Crime movie One Line: Lee Jong-seok out, Im Shi-wan in?
by girlfriday
I guess this means that Lee Jong-seok passed on the new crime movie One Line, because now Im Shi-wan (Misaeng) is fielding offers to headline the project. Well I can certainly see what image they’re going for in casting the lead. Im is coming off of shoots from his period film Thoughts of Oppa, which just wrapped; his reps say that he’s considering the role, but it’s just one of many possible projects and nothing’s been decided.
The film comes from director Yang Kyung-mo, who won an award for his short film at the 2015 Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival and will be making his feature film debut. It’s about a group of con artists who run a large-scale insurance scam, and Im Shi-wan is being courted to play the ringleader. It’s hard to think of Im Shi-wan as a criminal mastermind, when all I see is Jang Geu-rae (in a good way, because he was so vulnerable and good in Misaeng).
But he’s already made a name for himself in Chungmuro with The Attorney, and has moved up to leading roles with Thoughts of Oppa and now this offer, so I wonder if it’ll be a good long while before he’s back in dramaland. He’s picked some great projects so far and doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down anytime soon, but it would be nice to see him back on the small screen in the coming year too.
One Line plans to finish casting and begin shooting by December, for a 2016 release.

I had read that Lee Jongsuk had passed on the Misaeng role too....
Strange.... I can hardly link them together (due to their height difference?, ha)

I can actually see Im Shi-wan as a criminal mastermind pretty easily - it's not evident when he's playing Jang Geu-rae, obviously, but Equator Man did show he's quite capable of being the bad guy.

I always thought his character on Misaeng was a pretty genius strategist/analyst who just needed more experience and a chance to bloom. So, I can see him going evil genius, though he's so damn pretty he would probably come across as an angelic psycho... maybe they should do a Kdrama version of Death Note with him.

oh I can definitely see how Jang Geu-rae was an A+++ strategist (he was a baduk player after all) but there's never any hint of that kind of darkness in him in that role, he's just so sincere and dogged and puppy-like.
And he can definitely do evil genius or a hint of bad boy, quite well. He's had quite a range of roles up to now including antagonist ones, and I think he can make a good villain if he wants to.

He's only really crazy mad when someone attacks his precious Team Leader. (See: Sukyool and The Rooftop)

um... le jongsuk's loss..im si wan' gain? i honestly can't picture siwan as a criminal, much less a ringleader.. but maybe he could pull it off... i mean..with that cute face, innocent eyes.. one can easily fall for his quiet charms.. that's the mark of a con artist, right?

It's too bad that Lee Jong Suk passed this one on, I would have loved to see him in this type of role and I think he would have done well in it too. He seriously needs to get back on my screen.
But I will keep my eyes on this movie anyway, as it sounds interesting still.

Lee Jongsuk would do well to branch out from rom-com drama lead or he runs the risk of being typecast. They are both (Lee Jongsuk and Im Si Wan) talented actors, either one of them will do well in this role.

I agree. Lee Jong-seok does have a fair range within his roles, but the roles themselves follow a pattern (except for Hot Young Bloods, where he plays the town Casanova - quite a departure from his sweet, broody intense characters in dramas).
He'd do well to branch out a bit, there was a scene in I Hear Your Voice which made me think he'd do really well as a serial killer if he wanted. He should follow up on that.

+1 on LJS as serial killer.
i'd probably watch LJS in any project, but i have to admit his role in Pinocchio and IHYV overlapped quite a bit (not a surprise b/c it's from the same writer). not that i disliked it, but it would be nice to see him branch out more...he was great in Hot Young Bloods.

I would definitely check it out if siwan decides to do this drama. the contrast of his appearance and him being a criminal ringleader would be exciting for me to watch. especially if they have him utilising the stereotypes, that come with his outer appearance to gain power and defeat his enemies :D

Chill, I'm pretty sure he didn't take Beautiful Mind. Beautiful Mind doesn't even have a timeslot or a broadcast station, if Jongsuk rejected it then it's likely shelved for a while again. You won't see that drama for a while.

Jongsuk did want this movie but the filming date kept getting delayed so he was in a difficult situation, so I guess in the end he decided to pass. He didn't pass because it's a bad script though, so I'm still optimistic about it and Siwan will do well in the role.

Star empire, you are sucked. ZE:A comeback but no promotion and you only give us one new song but you fill siwan and hyungshik with new film and drama. I want them to sing not to act. Sigh.

Doesnt look like slow down any time soon.....you know why? Because star empire lost his building and rumor said the ceo gambled the money. That is why, eventhough there is no promotion, continue (zea new album and new song) reached number six on melon. ZE:A's bought the album to help star empire but still star empire needs more cash from the big three of ZE:A: siwan's new film, hyungsik new drama and kwang hee' new mc position. I hate shin jon hak, the ceo of star empire. He has ruined zea.
