Kim Ah-joong up for new tvN mistaken identity drama

New drama alert! Doesn’t it feel like there’s a new drama every day lately? Maybe there’s something in the air. There’s a supernatural mistaken identity drama headed to tvN on Mondays and Tuesdays this spring, called Oh Hae-young Again. It’s about two women named Oh Hae-young getting all mixed up in each other’s lives because they share a name, and Kim Ah-joong (Punch) is being courted to play the heroine. Er, one of the heroines.

The new series comes from PD Song Hyun-wook of Marriage Not Dating and Superdaddy Yeol, and writer Park Hae-young of I Live in Cheongdam-dong and Old Miss Diaries. The drama title and heroine’s name is a pun on the word “misunderstanding,” so it’s also a cutesy way of saying “It’s another misunderstanding.”

The problem is that two women not only share the name Oh Hae-young, but they also have the same occupation, which is probably the bigger issue. They both work for large catering companies (or perhaps the same one?), and one Hae-young is a team leader, while the other Hae-young is an assistant manager. Kim Ah-joong is up for the role of the assistant manager.

Then there’s also a man in their lives, who has the ability to see into the future. Why? I have no idea. It’s a little out of nowhere, given that nothing about two women sharing a name is supernatural, but there it is. The drama’s focal point is the two women and their intertwined fates, and their attempt to be free of each other, and the man’s attempt to be free of both of them. Guess it’s not a warm fuzzy drama. Is hate-com a thing? It does sound hilarious though, especially with the Marriage Not Dating PD involved. Fingers crossed for good co-stars.

Oh Hae-young Again will follow Pied Piper (which follows Cheese in the Trap) and premieres in May.

This sounds interesting! I always have high expectations with tvN.

But it has one of my pet peeves: character names with a pun. It used to be funny... the first 1000 times. Now it's just repetitive and annoying.

@__@ I'm so confused by the plot but maybe that's the point.

(PS I vote cockroach for lead guy cos "the man’s attempt to be free of both of them" seems like his MO)

I was frustrated with her in Punch. Any other drama, I would've been fine. But it was Punch! Kim Rae-won, Jo Jae-hyun and Seo Ji-hye (and many others...). sigh But I'm always willing to give people another chance with each new drama.

Ok, the premise and the actress I like enough, but the writer and PD are what's really drawing me to this project. I Live in Cheongdamdong is hilarious and heartwarming (and managed to be so for over 100 episodes) and Marriage, Not Dating is one of my favorite dramas. I have hopes that this will be a better outing for the PD than his last drama, what with a more experienced writer.

Admittedly, though I like Kim Ah-joong well enough, there are actresses that excite me more. I look forward to seeing how casting shakes out.

Are there complete subs somewhere for I Live in Cheongdamdong (if so, you just made my year), or did you watch it without subs? I thought only the first 20% or so of the episodes have been subbed. I REALLY want to watch it-- it sounds like such a gem.

I liked her character in punch, she was an equal match in terms of a strong willed personality to Kim Rae Won's character. She also acted ver well in dat drama.

Curious to see how this shapes up. I Live In Cheongdam-dong writer is a plus, tvN has more hits than misses, so it looks favorable from that standpoint.

This may turn out interesting, which is always a good thing of course. I might just give it a try.

Ok I didn't get everything. I lost the thread when a man who can see the future was mentioned. Anyway I trust tvN, it can only be funny. I've only seen Kim ah-joong in this pretty lame and bad movie she made with Joo Won (don't even remember the name). If I ca' forget it with this drama I'm fine.

Same - I was actually looking forward to this, as it seems like it is actually somewhat of an original plot. But then they tossed "sees the future", and I am like ... WTH for?

Oooh the plot is something fresh so I like it. I hope it will give Master's Sun-esque vibe. I love KAJ in films so I will definitely watch it (depending on who the male lead will be)
