Kim Seo-hyung in final negotiations to join The Good Wife

Casting continues to impress on tvN’s The Good Wife remake, which is now in final negotiations to cast Kim Seo-hyung, making for a robust lineup — not that I’d expect any less of the project that finally lured Jeon Do-yeon back to the small screen.

Jeon (Shameless, Secret Sunshine) was the first to confirm as the lead character of a woman who returns to the workforce following her husband’s fall from grace when he’s caught up in a political scandal. Yoo Ji-tae (Healer) plays the disgraced husband who goes to prison, with Yoon Kye-sang (Full Sun) in the mix to play the heroine’s law firm colleague and love interest.

You may know Kim Seo-hyung for playing fierce, competent, often badass secondary roles; at least, that’s how I always think of her. Her drama credits include political drama Assembly, sageuk Empress Ki, satirical History of a Salaryman, and quintessential makjang Wife’s Temptation. The character she’s up to play is friends with Yoon Kye-sang’s character and his co-CEO at the law firm, which is where our heroine will end up when she decides to return to practice after 13 years away from her career.

The description sounds more along the lines of the Christine Baranski character, who initially harbors doubt over the heroine’s return to law and later comes around to provide support and advice. Although, if we’re talking strong female solidarity I’m wondering if we’ll be getting an Archie Panjabi character too, since their solid friendship became a highlight of the show (well, at least before the rift broke them apart). Maybe they can give Kim Seo-hyung elements of both characters?

The Good Wife will air in June.

JB, the title too should be Kim Seo Hyung right?

Anyway the casting keeps drawing great actors, the casting director and tvN are on the roll. Hope this will turn out good.
And no piano or pianist in the sight, right? :D

I remember her as the empress dowager in Empress Ki, byt had no idea she also played the third party in Wife's Temptation!

Liked the classy and elegant vibe she gave off in Empress Ki. ?

I really like her a lot. I was expecting her to join the Monster cast since she has been a regular with the writers but I'm glad to see her take this instead.

female solidarity - She was great (with Song Yoon-ah) in Assembly and that was my favorite part.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this remake. Because there aren't many strong and sensible female characters in Korean drama (even those played by Kim Seo-hyung and Song Yoon-ah in Assembly were occasionally silly and hysterical), I'd thought that they would chuck the Diane Lockhart character, maybe just merge it with the Will Gardner character since they are both partners at the law firm. So the casting of Kim is kinda good news.

But since Kim is younger than Christine Baranski and about the same age as Jeon Do-yeon, I guess we'll be losing the mentoring aspect of the relationship. Pity, because I really liked how Diane did not have to be Alicia's friend to be a good, reliable and totally objective boss and colleague to her. If they make the character all bitchy and competitive, I'm going to be very upset...

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. Agreed that woman-woman mentorship relationships are very hard to come by in dramaland (even more so than Hollywood/U.S. TV). The Good Wife translated to a Korean context is ripe with possibility.. but it could be screwed up just as easily! Fingers crossed as always (but a little tighter than usual).

I'm excited for this and the cast seems really good! I really hope we get a Kalinda character because the rift that happened on the show really did ruin her's and Alicia's character development I'd like to see how it would have gone if they'd stayed friends.
