Apology or confession in Descended From the Sun’s first teaser

Oh boy. Well, you know you have a Kim Eun-sook drama on your hands when the hero manages to anger you in twenty seconds flat. Sometimes I forget that we’re stepping into her alternaverse where up is down and domineering is supposed to be sexy. Is it too much to hope that the first teaser isn’t an accurate reflection of the drama to come? There’s a first for everything, no?

After months of pre-production and shooting ahead of broadcast in overseas locations, we finally get the first glimpse of Descended From the Sun, the new KBS Wednesday-Thursday melodrama starring Song Hye-gyo (That Winter, The Wind Blows) and Song Joong-ki (Nice Guy) as a doctor and a solider who fall in love in a fictional war-torn country.

The teaser opens on the leads mid-argument, as Song Joong-ki brings up, “When I kissed you that time without permission…” Song Hye-gyo tries to cut him off to stop talking about it, but he steels his gaze and asks, “What should I do, apologize or confess?” Well you could start by sounding apologetic instead of mad, ’cause I’m pretty sure it’s not her fault you’re in this situation. It just plays as tense rather than romantic, but maybe that’s the point.

I do expect them to have chemistry in the drama, and for the tumultuous setting to heighten the melodrama and the romance, so I don’t think the show will be disappointing on that front. This writer (Heirs, Secret Garden) just tends to take actors I like and have them play characters that I don’t like, and it always makes my head spin. C’mon, Song Joong-ki. I’m rooting for you not to be an asshole. You can do it!

Descended From the Sun follows Master of Trade—Inn 2015 in February.

I love reading all your negative comments here even before the drama has started and I love all your hatred for 'The Inheritors' because it propelled LMH and PSH to great heights in terms of popularity as it did for HB and HJW after 'Secret Garden'. Take a bitter or jealousy pill everyone. KES you are an awesome writer!!!

Ok, I did it, and my verdict is... jerk, yes, but those eyes and the voice...and him in uniform?? I'm in.

haha...the 'he's in uniform' swing factor...

sounds a bit like conversations I've had with a friend who's dated a couple of officers...

I don't know... I don't think it's that bad yet... Without seeing the rest of the scene. Teasers are sometime deliberate in misleading us.

I agree that KES male leads are jerks. But let's face it, the audience loves it and the actors all the more based on the high ratings and the popularity of her lead actors. If there's anyone to blame it's also the audience for eating these kinds of stories up. Heirs ack... That one rubbed me the wrong way. Who cares - apparently much of Korea and overseas loved it anyways.

The teaser is a mere 20 seconds long, but yet it can be confidently declared that the leads "have no chemistry"? Really? OKaaaaay.....

I thought The Heirs was a piece of crap (though, I did watch it all the way through---mostly to participate in the egg-throwing fest that ensued after each episode), but I loved SG. It's the only drama I actually own a physical copy of, and have watched multiple times. I love the way Kim Joo Won's arrogant jerk of a character turns into someone who would give up everything he owns and values for the woman he loves, including his very life. Plus the times they switch bodies was comedic gold. HB and HGW had chemistry to burn, and HB is some of my favorite eye candy.

I probably watch the first episodes of this one, though I'm not a fan of stories set in war zones. The leads are pretty, as well as capable as actors. I'm also a huge SHINee fan, and hearing that Onew is in this one has certainly peaked my interest (hope he can hold his own in a supporting role). I know Kim Eun Sook has been turning out weaker and weaker scripts, but hope springs eternal. I'm willing to wait until the polls close and see what the general consensus is on the actual drama before jumping on the hate wagon.

omg so many negative comments.. human being are so uneasy to please.. why don't they be the writer themselves and make their own drama? it's not like Kim Eun Sook will ever change or care what antis think of her writing.. and by the why she's the one who have the ultimate power to do whatever and pick whoever.. something that all of us can only imagine or dream about.. and we are probably can never see Song Joong Ki or Song Hye Kyo in person until we die. I'm so freaking jealous to my cells with her. That lucky bitch Kim Eun Sook hahahaha...

Urg...I'm just hoping that he is not like the rest of her male leads and If they are gonna look coiffed, styled and clean in a war zone, I 'mma drop this stat..

But is it right to think that the writer has chosen the actors ?

I'm not a fan of this writer but yes it's right to think that she has chosen (some of) the actors in this case. Kim Eun-sook has written some high rating shows and a national drama. She is the type of writer that would get involved in casting or recommend actors for her dramas.

Some writers have certain actors for their characters in mind while writing the script. Some writers have enough power to pick the actors they want for their characters like diva writer Kim Soo-hyun. Some writers are also the executive producers in their dramas like writer Kim Young-Hyun and are part of the casting panel.

Haven't seen the kiss, so I don't know if it is something that deserves an apology or not. No one looks mad in this scene to me. Just emotional and tense. I don't think his wanting to talk about the kiss even when she doesn't want to discuss it makes him an a$$hole. He seemed to be asking her if she would accept a confession from him or if he should apologize for the kiss instead. Guess I will have to wait and see. Not much to go on here. Seemed pretty mature to me.

how come I did not feel anything after watching the teaser? its just so bland? while tvn 20 sec teasers gives out so much.
I hope this drama will not be a flop though, cuz Song Joong Ki's months of filming, injury, and suffering will just all go down the drain. Anyway, whatever happens, i'll keep my eye on this drama for Joong Ki oppa.

Hello haters above!

You don't know what you're missing for skipping this one. Those comments were written before the drama was aired. You judged the show without even bothering to see it first.

And for the owner of this blog, why don't you watch first the full episode so you'd know where the male lead character is coming from?

Tsk, tsk, tsk I thought this is one unbiased blog.
