Yoo In-young, Jung Kyeo-woon join Oh My Venus

We’ve got our second leads for KBS’s new “health healing rom-com” Oh My Venus, otherwise known as the So Ji-sub & Shin Mina Show. Because yunno, we’re mostly in it for those two and their adorable chemistry. They’ll be joined by Yoo In-young (Mask) and Jung Kyeo-woon (Birth of a Beauty), who have signed on to play their rivals. Well if you have to have romantic rivals, Yoo In-young is tough to beat in the sassy, love-to-hate-so-much-you-love-her category. She’s awesome.

The new romantic comedy is about dieting, strangely enough, and features a heroine who loses her perfect figure and undergoes a diet challenge, falling in love with her trainer in the process. Shin Mina stars as a lawyer who was enviably beautiful in her youth, and has gained weight as an adult. So Ji-sub is a world-famous trainer to the stars who’s veiled in mystery (I don’t know why anyone would care enough about a trainer to think he’s mysterious, but let’s just go with it). As they work on the heroine’s physical transformation, they’ll heal each other’s internal wounds and fall in love.

Yoo In-young plays a lawyer who’s Shin Mina’s friend from school, and now her boss at their law firm. In their youth, Shin Mina had all the looks and Yoo In-young was overweight with zero self-confidence. Of course as adults they’ve swapped places and Yoo In-young is gorgeous and successful, and she’ll even steal Shin Mina’s boyfriend.

Jung Kyeo-woon costars as Shin Mina’s boyfriend of fifteen years. He’s a former national swimmer and now a public relations manager for a medical corporation, who also happens to be So Ji-sub’s childhood rival. Just coincidentally. He’s with the heroine mostly out of obligation after fifteen years together, so when he meets Yoo In-young, he leaves Shin Mina for her. Your loss, man. Maybe they figured there was no need for second lead syndrome when you have So Ji-sub and Shin Mina?

Oh My Venus follows Sassy Go Go and premieres November 16.

Cheer up = Sassy Go Go :-)

The SJS show takes over that slot.

Wow. Jung Kyeo-woon probably doesn't even have to learn any new lines. He can just recycle everything from birth of a beauty.

+1 This is exactly what I was thinking. He's being reduced to playing stock characters more and more.

It's a shame really. I liked his more complex and endearing characters. Like him in History of a Salaryman.

I loved him in Salaryman -- it's was so clear how much fun he was having poking fun at the stock characters he's usually called on to play. For me that dramedy had it all.

This drama gets better and better with each announcement of new cast member. So thrilled that Yoo In-Young is joining!

Yoo In-Young has a good rep, but I still look forward to seeing her do some serious acting, somewhere. In 'Mask' she looked like she was doing a stage character, all fashion and posing, and then I checked out 'Empress Ki' and she had all the same expressions.

I wish she'd do better stuff too, like maybe work with Punch's writer? Or heck, even sageuk, since her TTM character is what won me over with her. Ohhhh I could see her doing a C-drama. In a good enough show, she would look great in the costumes, plus their female roles tend to do more than in K-historicals.

Jung kyeo woon is a first lead material for me. Its saddening seeing him downgraded to second lead these years when in the past he was first lead. Such a shame. !!

Jung Kyeo-woon was so great in Dr. Champ. So sad that he hasn't played an awesome character like Park Ji-heon since. Seriously, that show had Kim So-yeon and Uhm Tae-woong (love them both), but JKW was clearly the star of it. Wish he could play less sleazy guys.

As for the show's premise, at least the main guy isn't a geeennnniiiiuuuusss trainer!

Mina doesn't look like she needs to go on a diet. She probably will need to wear a fat suit since she is going to lose weight at some point in the drama.

I'm not much of a rom.com fan but I'll check it out for the leads.

"Dated" for 15 years... Quick question : why would anybody date a person for 15years?? And then d person walks away, 15wastedyears..

It's Kdrama-land, nothing is logical.

Why not? One of the PhD students in my former group just broke up with his girlfriend, who he had dated since high school. Not 15 years, but pretty close (13 or 14 years, I think).

Because not everyone is keen to marry. But it is noticeable in a conservative Korean society.

People get divorced all the time, which is the same as a married couple breaking up. And some people don't want to get married, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for over 30 years and they have never married. My brother never wants to get married despite being in a serious relationship.

Birth of A Beauty v.2?

I'm just laughing out loud on the characters' descriptions. All four leads are gorgeous that's for sure.. Let's hope the writing is good.

So Jung Kyeo Woon will ditch Shin Mina to be with Yoo In Kyung? Interesting because in their previous drama, Wonderful Mama, he separates with Yoo In Kyung to be with Jung Yoomi instead haha

I hate fat suits, it's always overkill. Plus isn't it hot in SK right now? Thats gonna be a special kind of dramaland hell right there. Shin Mina fighting.

Oh noo, she'll really wear a fat suit? You know you can feel very insecure and lose all of your confidence, if you just put on a few pounds. I think it's autumn now there, but still.

Couldn't it be a drama about going out with your hot trainer WITHOUT the whole dramatic weight gain/dieting spin? That would be hot, instead of brain-dead. It could be about health-nerd love: they could feed each other gross paleo cookies to all their friend's disgust and have PPL sportswear work outs together and be generally fit-people-obnoxious without this Biggest Loser mess (because we know they'll mean it literally) and be way funnier.

Also, what's with dramas and girls stealing their friends' man? Since they always do the diametric-opposite-in-everything-trope, it follows that realistically they'd have VASTLY different taste in men. Wait my fault, I said realistically. But hey, Yoo In-young, you got me.

Seriously illogical the storyline gets it becomes better for kdrama from seeing ghost, nine tailed fox, alien living for 400 years, 38 year housewife going to college (they are all awesome dramas) compared to these this has less illogical storyline

That was my first thought. It's his Birth of a Beauty role all over again and while he can play dick characters really well and even frightening ones (see La Dolce Vita), 1) do we really need another fat-shaming k-drama? 2) Why can't he be lead, since he's got the material for it?, 3) I love dorky Gyu-woon best (History of the Salaryman, Dr. Champ) *le sigh* . He's so underrated and seems to be stuck playing second fiddle, which is a shame. In his last roles (God's Gift, BOAB) he was terribly underused.
