Kim Woo-bin joins Lee Byung-heon, Kang Dong-won’s thriller Master
by girlfriday
Geez, it’s like a flower boy for every generation. All we need is a teenager and some halbaes and we’ve got a whole set. Apparently the new crime action thriller Master wasn’t satisfied with just Lee Byung-heon (Inside Men) and Kang Dong-won (Black Priests) headlining, because now Kim Woo-bin (Twenty) has signed on to join them. All three actors have been confirmed for the project, and character descriptions have been released for their roles.
The new crime movie comes from director Jo Eui-seok of the successful thriller Cold Eyes, and tells the story of a grand-scale con perpetrated by a ring of white-collar criminals, and the police intelligence division that’s hunting them down. It’s basically a big chase caper, and we can probably expect a large ensemble cast to fill both sides of the cops-and-robbers divide.
Lee Byung-heon stars as a notorious conman, the president of an organization called One Network. He’s a meticulous planner who’s amazingly skilled at talking his way out of anything and he’ll mastermind this massive con, whatever it is. Kim Woo-bin has been cast as his right-hand man, the brains of the team. He’s naturally gifted and One Network is his brainchild, so I’m thinking he’s probably a hacker of some sort? As the cops close in on them, Kim Woo-bin will be caught in the middle between both sides, leading to a tense game of double-triple-crossing and conning the conman.
And Kang Dong-won, oddly enough, is playing the cop. That’s… so weird. I’ve never seen him play a cop ever! This will actually be his first role as a lawman, though I wonder if he’s still the bad guy anyway, if the criminals are our protagonists. ‘Cause then we’re looking at another Kundo: Age of the Rampant situation, where he’s the authority figure chasing the merry band of bandits. Anyway, his detective team leader character is charismatic and intelligent, and plans his investigations to perfection. Looks like both cop and conman will meet his match.
Master starts shooting in 2016.

I mostly stuck to K-Dramas, but this might be an interesting and entertaining K-movie, might check this out! (Plus, Kim Woo-bin, ey? EY? *nudges* *winks*)

Kim Woo Bin, you've played similar role like this before (The Technicians). Do you want to get type-cast or what?
Funnily, this will be the first time Kang Dong Won playing as the detective. This time, I'll root for the detective side. :D

I am so here for the idea of a villainous Kang Dong-won. He gave me actual chills in Kundo, hands down the best part of the movie imo.

Lee Byung Hun need i say more?! He's outstanding, extremely charismatic and a master actor in his own right.
Kang Dongwon is prolific, never settle for anything less. aversatile actor.
Kim Woo Bin is smart actor and knows what he wants. I can see him walking the same path as KDW who both started as runway models and have passion for film acting.
Visual aside, the story is cliche but all eyes are on their acting and characters. Producers can sit back & relax. Just names of these 3 alone are surefire box office hit.

Except that Kang Dong Won is a better actor by far...

that's obvious given their age & experience.
If Kim Woo Bin will focus in films and be as smart as KDW in picking up edgy roles, he will be better like KDW.

That's just the problem, he needs to vary his roles a bit. He has an upcoming drama but I hope it doesn't just have him doing his intense bad-boy routine again.
A spot of shedding that image would be nice, he was adorable in Vampire Idol and could do well in a comedy fi he had a competent costar to play off.

Honestly, i don't care much about Lee Byung Hyun's personal life. He may be a two-timing @sshat but he's a great and charismatic actor. I get sucked in by his acting every single time so i'm definitely watching this. Oh...and there's Kang Dong Wan as well. So swell~
