Kim Hee-sun

  • Kim Hee-sun (Angry Mom) will guest appear in Chinese fantasy sageuk drama L.O.R.D: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties, which is being produced concurrently with the eponymous big-budget film by writer/director Guo Jingming. The motion-capture animated movie version has already cast such stars as Fan Bingbing and Kris Wu, and the drama version is also searching for top talent before it begins filming in a few weeks. In the TV adaptation, Kim will play a goddess with the highest authority and a character crucial for plot progression. Expect some snazzy special effects, as the computer graphics team for the Lord of the Rings films will have a hand in the production of the drama. [TV Report]
  • MBC’s drama special Splish Splash Love (or Pong-dang Pong-dang Love) has cast Yoon Doo-joon (Let’s Eat series) as its lead, Yi Do of Joseon, the future King Sejong the Great. It’s a fantasy coming-of-age sageuk romance about the workaholic (but surprisingly heodang) king and the third-year high school girl he falls for, and it will air in October. [Osen]

  • Yoon Doo-joon, Yoon So-hee

  • Yoon So-hee (Beloved Eun-dong, Secret Door) is joining Risking Life For Love, the Chinese-Korean film starring Ha Ji-won and Chen Bolin. While not much is known about her role (she’s been cast as a character named Yoo-mi), another aspect of the plot has been revealed: It’s a thriller/rom-com about a serial killer. The movie begins filming before the end of the year. [Joy News24]
  • PD Pyo Min-soo (The Producers, Ho-gu’s Love) is prepping for the production of a new Chinese-Korean drama titled Romantic Star. He’s been tapped to helm the story of a tumultuous romance between a man who loves astronomy and a woman obsessed with astrology, and the rom-com will be written by novelist Shin Ah-in. [Xports News]

  • Kim Jae-wook, Park Gyu-ri, Lee Mi-do

  • He of the magnificent cheekbones, Kim Jae-wook (Age of Feeling), will lead a new web drama called Sweet, and it will also star Park Gyu-ri (of Kara, Nail Shop Paris) and Lee Mi-do (Unkind Women). Kim’s the new manager of Sweet Coffee cafe and he’s got a negative and frosty personality. He’s a terrible manager who doesn’t even know how to brew a cup of coffee, but that’s because he’s hiding his true identity. An elite NIS agent who’s served for the past three years in Berlin, he’s now working undercover at the coffee shop while working on anti-espionage matters. Park is a part-time employee at the cafe, and her personality is the complete opposite of Kim’s. She’s exceedingly positive and genuinely interested in all of the cafe’s patrons. She seems like a busybody but she’s actually very affectionate and warm. Lee is a regular customer and writer; she’ll often order one cup of coffee and sit and write all day long. She’s also a pessimist with a sour disposition but she’ll be known for her occasional outbursts of laughter. Sweet airs in mid-October. [Joy News 24]

  • Kim Ki-bum, Miss Granny

  • Former SuJu member Kim Ki-bum (I Love Lee Tae-ri) is reappearing in front of Korean viewers with the web drama Cursed Romance. He’ll play a local news reporter who transitions to entertainment news, and this will be his first project following the expiration of his contract with SM Entertainment. The web drama has also cast Kim Hyung-jong (Faith) and Kwak Ji-min (Pride and Prejudice) and will last for ten episodes. Filming begins next month. [Star News]
  • The Chinese version of the popular film Miss Granny is being adapted for the small screen in China. Twenty Once Again was a hit and set records for a Chinese-Korean film when it was released early this year (it made over 55 million USD), and now it is being turned into a 40-episode drama. CJ Entertainment has confirmed the sale of the publication rights and while the principle story won’t change, many of the supporting roles will be tweaked. [TV Report]

A WILD KIBUM APPEARS!

Sorry, obligatory comment was obligatory.

But really, he and his disappearance will forever be one of the great mysteries of K-pop. He probably could've had a career like Siwon's had he stayed active in the group for just a bit longer before disappearing.

True. I'm not even a fan but I know his weird case of disappearance. I guess SM previously blocked his Korean activity since he got Korean activity as soon as he got out from SM. SM forever hinder celebrities career. Too many victims already. JYJ, No Min Woo, etc. They just can't let go

I dunno about blocking his Korean activity during his hiatus, but I've always thought that Kibum's hiatus was SM-approved. I remember years ago that Heechul said he came close to quitting the group and asked SM if he could start over again as an actor, which is what he really debuted first anyway. The group went ahead and recorded the Sorry Sorry album without him but he ended up changing his mind last minute and joined promotions anyway. I always thought that if Heechul was given permission to quit by SM, Kibum might've been given permission as well, especially since he was one of the favorites in the company.

What gets me curious is the lackluster acting career he's had since lying low Super Junior-wise. Siwon's acting career took off, and even Donghae scored a few drama gigs. Kibum's body of work is paltry in comparison.

I felt like the little acting projects that Kibum had was SM's way of keeping their end of the contract. It wasn't much, but technically SM hadn't broken the contract. Kibum lost a lot of his popularity and he wasn't in a position to leave SM so I think he just waited quietly for his contract to finish.

This is what I think too.

Both of them played it safe. Kibum finished his contract. SM did the minimum possible management required until that contract ended.

YAY Kim Hee-sun is back!

Just a slight correction though - L.O.R.D is the film adaption of 爵迹 (2010 novel by Guo Jingming).

The drama is actually based on another novel of GJM's - Ice Fantasy, which she will guest star in.

Go cable!

For sure. tvN has done some amazing dramas and I simply can't wait for Cheese In The Trap. Don't know the source material, but it seems really interesting! Also, it has the best looking cast I've ever seen: Park Hae Jin, Kim Go Eun, Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk!

Go cable, indeed!

(but tvN has made their share of flubs, I hope this story is better-executed than Gapdong)

now off to the SWWTN 18 recap to see if I can overcome tiredness long enough to be coherent.....

Btw is every barista/cafe manager/restaurant owner nowadays basically an undercover agent/hiding their real job nowadays?
That seems the premise for new Kim Jae Wook's web drama, then Neighborhood Hero. Earlier this year we have Healer where Chae Young Shin's father also a lawyer/barista.

Reading what awcoconuts wrote, at first I thought "Oh so like Coffee Prince" because you know, Kim Jae-wook, but then the word "undercover" just had to pop up. Okaaay.

I must check out Yoon Doojoon's next drama, even if it's just a special and it sounds wacky. Lol

Kim Jae Wook's next project sounds kinda interesting, but why a web drama?! Argh..... I never know where to find those...

I really, really wish Kim Jae-wook was doing The Village, oh well.
Why in the world do they want to make Miss Granny into a 40 episode drama? The movie was really good, I feel like they're going to ruin it. 40 episodes are way too many.

I wonder who is the male lead for Risking Life for Love. Chun Jung Myung or Chen Bolin. Hope its CJM.

Ahh Kim Jae Wook. I like web dramas...but I wonder how this one will go. Well, I'm sure he'll be the best part of it as usual. I wonder why he had to drop out of The Village, though. Apparently, another person from his company who was also cast in the drama also had to drop out at the same time...so I guess it's some bts disagreement...?

yay for Yoon Doojoon making it to public broadcast at last! I think he's one of the most solid idol actors around, and would love to see him as a non-Gu Dae-young character (because I really need to get over Gu Dae-young, damn). I hope they get someone nice to play the high school girl, now.

and seeing that picture of him side by side with the one of Yoon So-hee is giving me Let's Eat feels.

also, Kim Jae-wook in a web drama? I rather wish he'd taken the Village but if this has a better role for him, bring it on I guess.

Out of the blue but I wish there was another sitcom like Nonstop. Can't get those series out of my mind! No sitcom ever made me laugh that much. Kim Kibum was fun in Rainbow Romance and Sharp.

This must be why Kim Jae Wook turned down Village and I definitely can't blame him because it's about time for him to lead a drama! I will definitely be checking this out.

I never thought I'd see these two young stars (YAI and Moon) play parents to someone like So Ji Sub lol.
