Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 21-27, 2016

Looks like Descended From the Sun’s record breaking news isn’t going to stop anytime soon—the insanely popular show broke the highly coveted 30% mark this week, and only proceeded to go up from there. Where is the ceiling, I wonder? Does one even exist?

It’s all good news from a tv viewer’s perspective, of course—we thought the golden age of drama ratings might’ve been over, what with the advent of online streaming and all. Those kinds of viewer counts don’t end up in the general ratings aggregate, so it’s surprising to see this kind of turnout for a primetime weekly show. And that’s just counting those who tuned in for its live broadcast.

Unfortunately, though Six Flying Dragons fought the good fight and stayed consistently in the high teens, it wasn’t able to break the 20% mark before its completion. I’m sure the show’s producers can rest easily with their solid performance through its fifty-episode run, however, and actor Yoo Ah-in can leave for his army service at the highest of career highs.

congrats for DoTS, so there's a hope for higher rating, it just hard like every thing in life.

Marriage contract seems steady on 18%, still enjoy ep 7 very much.
I love this drama, I hope the rating can go higher.

It kinda feel sad when public drama and cable almost had the same rating, isn't this a right time to stabilize online rating?
I mean C-drama has those online view that make it incredible, I hope Kdrama can do the same,
or the re-run rating maybe . . .

Also, on a side note. What does the % even mean? Like 18% of Korea or 18% of people with a tv?

Hi Karen. The % means the percentage of people watching television at a particular moment tuning in the particular drama. So 30% for DFTS means 30% of the people watching television at that time are tuned into DFTS. This reply is from Javabeans before. Hope it helps! :)

Glad DOTS now reach 30%, finally kbs have something than can make them happy Lol.DOTS really slay wed-thurs Timeslot..too bad the other show Head to head in the same timeslot with DOTS cause i love CBM and GMB if just they in another timeslot-__-
And for memory,i love this show from directing.acting, story and CG is really great.Too bad the rating is really low compare to previous Tvn Show in the same time slot.

Talking about tvN, I'm agree. Their Mon-Tue and Fri-Sat shows experienced lower and decreased in ratings.

CITT > Pied Piper
Signal > Memory

But, not only compare to previous shows, also compare to their previous week(s) episodes. Idk, maybe it's just not k-viewers jam.

I suppose we cannot compare both of them - the genres are waaay too different. But how does Signal compare in to Pied Piper? If it's as seat-of-the-pants, I'm picking up the show too!

Signal is better than Pied Piper, emm I think it is because Signal is more emotional engaging than Pied Piper? But if this is your kind of genre, it is still good and worth to check it out and continue. I can't wait for PP ep 7! :) Glad viki subbing it.

+1 Im surprised too because PP and memory is great drama.
at first i think this 2 drama can surpass the rating from TVN previous drama but.....the rating is so Low
neverthless dont care much about rating because TVN still give us great drama right?xD

I've been steering clear of Tvn since the CITT debacle which is admittedly an illogical/emotional response; I mean they did bring us such gems as Liar Game (was that tvn?) and Signal, etc, etc.
But humans are emotional creatures and we tend to avoid things which left a bad taste, unfairly or not.

I am also wondering if I will like Pied Piper but will hold off on viewing (and possibly getting sucked into something that will go downhill) until the conclusion.

Indeed tVN is suffering from backlash after CITT and Answer Me (yes, yes, don't compare, the husband wasn't predetermined, etc. Still doesn't change that many Korean viewers were miffed, especially since they hinted that the husband went to college).

I can't believe the next episode of page turner is next saturday *sob* that's suicide KBS,anyway I love the drama so much and I'm curious about the ratings. Kim so hyun is playing a physically challenge for the first time,I'm impressed sohyunie and ji soo should always play this kind of character,he is adorable.

I was really impressed with Jisoo when he was laughing and crying in one scene. He really got me there. Here's hoping he gets a role similar to what Park Bo Gum and DO got for I Remember You.

Kim So Hyun, as expected, is great. Writer nim also delivers once again. Too bad Page Turner is just running for 3 eps.

It's funny you mention IRY, because Shin Jae-ha actually had a cameo there! He's such a chameleon, both he and Ji-soo did so well here. I was worried about Ji-soo playing yet another high school boy with a temper but this is nothing like Bok-dong or Seo Ha-joon, Cha-shik feels totally different.

And Kim So-hyun, such a firecracker - she's the best part of it. I love the way she nails Yoo-seul's anger, pride and brittleness, just so many layers at once. This girl needs to be lead in her own melo already, she is prime leading lady material and just one good drama will have her snatching the wigs off the assorted untalented/mediocre idols and walking product placements trying to call themselves actresses. Talent always speaks.

I don't think DoTS will break 40%? But maybe? It's already nearly 37% in Seoul, so it could happen. If the show were 20 episodes I'd say yes, but with only 16 I think it'll probably peak around 35-38%. If it goes up a lot this week then the sky's the limit.

Poor shows it's killing. At least they went up a bit...

Dots congrats but its way cheesy and bad English for me......

Pied piper is interesting not at signal or liar game level but its really good on its own level....

marriage contract is mix of usual tropes but it has its charm... The main OTP are really cute together and all the three(including kid of course) deserve happy ending so don't kill her off you hear me writer...

can't decide between CBA & GMB any suggestions..?...

Well, English isn't their first language though so...It's kind of like expecting non-Korean speakers to speak perfect, accentless Korean.

I don't think anyone expects perfect, accentless English from Korean actors.

But it's not unreasonable to expect that a 'foreign language' being spoken onscreen by a character who is supposedly used to the language, should at least be comprehensible to those who do speak it, whether that's English, Korean or any other language.

I'm not watching DotS, but I did watch Heirs and I thought Kim Ji-won and Park Shin-hye's English was perfectly fine there. But kdramas in general have a tendency to make actors speak weirdly in English, even when they are native English speakers .

OTT, speaking of Heirs, I miss Krystal there, and her English accent ;)

But SJK & SHK at least is trying to speak English too, even it is not flawless and feel forced. When I watched Love Me If You Dare, (C-drama), it is more terrible. How can a conversation id done with two different language and no translator also. sigh.. It was a major turn off to me.

Agree with ya. You pointed out two aspects I dislike from DotS: cheesy lines & English pronunciation.
Not only the main lead's, but even most of western supporting actors' English pronunciations sound so weird. And all the cheesy lines kinda annoyed me.

IMO.. overall, DotS is a good show. Not that extraordinary, but yeah.. it's good.
The things that captivated me the most are its directing and cinematography. Beautiful cinematography!

YFAS started around 15.6%, which was a very good start for any drama, and slowly gained popularity, especially with its interesting premise and big names. Ratings hit 20s during the second week and peaked at 28.1% for its finale. As for DotS, it also started around the same range 14.3% and hit its 20s on the second week. However, DotS hit 28.5% on just its third week (higher than YFAS' peak). At the moment, it's still continuing to rise so let's see where things go. It is good for the entertainment industry tho as it shows that people do tune in if something piques their interest.

SFD and DotS have turned all the other dramas into squids for me. I can't get into anything else because there's a huge SFD-shaped hole in my heart and I don't know if anything can take its place any time soon. I fell asleep halfway through episode 6 of Marriage Contract, was bored by Mrs Cop 2 even though I liked it at first, I'm 4 episodes behind on Come Back Ajhussi and I don't feel the need to catch up at all. I love DotS more than is healthy right now, I'm a huge fan of KES anyway. Her stories are always simple and manage to evoke the right kinds of emotions in me. Though her stories are not for everyone but I think she writes the best romances. I like that the comedy in her shows are witty not cheap like toilet humor and poking fun.

Sad to see Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Ki got lowest rating. Started on it on the long weekend and now am impatiently waiting or the next episodes. The story is zippy and the characters are pulling me in, hope they will have a coherent plot till the end. Agreed. I am loving Ms. Temper and Nam Jung Gi, sad about the ratings, because I think this drama is very underrated.

Unlike what people might think from the trailers, this drama is not fluffy, there's no romance (at least not in the first 4 episodes), and the female lead is not an evil charicature. She's intelligent, gutsy, and a leader. The underdog business storyline is good. The theme of standing your ground vs. giving ground is good. The supporting characters are all good. It is definitely like a more peppy version of Misaeng. Really like it so far.

And yes, also hoping Manager Ma gets his comeuppance here!

Ms. Temper is the best bit about the drama. Need more female characters like this in dramas!

I'm not quite feeling the other / supporting characters as much though – I feel they're overdone, or, rather, the balance isn't quite right. Like that everyone except Ms. Temper is a total idiot and wants to do zero work (but expect to be credited for the hard work they are doing).

Fortunately, this shouldn't last too long... Oscar-forever is already slightly changing his mindset by (at leas temporarily) not buying into "she must be stringing along two guys" gossip, and one of the office ladies seems to have been given a touch of normalcy once Oscar told her about his debt.

I hope Ms. Temper has a run-in with NJG's brother soon. I really, really want her to get him into her claws and make him work until he keels over. Of course, it's NJG that needs to cut the cord, but I just really want Ms. Temper to do a bit of whipping the guy into shape!

0

No those ratings are good for that channel. Madame Antoine was pulling in about 0.7% to 1.1%. MTNJG is clobbering it in comparison.

Required fields are marked *

Ms. Temper is doing fine. Its lowest rating for its pilot (1.088%) is still higher than Madame Antoine's PEAK (1.058%), haha. It also broke 2% by the third episode, which is really surprising for a JTBC drama (remember that it's directly competing against TVN's Friday-Saturday dramas).

I just love how JTBC puts all its effort in investing into original content like dramas and variety shows, while MBN, Channel A and TV Chosun are just focused on their current affairs show to save money. Maybe the government would consider giving a Free to air License to JTBC and shut down the other three jongpyeon channels? Man, they are just a waste of air time.

Kidding aside, I had never expected Miss Temper amd Nam Jung Gi to rate 1% because it directly competes with a tvN drama. Now, it even went up to 2%.

I have watched the first 3 episodes of it ang I got hooked right away. Lee Yo Won is fascinating. I can also relate to Yoon Sang Hyun's character for some reason. Looking forward to more episodes!

I am also happy for SFD that it ended with the highest ratings for its entire run. I will truly miss this show. It has shot straight to my top kdramas list, sitting pretty there with Misaeng and Signal lol.

Am I the only who doesn't get why DotS is getting such high ratings? I mean, I get that a star writer and cast have great influence, but it doesn't seem enough for this drama to be breaking records. I'm watching it and I find it enjoyable enough, but I'm certiainly not hooked. Honestly, I only even started watching because I'm a huge Onew fan (and also because of the hype). It's not that I think it's bad, but there is very little actually happening despite the grand setting. And the leads don't have particularly compelling chemistry. It's a bit baffling to me.

Wow the ratings are still going up for Five Kids. It's such a cute show. The leads are a divorced woman and a widowed man. They're not looking for love but love is looking for them. *cue harps*

Plus the other storylines are a riot. Sung Hoon's is particularly good. I'm just dying laughing as the big reveal in that loveline creeps closer to a reveal. This show's got it all. Flamboyant ex-loan sharks! Angry grandmothers! A noodle shop! First loves! Indy filmmakers! Adorable kids who are about to become step-siblings but just know each other as friends at school!
