Ms. Temper has Nam Jung-ki on a short leash
by girlfriday
The posters and teasers for JTBC’s Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki are full of punny swears, and feature leads Lee Yo-won (Empire of Gold) and Yoon Sang-hyun (Gap-dong) constantly fighting. Or maybe she’s just always beating him up. The new opposites-attract romantic comedy is about a short-tempered boss without an ounce of patience and her employee who’s the world’s most patient man. Match made in heaven? Or hell?
The new workplace comedy comes from a new writer and PD Lee Hyung-min (Orange Marmalade, Bad Guy, I’m Sorry, I Love You), and stars Lee Yo-won as Ok Da-jung, the head of marketing for a cosmetics company. She’s beautiful and hugely successful, but she’s known at work as Wook [temper] Da-jung, because of her short fuse. She’s been divorced three times because she has zero patience, and meets her match in the endlessly patient Nam Jung-ki (Yoon Sang-hyun).
He’s a manager who works under her, and has the philosophy that patience and endurance can overcome anything. That’s probably a philosophy he adopted before meeting the heroine. He’s the type of person who apologizes even when others wrong him, and is so sensitive and timid that it’s frustrating to the people around him. When Lee Yo-won becomes his new boss, his work life will become exponentially difficult.
The posters feature a punny tagline, leaving Xs to let us infer the cursing: “2016, Year of the Monkey [byung shin nyun]. If you’re patient three times, you’re a moron [byung shin].” The second poster also adds that being nice just makes you a fool.
The latest teaser runs through Nam Jung-ki’s survival techniques: giving gifts, washing her car, apologizing no matter what, and offering up his whole body. Cue: awkward strip scene. I don’t know what prompts that, but Lee Yo-won pelts him with any object within reach and calls him a crazy bastard. My favorite part is the outtake where they both crack up afterwards. The teasers look flashy and caustically funny, so hopefully the drama follows suit.
Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki follows Madam Antoine on Fridays and Saturdays beginning March 18.

jTBC should put their will of making dramas in hiatus. After D-Day, I can say their dramas are totally crap. It's make sense, they lost huge amount of money for D-Day.

Really???? I actually liked D-Day!
But yeah, I'm not really feeling this one. What is so hilarious about a jerk boss?

The only jTBC drama I've ever watched was Padam Padam. That was one of my favourite drama (although the fact that it came from a star writer must be why it was solid though). Let's just hope that this drama is cute because I am behind this pairing, LYW and YSH looks cute together.

Padam Padam was a straight up masterpiece. I recently rewatched it and it stands the test of time. Mostly I just marvel at how excellent Jung Woo Sung is at his craft. But, yes, it does seem that jtbc isn't pushing for greatness like tvn is. At one point, they seemed neck and neck for quality content. Idk anymore.

They didn't come out with a lot of dramas, but some are really memorable. Well.. JTBC is the one that introduced me to Jung Kyung-ho and his awesome Paksa Adeul ;)
And I'm still putting Secret Love Affair in my to watch list since I heard lots of praises about it.

I think they've earned a bit of patience and good will with that kind of list--that's pretty much all of the best Kdramas for the last 5 years lol. Don't forget Yoo-na's Street either :)

Umm, women being abusive assholes is not funny. Violence towards others is not funny.

I agree 100%.
It's not funny even if the bully is a woman. And this drama should find a better premise than the last rom-com they made - Madam Antoine. Because that one fizzled fast.

I dunno, it honestly just looks like she is an abusive bully. Are we supposed to find it funny because she is a woman? Is this supposed to make her seem strong?

Interesting teasers...I wouldn't say I'm on board bc I'm not a huge fan of either actors however I'd just like to say that this whole "abusive boss, submissive employee" has been done many times before, except the boss is always a charming chaebol male (which obviously some deep makjang backstory) and our female is a plucky happy-go-lucky candy character ...and admittedly most of us have probably watched these quite easily...so I don't get what the hoopla is about the role being reserved.

The comparison would have been apt if the male chaebol jerks were in the habit of beating up the Candys... regardless, glamorization of abuse towards either gender for comic purposes shouldn't really be supported imho. There are far more interesting and realistic relationship dynamics that could be explored that don't involve dehumanization of either party.

I must be in a haze these days but I'm so blown right now that Madame Antoine is airing in JTCB instead of tvN. Lol, SO random but I just realized... Wow
Anyway, this drama went under the radar. I haven't heard of it till now and it looks potentially funny. Except I think I'd hate both leads. One who's overly aggressive and one who's overly tame? Umm, maybe it's the type where you just lock off your brain in a cabinet and enjoy?

I hope the comic violence isn't a recurring theme. But lol, it looks like the throwing of things in the hotel room scene in the teaser might be justified. Like dude, why are you taking off your clothes haha.
Both characters might be infuriating but maybe they'll balance each other out? I kind of like seeing Lee Yo-Won playing unapologetically aggressive. I feel like all her characters of late are shrinking and melancholy. So a bit of a switch-up.

I find it a bit strange that she has divorced 3 times, considering she doesn't hide her temper, so I would assume that anyone marrying her knew what they were going into.

I enjoy the typography in the title, where "wook-ssi" (ms temper) is big and angry-looking and nam jung-ki is smaller in the corner, hee. And I always like puns so.
I hope this drama is funny, and not shrill or insensitive. Everything i'm watching rn is bad for my easily-frightened/distressed heart... I need something funny and easy to watch.

JTBC's dramas are offbeat but do they strike a chord with the masses? I like that another station is putting out dramas other than the big 3. It keeps everyone on their toes. Hopefully this one won't be another lukewarm affair.
YSH looks like he put on weight for this show to look like a frumpy harmless office worker.
I'm sure at this point, we all hope it will be better than Madame Antoine, no? That show makes some good points but the characters are not relatable and doesn't garner any sympathy. Pity because I really like HYS who has improved a lot from her blank stare days. Hope she gets better roles next time.

Umm...was this considered abuse? And the bit where he strip off his pant, was this a sexual harassment?
I wonder why most people didn't find this disturbing, I know this is just a drama and maybe it's cultural thing but a lot of korean dramas love glorifying abuse like that ji sung drama where he was beat up by his father and his father assistant busy covering up the cctv. I mean, change the music background to a sad music and the scene won't look funny at all lol.

I've never seen a JTBC drama, should I be worried?
Lee Yo Won is one of my favorite actress, I worry that she won't be making many dramas as a female lead anymore... She's 35 already + JTBC dramas don't get much views. :(
