First stills from the set of JTBC rom-com Madam Antoine
by girlfriday
I don’t know how the re-airing of Padam Padam is doing for JTBC, but I’m definitely more inclined to catch the upcoming Friday-Saturday drama Madam Antoine after the year-end madness is over and I have time to watch lots of dramas again. As weird as a comic love story between a shrink and a quack fortuneteller sounds, I have to say, my curiosity has been tickled.
The production released the first stills from the set, of leading lady Han Ye-seul (Birth of a Beauty) in her first scene at the theater, waiting for someone to arrive. She plays a fake fortuneteller who goes by the name Madam Antoine, because she’s purported to have a divine connection to Marie Antoinette. It’s all a lie, of course, and she’s able to keep up the ruse because she’s so skilled at cold-reading people.
She’s a character who believes in the fantasy of true love, who uses her sharp skills of observation to learn people’s stories and help heal their wounds. Sung Joon (High Society) plays her opposite, naturally. He’s a star psychologist who’s indifferent to love. They do have one thing in common — they both know other people’s hearts but not their own — and will heal each other as they share a sweet, funny romance.
I’m also interested because it comes from the director of My Name Is Kim Sam-soon and Que Sera Sera, and the writer of The King 2 Hearts and Mi-rae’s Choice. Sung Joon isn’t very funny (unless the humor is in a humorless guy who keeps a deadpan face), but I’m hoping that the point is the contrast between him and the bubbly and comedic Han Ye-seul. She’s probably going to bring all the funny, but she’s got enough for two, right? Guess we’ll see.
Madam Antoine will air on Fridays and Saturdays beginning in early February.

Yasss Han Ye-seul. :))) She's best when being crazy-level funny. I hope it turns out good so I can watch her again in something.

Will probably watch this for Han Ye Seul. I really like her a lot specially on comedic roles. Couple or Trouble does not get old with me.
Have to say she's super gorgeous in those stills above.

i concur with everybody, she's so damn pretty. i'm so glad her career survived. sung joon was actually hilarious in gu family book, if they set him up as the straight guy it could totally work.

OMG Han Ye Seul totally rocks in comedic roles. Cant wait. Only problem is Sung Joon. Ahh.... couldn't they have a better actor. He makes me cringe. He is so awkward in screen.

Does Sung Joon have a sponser or something. He is landing all these lead roles with that crap acting. People hate on Jin Se Yeon. He is also on same par with her.

I don't think so. He's earned his leading status by putting in some great performances in Shut Up Flower Boy Band, White Christmas, and Can We Get Married. He was at his best in those, but I've liked him in his projects since then. The only off-performance was his last one and his character was severely under-written in that.
I'm hoping to see him prove himself again in this one because the plot, director, and writers all have me interested.

Agree.. He is a very good actor...I don't get the hate... His eyes are emotive and so are his gestures but I do think he went a little overboard with the botox since he does come across as poker face in stills (not in acting)...I could be wrong about the botox thing but he is an expressive actor, just broods more than needed. He was very good in Shut Up Flower Boy Band and White Christmas.

Oh he was god in Gu Family Book too... he was effective enough to earn a leading role but hope he maintains it works hard on his other expressions.

I think he's bad at picking roles. Well, to be fair he keeps picking roles that *I* think sound good but end up being kind of bad. Like the High Society one, and the weird psychologist on Jekyll Hyde I. The turn on "I Need Romance" was actually pretty dull, too. Plus he's a former model turned actor so he's got that to overcome and while he initially did well ...
He's not someone who can elevate mediocre material but he can do well with reasonably good material. He NEEDS this next show to be a hit and let him show off good acting chops.

I love Han Ye Seul but hate Sung Joon's acting...total uggsssss.....I haven't been impressed with anything he's been in and I can already imagine the same deadpan face he'll have in pretty much every scene....
He's another Jin Se Yeon - there's gotta be some sponsor somewhere.

I've always wanted to like Sung Joon. And I came so close with SUFBB. But after seeing him in more stuff, well, he doesn't impress me. I think he's decent but I've always seen him as Sung Joon and not as his character.
I liked Han Ye Seul in the little I've seen of BoAB. That drama turned out to be such a hot mess, wasting its wonderful leads(poor JSW. He's good at romcom but has no luck in choosing a great one). Here's to hoping this drama is good.

One of my most anticipated dramas, purely course of Han Ye Seul. Love her after BotB.
Not very excited for Sung Joon though. Liked him enough in Gu Family Book, but he's always the same in all his late dramas.

I'm getting tired of noona romance. There are loads of smoking hot actor in their 30s for Han Ye Seul's partner or pretty cure girl for Sung Joon's leading lady. I just can't understand the noona romance. like again...and again...

I'm pretty sure the guy's character is the same age or older. But I agree that huge age gaps either way are becoming a turn off for me.

the thing I noticed first was how flawless her skin looks on those pictures. how envious!
I'm looking forward hoping it will be a good drama with HYS. I can hardly recall any other dramas of her that I enjoyed or actually watched except Fantasy Couple. I enjoyed her in fantasy couple. well, I enjoyed the drama. period.

This could be a decent drama if only Han Ye-Sul was not in it. I am still gagging from Birth of a Beauty (which she isn't )

Sung Joon is a decent actor IMO. He got me in Shut up and that movie, Pluto. IMO he is far from Jin Se Yeon's level
