Script read for youth drama Cinderella and the Four Knights

I’m sending all my good vibes to this show and willing it to please be good, because I can’t handle another bad drama for Jung Il-woo (Records of a Night Watchman). I’m hopeful though, because the original novella that youth romance Cinderella and the Four Knights is based on comes from the same writer who wrote the source material for Flower Boy Ramyun Shop. It’s a sliver of hope I’m hanging onto, because it would be nice to send Jung Il-woo off to army duty with a good drama from post-2011 to remember him by.

I’m also really looking forward to Park So-dam (Because It’s the First Time) in her first headlining role, as a young woman who takes on a strange job opportunity that involves her moving into a mansion and living with a chaebol grandpa’s three grandsons and one bodyguard. Jung Il-woo plays a rebellious young man who overnight went from a life in the bottom 1% to the top 1%, and the good news is that they’ve made the characters 20 and up instead of keeping them in their teens.

Ahn Jae-hyun (You’re All Surrounded) plays his eldest cousin, an arrogant playboy who’s used to getting whatever he wants in life. He’s a carefree smooth-talker who’s used to getting all of the love. Lee Jung-shin (Temptation) is the middle cousin, a sweet church-oppa type who’s a singer-songwriter and top star.

Choi Min (Riders: Catch Tomorrow) is the chairman’s secretary who also acts as a bodyguard to the heroine (is it to protect her from the three boys?) and becomes a Daddy Long Legs figure who looks out for her. Sohn Na-eun (Twenty Again) will play a character who uses Jung Il-woo’s crush on her to get closer to the guy she really likes, Ahn Jae-hyun. And Go Bo-gyul (Bubblegum) will be the heroine’s new step-sister, who’s got her sights set on marrying one of the chaebol grandsons.

Cinderella and the Four Knights plans to be a 16-episode drama that’s 100% pre-produced, and is still looking for a broadcaster and timeslot for later this year.

PSD is already 100x better than most of JIW's leading ladies so I have good hopes

Is it wise to begin shooting without a broadcaster?

The mention of Park So-dam has me way more excited than Jung Il-woo tbh, for her sake I hope this is better/less stupid than Jung Il-woo's acting projects since 2011.

Slim chance though, with that premise - it sounds like AtaDan but dumber.

Actually, Park So Dam and Kim Go Eun remind me of each other in that they aren't "conventionally pretty" but are very adorable and charming. And I only watched parts of Because It's The First Time and Cheese in the Trap.

Other sites have report this to be a web drama. Is that the case or will it air later this year? I'm a little confused. I am hoping it isn't a web drama. My experience with them hasn't been very good. I found the majority of them boring and sub par with a few notable exceptions.

Park So Dam is so cute! I wish she grew out her hair for this drama, but oh well. There's always a next time, because I think she's gonna go a very long way.

Good luck to her and Jung Il Woo, I hope the drama is good.

Actually, IMO, Jung Il-woo hasn't had a good drama since Iljimae and I don't even remember how many eons ago that was. Everything else he's done since has either not been stupid as beings, not to my liking, or his character was pure crap and he got overshadowed.

This one sounds just as un-promising as his previous ones tbh. It feels like another version of Nightwatchman-non-Sageuk. I'm also not sure how Ahn Jae-hyun's going to act out a charming-arrogant playboy when he has basically one or possibly half an expression. It's hardly as easy as it sounds and the guy should just stick to smaller roles instead of 2nd/1st leads. He was SO adorable as Yoon-jae but has been godawful since.

I actually liked Jung Il-woo's character's in METS and 49 Days (although he broke my heart in both!) Everything else he was in, I couldn't get past the first couple of episodes. But LOL, totally agree with the Ahn Jae-hyun comment:-)

He played this kind of character in Fashion King (the movie with Joo Woon, not the kdrama) and lets just say, thank goodness he is pretty otherwise I really dont know how he is getting all these projects.

Dont watch the movie btw, even JW cant save it.

Please let park so dam wear extensions ! Her current hairstyle doesn't inspire me ! She would look good with ear or shoulder length hair ! I just hope the drama has enough comedy so we can bear the arrogant-chaebol male leads

Yay!! There's my Il Woo practicing his knightly lines ~ I'm a fan always for his saucy delivery, and this has a somewhat connection to FBRS - all the better. But, then (sniff) off to the military? Here's a resounding, all-around "fighting!"

The story material has the potential to either be really really really great or really really really bad.

I hope it's good because I think Jung Il Woo deserves more recognition and to be honest I like him better than his BFF Lee Min Ho.

Won't anyone comment on how ridiculous the storyline sounds? Another chaebol drama with flower boys and a poor nice girl!! Jesus are we back to 2006??

The storyline sounds stupid and and has "I-really-am-doing-this-drama-cause-I-want-a-textbook-hallyu-hit-on-my-resume" all over it with the poor girl being chased by three handsome chaebols.

But it's PSD and JIW, so DB users will never call out their faves for picking potential trash projects to advance their careers.

Of course, it could totally be new and innovative. Anyway, I hope PSD uses this as a good stepping stone for other high profile projects and gets the gigs that she should be getting instead of these terrible idols.

He actually is getting called out for poor project choices, if you look at this post and the one before it.

PSD, on the other hand, I cut her some slack because she's a newbie and feels the need to hustle for jobs....but she has critical acclaim off a major Chungmuro hit, she doesn't need to do some dumb web drama with a washed-up flower boy far less talented than her.

I kind of hope is not another cheesy plot line but considering the title...
But I am willing to watch, after all, we all need that fluffy drama in our lives.

I thought Ahn Jae-Hyun as Jung Il-woo's hyung was weird, but i looked it up and their the same age. Huh. For some reason AJH reads as a lot younger to me.

I love Jung Il-Woo! He is so much fun to watch.

Records of a Night Watchman wasn't a very good show but it was weirdly entertaining. It had some bad acting, lots of cheesiness, not very good graphics, and a crazy story, but for some weird reason I couldn't stop watching it. I wouldn't ever suggest it to anyone but to me it had its charm.

Jung Il-woo is not one of the best looking actors around but his acting is not bad. He did a pretty decent job in the web-drama High End Crush considering that his leading lady was erm, lacking in the acting department. His arrogant, over the top genius hitmaker temperamental megalomaniac character was well acted. the problem is that he is rather youthful looking and lacks the maturity to headline a drama. but I guess he just needs another hit role to get him back in the spotlight. fighting, oppa !

I love his 'Record of the Night Watchman' and actually captivates me from start to finish. I also love 'The Return of Iljimae. Although Golden Rainbow has rated so well in the domestic audience and it was good but it is not my type of drama. As second leads, he can steal your attention in Moon Embraces the Sun, My Fair Lady or Take Care of the Young Lady or 49 Days all of which did so well in the rating.

Plus he has such a pretty face even prettier than a girl yet looks masculine at the same time. He is such a pleasure to watch.

Goodluck to his new drama. Definitely looking forward for it.
