One More Happy Ending: Episode 9

It’s about time for Mi-mo to face reality, and learn that true romance may not be all fireworks and big dramatic gestures. Real love is in the details, in the small moments, and can be so quiet that you don’t even notice it’s there. It’s not something you have to work for, but true love just is, and may be right under your nose if you just take a moment to slow down and look for it.

EPISODE 9 RECAP

Soo-hyuk walks the doctor out after he pronounces Mi-mo to be just sleeping, and the doctor gives Soo-hyuk some sage advice — stay single. HAHAHAwhat? He claims that being able to drink beer and fall asleep on the sofa, without being nagged, is worth living alone.

Soo-hyuk watches the snow, thinking of that old adage that if you confess your love on a snowy day, you’ll get your wish. He remembers a day when they were children, and Mi-mo had drawn a snowman while Soo-hyuk had drawn stars. They’d gone home late that night, Soo-hyuk complaining that Mi-mo’s goldfish memory caused play rehearsal to run late.

Annoyed, Mi-mo tries to walk home alone, but Soo-hyuk pulls her pigtails and insists on walking her. They notice the brilliant stars, and Soo-hyuk shows Mi-mo his drawing, and tells her that snow is the stars crying from happiness.

Back in the present, inspired by the snow, Soo-hyuk makes his final heartfelt confession to (what he thinks is) a sleeping Mi-mo. As tears track down his face, he tells her that the perfect woman he described in her office, was actually her. He leaves the room and Mi-mo opens her eyes, having been awake and listening to every single word.

Soo-hyuk takes his time capsule box outside, remembering when he took his entire piggy bank to the store and played that game for hours, until he won enough tokens to buy the jewelry box that Mi-mo wanted. And awww, he also has the huge fake ring he bought on the night they got not-married, which he’s salvaged from her apartment. He puts the ring away in the box, along with his feelings.

Mi-mo tries to process what she heard Soo-hyuk say, while back in town, Hae-joon thinks about the two of them stranded together in their hometown. Finally he jumps in his car and heads out in the snow to find Mi-mo.

Mi-mo pretends to still be asleep when Soo-hyuk returns, and he sweetly checks her for a fever, noticing a small cut on her forehead. He applies some medicine and a bandage, and covers her with his blanket. He lies down and watches her, unaware that she’s wide awake. How do you not love this man??

As he falls asleep, Soo-hyuk fitfully tosses and turns with only his jacket for a blanket. His fidgeting causes him to unknowingly kick the box carrying the jewelry box and ring under a piece of furniture.

Mi-mo is shy around Soo-hyuk in the morning, and on their way out the teacher invites them back to see this year’s play, which just happens to be “Romeo and Juliet” again. The teacher says that they created an alternate ending where Romeo and Juliet don’t die of poisoning, hoping to entice them to come back.

Hae-joon arrives just then and the three of them go to breakfast, where Hae-joon is cranky and snappish. He’s annoyed when Soo-hyuk answers questions about Mi-mo as if he knows her better (though it’s totally innocent on Soo-hyuk’s part), and goes overboard asking Mi-mo personal questions. Soo-hyuk accidentally answers again, and Hae-joon finally snaps that he wasn’t asking him.

Hae-joon asks what Soo-hyuk put in the time capsule, and he answers with a vague, “Something not for adults to see.” Later Hae-joon drives Mi-mo home, leaving Soo-hyuk to go back alone.

Da-jung stands in front of a mirror in her hospital room, afraid to touch or look at her chest, and breaks down in tears. She goes back to her bed and eats in silence, but she can’t hide her tears from her roommate Hye-sun.

Hye-sun says that Da-jung is lucky not to be having chemotherapy, but Da-jung sobs that she doesn’t feel like a woman anymore. Hye-sun makes her smile by joking that she can just buy new, bigger breasts later, but tells her that she’s still a woman even without breasts.

On Yeon-soo’s advice, Geun-hak comes to the hospital to observe women in the cancer ward, to see what they’re going through. He witnesses Da-jung and Hye-sun’s conversation through their open door, barely managing to hold it together himself.

The snow inspires Dong-mi as well, and she composes overwrought poetry in her head about the no-good man who done her wrong. At least he paid her back the money she gave him for so-called “child support.”

Hae-joon is ready to talk when they get to Mi-mo’s place, and he says that trust is something that works both ways. He mentions that he’s seen her several times now with Soo-hyuk, and Mi-mo has nothing to say in return. He asks her, if she knows he doesn’t like seeing them together, why does she keep spending time with him?

Mi-mo is confused by this, since Soo-hyuk is her old schoolmate and Hae-joon’s best friend. She asks Hae-joon to just tell her straight what he wants, but Hae-joon thinks she should understand without his explanation. If she doesn’t know without his telling her, then he’s scared to love her for fear of getting hurt. Mi-mo asks if that means he doesn’t love her yet, and his silence is all the answer she needs.

She counters that she doesn’t love halfway, even if she knows she’ll get hurt. Hae-joon interrupts to ask if he’s the only one in her heart, and Mi-mo hesitates.

Soo-hyuk doesn’t realize that the jewelry box is missing until he gets home, but he’s distracted by a call from Hyun-gi telling him that Ah-ni quit the magazine. He runs into Hae-joon as he’s leaving Mi-mo’s place, and he starts to explain about this morning, but Hae-joon is in no mood to hear about Soo-hyuk’s feelings. All he cares about is how Mi-mo feels.

Mi-mo thinks about the ultimatum Hae-joon issued before leaving, not to let anyone else in her heart but him. But she rubs the bandage on her forehead, unable to forget the things she heard Soo-hyuk say when he thought she was asleep.

We see in a flashback that Hae-joon did confess his feelings to Seon-soo all those years ago, which had upset her. She made it clear that she loved Soo-hyuk, and that poor Hae-joon had misunderstood her caring behavior towards him. He’d been devastated, but had agreed not to tell Soo-hyuk about his feelings.

Soo-hyuk talks to Ah-ni about her quitting, and she admits that she’s really only stayed at this job because of him. In order to end her crush, she’s also leaving the job, to discover what it is she really wants to do. Before she goes, she dumps the story she wrote outing Mi-mo as the woman who made a scene at the hotel, into her computer’s recycle bin.

Min-woo presents Mi-mo with movie tickets to thank her for helping with his volunteering, and cheekily asks her to take his dad out with the second ticket. She honestly tells him that she can’t date his father, and Min-woo takes it like a man, admitting that he tends to jump ahead with things.

It turns out that, while Ah-ni did delete the story about Mi-mo, she forgot to delete the photos of Mi-mo confronting Seul-ah and her old boyfriend, and Soo-hyuk’s boss finds them on her work computer.

Da-jung notices Mi-mo’s morose expression, though Mi-mo pretends that everything is fine. They discuss a group event they have planned for their singles, and Mi-mo promises Da-jung that she’ll take care of everything, though she’s strangely resistant about having to attend it herself.

Mi-mo runs into Geun-hak on her way out of the hospital, and he tells her that Da-jung’s doctor has given him homework — to find out, on his own, what Da-jung’s needs are. He asks for Mi-mo’s help if he ever needs it, and she readily agrees.

Mi-mo’s hesitation to attend the singles event makes sense now, because we see that Soo-hyuk is there. He makes a big deal about how dashing he looks (and he’s right), adorably eager to meet some new people. And then he’s seated at a table of, well… let’s just say, they’re not the best prospects. One of the ladies leers at Soo-hyuk like she wants to devour him whole, and poor Soo-hyuk looks like he’s about to cry, hee.

Words cannot do justice to the hilarity with which Soo-hyuk’s afternoon goes down in flames, and by the end of the event he looks as if he’s lost the will to live. He escapes to the restroom, but hears a crash — a man is in the event hall, throwing a fit at Mi-mo and breaking things. It seems that his (ex?)girlfriend is one of Mi-mo’s clients, and this guy is upset that she wants to marry the man she was matched with.

Mi-mo admirably doesn’t even flinch when the man raises his hand as if to strike her, though to be fair, he’s even tinier than she is. She informs the man that she only introduces people, she can’t control what they decide to do after that. Mi-mo turns her back on him when he accuses her of hiring fake “singles” to make her business look good, and that’s when the jerk puts his hands on her.

He quickly finds his arm twisted painfully by Soo-hyuk, and I love that Soo-hyuk’s big threat is to write a news story about the guy, ha. But he looms over the man, and is quietly but sufficiently threatening to have the man backing down, which is pretty impressive (not to mention hot).

Later Mi-mo sits in her office thinking, and HA, she sees Soo-hyuk’s face on her real goldfish, calling to her: “Goldfish. I’m talking about you, Goldfish. You, you, YOU!!” Suddenly the fish changes faces to repeat itself in English, and this is awesome, it’s Conan O’Brien! That’s hysterical.

Poor Mi-mo is haunted by goldfish, as her assistant brings her bungeoppang, a fish-shaped pastry filled with red bean filling. She imagines Soo-hyuk offering her the pastry, and nervously tells her assistant to take it away.

Hae-joon is still being stalked by his underage admirer, who crows in triumph when Hae-joon smiles at her joke. She says that he should date someone who makes him smile, which makes Hae-joon think that he already knows someone who does that.

Soo-hyuk gets a call from his one blind date, who would like to try meeting up again. Ha, he puts the call on speaker so that Min-woo can listen, and both of them make OMG faces when she suggests meeting right now.

When he turns her down, her voice goes hard, and she says that people are saying that Brave Wedding pays him to go on dates. HAHA, rather than deny it, Soo-hyuk just tells her he’s expensive. But he backpedals hard when she threatens to expose Brave Wedding, and he agrees to go out with her.

He runs into Mi-mo on his way out, and she’s just standing there glaring lasers at his door. He thinks she’s angry that he accepted this date, but she slams into her apartment without saying a word. Poor Soo-hyuk is left to mutter at her closed door, “What should I do when I can’t find anyone better than you?” Awww.

Determined to forget Soo-hyuk, Mi-mo fills every frame she owns with photos of Hae-joon and puts them all over her apartment. But as soon as she lies down to sleep, she hears Soo-hyuk’s voice again, calling her Goldfish. She calls Hae-joon to steady her nerves, and discovers that he’s sick with a cold.

She goes to his place to cook his some porridge and take care of him. Hae-joon admits that he didn’t call her, because he wanted her to worry when he didn’t call, which Mi-mo thinks is cute (but just seems like more mind games to me). He hugs her, thanks her for taking care of him, and kisses her forehead to avoid making her sick too.

Mi-mo drops by again the next morning, but Hae-joon says he’s better after eating her porridge and has gone to work. He gives her his passcode so she can leave the food she brought, and she decides to do the dishes while she’s there. She’s taken aback when she sees that the porridge she made has gone completely uneaten, though Hae-joon just said that he ate it.

She walks to work in the snow, feeling unappreciated and pouting a little about the finger she cut while cooking for Hae-joon, which he didn’t even notice. She remembers being out with him recently and he hadn’t noticed her blistered heel then, even though she’d been limping and hissing in pain.

Mi-mo and Soo-hyuk find themselves waiting for the same elevator that evening, and Soo-hyuk immediately notices Mi-mo’s bandaged finger and that her feet seem sore. He just grumbles at her to wear comfortable shoes, but it makes Mi-mo that much sadder.

There’s a new kerfuffle regarding Seul-ah and Jung-hoon — he’s been catting around again, they got in a fight, and Seul-ah had a miscarriage. It means an all-nighter outside the hospital for Soo-hyuk and Hyun-gi, so they settle in for a long stakeout.

Dong-mi is still moaning to Ae-ran about her breakup, and Ae-ran says that she read that people only receive a certain amount of love in their life. She thinks they used up that love while they were in Angels, and now there’s none left. Dong-mi yells that nobody loved her back then, either. ~pfft~

Ae-ran reminds Dong-mi about her feelings for Dong-bae before their wedding, that he didn’t stir her blood with passion. But she admits that now, after the wedding and their fight, she’s feeling all stirred up. But it’s not anger — she finds him attractive again, and thinks she may want to go back to him.

Dong-mi is jealous that Ae-ran even has that option, so Ae-ran offers to surround Dong-mi with men. They go to a club to dance their woes away, but the men on the dance floor keep shoving Dong-mi away from them. Ae-ran promises to make the men notice Dong-mi, so she flirts the DJ into doing her a favor.

Next thing you know, Ae-ran is pole-dancing to an old song, which has the dancers groaning for it to stop. She beckons Dong-mi to come dance with her, but Dong-mi is so embarrassed that she tries to slink off the dance floor alone. But she’s jostled and loses her footing, and starts to fall to the ground… and is swept up by a seriously gorgeous young man. He takes her outside and buys medicine for her bumped forehead, and doctors her up sweetly.

The next morning the friends all hang out in Da-jung’s hospital room and tease Dong-mi, who has a date with the handsome guy. He also happens to be younger than her by six years, so she asks Ae-ran for advice on dating a younger man. Ae-ran assures her that the age difference isn’t that strange, since he’s in his late 20s.

While Soo-hyuk and Hyun-gi wait for sign of Seul-ah, Hyun-gi discovers that their boss has printed the story about Mi-mo causing a scene in front of Seul-ah and Jung-hoon. Soo-hyuk immediately calls Mi-mo to warn her, and they realize they’re at the same hospital.

The friends find out right about then that Seul-ah is at this same hospital, having had a miscarriage, and they see the story about Mi-mo as well. The paparazzi are even saying that Mi-mo’s outburst is the cause of Seul-ah’s miscarriage.

Ae-ran thinks Mi-mo should wait until night to leave the hospital, but she refuses to skulk around as if she did anything wrong. She starts to walk out the doors, but Soo-hyuk appears in time to yank her back.

He yells at her for being such a goldfish — even if she is innocent, there’s no sense inviting trouble. He offers to drive Mi-mo home but she refuses, saying that she’s not a weak little thing that needs protection.

Soo-hyuk overhears some of Seul-ah’s fans decide to go inside to find Mi-mo and take revenge. They find Mi-mo in the parking garage and rush her, but someone swoops in to protect her at just the last minute. It’s Soo-hyuk, and he lets them pelt his back with eggs and scream insults, while he holds Mi-mo tightly in his arms.

One fan even throws a rock, which hits Soo-hyuk in the face hard enough to draw blood. He barely even flinches, and just holds Mi-mo’s face to his chest to protect her.

COMMENTS

Okay, that’s just flat-out swoony, is what that is. I just love Soo-hyuk’s way of always being there when Mi-mo needs him, whether she knows it or not, even whether she thinks she wants it or not. He’s not doing it for recognition, or to win her over, or for any personal gain whatsoever. He just loves her, and he cares about her safety and well-being, so he’s there. It’s such an understated kind of love, it’s no wonder she didn’t notice his feelings before, especially being the Goldfish that she is. But if she’d only pay attention, she’d realize that Soo-hyuk brand of loyal, steadfast love is exactly what she needs.

Some things about Mi-mo became clearer to me in this episode, foremost her innocence about love and how it works. Early in the drama I accused her of being flighty and shallow, and now that I know more about her, I think I’ve done her a disservice. Knowing the character better now, I think that Mi-mo is really just someone who takes things at face value, until someone tells her different. Things are what they seem to be, and she isn’t the type of person to read into someone’s gestures or expressions — if they say something is so, she believes it’s so, until they tell her different. She’s just very naïve about relationships, and assumes that things are fine and dandy until it becomes glaringly obvious that they’re not. It’s how she missed that her boyfriend wasn’t as into her as she was into him, and how she could be so disappointed when Hae-joon admitted that he’s not (yet) in love with her. To Mi-mo, dating means love, and that’s just how it is. Until the guy says otherwise, it’s her assumption that he loves her. But it’s not stupidity — it’s just her innocence and optimism. It also explains how she could think that she loves Hae-joon when she really doesn’t know him that well… she feels something for him, therefore it’s love. Simple and clear. She’s not stupid or inexperienced, she’s just very simple-minded when it comes to relationships. And as she said herself, she doesn’t love halfway… she goes all-in even if it means getting hurt.

So it certainly explains how she could completely miss all the signs that Soo-hyuk is head over heels for her… he hasn’t said so, and in fact he’s said the exact opposite, so that’s what she believes is reality. She needed to hear him say that he cares about her before it finally sank in. Now she knows, in clear words from his own mouth, exactly how he feels, so there can be no misunderstanding on her part anymore.

That said, I’m thoroughly ready for Mi-mo to wake up and see Hae-joon for what he is. Or rather, what he isn’t. It’s hard to get a handle on what he’s really feeling, but the strongest emotions I’ve seen from him in regards to Mi-mo are jealousy, possession, and anger. He’s still manipulating her, even withholding contact and pretending to be sick, just to make her worry about him. He doesn’t notice when she’s hurt or sick herself, and he’s a doctor for pete’s sake! He even plays the “If you don’t know then I won’t tell you” game, which is just so infuriating. He’s the exact opposite of what Mi-mo needs, which is someone who will be clear and honest with her about his feelings. She’s never going to get that with Hae-joon.

And I don’t think Hae-joon genuinely cares for Mi-mo for who she is, not really, In fact, I would venture a guess that this has more to do with his feeling that he lost Seon-soo to Soo-hyuk all those years ago, and he’s bound and determined to get the girl this time. I do think his initial interest in her was genuine, though based more on the fact that she was his idol-crush when he was young than on who she is now. But now it just seems that for Hae-joon, this is all just one big contest between him and Soo-hyuk, with Mi-mo as the prize.

And then there’s Soo-hyuk, who’s so hyper-aware of Mi-mo it borders on the supernatural. Even just a little bandaged finger gets his attention, and he even notices when she’s got sore feet after a long day. He can’t help but notice every little thing about her, though I appreciate that he doesn’t smother her, or fuss over every little thing. Some things he notices even irritate him, and I imagine he’s mostly irritated that he cares at all. I think that if Mi-mo would only give him a chance, Soo-hyuk would take such good care of her, she would never have to wonder how he feels about her. He would make sure she knows exactly how much he loves her, every single day.

Right now, I'm not that into this drama. I loved the zaniness of the first 2 eps, and am disappointed that we don't get even a smidgeon of it anymore.

The long confession of love that started at the end of last ep and runs into this one simply does nothing for me. The flashback-heavy confession make it seem like it is coming from the 10 year old Soo Hyuk, while I'd much rather they fast fwd 24 years and let him tell her how meeting her again has made him feel. Afraid we weren't told that at all.

He cares for her so much and will do anything for her, it's becoming too obvious to overlook, even to a goldfish, how can she not love him back? But that's not the love story I was waiting for. I wanted her to love him w/o him Doing anything, so that Haejoon would know that Goldfish doesn't choose him becos of shortcomings inherent in himself (like being cold, uncaring and unappreciative), and can realise it to change his self-centred ways, rather than blaming Soo Hyuk yet again.

I don't have a problem with the way the drama chooses to "bring" the main leads together because it's really organic to me. Without SooHyuk's quiet concern and sacrifices, MiMo wouldn't have been able to realise that fast that HaeJoon's self-centeredness in their relationship doesn't match well with her, since, as Lollypip has written, she's terribly naive in the matters of the heart.

All I hope is that she breaks up with him but by telling him why he's not suitable for her rather than why she's choosing SooHyuk/ why SooHyuk is better (for her).

Re Mimo is naive...
I feel that Lollypip is being over generous.

If Mimo was 24 and experienced 3 relationships, I'd call her naive.
As she is 34, has had 11 failed relationships under her belt, and runs a dating agency to boot, I'd call her something else.

I'd call her dumb. But that's what one gets for running headlong into things and never reflecting. This fella is still too full of hope and life hasn't been able to touch her like it has others, regarding the matters of HER heart. (Being in the midst of it and seeing from the third person perspective can be very different.)

I can't say she's stupid because I don't know whether she can or cannot get the reason for her failures because she hasn't even tried getting it. She's not flighty because she's intentionally avoiding the warning signs but it's because she doesn't even recognise the warning signs until they flash bright red and are in her face.

So... MiMo... is MiMo.

I'd call her clueless and oblivious. But dumb is simpler and doesnt overthink the issue...

But she really is act first, think later type of girl and she also wears her heart on her sleeve. She is definitely too naive for a 34 yr old but I guess that's just her overzealous optimist. I do know some naive 30-something year olds IRL though...so it's possible...:)

I feel like the drama is overdramatizing some swoony scenes, tbh. We've had and will have more swoony scenes, with Hae-Joon being the big, sacrificing guy EVERY SINGLE TIME, and I think at this point they've been slightly overdone. This drama's done a great job being absolutely hilarious, heartwrenching, and insightful, so making Hae-Joon do so many big things one after another makes it suddenly seem a little fake.

Hae Joon's biggest fault is his inability to notice and truly love a person, but I think Lollypip is making him out to be slightly hateful, and that I don't think he is. In my opinion, he's just a guy with "that" type of personality, the slightly self-centered, wanting-attention attitude.

Lollypip also said that Hae Joon thinks unconsciously it's one big competition over the girl at this point, but I also don't agree with that. I think he's truly interested and I will always give him creds for noticing Mi-mo(as a fan and years later) and asking her out. and And lets face it, we're all a little self-centered at times, and if we like someone, it doesn't mean we're always 100% truthful to them(aka Hae-Joon's mind games with Mi-Mo).

However, I agree with Lollypip in stating that Mi-Mo needs someone who will be truthful to her, since she isn't a person who'll play this withholding info/teasing game with Hae-Joon. And what Hae-Joon needs at this point is a woman who will give love and not ask too much back in return, but Mi-mo wants love and attention just as much as Hae-Joon does, so that's why this relationship will never work out.

I'd like Hae-Joon to break up with Mi-Mo in the end because he realizes his faults and that Soo-hyuk will treat Mi-mo better. Although I don't think that's going to happen, so I'll be equally happy with Mi-mo realizing what she wants and dumping Hae-Joon. All's good with love and war.

Honestly, I find the comparisons to be quite unfair, though. HJ is working full time as a doctor and he knows and feels uncomfortable about his friend interfering in their relationship. Meanwhile, SH's full time job seems to be following MM around... honestly, how does he make money? He's everywhere so he can notice the small things that happen to her. HJ isn't completely cold, he just has less opportunities to show care for her because... he's not stalking her. How different would this drama be if SH didn't live across the hall from her?

I totally agree with your dynamics... Especially the last part about SH living next door... But rather than say he stalks her and doesn't seem to get any work done, I find it rather serendipitous that by virtue of their proximate living quarters... They often cross paths. At the private eating place, SH was working aka. Spying on some celebs and MM happened to be there.

Plus, when ladies feet hurt from stilettoes it should be obvious to anyone with a modicum of attention to women becos walking gets really uncomfortable and that is very hard to conceal.

If you watch the way they portrayed these small things in the episode though, HJ had plenty of opportunities to notice these things, more so than SH necessarily. SH saw MM for one elevator ride and noticed her hurt feet and bandaged finger. HJ was in the apartment with her when she cut her finger (and as he was apparently faking being sick? could easily have surreptitiously watched MM making juk... if he was really as interested/into MM as he seems to make out).
HJ has shown time and time again that when he's with MM he isn't really paying attention to HER. He likes the way she makes him feel, and enjoys teasing her. But he doesn't worry about her comfort or her concerns and he's never straight with her about anything really.

Haha when I was watching the scene where HaeJoon confessed I was thinking this story might go a different way and end up being a murder mystery or something, probably just me but he looked a little bit creepy there clenching his fists ... Also, I find HJ so hypocritical now. Wasn't he the one saying a one sided love should just remain as a one sided love? Now that we find out he really did confess, it sort of changes the way I saw that conversation.

Not sure if I'm overthinking this, but I've started reading a book about abuse and how abuser's think (Why Do Men Do That, by Lundy Bancroft) and um ... HJ's possessiveness, jealousy, manipulation, withholding information (cough cough sadistic tendencies to make MiMo worried about him cough cough) are all red flags in a real life man. Of course this is a drama so I'm sure no one reads into stuff this deeply and I might just be correlating one thing to another randomly lol.
Side note : I feel like this drama has lost its comedic strength and is just another rom com:/ MiMo is now the typical damsel in distress with SH as her saviour ... I'm much more interested in DaJung's story tbh.... Btw who's the actor that's playing DongMi's new love interest, he is kyaaaaworthy

I can't agree more. That's my problem with it too. From a rom-com, it has become a rom-melo! When start off being in 1 genre, attracting a certain audience w certain expectations, and switch to an opposite one, you'll lose audience interest.

I loved eps 1 & 2. In neither one was Soo Hyuk interfering. HJ only showed up in ep 1 in City Hall to witness; In ep 2, he only appeared when Mimo was wheeled into the Emergency Room where he was working. SH and MM made all the crazy on their own; it had nothing to do w HJ.

It wasn't until ep 5 that SH interrupted HJ and MM's cozy home movie date w texts, and fried chicken. Now That I found cringe-worthy rather than funny.

i can't recall if soo hyuk and gf were dating when he made his confession. i had assumed it was before they started dating and she then confessed to him she only had eyes for soo hyuk. either way, hj is starting to annoy me. in the beginning i wasn't annoyed so much because it seemed more like he was just teasing her a little but now it's changed to full blown jealousy and possessiveness.

i have to agree on the drama losing its comedic strength. glad i wasn't the only feeling it! i enjoyed the first few eps and now it's just meh. i'm watching it now cos i kept up with it.

please, let this be DongMi's new love interest and not some jerk. indeed, he's a cutie. on another note, i hope they don't try to give her a makeover or anything. she's super cute already. i just kinda want her to do something about the hair. i do not mean lose the curls--it's cute and she pulls it off--but maybe pull it back so we can see her. it bothers me so much that's always in her face...maybe that's just a "me" thing. i hate hair in all over my face. so bothersome. lol

Da Jung's husband played an important role in Bad Guys, though he doesn't appear until the middle of the season.

I tend not to get too upset about the men in these dramas flouting Western norms and my own feminist sensibilities. Hae Joon, however, is an exception. He seems emotionally dangerous and manipulative to a pathological degree. I think he's the most unintentionally unattractive character I've seen in a K-drama. Just seeing his face makes me mad at this point. (Though now that I think about it, he reminds me of Data from Star Trek Next Generation -- his face and his robotic nature.)

Not overthinking at all, imo. From early on, HJ has given me abuser/dominator vibes. Sadistic tendencies not just in making MM worry about him, but in his deliberate enjoyment at making her uncomfortable - thinking that means he likes her. Dude is a serious narcissist, with a scary psychopathic lack of empathy.

I think Jung Kyung Ho is a wonderful actor with plenty of charisma. But there is always a tiny or not so tiny bit of luck involved in great success. So far, that bit of luck has been eluding him in his work life (but not in his love life, thank goodness).
Looks like this drama won't be propelling him into the stratosphere, or the top of the A list. So far the ratings are so-so. Next week 2 big shows will be premiering in the SAME time slot: Rain's Ahjussai and Descendents of the Sun. (DB may hate the writer of the later, but rest assured, the rest of the world do Not.) Will this show be able to hang on to its market share in ratings?
I wish him the very best of luck with his next vehicle w all my heart. ?

I actually thought the first few episodes were too much, like the show was trying too hard to be funny. I'm actually just starting to like it now because of the romance. It's not that she's a damsel in distress, it's just the situation she's put in, and it's great that she has someone who looks after her. God knows her bf right now isn't really paying attention.

It might be too romancy for some people, but I kind of find it refreshing. It's not the typical when-we-were-younger-i-loved-her kind of thing, but it's just that all he wants is for her to be happy... and that makes me happy.

0

Required fields are marked *

Yes, I agree that this show is quite refreshing. I would say that they are able to balance the story of the 4 friends (one might argue this). Its not the amount of the scene for each one, but the feeling that we get from each of their story :). Just enough, nothing more, nothing less.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Agreed! I enjoyed eps 1 and 2 but it was 3 and 4 that drew me in, and 5 and 6 that made me stay. I find this refreshing as well and as the above comment has said, I love the balance of the stories of the 4 friends. Again you might argue this but Da Jung's story? It breaks my heart and almost brings me to tears every week. I love how they're telling it. Aeran's story is cute and fun, and Dong Mi's is (i hope) about loving herself or being comfortable with herself and finding someone that loves her for her.

Not to mention in my opinion the writers have tied in 10 year old Mimo and Soohyuk's story so well with the present! I love the way they're telling this story!

It's a light watch, I think people are looking too much into it. Also guys, Jang Nara and Jung Kyung Ho's chemistry is off the charts cute. Just watch and enjoy~

this drama itself is sooo boring. i keep watching it for kyungho/SH and dajung. i think, it would be great if YIN played Mimo instead of JNR. sorry not sorry. i dont know if im gonna quit watching it after ep 10... aigooo... i should have ZERO expectation about this drama since the first time i heard kyungho would act in this drama... huft.

I really really loved this show in the beginning (even till ep 6). And I still wait and watch it the day it is subbed. But I can't help but feel disappointed. With such awesome leads (Jang Nara and Jung Kyung Ho, for god's sake), this drama deserved better editing and story telling.

The editing makes me so irritated. We get a scene of the leads, then Da Jung, then other girls, without any connect in between. the flow of the story is often lost. Also, I think I noticed Jang Nara wearing one dress while going somewhere, and suddenly another when she reached a place in the same day. (Though I do admit the clothes worn in this show make me want to go shopping. In KOREA)

Plus the comedy has almost vanished. The leads are trying their best to make us laugh but the situations don't warrant the laughter that the first few episodes produced.

I really hope the writers pull up their socks and give the actors something good to work with. I am still rooting for this show and all the actors.

I am not sure how to feel about this drama after watching it this far. The thing is I am married to a man with the likeness of Dr.Perfect character...and the thing is I am in love with him in spite of his flaws.

You can't really change how you feel for someone even if someone "more perfect" comes along the way telling you all the right thing and doing all the right thing.

So.. I am a bit apprehensive about how the writer is going to write about Mi Mo character and the men from here onward.

Honestly, I think Hae Joon deserves a chance. He was interested in her. Love should start from getting interested with someone. And Mi Mo and So hyuk should get past that old school stories. How can a relationship blooms freely with a third person keep coming in between. They should really move away and stop seeing each other. :P

Seriously..I am disliking how the love story is being written.

By the way, I am a happily married woman. My man is just someone need to be told about things that I am concerned with. He doesnt notice every little thing but let not put a reason to love. Love is just is.... right??? hahaha.

Does your man also play mind games with you? Does he manipulate you? Is he jealous and possessive? Does he tell you that if you can't read his mind and wordlessly understand what he needs & wants, it means that you don't love him? Because Hae-joon does all that and THAT is what is problematic here, not the fact that he isn't perfectly aware of all Mi-mo's needs. In fact, that would be normal because we people are not normally mind readers.

So no, I cannot wish Mi-mo to end up with Hae-joon. Even if there was no other guy competing for her affections, I'd still rather see her single than with Hae-joon because his idea of love scary and destructive for the relationship. It would fall apart sooner or later anyway because Mi-mo cannot always guess right and at some point Hae-joon would just be like "you don't know what I want = you don't love me, so long!"

However, there are other signs, too. It doesn't seem to me like Mi-mo really is that much into Hae-joon. There's barely any warmth in their interactions and the lady needs to constantly remind herself of whom she is dating again. That is not love in my books. In my opinion, she was at first enamoured by his good looks and because he "saved" her but little by little she learns more and that magic is wearing down because the real Hae-joon is not that very appealing after all. Again, this relationship would not last long even if we took Soo-hyuk out of the picture.

In fact, I feel like it's actually writer's idea that love is this magical ability to know what your loved one feels and wants at any given moment. Hae-joon says it out loud, doctor advices it to Geun-hak and the perfect lover we are shown (Soo-hyuk) does exactly that. The message is very, very bad because that is not love at all. It's telepathy and that thing doesn't exists.

So well said.
Re Hae Joon, on top of everything you said, he is also a taker, not a giver. A healthy relationship has to be give and take. He is self-centred to the core.

For such a char to have so a prominent place in a story, we'd expect that they tell us more about his background, to make us understand why he is that way. W/o a backstory, he is just a sculptured-prince, carved out of something white and cold, cream cheese, sb said last week.

Required fields are marked *

I don't think the writer is implying that it's a magical ability. Soo Hyuk just so happens to pay a lot of attention to Mi Mo whether she knows it or not.

If Mi Mo weren't a tiny bit into Soo Hyuk, he would be borderline stalker-ish with what he does. It's the Dobler-Dahmer effect. But that kind of guy (almost stalker-ish, pays an extreme amount of attention to her, geniuinely cares for her without asking for anything back) is exactly the guy she needs and wants and she doesn't realize it yet. It's what she expects from Hae-Joon, but she's not getting because she can't figure it out.

In fairness to Hae Joon, if he wasn't a doctor, he'd probably be able to give Mi Mo the attention she needs, and thus also make it less likely for Mi Mo to get in situations where his possessiveness pops up. Unfortunately for him, this is the situation he's in.

Yeah, I don't think your profession decides your nature. Hae Joon not paying attention to Mi Mo has zero to do with his being a doctor. He's insecure and that's all about him. He thinks only about himself and how he feels at any given moment which is why he doesn't see her pain--physical or emotional. It's got nothing to do with Mi Mo. He did the same thing with his ex-wife.

of course there will be people who like someone despite his flaws - if everyone just like perfect beings we wouldn't have any couples in the world! lol..

but love is not one sided, nor is it same for everyone.. mimo (despite the initial setting) is just not that into haejoon.. she fell in love with this imaginary guy and assumed that they will have their happily ever after.. like with her ex.. when she heard he booked a hotel room etc, she assumed he will be proposing, when everything is just part of her wild imagination..

yes.. there is no need for a reason to love.. but that is exactly what mimo is doing - finding reason to love haejoon every day! for e.g. putting his photos all around her house to remind herself he's the one she love.. if that's not a sign, i don't know what is! i think you cannot be more wrong if you conclude that she fell out of love with haejoon just because a more "perfect" man appeared.. she wasn't in love with haejoon in the first place.....

More than anything, i just want 1 thing... For all the characters to get their happy ending, that's what the title suggests right? At this moment what i can see Mimo doesnt feel that happy when she's with Haejoon... She feels appreciated when she's with Soohyuk and that will make her happy if not for the fact that she's confused, but being herself when she is with Soohyuk tells me something, she should at least be happy when she didnt have to pretend with Soohyuk, whereas when she's with Haejoon she seems to be too cautious... Huhu... And for the sake of Minwoo, please, that boy just wants a woman for his dad, he doesnt even care about a mom for him, Soohyuk has already been more than that to him... So please... Not to say Haejoon is not a good man, just not a good man to Mimo who's willing to give all... And btw, i also hope that DongMi at last will be with the love of her life... Please dont make the boy be a jerk! And geun hak sshi, please dont just be a man behind the scene, just like how you were when you courted her back then, step up please! And hoho... Ae ran spoke the words out of my mouth, now dong bae is attractive to her... I sincerely think that this is the beginning of the second happy ending for her after her marriage, though with the same man, hahahah... I'm somehow sure dong bae feel the same way too, they just never felt the challenge when they were together before this...so please!!!!

Hello!

This is my first time writing a comment here :)
(well, obviously it is because i was so enchanted by the beauty of this drama, the first korean drama that I watch after 4 years!)

Some of us suggest that OMHE started to feel less rom-com esp when compared with ep 1 & 2. I would agree to it but thats only because the feelings left by this drama to the audience is real. I love the happy feeling from the comedy, but it's more that warm feeling from their friendship, tears, the care for someone we love (be it a son, a friend, a hoobae, a crush etc) that truly moves me. Even with ep 1 & 2, I love how the comedic can suddenly turn into heartfelt moment (scene of soo hyuk & mi-mo drinking session in ep 1)

Well, you dont expect to have rom-com up until the last episode won't ya? ;)

For ep 9, I have to give credit to the choice of song during Soo Hyuk Confession (If by Elsa Kopf). It sounds magical. :)

I noticed how Hae Joon started asking all the personal questions to Mi-Mo during their breakfast and getting angry when Soo Hyuk answer it, well that's understandable because he's jealous. But one thing that make me angry is because he stays silent throughout their car ride back to the city. Nope, no questions at all. Dead. Silent. Did he just asked the questions infront of Soo Hyuk just to 'mark his territory'?

Notice how Hae Joon character (being cold, teasing & possessive) will always be the First Lead character in other drama & they always get the girl? While Soo Hyuk (late in confessing, the silent type doing all the one sided love, taking care of the lead girl SILENTLY) is always, always the Second Lead? Great that this drama is doing the opposite thing.

This is the first episode I didn't finish all the way through. I had to break off in the middle and go do something, and then I just decided to read the recap. I hate the grade-school concept of love in this show. Seriously, Mimo? You've had, what, ten dates with this guy, and you probably haven't even kissed for reals, and you're hurt when he can't say whether he loves you? This is a woman who has been in long-term relationships before, including one marriage! It was always clear, anyway, that he wasn't in love. He couldn't stop with the mind games, and he was never, shall we say, all over her, the way a man in love would be with the woman he loves. He's passionate about winning over Soohyuk, but he's not passionate about her. They probably haven't been "together" (whatever they think that means) for six months, even. Why does she feel such pressure to make this nothing relationship work? Break it off already and date around some more.

I second everything you said. I really liked this drama in the beginning but really wish they hadn't gone into triangle territory. I honestly can't figure out if Hae Joon even likes Mi Mo for herself and not because she's Angels' Han Mi Mo. The show has shown multiple times how he doesn't notice when she's uncomfortable or in pain, he clearly faked being sick to have her come over (at least throw the food away so she can't see it, asshole), and he seems more intent on having a pissing contest with Soo Hyuk over her than actually engaging in a relationship with her.

I agree that the drama hasn't lived up to the promise of it's first two hilarious episodes, but it still keeps me coming back for more- watching the raw as soon as it comes out on viki even. So even if it's not stellar, the leads, the flashes of whacky humor, and the realistic (though of course exaggerated) relationships are enough to grab me. There's very few dramas lately that have managed to hold my attention like this, so I give it props.

Soo Hyuk is beyond words.. I love him.. And his voice!

Honestly, I would've felt sorry for the dr if he seemed genuine (we've had second leads who try but isn't the one.. Hae Joon is not one of them). Right now, I'm pissed at him for being so obtuse. He just want to compete with Soo Hyuk and beat him like its a game...

I love all the kid actors in this show. They are indeed doing an awesome job!

Ha! They're the "insert kid here cadre" I've seen them all before. They're little veterans. Hopefully they'll continue to grow up cute. Not do some Macualay Culkin about face on us. Occasionally in dramas the childhood backstory is better than the adult drama. Moon Embraces the Sun comes to mind right away.

thanks for the recap lollypip! still enjoying the show, slowing down a bit... the mob scene was too much, does it really happen in SK?

poor MW, he's really doing his best for his dad:) i'd take the movie tix anytime w/ the real JHK, but his gf might have something to say about that!

"Soo-hyuk gets a call from his one blind date, who would like to try meeting up again. Ha, he puts the call on speaker so that Min-woo can listen, and both of them make OMG faces when she suggests meeting right now."

- luv this scene, SH & MW looks so natural playing dad & son...

Geunhak why has he not yet gone in Dajung’s room? He's in the hospital a lot & none of Dajung's friend pac has seen him. He just walking the hall almost aimlessly & always stopping outside Dajung's door which is cracked just enough for him to see her but she doesn't ever see him???

I get that he loves her & is hurt by her pushing him away due to her inability to have children easily. But I'm not getting that she loves him. Is it only me...am i missing something? Asking for a hug, when she 1st found out about her breast cancer doesn't say love to me, it just say I need comfort, because I may not get it as a woman any more after the operation.

So the reason Conan is in this rom com is because he visited Korea? Does he like kd?

Well, there goes another rom-com. Sigh. I'll probably watch this until the end but I had a wtf look on my face while watching this episode. It's sad how dramas start so promising only to crash midway. I'm looking at you too, SWP.

You actually make it appear so easy together with your presentation but I find this matter to be really one thing which I believe I would by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated and extremely extensive for me. I'm looking forward on your next publish, I will try to get the cling of it!
