Oh Ji-ho gets saddled with My Little Baby

Cute. The premise of My Little Baby is pretty familiar — infant drops into a grown man’s lap, chaos and hilarity ensue — but there’s just something endearing about watching a tough guy flailing at the hands of a tiny baby. Oh Ji-ho (Ghost-Seeing Detective Cheo-yong) plays the lead, and in these teaser posters, he’s wearing a look of helpless bafflement, not knowing what to do with the screamy child. Frankly I think he’s holding it together remarkably well, but maybe the hero’s “war with the infant” hasn’t really begun yet.

Oh Ji-ho’s character gets saddled with the baby “by chance,” which doesn’t clarify whether the child is his or a random responsibility he gets stuck with, but suffice to say that infant-rearing doesn’t exactly fit into his lifestyle as an ace violent crimes detective. I’m guessing he’ll need a lot of help from Lee Soo-kyung (A Daughter Just Like You, Let’s Eat), a single mom raising a 5-year-old who was also our hero’s first love. Lee Soo-kyung described her character as seeming quite put-together and perfect, while actually being quite full of flaws in a lovable way.

The cast also includes 4minute idol Nam Ji-hyun (A Thousand Kisses) playing a “sexy baby yoga instructor,” which I know is an actual thing but can’t really wrap my head around. (Babies are rubber! What do they need yoga for? They can barely hold a single coherent thought, much less meditate, or sit upright!) Kim Min-jae (Twenty Again), meanwhile, plays a flower-boy barista who works with Oh Ji-ho in running a cafe.

The show sounds light and heartwarming, which makes me wonder why MBC is making this a late-night drama — it will run for 16 episodes on a once-a-week schedule, airing on Saturdays in the midnight hour. Usually the shows we get in these late-night slots tend to be darker thriller-type shows, or those with an age restriction for racy content; who do they see as their audience at that hour? Sleepless parents up in the middle of the night with a fussy baby, perhaps? Well, let’s see if the counterprogramming works out for them.

My Little Baby premieres on Saturday, March 5.

Kim Min Jae is almost flawless..... almost because he lacks serious acting skills. It was painful watching him in Twenty Again, especially that scene when he chided his mum for not telling him about her illness. His face was all scrunched up in angst but not one tear fell out. I think my face was more scrunched up than his during that scene. Lol.

Might just catch the premiere episode though, I do love babysitting hijinks :D

Lol! Well hopefully he won't have to do much face scrunching as a flower boy barista. Also I hope they show some actual baby yoga so I can see what that is.

He had more chops in Because it's the first time. I think it was the character not the actor in 20A.

Awww sounds cute! Just finished watching oh ji ho in ghost-seeing detective cheo yeong (second season is definitely better) where he was the scruffy tough guy dealing with a high schooler (that never got old!) and so i am looking forward to him dealing with a baby here...not too thrilled about the once-a-week episode though!

One of your past articles indicated the baby is his niece.

This looks really cute though. I think adoring single fathers are so cute and endearing.

I would totally watch Oh Ji-ho carry around/take care of a baby, if somewhat haplessly, for sixteen episodes. It's too adorable! Mark my words, this baby is going to be his most important co-star.

This looks so cute!!! I'm so happy to see Lee Soo Kyung again too!! Idk about the sexy baby yoga instructor though; youre right! What do babies need to stretch?? Unless it's like mom's doing yoga with their babies like in Return of Superman. Yano did it with Sarang; although Sarang's older now.

Baby yoga is to encourage reach and movement as well as help alleviate stomach pain or help with bowel movements. It's also a great way for parents to bond with their babies in another format of play! I love doing baby yoga for the littles ones in my infant class.

As for a sexy baby yoga, instructor...that's another matter all together haha. I'm excited to see this and see how well they encourage the baby to part take in this movie.

Oh Ji Ho may not be the best actor in kdrama, but he wears relaxed machismo like no one else. Is there another leading man around who looks so completely comfortable in his own skin?

Completely agree with this take on the ever enduring appeal of Oh Ji-ho for me. He's not the best actor (and I might be being kind here) but he is completely comfortable in his own skin. And he has qualities of likeableness and decency which the camera picks up beautifully. Also he has great rapport working with children as in Couple or Trouble, Single Dad in Love and Queen of Housewives. I'm really looking forward to this even though I have seriously gone off K-drama rom-coms recently.

Yeah he is a lot better than those boyish and girly looking actors. Most of them they almost look alike .
