Gary looks like he came straight out of a sageuk.

They take a crazy group selca, and Yo-won has trouble choosing the most normal-looking person in the shot. She picks Suk-jin and warns him that she’s packing a lot of heat. She goes for it and Suk-jin goes down.

Next, the game: Pour water into a cup over someone’s head while blindfolded. But punishment awaits if they go over the limit by throwing that same cup into their teammate’s face. Yo-won tries her hand first, then stops after the cup overflows just over the brim.

Still, that counts as unsuccessful, but she does succeed with Haha. However, Suk-jin grabs his arm when he goes to show the staff, which results in Haha throwing the contents into his face.

Kwang-soo is next, but she completely misses the cup. That means the water pours onto his head and down his body. What the—did he not even realize any water made it into the cup?

Yo-won prepares to throw the cup of water in Jae-suk’s face, an action she’s used to while filming her latest drama. They re-enact that scene to perfection, and Yo-won is given apology apples as well.

Their next guest is webtoon artist Jo Seok who illustrated his short-lived appearance in his work, Sound of Heart. He says it’s because no one knew that he was actually on the show, and had no idea he’d be invited again.

In the comic, he’d asked if he’d participate in the nametag rippin’ segment, so the staff had prepared his own nametag. Aww. Jo Seok smiles then says he’d like to try and rip Jong-kook’s nametag.

They engage in a 1:1 battle, which Jong-kook wins easily. Jo Seok loses to Gary, and Kwang-soo too. Feeling bad, Suk-jin steps up and Jo Seok says he won’t draw anything like that again—he just wants to go home.

Suk-jin gives him the opportunity for attack, and they both grab each other’s backs simultaneously… and Jo Seok rips off Suk-jin’s nametag first. Aw yay!

He draws caricatures for all the cast members, and later presented with apology apples and a gold nametag.

The cast thinks of more people they feel bad towards in the van. They call up Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, but he’s in Japan, so Gary promises to visit him in Fukuoka. That leads to a preview montage of Gary actually visiting him in Japan.

But for now, our next guest is former H.O.T member Moon Hee-jun whom Jong-kook called a “fatty”. Jae-suk points out that if something like that had happened during the idol group’s heyday, Jong-kook would’ve been brought down by the passionate H.O.T fans.

So when Hee-jun shows up, he greets Gary as an almost-H.O.T member. He says the search terms after that episode are what hurt most: “Fatty Moon Hee-jun” “Moon Hee-jun Fatty” and just “Fatty. He even mentions that his mother was so upset that she cursed out Jong-kook for insulting her son.

With that Hee-jun calls his mother, who still sounds angry about that moment, and hands the phone off to Jong-kook. Then Hee-jun’s mother tells him that after that episode aired, Hee-jun’s niece calls him a “fatty” too. As an apology, Jong-kook offers to personally get Hee-jun into shape.

Hee-jun’s first present is a muscle t-shirt, and then he bites into the apology apple.

Night falls as the cast travels to a camping site meet their final guests of the day: each other. Everyone is instructed to write a letter to the rest of the cast, but Jae-suk takes a long time contemplating what to write before he picks up his pen.

Jae-suk is sent to a separate room, and isn’t the least bit surprised to see Jong-kook join him. They both acknowledge that it feels awkward to be placed together like this, but it’s Jong-kook who opens up first.

He knows that all of his nicknames give off a strong and devilish persona, and admits that he had to force himself to say things he didn’t mean to keep up that image. He knows it’s just a variety show, but there are moments he wonders if he crossed the line and unintentionally hurt his fellow members.

There are more things he’s unable to do now that he’s getting older, and the thought of being unable to meet those former expectations is a cause of concern for him. He had worried that if he doesn’t keep up this strong man image, then he might not appear on any other show in the future. As a seasoned veteran, Jae-suk is understanding to Jong-kook’s concerns.

Meanwhile in the RV, Kwang-soo busts a gut when he sees Ji-hyo. She decides to share first, revealing that her letter was for him. She’s so grateful towards him because when she first joined the show, she’d been concerned that she wouldn’t find a fit with the other guys.

She shrinks as she tells him how thankful she is because Kwang-soo accepted her and listened to all of her rants. She tries hiding the oncoming tears, pulling the “I’m not crying; I’ve just got something in my eye” line.

She tries keeping the conversation light, but then Kwang-soo apologizes for his behavior towards her on the show. He knows there were things he’s done and said that he knew would upset her, and he feels sorry because he did all those things for the sake of entertainment.

He would want to apologize, knowing it shouldn’t happen again, but he’d do something like that again the following week. Ji-hyo says she never takes those moments to heart, adding that that dynamic works for them for the show.

Back in the room, Jong-kook shares how uncomfortable it gets being known as an enemy to someone like Jae-suk on this show. He tries to forget those times as time passes, knowing that it was a role he had to play despite all the flack he’d get for it.

Jae-suk advises Jong-kook to share his feelings to others like he did in this room. He believes the show has sustained itself over the years because all the cast members have played their roles.

He vows to be more mindful of Jong-kook, who says he wants Jae-suk to take care of his health. Jong-kook hopes he can find another angle to hold onto for this show, and with that, their heart-to-heart wraps with an awkward hug.

Over in the pojangmacha, both Suk-jin and Haha laugh upon seeing one another. Haha feels uncomfortable as soon as Suk-jin mentions how sorry he feels towards him. In the beginning, Suk-jin questioned why he was even on this show because the genre was so different than what he was used to—in other words, talk shows.

He later realized that he directed all that pent-up frustration on the rest of them, who only wanted to make him feel more comfortable on the show. He learned to accept his persona around the time the “Race Start” nickname came about, and he felt so sorry to everyone else.

Jae-suk then sits with Gary, who shares his worries about how his Running Man appearance has shaped him and his music. There were times he just couldn’t focus because of the pressure, even when they were filming.

He mentions that there were times when he thought that it’d be better for the show if he’d left. To that, Jae-suk says those feelings are normal, and this show is in a transitional phase.

He likens being on a show to a kiddie ride in an amusement park—it’s fun when you’re a kid, but you can’t always go on the kiddie ride forever. The novelty fades over time, but their job now is to think of novel ways to keep this show fresh, together.

Kwang-soo joins the pojangmacha in time to hear Haha share his heart. He’s smack dab in the middle of the age spectrum, but Kwang-soo’s the maknae of the group. Kwang-soo used to come to Haha about his concerns, but then he became more popular.

He knows it’s hard for Kwang-soo to ruin his image as an actor, but he thinks it’s better for Kwang-soo to keep pursuing variety.

Last but not least, Gary sits down with Haha. Cue awkward silence. Haha apologizes for saying that Gary is ugly, to which the rapper replies, “Well, it’s not like you’re wrong.”

In a serious voice, Gary names Haha as the variety sunbae he looked up to when he first joined. Embarrassed, Haha bursts laughing, and they gruffly end this exchange by telling each other that they’re grateful for one another. Haha: “You’re the best in my life. I love you. You know what? I’m a fan of yours.”

Everyone gathers together again for the closing (Gary and Haha adorably share a blanket). They burn all their letters, and Jae-suk thanks all the nearly 300 guests who have appeared on the show.

It may not always have been easy over the past six years, but it warms my heart to know that no matter what we see onscreen each week, nothing will change the fact that these guys are a family through and through.

Kwangsso and Jihyo is like a frenemies, they have Love and Hate relationships. In one moment they fight and kick each other ass, and in other moment they hugged just like a brother and sister.
Jihyo is grumpy-angry big sister, while kwangsoo is annoying little bro.

I agree. There's is one of my favorite relationships in the cast because you have to be a longtime viewer to really see it in all it's glory, I think. Their friendly affection for each other is great to watch :) Also, it helps that Kwang Soo and Ji Hyo are my favorite members haha.

I loved this episode! It really warmed my heart to hear each cast member share their feelings/insecurities/love for each other! Six years is a long time and this episode seem to indicate a new chapter in their journey. Running Man forever!!!

Why do I feel like the end is near? Well, it's been 6 years, I suppose it's natural to think about moving on and stuff. As a fan, I liked this episode. It gave an insight to their dynamics behind the scenes, though I noticed yoo jae suk didn't say much about himself. As a fan, I feel that although he is very open and approachable on all of his shows, he is really good at deflecting attention away from himself. Would have liked to get into his head for a change. Anyway, running man team fighting! Hope the new pd will stick to some of the fan favourites in addition to trying out new stuff. The recent episodes were kind of hit or miss for me, but looking forward to the next episodes.

This is so true, he's always trying to paint the other person in a better light/make them more entertaining without being nasty. The few times he becomes the focus, it's always heartwarming. I luff him so much. I hope his kind of humor doesn't fade away.

I had that feeling too. But running man fandom is huge internationally however they are not helping that much in terms of earnings I guess, since ratings are pretty low.

I was definitely worried by this episode, because it seems like Running Man was preparing to end. I know that they haven't been getting the greatest ratings, but I still enjoy this show despite some of its misses. I hope that they are able to reform the show to take it back to its roots and make it more exciting.

it was heart warming the way they make the cast sit with each other and talk things out. it was really touching the way kwangsoo treat ji hyo. thr cat chemistry was undeniable.
watching these last few episode i must admit i skip and sometimes never even finish an episode. it was boring and the editing was really really bad. i had no idea what happen. i will not blame the new pd because i am sure he was trying really hard but somehow something felt like a giant mess. its upsetting because this is a show that i have enjoyed since the first ep. some of the cast looked like they barely hanging in. the only enhusiasic member was haha sukjin kwangsoo and jaesuk. the rest are barely there. and i also dont like the way jongkook tells jaesuk that they cannot do physical stuff as much as before. the fans are not asking for that. when people tell them to go back to their old concept it does not mean they wamt to see them get physical. the way they respond seems like they are aware of the criticism. while i do want to keep watching rm i cant help but feels like they are slowly getting close to their limit.

Was it just me, my aunt & my nephew then, who thought this episode (particularly the end - with their heartfelt stories to each other) was really... REALLY... boring? It also felt out of place, with them ending up like a documentary.
Not the thing my nephew wanted from RM. (which is his favorite TV show) He was so disappointed in this episode, he stopped watching midway which is a huge deal bc this kid practically lives for sundays just to watch this show. :(
I feel like they've really gone away from the original premise of the show... which is about... RUNNING. *right? LOL
(i have an external hd that i saved about 100 of the beginning epi's of RM which i watch now & then just to see them running and ripping off name tags and to hear the BELLS! <loved the bells~T__T why can't they go backkk to the beginning?)

Methinks they're holding on just for the international fans now bc their ratings have plummeted since the PD change. I really don't think the korean viewers bother to watch anymore.

I felt through this episode they were trying to hint at the fact that the members are no longer able to put themselves into so much exertion. Obviously, all of them are growing old and even KJK said that his body pains at times, so I think they are eventually trying to put an end to all the running games. The bad thing is this was what differentiated running man from other variety shows and this is what the international fans particularly liked. I didn't properly watch the last part of this episode but I believe running man has become pretty boring these days.

while i do think fans like us want to see them getting more active.there are also a lot international fans who still enjoy or are pretending to enjoy the last few episode. i watch the show online and from the comment section there it seems like the majority of them still find the show entertaining. they even told me off and asked me to stay away from the comment section when i was just stating my opinion on how the show has left it touch and became so boring. somehow i think a lot of iternational fans are like kpop fans who will defend anything even if theu also realize the show is jot like what it used to be. its annoying to see that since nothing will change if they kept hanging on to tye show like that. i also felt like the rm production was holding on just for the sake of international fans. the cast showed great chemistry but if the show want to survive then they should just change some members and stick to their original comcept which is rilunning and nametag ripping. but i will have to admit that rm came this far because of the cast chemistry and i do think changing them will make further downing the show since people enjoy seeing them together. at this point i dont know what is the best thing for them to do.

rm cast was no longer an ordinary variety casts. They have bcome an idol group. With RM as the name brand. They are probably equal to top kpop idol group, as you can see whenever they held their fanmeet, it managed to pull hugeee crowd, similar to idol concerts. I think that is why fans finds episode like this not boring bcoz they loves to know more about the cast they loves, learn their insecurites and their future plan for the better RM- and I have a suggestion, if they really want to end the show, hw about make a cinematic movie for rm? and release it worldwide?

RM is just a sinking ship!!

well the show was aired on a korean broadcast and was supposed to cater to the korean. even if tha rating was super high elsewhere it does not take away the fact that the show is struggling in their home country. international fans can cry and shout as much as they want. at the end of the day its the koreans recognition of the show that will keep it afloat. lol

0

if you to talk about korean recognition, rm is the only variety show listed in the top five most influential korean tv series all times. Not infinity challenge, not 1n2d but RM!

And@zizi, yup, including recent episode. RM in youku usually reach 25-30 million views per eps. And 10 million views in just 3 days. The thing is, they generates revenues from this views because it was licensed, bought officially by youku who have the sole right to broadcast RM online in china.
So SBS don' t mind much about rating in korea also bcoz of this reason. That's why RM still can shoots at foreigh country like recently dubai..because they never lacks of money and sponsors!

What international fans are you refered to?

I do still watching running man, they may not be as funny but the cast have really developed and its good to watch them interact with each other. But I, as an international fan dont appreciate being told I like running will defend it just for the sake of it. Dont criticize what you dont know. How would you like it if I called the korean fans flaky for giving up on rm so easily.

anyway...

The reason the shows are not as funny is because they all got too good at name tag ripping, learnt all of each others strengths and generally can predict what will happen easily. But they do have great chemistry as a result.

No if anything a new member should be added. This new member may add some unpredictability to the show as we learn his weaknesses and strengths and he learns the others.

International viewers like me don't help Rm. We just watch it online and laugh or complain if its boring or not our style. First of all it's rating which is important for them if rating is low budget will decreae so amount of guest and episodes with guests will decrease. Decline in rating will effect them mentally too. You should listen to them to understand how they feel.listen to yjs word about play ground and try to understand what he said.they can't do same games over and over.casts and viewers will get tired of it.yeah if a station from other countries buy rm it can be help for them but look china with big rm fandom has chinese version which is very successful while their popularity is decreasing. Now in korea people prefer reality shows and many international viewers like it too and Rm can't be a show just for kids its time slot is weekend evenig and for families .I can understand you I liked rm for what it was and from 2015 didn't enjoy watching rm like how I used to . I'm not saying don't watch it if you don't like it but you can't stop them from making changes and trying new format. It's really necessary even if it means you and some like you don't want to watch it anymore. In their situation they should make changes or cancel it.

Why is the new PD made an apology eisode so early in his days? Those wrong doings not even the cast or hinself (being the new PD) doings.
Its weird to see how he creates the episode. First he make the studio episode put end to some gimmicks (included monday couple) maybe is a good move, yet not really a necessary episode (good thing it was hilarious af). And now apologizing unnecessary things done by someone else.
I see it like its either he is making finale for runningman or he "hates" the old PD that he negated the old PD gimmicks (and not really working. Even some loyal international fans found it boring).

Personally, I find that the pd did a 'apology' episode to let the viewers know explicitly the conflicts going on in rm. for example, it is now very much obviously known that Jong kook is finding hard and painful to exert as much strength as he used to. Not only him, but the rest of the cast have also aged and hence, it is very strainous for them to go around with the games that require the high stamina they used to have. In fact, both Jong kook and jae suk repeatedly mentioned about the importance of their health during their confession session. So in my opinion, this episode isn't about running man ending, rather it is a new beginning for running man. As jae suk said, you can't be playing in the same corner of the playground forever. Likewise, it's time for running man to move on. What we're seeing now is their transitional phase, much like puberty, it's awkward and many people may lose interest in the changes but once running man regains its self identity, I'm sure it'll be able to jump over this hurdle. To me, it's the interaction between the casts that makes me come back to running man. Sure, 1n2d is considerably more fun and funny compared to the current rm but I have grown very fond of the cast to the point where it's the cast themselves that makes me stay, not the running :)

First time posting here >.< ...I just really had to reply to this comment, because I feel exactly the same way. :D I have to admit that I feel that some episodes have been a bit more boring of late, but nobody's 'ON' 24/7, there's bound to be some not so good episodes. They don't make me forget the many amazingly funny, exciting and also touching episodes that I've had the pleasure of watching. Also, no matter what the episode is about, watching the cast (and crew, tbh) bicker like real family members do, just about makes my day/week. I know that no matter how bad my week has been, Running Man is there at the end of it to put a smile on my face.

The foot washing scene reminds me of the 2D1N episode a few weeks back. Although the episode is heartwarming I think it was out of their real concept. I hope they can reinvent the show successfully though.

That's the first thing I thought of too - great, another thing they're ripping off. I'm glad they did it together though, it was way less awkward. Still, they've been doing this for awhile now - subtly stealing bits from other shows. It's getting old. What made Running Man so great to begin with was its unique concept and format, but lately, it's become nothing more than a conglomoration of other variety shows. Literally, the only thing keeping it going is the chemistry of its cast.

I thought maybe that's how he really is in real life, since we all know (and they also acknowledge this) that they are just playing a role in RM. And oh! This is my 1st ever comment in any site! Just because the voice of kwangsoo really caught my attention! hahaha I'm one of those who watch from the Philippines and been a fan of RM since day 1. I wish for more and more years of RM for them! The best part of this ep was seeing KJK get slapped in the head as he has been able to escape big punishments most of the time.

Totally knew that it was going to be Ms. Mong entering the RV and that things were going to be awkward (but cute) btwn the 2.

As far as the whole running thing - it's been a while since they've cut back on the running and it's actually a good thing (not to have too much of it) since it's not conducive towards the members (and guests) trading banter and barbs.

It's not like they don't still have a physically exerting ep every now and then, but for a long time - the "race" involved modes of transportation other than being on foot.

The next ep looks to be more fun (and active) and people will be getting their wish on seeing Joong-ki as he is guesting on the Chinese version which supposedly is in conjunction w/ RM).

i laughed out loud when jihyo and haha took out the patio umbrella for seo joon. The moments with the other guests are hillarious too. The last part with heart to heart conversation only the one where jihyo and kwangso talking that is interesting. Hope next will be good.

I honestly didn't want to like this episode, because every week makes it feel like the show is moving further and further from its original concept - running, chases, games, betrayals, etc. But I must admit, I was touched by the ending scene when all the members got to express their worries and thanks to each other. It made me feel bad for wanting some of them off the show, and was a great reminder that the cast chemistry and camaraderie is really where the heart of the show resides.

However...

The fact remains, this approach isn't going to work for every episode. At some point, you're going to need to give the viewers what they want, what made this show so popular in the first place - running, chases, and yes, physical games.

Now that I'm no longer emotionally compromised and looking back, as much as I love the cast, I still think something needs to change. They said so themselves - they're not as physical as they used to be, and they can't do what's necessary to keep the RUNNING in RUNNING Man. Frankly, I think there's no shame in stepping down when they've reached their limit, and I think what this show truly needs is some young, energetic blood to reenergize it. And if that means losing a few members, then so be it... the cast is so winning, I'm sure whoever they chose would fit right in anyway. And if they're as close behind the scenes as they are on-screen, then they've made friendships that will last forever - leaving isn't going to change that. All it's going to do is give them a smaller paycheck.

To stay past your expiration date is selfish, and all they're doing is dragging down the rest of the cast who are still busy giving 100%. I actually liked what Jae-suk said: Something does need to change. However, it's not the show's concept, like a lot of us have been saying, it's the cast.

I dont get it..since when RM dont do physical games? in fact, just in the recent ep in dubai, lots of running and physicals ( jumping frm aeroplane, building, chasing)-and rm have new good eps too like those zombies theme, and ghost house. All of these STILL FRESH AND NEW. it was just when this new pd take charge, they toned down quite a bit. Maybe the pd will start being physical in later episodes. As for now, just try to keep your mind open :)

It's not so much that the physical games have stopped altogether (nor did I ever say that they did), but it's still clear they've been pulling away from them for awhile now. And honestly, jumping from a plane isn't physical, it's mental; you literally just get pushed out of a plane and do nothing but fall lol. And the Dubai episode took place over seas, so of course they're going to bring back the "running" games; they need to justify the expense somehow.

But even with the few examples you provided, they're still no where NEAR as physical as they used to be. When the show first started, almost every episode involved the name-tag ripping game, or some form of it, but for awhile now they've almost eliminated them completely, only to replace them with less exciting/physical games, or pathetic rip-offs from other variety shows, including Infinity Challenge, 1N2D, and some from Japan (and have been accused of plagiarism several times because of it).

However, the name-tag ripping game is (and always will be) its main staple, and it needs to stay that way. It's what most of the guests want to play (there's a reason they always want to try ripping off a name-tag), yet since it's been so scarce lately, even that's starting to become more rare. And when Running Man becomes more about cast-love/disclosures than actual RUNNING, you've got a problem.

you have said all the right things. it seems to me the cast are barely hanging on. they obviously knew their limit. but seing some of them makin excuses like that just make them look selfish to me. dont get me wrong i love all of them but some definitely looked like they lack the will to participate. the show concept is what make people watch them in the first place. so i think the concept should not be changed because that what make rm different from the other show. they definitely need some changes and if changing cast will help them keep the same concept then i am for it. i love the show more than watching some of the members leave. somehow it felt like some of them were forced to still be there. clearly some of them are struggling and need a break. looking at this i admire song joong ki for leaving when he could have gain more from the show. but he was brave to leave when he knows he is too busy to give his full commitment towards the show. and now i can totally see some of them appear uninterested and tired and still hanging on to the show. it was selfish to me.

I completely agree. I could understand if they're under pressure from the PDs to stay (even though I don't understand why they'd want that, considering the ratings are abysmal, and it would be super easy to find people willing to replace them), but to just stay around for the paycheck and exposure is not okay. I definitely think a cast-change is needed, but something tells me they're going to stick with the current roster until the ratings become so poor that cancelling is the only option... then we'll all be speculating over the new cast for a Season 2.

The last section was damn boring. I guess hardcore fans might find the confessions touching, but rather than explaining their predicaments I'd prefer it if they just came up with new ideas and implement it. I may sound cold-blooded, but I'm not actually concerned about why they are stopping the running or what sort of self doubts they have. I wanted to skip the whole section at the end. In fact, the only thing that was funny in the entire episode was Lee Yo-won's mysterious teeth problem.

I'm just watching RM out of habit now, so I may be a little too harsh with my criticisms. Still. Firstly, KJK doesn't contribute much outside of his Sparta character. Now that he's losing this image because of health issues, he needs to find a new identity. LKS and JSJ are a little too fake when acting out their roles and that bothers me a lot. I get that they're supposed to be crap at games, but I wish they won't make it so freaking obvious that they are losing deliberately. SJH just can't do variety. It's painfully obvious when she's paired up with a guest. She and Gary also don't seem very interested in the show. On a side note, I'm glad now the Monday couple thing is dropped, because it was so awkward while it lasted.

They seriously need an overhaul of the cast, or just scrap the program.

I totally get where you're coming from. The show has been going downhill for awhile now, and I agree, it's in desperate need of a cast overhaul. Most of them are just phoning it in.

Personally, I watch this show for the games, the betrayals, and the humor... the fact that the cast gets along so well is an added boon, but it's not the sole thing that keeps me tuning in. Still, I think it was their frank honesty that got to me this episode, since it felt like they were being genuine for once... but I don't blame you for finding it boring.

This actually would've been a great last episode before some of them leave, but alas, I doubt that'll ever happen.

I think the problem is that the existing viewers are staying for the cast more than the content. They can't overhaul the cast without risking viewers turning their backs on the program completely. But looking at how 1N2D's Season 3 turned out, there's definitely a way to do it if they get an extremely talented PD at the helm.

I used to like the show similarly because of the games and humour. I actually used to like Song Ji-hyo too. I thought her "raw" self suited the show more and now... she's just jaded, like a couple of others really. I think some of them perhaps need to go out voluntarily, but I don't see that happening since RM is sort of THE money-maker for all of them except Yoo Jae-suk and Haha.

i agree with you on what you said about song ji hyo. i used to like her before. but after watching her a long time i must admit she is not cut out for variety. sometimes i pity the guest who had to patner up with her. at first she look like she was trying but now not anymore. the other one is kim jong kook. sjh and him benefitted the most out of running man. i mean they are popular in china. kim jong kook also look like he stopped trying. his supposed real talk with jaesuk sound more like an excuse. kang gary also look like he is out of place. a lot of international fans kept saying they watch the show for the cast interaction but no show can survive that long by only depending on the cast dynamics. if it was successful then family outing would still be running until now. that show had the most outstanding bond between the cast. the production team should not have tried to changed the concept. it was the best things that the program offered to us. i couldnt care less about the cast leaving except for the one who really really tried their best for the sake of making the show more entertaining. now some of them do came off as selfish regardless of the reason on why they are staying. i really admire son joong ki for his decision. he left at the right time. some of them should have done what he did.

I'm right there with you. I used to like Ji-hyo too, but lately she's begun to fade into the woodwork like KJK and Gary. I thought it was because she had so much trouble juggling the show and her dramas, but she hasn't been in a drama for awhile, so that's no longer an excuse. Honestly, I think she should just concentrate on acting, and Gary and JKJ should concentrate on their music. That's clearly where their passion lies because it's obviously not in this show.

And seriously, as a fan of the original 1N2D (and now, Season 3), it's amazing what a difference a PD can make. When I heard there was a new one for Running Man, I actually got excited, but unfortunately, they don't seem up to the task either. It's too bad the existing viewers are so jaded - they're completely settling and they don't even realize it. Or heck, maybe they do, and that's equally sad. They're going to be the ones freaking out when it gets cancelled due to low ratings.

Maybe I don't understand the translation or recap, but why would Jong Kook get flack for his actions or words. Anyone who has watched multiple shows realizes he likes all his fellow cast mates but at certain times he has to show of his strength. (ex: grasshopper mud dunking). I just don't understand why people would be so negative to him for that.

This episode really shows how much the new PD team appreciates the RM members. Often, there are comments like "Why won't Jihyo talk?," "Why is Jongkook so disrespectful?," "Kang Gary needs to leave the show," etc. The production team does care more about the cast as people and value their dynamics and team relationship more than slapstick moments, though that seems unpopular with some viewers. I love that even Jongkook gruffly opens up even though he's so closed off all the time. Kwangsoo always got Jihyo's back even behind the scene. Yoo Jaesuk is like an extension of the production team, he listens AND encourages people like a true mentor.

The convo between Jihyo and kwangsoo made me cry. she was really trying to make it light but you could tell from that how much it meant to her. I feel it's very similar to me in that kind of situation. and to the poster who said kwangsoo's voice was more manly in that, it's what I noticed too!

What we need is less guests
Perhaps the PD could use the old games but played in a different way

Like the name tag ripping, instead of ripping it directly, perhaps put it on an item that describes that person or hide it somewhere

What I'm trying to say is that I believe that the old concepts and physical games can be reused but altered in some way

There's no need to change the cast tbh but ofc if some of them are replaced with guests who shone in RM before then it is fine, maybe just list Ji Sung and Joong Ki as the next new members because we already like and know them

In all of honesty, the problem is only the constant appearance of guests and perhaps dragged games
I didnt like the episode about human vs robot because it wouldve been better if they pulled like the hero episode where only the RM members are in the show and they actually have to work together

Just...sigh. Running Man is my first fav thing from Korea so at the though of it being dull these days make me sad
Let's just hope for the best

Some of the best RM eps have been w/o guests, but at the same time, there have been some really fun eps w/ guests and including eps w/ numerous guests.

The issue is more getting the right guests (guests w/ fun, outgoing personalities) instead of just big names (some of the most entertaining guests have been supporting/character actresses and lesser known idols).

Honestly it's just like Infinity Challenge Coma Special but I don't feel the same way with IC episode. I hope Running Man don't do concept like this again, bring back the old games or find a new concept that different from other show. I skip tonight episode btw.

Boring again...just watch the first part..I can`t bear to watch them just walk and talk..what`s wrong with this PD?.Can she/he even know that this show is famous for its running theme??..gosh,this sounds brutal, but I think if they continue being like this the Running Man with its famous variety theme“Running around”,will just go down into history...sad fact though!!love the cast so much...Are they being lazy to put energy on the show..??they`re like, visiting some friends only while doing some talking and they call it a “SHOW?”

Im agree with u, this show become boring since the pd is changed they lack at editing exmple like focus on a person laughing so hard when another person make a joke, and they should put a little bit more funniest moment behind the scene to make this show looks more real - this is not like old once which is the old running man is more funny and happy to watch
