Smiles and hugs for UEE and Lee Seo-jin’s Marriage Contract

You know, when this casting was first announced, I didn’t think I could see Lee Seo-jin and UEE as a couple, but the posters for their upcoming weekend melo Marriage Contract are encouraging. We won’t know until we see them actually acting together whether the pairing is credible, but for now he looks happy, and she looks sweet.

The drama tells the story of a man who only sees value in money and a woman “standing at the precipice of life,” who wind up in a contract marriage. He’s a successful businessman and restaurateur with a former life as a hit songwriter, and she’s a widowed single mother who receives a terminal diagnosis, which makes her seek out a guardian for her child.

Along the way, naturally, they fall in love: The posters bear the tagline “After stamping the papers, say you won’t leave me…” And while that sounds like something along tearjerker lines, the drama promises to be bright and cheerful (mixed with some heartrending elements, of course).

I’m a sucker for contract marriages—they’re almost an auto-watch for me (almost)—though the terminal sickness plot does give me some pause. But I’m curious to see how they’ll write their way out of that conflict, and might tune in just to see that; I could be wrong, but it doesn’t sound like this drama is going for the gloomy Thousand Day Promise angle. And I’ll take uplifting and heartwarming over angsty tears any day.

Marriage Contract premieres on March 5 on MBC, and will run for 16 episodes.

Grumpy cat looks fine for an ahjusshi. But well, Koreans -some of them- age well. And it's 16 ep? I'll read reviews first, I won't jump to it. No more following dramas *unless fave is in it lol*

Nice pics. kinda interesting but I have a lot on my plate as it is. and it pains me to see Uee so thin like she doesn't have any money to buy food, such a frail looking body but her face looks healthy, hmm, strange...

I agree she looks so skinny.
I remember a little while ago reading how netizens were commenting how she gained weight and was looking fat.
To me the pictures she looked average not fat.

But I think she took the comments to heart and now she looks worse than skinny.

Yes, I'm glad dramas have found their way back to 16 episodes. The 24, 36 episode glut of the past years, was too much and led to draggy/horrible endings.

I watched their MBC Section TV and find the chemistry for the poster shooting to be quite pleasant.

Even the mother - daughter tandem seems believable to me. I'm so going to watch anything to clear my head out of the mess CITTT has become.

Yes. I even watched DOTS.

I think Lee Seo Jin just use different method or women on dramas. Kim Hee Sun in Wonderful Life and UEE character sort of have same life situation. We know he will not marry someone like UEE character in real life because even his own mother is the real chaebol mom.

Anyway, I will watch this because I need LSJ dramas and I love contract marriage story.

I will see the review first. Seo Jin oppa is tempting but not enough to draw me yet. this kinda remind me on My Spring Days, I don't now why, not because of contract marriage thingy but maybe because the heroine has a terminal disease ? I am not really convincing with Uee's acting yet, but who knows with a good script and partner will give a positive result ??

On every article about her someone is bound to make a remark about her weight, but it seems to me she's always been thin.

She has terminal illness and seeking for a guardian for her child? That sounds really similar to Superdaddy Yeol...

I didnt expect it either, but I like their chemistry sorta. But Uee looked amazing with Sung Joon in HS's teasers only to look beyond bland in the actual drama. Hopefully this won't be the case here because I'm tempted to give it a go.

I know, right? I'm really hoping this has a more SoaW vibe than Superdaddy. But I love the contract marriage trope, so I'm definitely checking this out.

The poster are giving me melo feels, so I anticipate crying. Lots of crying.

But then again, that could just be Sungjoon. When has he ever had any chemistry with his leading ladies. Just look at his current show with Han Ye Seul, not to mention he said he hated kissing UEE in his press junket for High Society. The guys such a sour snout..

I have no idea why you're misinterpreting his joke but he never said he hated kissing Uee. He joked that he's tired of kissing her and lacks inspiration because right from the moment they met, they went right into it. This after the reporters asked how he felt about kissing her so many times in the teaser itself. Sometimes jokes should be taken as just that - a joke. I've actually seen the clip and he was quite obv teasing Uee.

As for chemistry, Sung Joon had loads of it with Jung So-min as well with Kim So-yeon. HS had him playing an extremely bland character so really, I think it was more crappy writing and direction.

He had great chemistry in I Need Romance 2. Chemistry takes two people so you can't blame one or the other if you do not feel chemistry in a couple.

Ugh, the writer of High Society killed that drama dead. It had so much potential but it ended up becoming just another chaebol loves candy story. What a waste of Uee and Sung Joon's fantastic chemistry. She didn't even develop her leads properly and was so focused on the second leads that she treated them like an afterthought. I will be eternally pissed at her for that because I was looking forward to that drama a lot.

I couldn't believe what became of it after that smokin' 1-min trailer. How could that chemistry have gone to the trash that badly? And I'll probably be trashed for this myself but gosh I absolutely hated the PHS and IJY love story because that was every rom-com ever. Yawn. I wanted the promised story of a Rich Girl and Poor Guy. What a shame.

Yes! HS's trailer was wonderful it gave me hope. What most upsetting was the too many scenes of older sister's bitterness. Uee's character's rivalry was with the second sister not the first one pfft

LSJ actually smiles a lot more than people think. He saves the grumpies for variety shows and smiles a lot behind the scenes in his dramas and during interviews.

Besides, JFC, Uee needs to star eating something or they have to tone down the ps A LOT, that ankle BONE. Jesus, she needs 10 bowls of meaty soup asap.

I'll wait for the reviews before jumping in...I'm still suffering from PTSD from Cheese in the Trap. UEE definitely looks thinner but could be because she has a terminal illness in the drama...maybe she lost a little weight for the role. Didn't watch Fools Love or whatever so not sure.

I know Uee so much younger than Seojin, but hey isn't it trending now? So yeah..its believable for me.
And its 16eps, super yay!

Its been long enough since a good melo (but not too angsty) drama playing in my tivo.
Anticipating, indeed!

Never in a million years would I think to pair up those two. It's quite surprising in a good way. Not too sure about the story though. The whole terminal illness so I need to find a guardian for my kid thing reminded me too much of "Super Daddy Yeol" which left a bad taste in my mouth.

I know exactly what you mean. They were so popular during and after Grandpas Over Flowers that most of Korea was shipping them. It was talked about it in talk shows, the news etc. If they were to pair up in a drama, the ratings would be high right out of the gate. Their chemistry is amazing.

Unbelievable this drama build the new brand of Uee and of course for Lee Seo Jin as well ...Uee did her best for her character in this drama as a single mother who desperately will do anything for her child, Eun Sung (after she was diagnosed for brain tumour)..I just want there will be not a sad ending..hopefully..and just enjoy the drama until the end... >_<

I don't know how but this drama has this magical pull on me. It's like a drug. I watched the first episode not expecting much and just riding on the LSJ train, but Uee brings such life to her character. This is my first time watching her act but I'm really impressed.

Even though this is definitely a melodrama (and I usually stay away from those), I give it 2 thumbs up!!!

I have low expectation with this series but heck am addicted to watch it, even in raw version.

Uee getting so much better. Her chemistry with on-screen daughter is really good. I can pictured her as a young single-mother and struggling to keep everything together.

Lee seojin oppa, he too getting better. I usually forgive his bland act in previous drama because his dimple-smile (who doesnt rite haha) but here...so legit acting.
He made you frustrated, angry on most 5eps but he redeem it on eps 6. Either its happy or sad or even open ending, i hope the cast and crew keep this good vibes until the last seconds.

For those who watching too, don't you feel want to root for Hyesoo and Miran? Its been a while since i watch sweet relationship between mother in law and daughter in law.

Enoughhh with evil mom juseyooo~
