Gong Hyo-jin
- She’s been christened Loyal Woman of Chungmuro, and Gong Hyo-jin (The Producers) is upholding her reputation as she teams up again with director Lee Geun-woo in his upcoming film, Project Spirit (spirit as in vigor and rah-rah, not ghost). She was in his 2012 movie 577 Project, and she accepted the offer to guest appear without a moment’s hesitation and without a guarantee. Project Spirit is a faux documentary about an idol group that will expose the inner workings of the entertainment world (ha, maybe Gong will cameo as Tak Ye-jin), and filming is currently underway. [TV Report]
- Investigative thriller Asura has lined up quite the cast: Jung Woo-sung (Madam Bbaeng-deok), Hwang Jung-min (Veteran), and Joo Ji-hoon (Mask) have all joined the movie. It must be a happy reunion for Jung, who’s starred in three of director Kim Sung-soo’s previous films–Musa, City of the Rising Sun, and Beat. This time he’ll play a detective who begins to get mired in corrupt activities as he tries everything to save his terminally-ill, cancer-stricken wife. After receiving political pressure himself, he’ll set out to arrest a notoriously corrupt town mayor, played by Hwang. Joo is a junior investigator who thinks of Jung as an older brother, and Jung will send him to work as a detective under the villainous Hwang. Filming for Asura begins before the end of the month. [Star News]
- Ooh, seems like everyone’s favorite ghostess Kim Seul-gi will be back sooner than we thought. She’s currently in negotiations to take the lead in the drama special Splish Splash Love as the love interest of Yoon Doo-joon. In the Joseon-era comic fantasy special, Yoon’s been cast as King Yi Do while Kim will play a third-year high school student and the object of the king’s affections. While sad it’s only two episodes, I’ll take any Kim Seul-gi I can get. Splish Splash Love airs in October on MBC. [Osen]
- Sounds like this movie will give Han Ye-ri (Kundo: Age of the Rampant) an actor’s workout, but no doubt she’ll rise to the challenge. She’s been cast as the lead in The Worst Woman, and she’ll play a chameleon who changes her personality with every guy she’s with. The film will cover what happens when she meets three men in one day, and Iwase Ryo will play a hot Japanese novelist she’s dating, Lee Hee-joon (they worked together in Sea Fog) will play a divorced cafe owner and Kwon Yul (Let’s Eat 2) will complete the trio of men. The Worst Woman is targeting a 2016 premiere. [Joongang]
- Is a sequel to director Choi Dong-hoon’s The Thieves in the works? While at a publicity event for Assassin (which he also directed) in China on September 9, Choi confirmed, “We’re not ready to film right this minute, but we are planning a [Thieves 2].” Just thinking about a Jeon Ji-hyun–Kim Soo-hyun reunion makes me happy! [TV Report]
- Given the success of Veteran, which recently hit over 12 million admissions, it comes as no surprise that a sequel has already been confirmed. While the script hasn’t been written yet, director Ryu Seung-wan believes Hwang Jung-min‘s return is essential to the story. Producer Kang Hye-jung indicated that the movie will come out in the next two to three years. [Sports Worldi, Kyunghyang]
- Those mourning the end of Three Meals a Day, take hope. While the project was only meant to last a year from the onset, the show could come back–just in a new location. A tvN source confirmed the end of the show’s run in Jeongseon, but didn’t close the door on the variety program completely, saying, “If we do bring back the farming village version of the show, it won’t be in Oksoonbong but in a different region.” The final episode of Three Meals a Day in Jeongseon aired this past Friday. [Joongang]

Yeyzers! All good news this week :D
Love all the actors/actresses mentioned. Though if I'm being a pessimist, it's sad that Doojoon and Seulgi's drama special is only 2 eps long :'(
BTW, have you ladies seen that short Jisung vampire/indie movie for BIFF2015? There's a 3 minute trailer that's kinda weird and funny and disturbing and *cough*hot.

Thank you so much for putting this on my radar Mary! I swear he looked exactly like Shin Segi decided to get zanier with the glasses. And then he opened his mouth and Perry Park came out. The man is so freaking sexy it should be illegal.
And I totally get what you mean by the trailer being hot. I kept looking over my shoulder during the 'necking' in case my mom decided to come in xD

Even though the movie left us with some plot holes, I'm still excited for a Thieves 2!
I don't think it will be happening anytime soon though with Jeon Ji Hyun's pregnancy and all. Hopefully, if they are going to make a sequel, they would use all the time they have to carefully write the story and secure the previous cast for the shooting schedule

Am I the only one who doesn't like The Thieves? It reminds me so mich of Hongkong action movie, something I don't mind IF it's a Hongkong film, but this film is trying so hard and Kim Hye Soo-Kim yoon Seok & Jun Ji Hyun- Kim Soo Hyun love stories are no better than K-dramas.
Or is it just my sentiment with Choi Dong Hoon? Not a fan of him, but Jeon Woo Chi is entertaining (although the CG at the beginning is laughable).

I haven't seen it, but the impression I got (from reviews etc) was that despite the fact that it did will at the box office, it was a mediocre film, not a must-watch. Like, reasonably entertaining but not without issues and nothing new at all.

My friends and I saw it. It had a good start but at the end of the film, we were all wondering what the hype was all about.

well, they can't do the Thieves sequel (if it is with the same actors) for at least another year, since Jun Ji-hyun is pregnant.
I agree on the Hong Kong action movie feel. JJH and Kim Hye-soo were very charismatic but it did feel a bit by-the-numbers.

I tried watching The Thieves on numerous occasions but could never make it past the first 30 minutes. I never understood what the hype was all about, I guess it's one of those movies whete the hype exceeds the actual interest of the movie. Either that or I have wildly different tastes...

My highly opinionated thoughts on this movie: Highly disappointed. Boring. Waste of time. Waste of talent. The fu*k did I just watch. This is it? Really? I wasted my time for this sh*t? Yawn. Yawn. Yawn.

Can't wait for Tak Ye Jin PD cameo! Haha
(I read somewhere that Music Bank PD and 1N2D PD love story actually happens in real life in KBS! That must be awesome)
Excited for Jung Woo Sung-Hwang Jung Min-Joo Ji Hoon's movie. I know I won't be the only one watching for the cast right? :)

Regarding Mubank and 1n2d PD, they actually met and dated when they were both 1N2D PDs. Now the wife is in Mubank while the husband is still in 1N2D.

What's the word about 'Busan Bound', the zombies on a train flick? It was supposedly filming in April, and it has disappeared from the Internet. Is the filmmaker very secretive?

yay for more Gong Hyo-jin!
And I am SO THRILLED that Kim Seul-gi finally gets a chance to flex her chops in a lead role, even if it's only for two episodes. I love Yoon Doo-joon and think they'll be a perfect match. (see, networks? this is the kind of young actress you should be offering lead roles to, it's high time for her)
I just hope Doojoon can handle the technical aspects of sageuk acting, though doing a two-episode special is a smart way to test the waters (as opposed to going into a full-length series with no previous experience).

"Splish Splash Love" doesn't sound sageuk-ish. I hope it's something similar or close to the 2 episodes "Legend of Hyang Dan." Short, sweet and fun.

yeah, the high school girl aspect of it means we're getting a Queen In-hyun's Man-style story and not a classic or full sageuk.....

Just pray that it gets subbed, these short dramas can sometimes slip through the cracks and I have no idea if MBC subs its drama specials and puts them up on its youtube channel the way KBS does.
