Kim Yoo-jung to be Park Bo-gum’s leading lady in Moonlight Drawn By Clouds

We finally have a heroine for Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, the youthful fusion sageuk starring Park Bo-gum (Answer Me 1988) that went through so many rounds of casting rumors that it was impossible to tell who got real offers and who didn’t. Names like Kim Ji-won (Descended From the Sun), Kim Go-eun (Cheese in the Trap), and Seolhyun (Orange Marmalade) were in the mix, but in the end it was Kim Yoo-jung (Angry Mom) who landed the role.

It’s funny because the press is calling it Kim Yoo-jung’s first leading role, but have we all forgotten Secret Door and the debacle where they cast too young for the character and then replaced her mid-drama, thinking no one would notice? I just hope this time they intend to have high-school-age characters, because Park Bo-gum can certainly play younger and I’d feel better about that overall.

I like Kim Yoo-jung and I think image-wise they fit well together (it helps that he’s a baby in my mind), though in all honesty I was hoping for someone like Kim Ji-won to really sell the romance. With a heroine as young as Kim Yoo-jung (17), I feel like I have to readjust my expectations for sweet, innocent first love.

The Joseon-era palace romance will star Kim Yoo-jung as a young woman who crossdresses to give out love advice. In order to survive, she acts like she knows everything and has everything, and is a pro at acting like a man. She ends up becoming a eunuch in the palace, where she befriends the crown prince (Park Bo-gum) and his rival (which Yook Sung-jae is up to play), and friendship turns to love.

The drama comes from the team behind Who Are You—School 2015, and with Kim Yoo-jung signing on, it’s starting to feel like a sageuk School 2016. Maybe it’s best to think of it that way, because I love high school stories when they’re done well, and that’ll set my expectations up properly.

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds will be a Monday-Tuesday drama premiering in August on KBS.

Omg, a female lead!

On one hand, I love KYJ. I think she's a great acaress and she does well in sageuk.

On the other hand, I love her as the child actress in the dramas that I liked her in.

It's not her age that I'm bothered by... it's that she seems to act younger for a lot of stuff. She does have a lot of potential, though, so I hope this drama is a good one for her. It's discomfitting how she got pulled from the last one because of proximity.

ummmm... i'm not sure how my last sentence ended up like that. i meant to say "it's discomfitting how she got pulled from the last one because she supposedly couldn't match up on the romance."

i really do think she's great for the "young love" aspect, where they start out naive and friendly. it seems like acting out a crush and a deeper friendship... but i'm not sure about KYJ pulling off a romance beyond the initial.

Y'ALL talking about Kim Yoojung too young, Park Bogum good at kissing, blahblah

This is a sageuk, about teens. Park Bogum's character is supposed to be 19 y.o. Don't expect some steamy scenes like it's erotic sageuk movie.

Now, can anyone give me sageuk drama title which has erotic kissing in it?
For as long as I watch sageuk dramas the kind of kisses I stumbled upon only revolves around staying still or only a peck.

IKR!
well, talking about saeguk with steamy scenes, does frozen flower count? it's not a drama though lol. maybe they want something like that? then watch a movie instead of a drama. there are many saeguk movies like that one.

Frozen Flower is wonderfully shocking. It has actual sex scenes and many of them. I advise against it if you just want something sweet and steamy in your sageuk. But if you do watch Frozen Flower, repair your eyes by watching My Love Eundong!

well I've watched Frozen Flower and it is certainly a MOVIE, not a TV drama. What I'd like to point out is that I've never seen steamy scenes in sageuk tv drama so people should not worry about Bogum's kissing expertise and the likes go to waste because the opportunity to use it is already close to none. LOL.

PBG said he wanted to do a youth drama so may be thats why he chose it. Well I dont think age difference or lack of excessive romance is big deal as long as plot is solid and good and cute scenes and chemistry is there. He can challenge more mature roles with adult actresses in future as he is only 23 right now. Wishing him well for his career ahead~

No matter how much I like the cast or possible story of a drama or movie I automatically PASS on any show that casts minors with grown adults with actual love lines! No matter if they have physical contact or not. If it's a crush that's fine but an actual love line/ love interest is something I'd never support. There was this one drama that had an adult female kissing an underaged male and I couldn't even bring myself to look at it! Blech!!! I don't care if they are awesome actors they are still underage minors and shouldn't be paired up with legal adults. It's like the industry is approving of pedofiles or it makes it seem that sometimes it's ok when it is NEVER ok. It's awful and I can't watch it.

My feelings as well.

I've read all the comments/arguments about why it isn't such a bad idea. But Gross! The Girl is still Underage despite everything.

Why the hurry to grow up? Why cast underage actresses with grown ass men?!

Ewww.

I think this is a lovely pairing! Both Bo-Gun and Yoo-jung have an adorable innocence and sweetness. She feels very mature to me and he feels often like he's only 17 or 18. There is great potential for a stunning first-love chemistry with all the aching and longing and mooning about that goes with it. I will watch anything with Park Bo-gum in it and now I'm super excited to see the drama and this OTP.

This is similar to Suzy and KSH's pairing in dream high. Both Taec and KSH had kisses with her and she had chemistry with both. It worked fine.
KYJ is super talented and she's grown up on the sets of Saeguk's.

I like KYJ and I'm happy with this pairing. I'm just excited to see Bogummy in a sageuk and KYJ has always been amazing in this genre. ^^ Will definitely be watching this series!!

IDK what to smh at more. At the fact that some of you try to compare this situation to other big age difference love lines overlooking the fact that in those cases both of them were adults or at the fact that some of you even say these things are very ok in real life. It's one thing to like this stuff, but for the love of god, don't defend it, you'll just end up looking like a pervert who fantasizes about relationships between minors and adults.

Congrats to Kim Yoo-jung! I never saw Secret Door so I can't comment on that, but she is an excellent actress in the other shows I've seen her in.

Some people actually already knew she was cast?! I read somewhere that there were already rumors of her meeting with the producers and directors (albeit not translated to i-fans) and even her own stylist became a YJ-BG shipper lol. I guess only i-fans are surprised.

I'm okay with YJ, i know she can act well in sageuk. I just wonder how close they'll stick to the original web novel. True most of times they only keep the basic plot and make changes along the way. here just hope they wouldn't change/edit out too much because of YJ age, it'd be a pity. But again i think the PD/writer must have thought about it before casting her so guess there's no need to worry? I wish the best for Bogum first drama as lead, just dislike how it's now viewed as a 'teenage' drama, hopefully they'll prove us wrong!

On side note, aww man, they flirted me with the idea of Bogum and Jiwon, i just feel they'd have sizzling chemistry on screen. Maybe someday i'll be able to see it who knows x) now now i'm back to wait for Jiwon next drama ^^

Seeing all these comments about the age thing (which, I personally don't have a problem with) makes me wonder if people would have been as concerned if they had casted Kim So Hyun instead... she's only 3 months older than KYJ, but has a more mature vibe and is more versatile.

I actually really want KSH to be paired up with PBG in a drama (maybe in a couple of years' time, as I think they'd be great in something more serious/intense).

I personally think that the reactions would be the same if not more (the issue being that they are minors).

Honestly I don't understand why this series can't be good unless there's kissing between the two leads. It is possible for the main leads to be romantic and have tons of chemistry without sharing a kiss. I honestly loved KYJ and YGJ in The Moon That Embraces the Sun. They didn't kiss or even hugged and their romance was only through letters. In fact they had more chemistry than the two leads. Anyways both PBG and KYJ are capable actors. YJ is a veteran seaguk actress and I'm sure she'll surprise everyone. I can't wait as I've been waiting for YJ to be back on Kdrama land. The age gap isn't even that big. I feel like some can't see YJ outside her role in TMTETS. People still see her as that young girl.

I don't think that the age gap between Bo-gum and Yoo-jung is a big issue. I totally agree with @javabeans when she said that Bo-gum still feels like a baby in my mind. Bo-gum and I are the same age but I feel like he's so much younger. I don't like Yoo-jung that much but she sure can act so I hope that their drama will be a success!

Fighting, Bo-gummie! <3

I was actually hoping for Kim Go Eun but having Kim YooJung? I couldn't ask for more. i just hope SungJae signs up too. T_T

Anyway, I'm currently watching 4 dramas but I'm looking for a drama that is complete already so I could marathon it. Any recommendation guys? Maybe something as good as my beloved Signal and I Remember You?

I am sure he didn't expect that they will cast a very young actress maybe he's pissed right now even though KYJ is more experience than him in the filed and a good actress also but it's became a teen drama I doubt he liked the casting

What the...So they were considering casting between THREE actresses of appropriate age and two of them of tremendous talent, but they ended up securing an underage one. I wanna say I'm surprised, but frankly I'm not, just quite disappointing... again.

Y'all forgetting that Kim saeron and woohyun did kissing scenes in high school love on? He's a 91 liner and she's 00!! She was 14 then?! So I'm sure these 2 will get some kissing scenes! Plus if its slated to go on air around August she will turn 18 (Korean age) during the last few episodes (22nd September) so she won't be a minor anymore! Although I'm not too sure how the Korean age works lol
