So Ji-sub pumps iron for Oh My Venus

You know what they say: One man’s teaser is another man’s workout. No, seriously, this new teaser clip for KBS’s upcoming rom-com Oh My Venus is just a bunch of shots of its star, So Ji-sub, pumping iron. Huh.
Sure, he does it very well—some of those moves look equal parts awe-inspiring and painful. And So Ji-sub does play a fitness trainer in the drama, so it’s not like it’s entirely irrelevant. It’s just that the video looks pretty slapdash for a teaser, though I’m sure the drama will be following up with more proper ones soon enough.
Oh My Venus is calling itself a health and healing romantic comedy, using a diet challenge as its central conceit. Its heroine, played by Shin Mina, was once a popular beauty in her high school years, but has grown heavier and less attractive in adulthood. I’m trying really hard not to cringe at the premise alone (much less throw things at it), and am hoping that there’s more to the plot than a beautifying regimen. There has to be more to it, right? You don’t just cast two stunning stars and then waste them on silly plots with little meaning, do you (…Warm and Cozy)?
Well, the starpower is enough to get me hoping the drama turns out well, and I’ll just remind myself repeatedly that another drama with a similar-sounding premise, She Was Pretty, turned out to be a much more pleasant surprise than its she-was-pretty-and-now-is-ugly setup. There is always hope! And when hope fails you, there is internet rage.
Oh My Venus follows Sassy Go Go and premieres as a KBS Monday-Tuesday drama on November 16.

frankly, the cast is the only reason I'm even bothering with this.
Not just because they're gorgeous, but they're also fairly selective with drama scripts - Shin Mina especially goes years between dramas, so I hope the script she saw had something in it to convince her it was worth doing.

Yeah, the cast for me is really because I just love watching them both on screen. It's not a visual thing (although they obviously have that) but they're just really engaging and seem to pick things that suit them well.

please don't be as stupid as your premise sounds, Show. PLEASE.
But KBS has really dropped the ball on promoting some of its best recent dramas, their teasers and publicity sell you something totally different from the (much, MUCH better) actual drama. See: Sassy Go Go.
I just hope OMV turns out decently and gets a good reception. I can only tolerate one pointless waste of talented leads in one year, and Warm & Cozy is it for 2015.

I really wanted to like The Time We Were Not In Love because of the cast, but it's the ONLY Rom-Com I've seen this year that bored me. I think the only one I haven't seen was that one with No Min-Woo.
I was fine with Warm and Cozy, and actually liked Virtual Bride and Ex-Girlfriend Club.

Ngl, I read it up there as 'oh my penis' too, but to be fair that's the closest they can get to a v sound in writing. Properly, I think they actually use the higher p sound like '페니스' of hangul to spell out the english word of penis instead.

It's very interchangeable though. The first thing you learn about hangul is to never relate hangul symbols to definite sounds in the english language. ㅂ can be used in many ways.
For example: 박신혜 (Park Shinhye) and 김범 (Kim Bum) -- both use ㅂ but Park and Bum use it in different ways.

The V sound doesn't exist in Korean, so the hangul used to rep it is 비. Where the English word begins with P, the hangul used is 피, in my experience.
And since this all started because someone made an 'observation' that Koreans will mispronounce the title of this drama in a particular way, when does Venus - transliterated as 비너스 - sound like 'Penis'? 너 is pretty unambiguously not an 'I' sound like the 'ni' in 'Penis', unless that person has learned some special hangul that teaches them that it is.
Anyway, the issue is that it's not cool to mock people who don't speak English as a primary language, for the imagined mispronunciations of English words. And then try to justify it by saying the script of those people's language justifies your (not you specifically, more like a general you) ignorance.

That's the thing though. Any English speaking Korean person (or at least the ones I know) will tell you there's no such definite thing or that it doesn't matter. ㅂ is both p and b because the best way to describe it is a mixture of the two sounds, there's no definite sound, you can use it for both. I don't know if the original person was making fun of it or not (if they are, that's not cool), I brought up '페니스' (which is the correct spelling of hangul penis) because I thought I was being helpful lol. Because I, in fact, think 비너스 sounds more like penis in English than 페니스 actually does, I thought maybe the person was confused too. Just like how 비 (Bi/Rain the singer actor) pronounced out loud sounds more like Pi to me.

Oh wait, I gotta correct myself, I read this part wrong “English-to-Korean transliterations.” I thought you meant Korean-to-English. That's really my bad. I believe v does go with ㅂ, but that doesn't change the sound of ㅂ which can be pronounce with the interchangeable p/b sound.

@soapbox I think @pogo pointed out that the sound of 'Venus' in Korean is like Bhi-NEO-su, while the other word is Pi-NI-su. At least two points in which the Korean versions are different, even if you don't accept that the first part has different sounds, the second part's vowels are different.

Maybe it's because in english the pronunciation of penis and venus sound the same to me, they even rhyme, adding to that the sound of b/p/v is shared with ㅂ in hangul (while the hangul word for penis '페니스' sounds more like peh-niece to me). I'm sitting here talking about sounding out v/penis and hangul like a simpleton, you guys are defending the pronunciation because you think Newbie is making fun of Korean people so I back your reason.

The 'Venus' in the title uses 비 as the hangul, which is more like a 'B', while a word with a distinct 'P' sound at the beginning would have 피 at the start, as was done in the case of Pinocchio the drama.
And if you really want to claim that the hangul gave you the excuse to say 'Venus' sounds like 'Penis', I suggest taking another look at it - 비너스, if you want to be absolutely literal about it, would sound more like Bi-neo-s(u).

What exactly did I do? I said, the makers chose a crappy title, because it is open to a lot of misunderstandings.
Suddenly chaos ensues as selfproclaimed defenderes of the Korean pride know exactly what I intended? How? Telepathy?
Korean series are sold into a lot of countries. Many South-East Asian countries speak English. This name is a bad business move. Big companies invest a lot of money to find brand names, that don't create problems in other countries. Think of Toyota's MR2, which is MR Deux in French and sadly resembles Merde which means sh*t. (Which reminds me btw of another awful title like City / Sh*tty Hunter.)
Come on! It can't be unimportant to the makers of such a series what mental connections their product creates?
And it must be possible to point this out, without getting crucified as racist, because you can only think of one possible intention I could have had.
Otoh is your willingness to judge people and start sort of a witch-hunt based on anything but facts shocking and far more disturbing. You should really mind your own business and be less judgemental.

I think now my son is too embaressed to go with me lol, but perhaps I can learn a few times here and there from our So Jib Sub :P :D

Am I being naive here? I don't think anyone was making fun of the way Korean people pronounce the word since the clip doesn't have anyone saying it. I think we're just discussing the written hangul and how it sounds when people here try to sound it out using the hangul (particularly non-native speakers learning hangul).
I'm not sure where people are getting "피너스" from, that's not the hangul writing for penis. It's 페니스? I even had to look it up to be sure lol.

Dang, that last workout move is crazy! Definitely awe-inspiring. Ha, I love how most commenters don't mind at all that this teaser was just teasing us with So Ji-sub's body. While the idea of uglyfying Shin Mina is something to scoff at, it's still fun to look forward to.
As for this drama following Sassy Go Go--NOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'm totally loving that show to pieces and don't want it to end--not yet! IT'S. SO. GOOD.

Not bad - pretty decent definition and mass.
Still could bulk up in certain areas.
Not talking about Kim Jong-kook bulk which is too much, but out of all the Korean actors - would say that Mr. Hand Towel has the best combination of muscle definition and mass.

That second to the last move looks like his own variation of a pull-up.
It has the arm movement similar to an "Around the World Pull Up". The leg movement is similar to a "Tornado Pull Up". We'll just have to call it the SJS ^‿^
