God of Noodles changes title, courts Jo Jae-hyun, Han Ye-ri

Well I could’ve told you that God of Noodles is a silly title for a serious revenge drama. When I hear the name, I just keep picturing shouty Lee Seon-kyun in Pasta. The new KBS Wednesday-Thursday series now has a spiffy new title befitting its revengey tone — Time of the Beast — and is still courting Lee Je-hoon (Signal) to headline. There are no confirmations yet, but we have two more potential cast members in Jo Jae-hyun (Punch) and Han Ye-ri (Six Flying Dragons).

The new drama is based on a manhwa series by Park In-kwon, of Daemul, Yawang, and War of Money fame. It’s an underdog story of a man who becomes a master of making noodles in order to get revenge. I don’t know how becoming a noodle god is the way to best your enemy, but I’m sure there’s a logical reason in there somewhere.

Lee Je-hoon is up for the role of the hero, a young man who cultivates a keen sense of absolute taste while growing up with an amnesiac father who can’t walk and an herb-gathering mother who can’t speak. I’m sure some kind of tragedy befalls them, which will propel him into the world of noodle-making. There he’ll meet Jo Jae-hyun’s character, a noodle master himself with a deep knowledge of all things noodle. Is he gonna be Noodle Yoda?

It hasn’t been specified which role Han Ye-ri is up for, and meanwhile her Six Flying Dragons co-star Gong Seung-yeon is still considering “a leading role.” Yet another Dragons alum (the casting director must be a fan), Yoon Kyun-sang, was reported as having received an offer for Time of the Beast as well, but his reps quickly denied that he was considering it.

So far I like the direction of the casting — solid actors with onscreen charisma like Lee Je-hoon and Jo Jae-hyun, along with a rising film actress like Han Ye-ri. I can see it being a good balance if they all sign on, though right now nothing seems very firm.

Time of the Beast follows Descended From the Sun in April.

I'm still laughing at the plot. But if Lee Je Hoon is doing this I'm not laughing anymore.

Lee Je-hoon has been very fortunate to be considered and cast in dramas with amazing (movie) actors.
Secret Door may have been a failure due to the writing but he got to work with the amazing Han Suk‑kyu again. It's too bad that no amount of talents would save it.
Signal gave him the fantastic Jo Jin-Woong and Kim Hye-Soo.

I hope he'll take this role. Han Ye-ri would be his best female lead to date. She has so much to bring to the table, chemistry, action ...you name it. Acting opposite a strong talented actor like Jo Jae-hyun is another great opportunity.

Park In-kwon manwhas have been successful so far with all it's drama adaptations so hopefully this will continue.

Clicked on the article, scrolled down to leave a comment and then saw that you already said everything way better than I could lol. Jo Jae-hyun and Han Ye-ri are amazing. And Han Seok-kyu <3 I just hope Secret Door doesn't scare him away from dramas for good.

It is good to see movie actors on small screen.. The castings seems solid. Just hope the plot is great too, even best actors cannot save the drama if the plot is mess.

Out of topic, i hope we can see Lee Je Hoon and Kim Go Eun in one drama / movie later on. I prefer drama, because KGE's first drama went downhill and it is really unfortunate for a talent like her.

That would be such an amazing cast. I loved Jo Jae-hyun in Punch. I still get emotional when I think about that show. And Lee Je-hoon, I will always love to bits. Now the waiting game to see if both take it.

Oh and I loved Han Ye-ri on 6FD. I kinda had a mini crush on her character.

They have such great chemistry it's too bad that the writers are not taking advantage of it. Ye-ri is fantastic and Yoon has grown a lot in the show.
They are basically my favorite characters in SFD.

"The casting director must be a fan"
May be..
Either he is Jung Do Jeon in previous life or he is a hardcore fan of Jung Do Jeon life story.
Jo Jae hyun may not be included in SFD, but he is a lead actor of Jung Do Jeon.

Whenever I see the word 'Noodle' in this post, I end up laughing. The plot is all sorts of bizarre but if the production manages to get so many amazing actors under one project, then I'm inclined to think the script must be good.

Yeah, I'll actually kinda miss the contrast of that silly title and very serious plot.
On another note - yet another amnesiac?!

He became Noodle Yoda because he once had a protege who was fond of jajangmyun. But the protege died and Jo Jae-hyun was left with nothing but Drama Scars™ and an obsession with noodles.

Now another kid wants to learn from him about the secrets of noodle-making. Will he ever forget the past and make friends again?

Nah. The plot already sounds like King of Baking Kim Tak Goo, now if they change even the same similar to that, it will be ridiculous and funny lmao
