Keeping up with ’80s trends in Answer Me 1988

HAHA, I have to hand it to them — this first teaser for Answer Me 1988 is pretty awesome. It’s just Hyeri putting on her own makeup to go out with Lee Sang-eun’s 1988 hit “Damdadi” playing in the background, and it’s everything you’d expect about terrible ’80s trends.

Yup, blue eyeshadow, thick eyebrows, blood-red lips. Check, check, check. My favorite part is the unmistakable slivers of tape to try and get her eyelids to fold, and lighting a match to curl her eyelashes. It’s so bad it’s good. Here, see for yourself… What were we thinking, right? Sigh, ’80s.

Also, tvN has fiiiiinally announced the official premiere date for the series, which launches on November 6. I wonder if it just wasn’t ready in time to premiere right after Twenty Again (though really, you had months and months and months), but now there will be a two-week gap between the shows.

Twenty Again won’t be extended, which I’m perfectly happy with — I’d hate to see a great story go off the rails, no matter how many times you flash Lee Sang-yoon’s dimples at me. Answer Me 1988 will air a long preview on October 30, then premiere on Friday, November 6.

Her style and her hair reminds me of a fat girl from boboho movies. Was it 80s?

Did you mean Mimi from the Drew Carry Show?

Kathy Kinnie is love. I love her so much in that show. Drew at the office is so boring without Mimi.

Wow, I mean. I was born in the 80's so I didn't really remember about the make up. The shoulder pads sure, because mom has a lot of them but I never remembered her make up being that insane.

So, let me see if I fully understand the "magnificent" programming of the "No1 Trend Leader" of Korean TV: they cancelled Ex-Girlfriend's Club leaving a two-week gap ( OK, the numbers were horrible though it was a funny drama, they needed a stronger lead-in for the Ghostess, I get it), they didn't give any extension to "Ghostess" which had an uphill sprint week after week rating-wise (and it needed it as well, as far as I'm concerned, they will not extend Twenty either (another top hit show) and they end up with a gap between series (again) despite Twenty's ratings and SIG's cameo in Ghostess! Wow..! tvN has bent all the well-known rules of Television Programming on a global scale and I don't know if that's genius or pure luck. Only time will tell...

They're doing one thing right: avoid extension.

Well, I can recall at least two-three shows with extra episodes and three shows that got cancelled. It's basically the two sides of the same coin. All TV channels,- cables included-, are primarily after profit.

I remember when I was a kid, one of my elder cousins brought his girlfriend over and she looked just like that. However I also remember my mum said she must have been a show girl or work at a nightclub ...

Every era has a trendy mess.

80s was pretty awesome regardless. To me, it celebrated self expression, freedom and being different. Some great things existed BECAUSE it was the 80s: Molly Ringwald (Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club), Tina Turner (have you never seen 'What's Love Got To Do With It'? She was the epitome of coolness strutting in her glorious 80s trends.), Cindy Lauper, Madonna, Prince (Purple Rain), Pat Benatar (You must watch 'Love is a Battlefield' right now! Who can forget the dance sequence at 3:05 in the club that ends outside to a sunset.), Michael Jackson (Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean) and the list goes on.

Yes the music in the 80s was fabulous and the fashion was horrible. Even kids clothes had shoulder pads.

Aside from the rise of the brat pack — ringwald, lowe, estevez, moore, etc — the 80's brought back the musical movies that really sealed the decade : footloose, staying alive, flashdance, fame and the rest of those latino films from la bamba to salsa.

the 80s really also made some lasting and signiture looks that may be sinful and awful to reminisce — pads, tight jeans folded at the bottom, colored undershirts rolled up along with the top shirt to make a puff/muscle look. the hair that are sprayed so glued high together and that could beat a tsunami. 80s was also the start of highlights, steaks and multi-colored hair.

80s is one such statement.

I wasn't lucky enough to be alive on 80's to witness the glory of it but I saw some my older siblings photos from that era and omg it's freaking accurate with the cake-y makeup and strong bold eyebrows lol Though eyebrows part I believe already making it way for comeback nowadays.
